1997 - ALICE MARIE CREPS, Sentinel Tribune 03-28-1997, Friday, Alice Marie Creps, 87, of Napoleon, a native of Tontogany, died Thursday morning at the Northcrest Nursing Home.
She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Napoleon, and the Henry County Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Creps was born Jan. 20, 1910 to Lewis and Louise (Seeland) Vollmar and married John J. Creps Aug. 14, 1947. He died Sep. 17, 1972.
Also preceding her in death were two stepchildren; three brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include five sons, Garold Ford, Circleville; Albert Ford, Napoleon; Andrew and Larry Creps, both of Delta; and Rick Creps, Waldo; daughter, Gertrude Schuette, Napoleon; five stepsons, Don Creps, Neapolis; Robert Creps, Westerville; Roland Creps, Tontogany; Merlin Creps, Swanton; and Vernon Creps, Grelton; Stepdaughter, Doris Nash, Liberty Center;' Three brothers, Seymor and Russel Vollmar, both of Sylvania, and Lyle Vollmar, Tontogany; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Snyder-Wesch Funeral Home, Napoleon.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
1989 - RAYMOND R. CREPS, Daily Sentinel Tribune 3-09-1989, Thursday, Perrysburg - Raymond R. Creps., 93, formerly West South Boundary, died Wednesday in Heartland of Perrysburg nursing home, where he had live two years.
He had been a Perrysburg farmer all his life, retiring in 1963.
Creps was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg.
He was born Aug. 23, 1895, in Coshocton to Mr. and Mrs. John Creps (Clara Adkins). On Sept. 21, 1922, in Perrysburg, he married Lottie Schramm, who died in 1986.
Surviving are one son, Donald, Perrysburg; two daughters, Mrs. Marion Keppler, Perrysburg, and Mrs. Charlotte Freedheim, California; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg. Burial will be in Ft. Meigs Cemetery. Rev. Louis Accola will officiate.
Visitation will be tonight after 7 and all day Friday.
Memorials may be made to the church.
1956 - MRS. JOHN (CLARA ADKINS) CREPS, Daily Sentinel Tribune, Oct. 5, 1956, Mrs. John Creps (Clara Adkins), 92, died Thursday evening in her home on Avenue Rd., Near Perrysburg. She had lived in the same home most of her married life.
Her husband died in 1896. Born in East Toledo, she was a member of the Macabees.
Surviving are a son, Raymond, who lived with her; four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Coy, of Walbridge: Mrs. Lottie Holland, of Prattsville, Mich...; and Mrs. William Jacobs and Mrs. Addie Lynn, both of Toledo; a brother, Edward Adkins of Curtice; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Witzler Funeral Home, in Perrysburg. The Rev. E. J. Melchert of the Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Meigs Cemetery.
1905 - MRS. MARTHA CREPS, Daily Sentinel Tribune, Jan. 5, 1905, Tontogany, Jan. 5 [INS] -Mrs. Martha Creps, 50, died at the Women's and Children's Hospital last night at seven o'clock. She was taken there from her home, a half a mile south and east of Otsego Park on Christmas eve with an obstruction.
Funeral services will be held at the Croll Funeral Home in Tontogany on Monday at 2:00 P.M. with burial in Otsego Cemetery.
Martha Wires was born at Wires Rapids on the River Road and was married to John Creps on May 23, 1914. Eight children were born to the union. She was member of the Haskins Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, the following children: Donald of Toledo, Mrs. Bernice Dugby of Tontogany, Herbert in the Air Corps in Kansas, Robert in the army in France, Doris, Rolland, Merlin, and Vernon at home, four grandchildren, four brothers, Herbert Wires of Toledo, Jacob Wires of Tontogany,George of Denver, Col. John of Haskins, two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Armitage of Haskins, and Mrs. Cora Baldwin, of Portage, a half sister, Mrs. May Huebner of Tontogany and her mother -in-law, Mrs. Andrew Creps, who lives near Otsego.
1900 - JOHN S. CREPS, Wood County Sentinel Feb. 15, 1900 page 3, column 5, One of Wood County's Oldest Residents, Gone
John S. Creps (or A.??), one of the oldest residents of Wood County, died at his home near Waterville on Feb. 7.
The funeral was held on Feb. 9 at the M.E. Church at Waterville.
He leaves a wife and a large number of relatives to mourn his death.
John A. Creps has been identified with the affairs of Wood county for many years. He was born at Perrysburg in 1838. John Creps attained his literary education in Middleton township and later secured a commercial training in business college. He started into business in a sash and blind factory in partnership with another man. He sold out this and embarked in the grocery business in Perrysburg. He sold this business and was for a time engaged in the wholesale and retail butcher business at Maumee. In 1871 he returned to the homestead farm which he conducted for his mother. In later years he conducted it in his own interests.
Mr. Creps was a man of excellent business ability and made a success of the various lines of business in which he was engaged during his life. He was a staunch Republican always and took an active interest in public affairs. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Waterville.
In 1888 he was married to Miss Susanna Carrol of Lucas county.

SOPHIA CREPS, Perrysburg Journal page 3, column 1 March 16, 1850, In this town (Perrysburg) on the 12th inst., after a painful illness of five days, of the erysipelas, Mrs. SOPHIA CREPS, wife of Mr. John W. Creps, and daughter of A. Coffinbury, Esq., aged 27 years, 11 months and 27 days.
The deceased has left a husband, two small children and numerous family connections and friends to mourn the loss of departed worth.
From childhood she had been a professor of religion, and during the last ten years an exemplary member of the M.E. Church.
1892 - JOSEPH A. CREPS, Wood County Journal September 15, 1892 page 3, column 2, Joseph A. Creps, aged about 65, an old citizen of Washington Township, died in the home of his son-in-law, Charles Simmons, of Weston Township, Saturday night. He was buried Sunday at 2 p.m., the Masonic lodge of Grand Rapids having charge of the services. He was a member of Co H., 6th O.V.I., and had long been partially blind, and in feeble health.

Tontogany - The book of life was closed for Mary Creps this morning at the home of her son, John, near Neapolis in Fulton county only three months shy of the age of 96 years. She was quite ill for the past week with the infirmities of age.
Funeral services will be held at the Croll Funeral Home at Tontogany at two thirty o'clock Tuesday afternoon and burial will be made in the Otsego, Cemetery.
Mary Elliott was born at Whitehouse on March 26, 1852 and came to this county early in life. She was married to Andrew Creps in Bowling Green and to this union five sons were born. Her husband preceded her about 15 years ago.
They lived on a farm near Tontogany most of their life, tilling the soil and clearing the land and during their long residence there gained a warm and lasting friendship of scores of neighbors in that vicinity. Three years ago she moved to Neapolis to spend her remaining days with her son, John.
Surviving are sons John, Joseph of McBain, Mich.., William of Stony Ridge and Charles of Tontogany, two sisters Esther Elliott of Waterville and Martha of Riga, Mich.; twenty-one grandchildren and (?) 14 great grandchildren.

A lifelong resident and a laborer in the area. Mr. Creps was born on Aug. 2, 1888 to Mr. and Mr. Andrew Creps (Mary Elliott).
Surviving are one brother, William, Stony Ridge, and 25 nieces and nephews. Three brothers preceded him in death.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Crol-Peinert Funeral Home, Tontogany, with Rev. Roger Montague officiating. Friends may call after noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Otsego Cemetery.
1989 - WILLIAM HENRY CREPS, Daily Sentinel Tribune 1-18-1989, Wednesday, Stony Ridge- William Henry Creps, 101, East Broadway Street, died this morning in Wood County Nursing Home, where he had lived since October 1980.
Creps was a retired janitor at the Wood County Board of Elections, retired watchman at the Great Eastern Shopping Center, and former worker at the Ohio Lime Co., Woodville.
He was born Feb, 3, 1887, in Washington Township to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Creps (Mary Elliott). He married Susan Leemaster, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Carson, Montana, and Harold Dean, Bowling Green; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Dauster, Franklin Furnace, and Mrs Arlene Hutchinson, Pemberville; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildtren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Peinert Funeral Home, Tontogany. Burial will be in Tontogany Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m.

She was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg.
She was born June 15, 1897, in Perrysburg to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schramm (Carolyn Selling).
She married Raymond R. Creps on Sept. 21, 1922. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Donald R., Perrysburg; two daughters, Mrs. Marian Keppler, Perrysburg, and Mrs. Charlotte Freedhelm, Sausalito, Calif; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church.

1996 - RITA JOAN CREPS, 9/11/1996 Sentinel Tribune, Wednesday, Rita Joan Creps, 46 Liberty Center, died Tuesday in Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon.
She owned Gentle Reminders Adult Day Care Centers, Napoleon, from 1990-1995. Previously she had worked as a practical nurse in area nursing homes and as a social worker for Wood County Human Services.
She graduated from Bowling Green School of Practical Nursing and from Bowling Green State University in 1988.
Mrs. Creps was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Monclova; Northwest Ohio Area Council on Aging; and Liberty Center Historical Society.
She was born Aug. 26, 1950, in Liberty Center to Arthur and Alice (Vermeulen) VanDenBerghe. She married Thomas J. Creps on May 22, 1969. He survives as does her mother, of Liberty Center.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karin, Liberty Center; a son, Anthony, Liberty Center; two sisters, Georgette Kniss, Lambertville, Mich.. and Godelieve Eggers, Fullerton, Calif.; and four brothers, Henry, Metamora; Peter, Grand Rapids; and Lawrence and George, both Liberty Center.
She was preceded in death by her father; an infant sister, Godelieve; and two brothers, Laurent and Albert.
The funeral Friday at 1 p.m. at the church with burial in Mr. Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Pastor Russ Merrin will officiate.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Wright Funeral Home Liberty Center.

1991 - JUNE L. CREPS, Daily Sentinel Tribune 6-24-1991, June L. Creps, 73, Superior, Mont., formerly of Wood County, died Friday.
She had been a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Luckey; Tontogany Presbyterian Church; Ultra Culture Club, Weston; and Wood County Farm Bureau Council, Grand Rapids.
She was born June 22, 1917 in Pemberville to Charles "Pat" and Hannah (Carr) Spahn. She married Carson J. Creps who survives in Superior, on Sept. 6, 1936.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon Kolinski, Toledo; and Gloris (Gloria?) Castles, Superior; two sons, Ken and Garth, both of Bowling Green; a sister, Ardith Phillips, Perrysburg; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Grover, Lloyd "Buck", and Darrell.
The funeral will be held in Superior Baptist Church, Montana, at a date to be announced. A memorial service will take place in Faith United Methodist Church, Luckey, July 2 at 2 p.m. Rev. Thomas Cook will officiate.

1901 - JEROME L. CREPS, Nov. 29, 1901, Fatally Injured, Jerome Creps Run Over and Killed By Engine,
On Friday night last (Nov. 22) Jerome L. Creps died at about 8 o'clock in the Toledo Hospital as a result of injuries received in an accident in the outer yard of the Pennsylvania Railroad in southeast Toledo. Mr. Creps had taken some railroad mail to the east bound passenger train which leaves the city at 5 o'clock and due these yards 20 minutes later, and was returning when a switch engine that was going west on the next track struck him.
His mouth was cut and his head was very badly bruised, his left leg badly crushed and fractured above the knee, and a very bad bruise afflicted on his left shoulder.
The unfortunate man was taken to Toledo Hospital where every effort was made to save him but to no avail, the injuries being of such a nature as to cause death about two hours later.
Deceased leaves a wife and 5 children and is about 40 years of age. He had been in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad for the past 10 years. He was the son of J.W. Creps of Perrysburg Township.
1975 - MRS. WILLIAM (SUSAN LEEMASTER) CREPS, Daily Sentinel Tribune 9-22-1975, Mrs. William Creps (Susan Leemaster), 79, of 24993 E. Broadway, Perrsburg, died in Wood County Hospital Thursday afternnon after a long illness. She was a cook for many years at the Lemoyne Elementary School before retiring in 1962.
She was a member of the Stony Ridge United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens, both of Stony Ridge.
Born Oct. 9, 1895 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs. George Leemaster (Mary Yarger). She married Mr. Creps on Sept. 24, 1913 in Lake City, Mich.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Carson, Weston, and Harold, Bowling Green: two daughters, Mrs Glenn (Mary) Dauster, Bowling Green, and Mrs. Ned (Arlene) Hutchinson, Pemberville; three brothers, Daniel, Bradner; Sherman, Pemberville; and Leo, Albany, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Lester (Arda) Wagoner, Los Angeles; Mrs. Alta Broka, Perrysburg, and Mrs. Merlin (Elsie) Sargent, Tucson.
Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 and Saturday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at theHolcomb Funeral Home, Luckey, where the funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Thomas Scoby will officiate and burial will be in Tontogany Cemetery.
1893 - ELLA MAY CREPS, Obituary given in Marysville Democrat-Appeal newspaper dated 10 Nov 1893, page 2. Death of Miss Ella Creps. Miss Ella Creps, one of Yuba county's brightest and most intellectual young ladies, died at the State Normal School at Chico yesterday morning of typhoid pneumonia. She had been ill about a week, and so serious was her illness on Wednesday that Dr. C. E. Stone, the family physician, was telegraphed for. When he arrived that evening he found her slowly sinking. He was unable to hold out any hope to her mother, who had been with her for several days. The deceased was the second oldest daughter of W. A. (William A.) Creps, an old and respected resident of this county who resides near Wheatland. She had attended the Stockton Business College, and afterwards secured a grammar grade certificate in Butte county. She then went to the State Normal School at Chico where she has been for several months.

One of the largest corteges that has followed a deceased person to the last resting place for many years in this county, followed Miss Creps. The funeral services took place at the residence of her bereaved parents, W.A. Creps and wife of East Bear River township. A number of handsome floral offerings were placed on the casket. The internment was made in Elizabeth cemetery. The following young gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Pliny Hutchinson, William Jeffery, Fred Hutchinson, George Galligan, Charles Crosby and William Galligan. Great sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents.
1935 - MATILDA CREPS, From the Marysville Appeal-Democrat Oct 30, 1935. Mrs. Matilda Creps, Wheatland Resident, Claimed by Illness Mrs. Matilda Creps, 56 (maybe 66) widely known Wheatland resident and Eastern Star member there, died early Wednesday in a local hospital following an illness of about a month. Mrs. Creps was a native of Sacramento, and had resided in Wheatland for the past 19 years. Surviving are her husband, Berton Creps and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Gorman of Los Angeles and Mrs. Roy Nichols of El Segundo, a nephew, Roy Nichols Jr., of El Segundo, also survives. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lipp and Sullivan.
1906 - WILLIAM ALBERT CREPS, 4 March 1906, Front Page, Death of William Albert Creps, Pioneer of This State passed away Yesterday at His Home at Erle, William Albert Creps, a pioneer resident of this county, quietly passed away yesterday morning about 3 o'clock at his home at Erle. The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania and was aged 80 years, 3 months and 13 days. He arrived in this state in 1852 and took up his residence on a farm. He leaves besides an aged wife, six children who are as follows: Henry R., Minnie, Berton, Rosco, Chester and Letha Creps. The deceased was an honorable man in all his dealings, was a progressive citizen, being always ready to give a helping hand to aid any move for advancement of the section in which he lived, and his passing away will be regretted by a large circle of friends. He was a member of Yuba Lodge No. 38, F. and A.M. of this city. The funeral services will be held next Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from his late residence. The services will be under the auspices of Yuba Lodge No. 39, F. and A.M., and the interment will be in the Loftin cemetery.

Creps, Many Prominent Citizens of Yuba County Attend the Services, The funeral of the late William Albert Creps took place yesterday morning at 11:30 o'clock from the home residence at Erle and was largely attended by those who had come to pay their last respects to the bereaved. Nearly every prominent resident from that country and a number from this city attended. The funeral was conducted under the auspices of Yuba Lodge No. 39, F. and A.M. of this city. The Masonic service was read by Worshipful Master Dr. David Powell and Rev. Fred Sheldon, both at home and at the grave. The Christian Church choir of Wheatland sang several very beautiful and appropriate selections. There were numerous handsome floral offerings and the casket was covered with a bank of flowers. The pallbearers were Harold Cornforth, J.F. Baun, P.L. Hutchinson, A. A. Robinson, Martin Hicks and E.T. Manwell. The cortege was followed to Lofton cemetery, where the body was laid at rest by a large number of friends and relatives.
1945 -HENRY REED CREPS, Obituary from the Marysville Appeal-Democrat dated 19 Oct 1945 reads: Death Calls Aged Yuba Resident, Henry Reed Creps of Wheatland, 79, native of Yuba county and son of pioneers, died at 7:30 a.m. today at his home in Wheatland. He was a retired rancher and member of a prominent family. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Creps, were among the early settlers of Yuba county. His father came around Cape Horn in 1850 and mined on the north fork of the American River. Later he mined at Grass Valley. His mother (Matilda Lofton) came across the plains with an ox team and prairie schooner in a train of 80 wagons. In 1856 William Creps took a squatter's title to land, later acquiring approximately 7,000 acres, some of the land still held by members of his family. Surviving are his sisters, Mrs. William Erwin of Sacramento and Mrs. Lorel Middleton of Wheatland; brothers, Berton L. Creps of Wheatland, Roscoe Creps of Marysville and six grandchildren. He reared in his home Mrs. Norman Androus and William Peardon Jr. Funeral services will be held a the Lipp and Sullivan mortuary at 2 p.m. Monday with internment in Sierra View Memorial Park.
Funeral Notice from the Marysville Appeal-Democrat dated 23 Oct 1945 reads: Funeral Services, Funeral services for the late Henry Reed Creps, long time Wheatland district ranch operator, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lipp and Sullivan chapel with Rev. Carl Tamblyn officiating. Frank Freeman sang sacred selections accompanied by Vashti Prentiss at the organ. Pallbearers were C.J. Dalbey, Thomas Ferguson, William Hollinghead, C.M. Burchell, Earl Goforth, A.K. Dam, William Peardon and Joe Hamilton. The Sutter lodge number 100, I.O.O.F. of Wheatland conducted the graveside services with Earl Goforth, as chaplain and C.J. Dalbey as grand noble. Interment was in the Sierra View park.

Creps, a pioneer farmer from Pennsylvania, who settled in East Bear River township about 12 years ago, died of pneumonia, May 22d, after a brief illness of three or four days, age 51 years. The deceased was a good citizen, respected by all, and his sudden death is lamented by all. The funeral of the deceased takes place this morning from his late ranch.
1995 - EVELYN CREPS, 55, of Grinnell died of a heart attack Monday at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Mrs. Creps was born in Newton and lived near Brooklyn before moving to Grinnell in 1966. She was a homemaker and member of Brooklyn American Legion and USS Shangri-La auxiliaries.
