Albert and Donald Adkins

Joint services will be held Monday at 2pm at the Martin Funeral Home for Albert and Donald Adkins. The Rev. Harry J. Lane of the Prayer Temple Tabernacle will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
The elder Mr. Adkins (Albert) was born Dec 15 1909 at Hager WVa, a son of Mrs. Catherine Plumley Adkins of Hamlin WVa and the late Squire Adkins.
He had lived in this vicinity 31 years, and was a welder of the Midland Division of the Crucible Steel Co. where he had been employed 24 years. He worked on Thursday. he was a member of United Steelworkers Union 1212.
In addition to his mother and other son (Jerry L. Adkins), survivors include his widow, Mrs. Martha E. Stewart Adkins, at home; a daughter Mrs. John (Linda) McCullough of Tonawanda, NY; two brothers Bernard and Alpha Adkins both of East Liverpool; five sisters, Mrs. Edward (Elizabeth) Papuzek and Mrs. Froud (Virginia) Adkins both of East Liverpool, Mrs. William (Daisy) Snodgrass, Mrs. Ezra (Maude) Adkins and Mrs. Grady (Retheal) Adkins all of Hamlin, and five grandchildren.
Mr Donald Adkins was born Oct 10, 1939 at East Liverpool. He attended East Liverpool High School and served in the navy from 1957 to1960.
He was employed as a conveyorman at Crucible where he had been employed three years. He worked last on Thursday. He was a member of local 1212.
Besides his mother, brother and sister he is survived by his widow, Mrs Patricia Kukich Adkins, and a daughter Michele Renee Adkins, at home.

Alva Adkins

Alva Adkins, 64, of Beaver Ave, Midland, died Thursday in City Hospital following a six month illness.
Mr Adkins an employee of the Crucible Steel Co in Midland for 15 years, was born in Hager WVa and came to Midland about 16 years ago. he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and United Steelworkers Local 1212 of Midland.
He leaves his widow, Mrs Florence Adkins; four brothers Roy Adkins, Roma Adkins and Raymond Adkins all of East Liverpool, and Samuel Adkins of Midland, and four sisters; Mrs Stella B.Smith, Mrs. Erma Adkins, Mrs. Mabel Collins and Mrs Sheba Collins all of East Liverpool.
Rites will be held, Monday at 2pm in the Martin Funeral Home by Elder Kenneth Coombs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday and Sunday afternoon and night at the funeral home.

Alva F. Adkins

Calcutta- Alva F. Adkins, 73 of Calcutta Smith-ferry Rd. died at 1:13 pm Friday Jan 31, 1997 in the emergency room at East Liverpool City Hospital after becoming ill at home.
He was born Dec 15, 1923, in Hamlin WVa, a son of the late James W. and Martha Jane Adkins.
An area resident since 1947, he was retired from the agricultural department at the former Crucible Steel Co. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints.
He was a member of the U.S. Air force during World War II where he served in the European Theater. he also was a member of the American Legion Post 374.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen June Baker, whom he married Sep 7 1948, a daughter Kathy Sue Adkins of Butner, NC; a brother Williard Adkins of East Liverpool, a sister, Mrs. Max Myrtle of Big Laurel, WVa; and a granddaughter, Lisa Kane, at home, whom he helped raise.
He was preceded in death by a son Alva Adkins II; five brothers, Clifford Adkins, Sherley Adkins, Leonard Adkins, Okel Adkins, and Herbert Adkins; and three sisters, Donna Carnes, Ruby Adkins and Elva Dingess.
The Rev. Charles Adkins, nephew of the deceased, will conduct services at 11 am at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday.

Andrew B. Adkins

Andrew B. Adkins, 74, died early today in his home in La Croft, after a weeks illness.
Mr Adkins who was born in Richmond Va leaves five daughters, Mrs Clara Barrett and Mrs Ida Estell of La Croft, Mrs Martha Nicholson of Wellsville, Mrs Rebecca Wilson of Lisbon and Mrs Ada Reilly of East Liverpool; and three sons, Lyman, at home, John of Stockport and Cornelius of La Croft.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Ravenswood WVa.
Funeral services will be held in the home Wednesday at 2:30 pm in charge of Rev Mary Thompson, pastor of the La Croft United Brethren Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Arba Adkins

Arba Adkins, 63, of Calcutta-Smithferry Rd was pronounced dead on arrival at City Hospital Friday at 5pm following a two-month illness.
He was born Aug 30, 1911 in Lincoln County WVa a son of Ezra Adkins and Flora Stowers Adkins.
He had been a control operator at the Midland Crucible Divisions of Colt Industries for 40 years and was affiliated with the Adkins Furniture Store until retiring in 1973. Mr Adkins was a staff sergeant during World War II serving with the artillery in the South Pacific.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), local 1212 of the United Steelworkers, American Legion post 374. His wife Edith O'Brien Adkins died Aug 5, 1972.
Survivors include two brothers, Toney Adkins and Ruel Adkins, both of East Liverpool, and a stepson, Raymond O'Brien of East Liverpool.
Services will be held at the Martin Funeral Home Monday at 11 am with the elders of the church in charge. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Autis Adkins

Autis Adkins, 36, craneman for the Crucible Steel Co, died suddenly Monday at 9 am at his home on the Y & O Rd in St. Clair Township.
Adkins was born Dec 10, 1916 in Hamlin WVa, and spent most of his lifetime in the East Liverpool district. he had been employed at the Midland works for 12 years.
He was an elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, president of the Mutual Improvement Association, and a member of CIO-USA Local Union 1212.
He leaves his widow, Mrs Wilma Wilson Adkins; a son Eugene Adkins, and four daughters, Caroline Jane Adkins, Donna Leah Adkins, Beverly Blaine Adkins, and Barbara Ann Adkins, all at home; four brothers, Arba Adkins, Toney Adkins, Jay Adkins and Ruel Adkins, all of East Liverpool.
Rites will be held Thursday at 2 pm at the Martin Funeral Home by an elder of his church. Burial will be in Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery.

Barbara Adkins

Mrs. Barbara J. Adkins, 39, of Wilbert Ave was pronounced dead on arrival Monday at 11:50 am at City Hospital from natural causes.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs Adkins was born here Jan 26, 1943 in Akron, a daughter of Bernice Powers Porter of East Liverpool and the late Clyde Porter.
She was a computer operator at National Church Supply in Chester (WV).
She was graduated in 1961 as salutatorian from Wells High School in Newell, and attended Kent State University.
Besides her mother, survivors include two daughters, Susan and Cindy L. Adkins, and a son Michael R. Adkins, all at home; a sister Mrs. Phyllis Grant of East Liverpool, and three brothers, Robert M. Porter of East Liverpool, Richard L. Porter of Elyria and Raymond E. Porter of Youngstown.
Services are to be held Thursday at 1:30 pm at the Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael Gibson of the First United Methodist Church.
Burial is to be in Riverview Cemetery.

Betty L. Adkins

Mrs. Betty L. Adkins, 43, of Valley Avenue, died at 11:23 am Monday Dec 21, 1992 in the emergency room at City Hospital where she was taken after being stricken at home.
She was born Oct 29, 1949 in East Rainelle, WVa, a daughter of Mrs. Helen L. Higgins Goldsmith of East Liverpool and the late Hayward Goldsmith.
Mrs Adkins graduated from Wellsville High School in 1968. She was Protestant by faith.
Besides her mother, survivors include her husband, Edgar Adkins, whom she married Aug 30, 1968; a son Wayne Adkins, at home; and two daughters, Mrs Tom (Robyn) Wright of East Liverpool and Pamela Adkins, at home.
The Rev.Robert Hull of the House of Prayer is to conduct services at 1pm Thursday at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Burial is to be in Springhill Cemetery.

Blenard R. Adkins, 70 of East Ninth St died at 8:57pm Wednesday Aug 31, 1994 at the Robert E. Boyce Pavilion in City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Hager, WVa Aug 28, 1924, a son of the late Warren and Lola Honaker Adkins.
he moved to East Liverpool in 1942 and was a scarfer 36 years at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retiring in 1981. he was Protestant by faith.
He is survived by his wife, Frances H. Jackson Adkins, whom he married June 8, 1945; two daughters, Mrs Harold (Barbara) Stull of East Liverpool and Mrs. Jace (Susan F) Sayre, at home; a son David L. Adkins Sr. of East Liverpool; six sisters, Romzy Byrd of Sweetland WVa, Mrs. Ralph (Lou) Adkins of Big Laurel, WVa. Mrs. Paris (unreadable) of Griffithsville, WVa, Mrs. James (Thelma) Adkins, of East Liverpool, Mrs Dennis (Sue) Albert of Alliance and Mrs. Steve (unreadable) Cummings of St. Albans, WVa; three brothers, the Rev. Basil Adkins, Benny Adkins and Wendell Adkins of East Liverpool; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie Adkins and a sister, Ruth Adkins.
The Rev Ralph Compa of the Grace Bible Ministeries Church will conduct services at 1pm Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Catherine Adkins

Catherine Jewel Adkins, 101, died at 4:35am Monday at the East Liverpool Convalescent Center No.1.
She was born Aug 17, 1882 in Hager, WVa, the daughter of Elisha and Mary Jane Stricklen Plumley, and has resided in the area 19 years.
She was a member of the Big Laurel Methodist Church, where she had taught a Sunday School class. Her husband, Squire Adkins, preceded her in death in 1939.
She is survived by two sons, Alpha and Bernard, both of East Liverpool, five daughters, Mrs. Maudie Adkins of Sias, WVa, Mrs Grady (Reathel) Adkins of West Hamli WVa, and Mrs daisy Snodgrass, Mrs Elizabeth Papuzek and Mrs Froud (Virginia) Adkins of East Liverpool, 32 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren and 51 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, three sons preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday at the Koontz Funeral Home in Hamlin, WVa. Burial will be at the Plumley Cemetery at Big Laurel WVa.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Martin Funeral Home.

Charlotte Adkins

Services are planned this afternoon for Mrs. Charlotte Adkins, 73, of Moore St. East Liverpool, who died at 1:30 am Sunday Nov 20 1988 at the Robert E. Boyce Skilled Nursing Pavillion in City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Madison Township Feb 18, 1915, a daughter of the late Bert Betteridge and Anna Lindsey Betteridge.
Mrs. Adkins was a dispatcher for the Yellow Cab Co and Lynn Ambulance Service before retiring in 1971.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Adkins of Homassa, Fla, a daughter Mrs Daniel (Barbara) Dennis of Pfafftown, NC; a brother, William K. Betteridge of East Liverpool, nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The Rev Paul Nesmith of the Firsy Church of the Nazarene is to conduct services at 2pm at the Martin Funeral Home.
Burial is to be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Clyde B. Adkins

Klondyke Man dies in Crash near Calcutta
A 28 year old Klondyke steel worker was killed and a woman passanger 22, was injured when their car smashed into a stone abutment on the Smithferry-Calcutta Rd Sunday morning at 5:50 the State Highway Patrol at Salem reported.
Clyde B. Adkins, 1903 Harvey Ave was pronounced dead on arrival at City Hospital. death was caused by a skull fracture.
Miss Dora Griffith, 242 W 7th St is in "fair" condition today at the hospital with concussion and lacerations of the scalp.
She is the daughter of Mr & Mrs William Griffith.
The driver was the first traffic victim of 1955 in Columbiana County. there were no highway deaths at this time last year.
The patrol said Adkins' 1951 car swerved off the road on a downward curve about three miles east of Calcutta, the car apparently crashed into a ditch and then into the abutment. the car was headed toward Smith Ferry.
Adkins, a son of Mrs Erma Adkins, had been employed at the Crucible Steel Co for seven years, he was born in Smiths Ferry.
He was a member of CIO local 1212 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, James Adkins Jr of East Liverpool, and two sisters, Mrs Marion Sias and Mrs June Walls, both of East Liverpool.
Services will be held Wednesday morning at the Martin Funeral Home with the elder Clyde Danley officiating, assisted by Walter H. Moss of Washington, PA. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon and night.

David J. Adkins (Infant Adkins)

David J. Adkins, infant son of Pauline Adkins of 1022 Ambrose Ave, East Liverpool, and the late James Adkins, died Tuesday at 6:30pm at City Hospital.
He was born Sep 4 at the Hospital.
His father died March 20.
The child is survived by two brothers, James and Ricky, a sister, Sandra, all at home; the paternal grandmother, Mrs Erma Adkins of East Liverpool and the maternal grandfather, Wesley Higgins of St. Mary's, WVa.
Services wer to be held at 2pm today at the Martin Funeral Home with the Evangelist Ronald Meechan officiating.
Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Edith Adkins

Services will be held Tuesday at 2pm in the Martin Funeral Home for Mrs. Edith O'Brien Adkins of box 4927 Calcutta-Smithferry Rd. She died Saturday at 2:50 pm at City Hospital following a long illness.
Mrs Adkins was born in Wellsville, a daughter of George O'Brien and Alberta Fronz O'Brien. She resided her lifetime in the East Liverpool area.
Mrs Adkins retired in 1971 after 27 years of employment at the Homer Laughlin China Co. where she worked in the underglaze department of plant 6. She was formerly a mamber of IBPAW. She is survived by her husband, Arba Adkins, at home, a son, Raymond Adkins of East Liverpool; three brothers, Harry Lee O'Brien of Philadelphia, Charles J. O'Brien of Reno Nev.; and Earl O'Brien of San Bernadino, Calif; two sisters, Mrs William (Ethel Mae) Mills Sr. of east Liverpool and Mrs. Percy (Pearl Marie) Leech of Canton, and one grandchild.
Friends may call this afternoon and tonight at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Edna Louise Adkins

Mrs Edna Louise Adkins, 45, of 1849 Harvey Ave, wife of Willard Adkins, died this morning at 5:30 am at City Hospital ater an illness of several months.
A native of Hager WVa, Mrs Adkins was born Dec 12 1926, a daughter of Mrs. Mary F Harris Linkous of East Liverpool and the late John Linkous. She had resided in the area 28 years and was a member of the Boyce United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, whom she married Apr 27 1945; she leaves five sons, David ASdkins and Willard, at home, Melvin Adkins and John Adkins of East Liverpool and Tech 4C Ray Adkins, stationed with the army in Germany; three brothers John Linkous and Frank Linkous of East Liverpool and Charles Linkous of Detroit; two sisters Mrs Milton (Lucille) Linville and Mrs Toy (Ollie) Bursonof East Liverpool, and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 am at the Martin Funeral Home by Rev Paul George. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Rev. Elijah Adkins

Services were held Nov 13 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Sias, WVa for the Rev Elijah Adkins, 84 of Sias, who died Nov 11 at his home after a two-day illness.
He served as a Baptist missionary for 60 years and was a retired farmer and livestock dealer. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors incude neices and nephews from the East Liverpool and Newell area.
Burial was in Goldsberry Cemetery, Sias.

Eliza M. Adkins

Mrs Eliza Mildred Adkins, 74, widow of John Adkins, died Wednesday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs Stella Smith of 1805 Harvey, Ave; after a long illness.
She was born in Bland County VA, daughter of the late John and Dicey Fletcher Stowers. Mrs Adkins had come to East Liverpool in 1917. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs Erma Adkins, Mrs Mable Adkins and Mrs Sheba Collins; six sons, Ezra Adkins, Alva Adkins, Roy L. Adkins, Roma Adkins, and Raymond Adkins all of East Liverpool, and Daniel B. Adkins of Midland; a sister, Mrs Pocahontas Linkous of Griffithsville, WVa and 39 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Rites will be held tonight at 7:30 at the home of Mrs Smith by Elder Benjamin Louis Croft Jr.
Interment will be in Hager, WVa.

Illness takes life of potter at 65
Elmer Adkins, 65, of New Cumberland RD2, a potter at the Homer Laughlin China Co. died Friday at 12:30 pm at the Weirton General Hospital following an illness of four weeks.
He was born Sep 28 1897, at Huntington Wva to Columbus and Mary Kimbler Adkins and resided in this area 28 years. Employed as a striper at the pottery he was a member of IBOP.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs Lester Bias Adkins, at home; two daughters, Mrs Robert Milhoan of Newell and Mrs Juanita Ward of San Diego; thre sons, Donald Adkins of Detroit, Shirley Adkins of Canton,and Aviation App Pearley Adkins with the Navy in Jacksonville Fla; two brothers, Hubert Adkins and Roy Adkins both of Newell; two sisters Mrs Loretta Stark of Huntington, and Mrs Mary Lemming of Worthington, KY; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 1pm at the Chester ASrner Chapel by the Rev Wilbur Beaver, pastor of the Glendale Church of the Nazarene, Newell. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.

He was born May 21, 1915 in Hamlin, WVa, a son of Aurie and Valerie Adkins, and had resided here 33 years.
Mr Adkins was employed by the Brown Brothers Construction Co of Midland. he attended the Boyce United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs Hazel M Adkins, at home; a daughter, Mrs Anthony (Juanita Faye) Manzollio of Garden City NJ; two sons, Dennis J. Adkins of East Liverpool and David Adkins of Stow; three sisters, Mrs Hester Taber, Mrs Eunice Wheeler and Mrs Orie Holly of Hamlin; three brothers, Homer Adkins of Hamlin and Kenneth Adkins and Mineral Adkins both of Logan County WVa, and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 3:30 Pm at the Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev Paul George. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

She was born in Hager, WVa June 4 1899, a daughter of John Adkins and Eliza Stowers Adkins. She had resided in the East Liverpool area about 45 years, and belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. her husband died Oct 12, 1946.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Marion (Mabel) Sias of Calcutta and Mrs Lory (June) Ice of East Liverpool; three brothers, Raymond Adkins, Roma Adkins and Roy Adkins; and three sisters Mrs Mabel Collins, Mrs Sheba Collins and Mrs Stella Smith of East Liverpool, and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2pm at the Martin Funeral Home, with elders of the church in charge. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight.

Mrs Etta Ruth Adkins, 43, of Sherwood Ave, LaCroft, wife of Harley S. Adkins died Sunday at 12:15am at City Hospital where she had been a patient a week.
Mrs Adkins was born in Pine Grove WVa, Jan 20 1929, a daughter of Minnie Hartman Moore and the late Noah Moore.
She was a press operator at the National Church Supply Co in Chester with 13 years of service. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and local 643 of the Printing Specialty and Paper Products. She was married Sep 16 1948.
She is survived by two sons, Harley A. Adkins, stationed with the navy at Great Lakes, Ill and dennis Adkins at home; a daughter Mrs Dennis (Joyce) Bell of Greenville, PA; four brothers, Charles Moore and Arthur Moore, both of Pine Grove, Harold Moore of Canton and Robert Moore of East Liverpool, and three sisters, Mrs Harry (Mildred) Alkire of Mannington WVa, Mrs Edwin (Alma) Greathouse and Mrs Dan (Erma) Elliott, both of New Martinsville, WVa.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10am at the church by elders of the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Martin Funeral Home tonight and Tuesday night.

An East Liverpool party's trip to a funeral ended in tragedy when two died in a traffic crash near Cambridge.
Ezra Albert Adkins 62, operator of an East End service station was killed instantly at 11:58 Tuesday night, and Mrs Treva B. Gamble, 41, of Bloomfield, died at 8am today in Swan Hospital there.
Mr Adkins who resided at 1915 Harvey Ave, adjoining his gas station lived in the East Liverpool vicinity 25 years. He was born in Hamlin WVa, he was a carpenter until 1946.
He was a member of the Carpenters and Joiners Union and he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A widower, he is survived by five sons, Arba Adkins, Otis Adkins, Tony Adkins, Jay Adkins and Ruel Adkins.
Services will be held Friday by Elder E. Max Engemann of Youngstown. Place of the funeral will be determined later.
