Eldon Cessna, who designed the World War II-era P-51 Mustang and the F-86 fighter jet used in the Korean War, died Saturday at age 84. Cessna was the son of Clyde Cessna, founder of Cessna Aircraft Co., a commercial aircraft builder. In 1930, Eldon's Cessna's CG-2 glider helped pull his family company out of financial straits.
He left Cessna Aircraft in 1934 and joined Douglas Aircraft Co. as a design engineer. He went to North American Aviation -- later Rockwell International -- in 1938 and remained until his retirement in 1969. Publication Date: February 24, 1992

Russell O. Cessna, 60, who had worked for Conrail in Buffalo for many
years, died Saturday (July 20, 1996) at his Linden Road home following a long
illness.
Born in Kittanning, Pa., he moved here 20 years ago from Du Bois, Pa. He served in
the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elizabeth Bruzga; his mother, Annie Cessna of
Reynoldsville, Pa.; four sons, Ted of Buffalo, Russell of Pavilion, Douglas of Bunnell,
Fla., and Larry; a daughter, Christina; two sisters, Sarah King and Roxy, both of Du

Perry Allen Cessna, 81, Bradenton, died Aug. 28, 1999.
He was born in Danville, Ill., and moved to this area in 1955 from there. He was a
retired utility director for Manatee County.
He was an Army veteran and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in
Bradenton.
He was past president and honorary life member of the Florida Water and Pollution
Control Operators Association. He was past secretary/treasurer, vice president,
president and national director of the Florida Pollution Control Association. He was a
life member of the Water Pollution Control Federation and a member of the
American Water Works Association.
He was an adviser on water and waste-water problems to the governments of
Bangladesh, Singapore, Philippines, Liberia, and Egypt.
He was a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge No. 980, F. & A.M., in Danville and B.P.O.
No. 1511. He graduated from the University of Illinois. He received the Leroy Scott
Award, William Hatfield Award and Arthur Sidney Bedell Award.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; three daughters, Cathie M.
Antonelli of Bradenton, Pamela A. Benson of Nunehan Courtenay, England, and
Pattie of Caracas, Venezuela; a son, Bill P. of Tampa; a brother, Joseph O. of
Portland, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial for David Thomas Cessna, 40, will be celebrated at 10
a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Corona. He died Friday of
cancer at his home in Corona.

A memorial Mass for civil engineer Mark Eugene Cessna Jr. will be said at
11 a.m. Monday in the Presentation Catholic Church, Robertson and Norris avenues.
He died of cancer Thursday in his Sacramento home at age 66.
Mr. Cessna worked 30 years as a civil engineer and owned M.E.C. Consulting
Engineers Inc. of Sacramento for more than 10 years.
The Winnemucca, Nev., native served with the Marine Corps during World War II
and graduated from the University of Southern California.
He started working for the former California Division of Highways in the early 1950s
and was with the state Department of Water Resources from the early 1960s until
the mid-1970s.
After working in Iran and Jordan on major irrigation projects, he formed his private
consulting firm and worked throughout California and Arizona.
Mr. Cessna is survived by his wife of 44 years, "Babe" Cessna of Sacramento;
children, Hannah McMillen of Monterey, Mark E. Cessna III of Sacramento, Holly
Cessna of Arnold, Calaveras County, Kirk Cessna of Cerritos, Los Angeles County,
Jack Cessna of Livermore and Judith Thornton of Citrus Heights; a sister, Jeanne
Smith of Salinas; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Lombard & Co. mortuary,
2930 Auburn Blvd.

MANASSAS, Va. - Rosalie J. (Proko) Cessna, 28, of 10395 Dylan Place,
died of leukemia Sept. 13 in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. She
was ill a very short time.
She leaves her husband, Marc Cessna; her parents, Daniel A. Proko Sr. and Shirley
(Prendergast) Proko of Sterling, Va.; two brothers, Eugene C. Proko of Front Royal,

Mrs. Isabella Herring died at 8:30 O'clock this morning at the home of her son, James M. Herring, 1002 22nd Avenue. Her death was due to paralysis, she being stricken eight days ago. Deceased was 77 years old. She leaves these children, James M. of Fairview, Charles M. of Duncansville, Mary V. of Saxton, Mrs. Daniel Forney of Cumberland, Maryland. The services will take place at 7:45 o'clock tomorrow evening, conducted at the house. On Wednesday morning the remains will be taken on Seashore Express to Saxton, where at 9:45 o'clock, final services will be held in the church there. Interment in Folker's Cemetery.

Norwich, Kas., Nov. 23, [1954].(INS) - Funeral services were to be held in the Methodist church here this afternoon for Clyde V. Cessna, 74, pioneer airman, who died Saturday night at his home in Rago, Kas.
The founders of the Cessna Aircraft company in Wichita had been living on a farm at Rago, in semi-retirement the last few years.
Internationally know for his aviation achievements, Cessna produced Wichita's first airplane, which he flew in Oklahoma in 1911.
Surviving are his wife, Europa; a son, Eldon Cessna of El Segundo, Calif., and a daughter, Mrs. Wanda McVey of Whittier, Calif.

Glenn Robert Cessna
Glenn Rober Cessna was born October 9, 1921 at Belmont, Kansas to Roy E. Cessna and Goldie Dempsey Cessna and departed this life December 28, 1993 at Wichita, Kansas at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 19 days.
He was reared in the Belmont and Norwich area and attended Norwich schools. He graduated from Norwich High School with the class of 1940.
On July 23, 1942, Glenn entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II in France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in November 18, 1945.
Glenn was united in marriage to Edna Mae Hall in 1941. They made their first home near Coldwater and later moved to a farm 4 miles west of Viola. They were blessed with two sons: Donald and Mike.
Glenn later married Ruth Margaret Leff Phingsten in 1956. They made their home in Denver, Colorado and later Wichita. Glenn worked as a drywall contractor for 45 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Norwich, Kansas.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Dale Cessna and his wife Ruth in 1988.
He is survived by two sons: Donald R. Cessna of Norwich, Kansas; Michael K. Cessna of Conway Springs, Kansas; two step-sons: Eddie Pfingsten and Marvel Phingsten both of Mulvane, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

KANSAS -- Graveside services for Lloyd F. Cessna, 64, of 5885 W. Ohio 635, Kansas, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kansas Cemetery, the Rev. Ivan Schwenn officiating. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Mr. Cessna died at 10:07 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 1998 at Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He was born Oct. 2, 1933 in Seneca County to Clayton and Troas (Boyd) Cessna. He married Jerry A. Knepper in December 1953 in Angola, Ind., and she survives in Kansas, Ohio. Also surviving are a son, Dennis in Hawaii; two daughters, Cheryl Cessna, Fremont; Mrs. Cary (Debra) Huffman, Fostoria; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don and Fred, both of Kansas; Carl of Tiffin; and a sister, Jane Rossler, Fort Myers Beach, Fla. Mr. Cessna retired in 1989 as a millwright at Basic Inc., Maple Grove, after 38 years. He was a member of Kansas United Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Kansas Volunteer Fire Department since 1951. He was a Civil Defense member for Fremont-Sandusky County. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Fostoria. He graduated in 1951 from the former Jackson-Liberty High School. Memorials may be made to the Cessna family in care of the funeral home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria OH 44830; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Stella Baker
Mrs. Stella Eva Baker, 71, former Parsonian, died at 4 p.m. Monday in Kansas City, Kan. She had been making her home there with a daughter, Mrs. Ben Morrison, 2025 N. 15th St., for the past three years.
The former Stella Eva Cessna, she was born May 10, 1893, in Missouri. On Oct. 1, 1919, she was married to Sam Baker at Girard and they came to Parsons in 1923. Mr. Baker died in 1944.
From 1945 to 1949 Mrs. Baker worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant and later at the Alexander Bakery. She went from Parsons to Kansas City.
She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church of Parsons.
Other survivors include another daughter, Mrs. Charles Anders, Parsons, a son, Samuel Baker Jr., Fort Worth, Tex.; a sister Mrs. Florence Wardlow [sic] (Wadlow), Wichita; a brother, George Cessna, Denver; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Eva Baker, 71, who died Monday in Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Blossom Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carl Brooks. Burial will be in the family lot in McCune Cemtery [sic]."
MRS. ELIZABETH J. CESSNA
Widow of Geo. W. Cessna, died of tuberculosis at her home, 1700 Eighth avenue, at 12:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The deceased was a daughter of Jacob and Christian McMonigal and was born at Bald Eagle Furnace, Centre county, June 20, 1852. To mourn their loss are the following children: Albert, LeRoy, Emma, Marie and Jacob, at home; Mrs. Margaret McClellan of Tipton, and Edward Cessna of Marysville. These brothers and sisters also survive: William, Samuel, Mrs. John Arble, Mrs. Frederick Weidley, all of this city. She was a member of the First Methodist Episocpal church of Tyrone. The funeral services will be held at her late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Fairview cemetery.

EDWARD CESSNA
Aged 27, of 1326 Second avenue, died at 3.13 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Mercy hospital where he was admitted on Jan. 24. He was employed as chief clerk at the Shirley shoe store. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Clara (Love) Cessna; two children, Donald and Leroy; his mother, Mrs. Lottie Mae Wertz; two brothers and one sister. Charles and George Cessna and Mrs. Grace Sturtsman and a half sister, Mrs. Dorothy Wertz, all of the city. He was born in the city on July 30, 1909, a son of Leroy and Lottie (Fletcher) Wertz. Mr. Cessna was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal church where funeral services will be held at 2.30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment will be meade in St. Mary's cemetery. The body may be viewed at the home.

CLARA E. WESTLEY
Mrs. Westley, 75, of 1303 3rd Ave., died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 1984, after a brief illness.
She retired as a private duty nurse.
She was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Altoona, a daughter of David and Mary (Kohler) Love, and was twice married, first to Edward Cessna and then to Richard Larry Westley.
Surviving are her husband, six children, Edward L. Cessna of Glen Burnie, Md., Candace Varner and Donald W. of Riverside, Calif., David G. of San Anita, Calif., Alicia Burk of Altoona and Ruth Love at home: 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving are two sisters: Helen Buck and Mary Willnecker of Altoona.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Auxiliary of Catholic Nurses, the Bavarian Ladies Aid Society, Columbian Circle, Nocturnal Adoration, the Catholic Daughters of America and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Westley will repose at the T.J. Stevens Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
WESTLEY - The funeral of Clara E. Westley of 1303 3rd Ave. will be held with a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Of 1329 18th Ave. died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 1979, in the Altoona Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Cessna retired from the Penn Central in 1972 as a boilermaker after 36 years' service. Following his retirement, he worked as a member of the staff of Judge Eugene Ianuzzi. He was born Sept. 3, 1911, in Altoona, the son of Leroy and Carlotta (Fletcher) Cessna, and married Martha Ann Guyer. Surviving are his wife, two children, Mrs. Jeanne Wilson and Edward of Altoona, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a brother and two sisters, Charles of Altoona, Grace of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Dorothy Harvey of Philadelphia. Three grandchildren, Mrs. Joleen Vicars of Altoona, Craig Orberg of Chicago, Ill., and Beth Orberg, at home, were raised in the home. Mr. Cessna was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Juniata, and the men's Bible class. He served on the church council as an usher and was a member of the finance committee. Friends will be received in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and in the Trinity Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

EDWARD G. CESSNA
Edward G. Cessna, 62, Eleventh Street Tower, Apt. 216, Altoona, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at his daughter's home in East Freedom.
He was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Altoona, son of the late George A. and Martha Ann (Guyer) Cessna.
Mr. Cessna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata, where he sang in the choir.
He worked in self-employed sales during his working career.
Mr. Cessna was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1956.
He served in the U.S. Army, Intelligence Division.
Mr. Cessna was a member of Tres Dias Ecumenical Group, was a former member and past president of the Altoona Jaycees and served as a Jaycee state senator, was past chairman of the Blair County Democratic Committee and past board member of the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant.
Surviving are a son, Scott G. of Altoona; a daughter, Karen L. Stalter of East Freedom; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be recieved from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata. Funeral services for Edward G. Cessna will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. John P. Klingeman. Interment at Blair Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.

Mrs. Jeanne Louise Wilson, 60, Morrisons Cove Horne, Martinsburg, formerly of 561 53rd St., died early Thursday morning, Oct. 30, 1997, at the home, following a brief illness.
She was born May 4, 1937, in Altoona, the daughter of George Albert and Martha Ann (Guyer) Cessna. She married Roloand H. Wilson Feb. 15, 1975, in Altoona.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Juniata.
She had been employed as a secretary at Blair Showcase and Lighting, Bellwood.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters: Joleen G. Hoover of Martinsburg and Beth A. McNeal of Altoona; a son, Richard C. Orberg of Altoona; a brother, Edward G. of Altoona; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Friends will be received from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Juniata.
