1954 - LESTER ALEXANDER CRIBBS, 36, of Creekside RD 1, died Saturday [Sept. 18, 1954] at 9 a.m. on the Lamson Schrecengost farm from internal injuries received in a tractor accident.
Born January 27, 1918, in Indiana County, South Mahoning Township, son of Calvin and Anna Ray Cribbs, he was a farmer and coal miner. He was a member of Mt. Union Lutheran Church.
Surviving him are: His wife, Dorothy Kough Cribbs, and four children: Harry aged 12, Margaret 9, Helen 8, and Clark 6; his parents of Creekside RD 1; one brother and five sisters: George Cribbs of Creekside RD 1; Mrs. Garfield (Nettie) Cramer of Creekside; Mrs. Jesse (Martha) Kough of Apollo; Mrs. Roy (Annabelle) Blystone of Creekside; Mrs. Joe (Betty) Andrews of Sagamore and Miss Mary Ellen Cribbs of Creekside.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, in Mt. Union Lutheran Church, his pastor the Rev. Howard Amick, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Union cemetery.
Friends will be received at his late home until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
1970 - CALVIN L. CRIBBS, 78, of Creekside RD 1, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1970, at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning.
Born Jan. 7, 1892, at Plumville he was a son of George and Margaret Little Cribbs.
Mr. Cribbs was married Sept. 28, 1916, to Mrs. Annie Ray Cribbs.
He was a member of the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church, Five Points, and was a member of the UMWA Local 473, Sagamore.
He was a retired coal miner and a lifelong resident of the area.
Surviving are his wife, a son and five daughters: George, at home; Mrs. Garfield (Nettie) Cramer, Mrs. Roy (Annabelle) Blystone, and Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Andrews, all of Creekside RD; Mrs. Jesse (Martha) Kough, Apollo RD 3; Mrs. Gerald (Mary Ellen) Peffer, Marchand; two brothers and four sisters: James Cribbs, Creekside RD; John Cribbs, Ohio; Mrs. Jane Adamson, Home; Mrs. Rose Ruffner, Ohio; Mrs. Minnie Haggerty, Indiana RD; Mrs. Blanche Nyland, Belsano; 30 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lester, in 1954.
Friends will be received at the Bowser Funeral Home, Plumville, today from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Merkner, officiating. Interment will be made in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
1984 - JAMES R. CRIBBS, 79, of Creekside RD 1, died Monday, April 16, 1984, in the Indiana Hospital.
A son of George H. and Elizabeth Little Cribbs, he was born Oct. 23, 1904, in Indiana County.
Mr. Cribbs was a member of the UMWA and had been a coal miner for 51 years.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche Donahue Cribbs; three sons: Floyd P. and David J., both of Creekside RD 1; Roy B., Bensalem; four daughters: Mrs. Richard (Ruby) Houck, Cherry Hill, N.J.; Mrs. James (Pearl) Fowler, Falling Waters, W. Va.; Mrs. Larry (Ruth) Harpster, Mechanicsville, Va.; Mrs. Gerald (Alice) McIntyre, NuMine; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, John, Belsano; one sister, Jane Adamson, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Calvin; three sisters: Blanche Nyland, Rose Ruffner, Minnie Haggerty.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald S. Bowser Funeral Home, Plumville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Art Dyer will officiate with interment in the Ruffner Cemetery.
1941 - GEORGE A. CRIBBS, Funeral rites were held Sunday [Dec. 24, 1941] in Plumville Presbyterian church for George A. Cribbs, aged 67, of Plumville, who died Wednesday in his home. A son of Henry and Elizabeth (Harkleroad) Cribbs, he was born December 25, 1874, and had lived in Washington township 20 years before locating in Plumville. For a number of years he was a merchant in Blairsville, Willet and Plumville.
Surviving are his widow and these children: Mrs. Effie Adamson and Mrs. Rose Ruffner, Plumville; Calvin and James Cribbs, and Mrs. Minnie Haggerty, Creekside, and John Cribbs, Sagamore. He also leaves 30 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
1907 - HENRY GEORGE CRIBBS, H. G. Cribbs died at the home of his son, George, near Plumville, on Thursday, June 13, 1907, aged about 74 years. He had been in poor health for a number of years, being afflicted with paralysis and the general debility incident to old age. He was well known and highly respected in that community, where he has lived for about 40 years. He conducted a store there for about 20 years. He leaves besides a large circle of friends, one brother and two sisters, and six sons and two daughters as follows: L. A. Cribbs, of Pomona, Mich.; William T., Elmer, Christopher T., George A., Mrs. W. Hoover, and Mrs. A. Galentine, all of whom reside in Plumville, and James G., of Denton. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Smucker, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member. Interment followed in Beracha cemetery.
1926 - MRS. MARGARET L. CRIBBS, wife of George Cribbs of Washington township, died on February 5th of complication of diseases, aged 56 years. She is survived by her husband, three sons, Calvin, James and John of Washington township and four daughters, Mrs. John Adamson, of South Mahoning township, Mrs. Patrick Haggerty, of near Advance, Mrs. Charles Nyland of Sykesville and Mrs. Jack Nyland of Washington township; also these brothers and sisters William T. Little of Brushvalley, Mrs. Wm. Fry of near Chambersville, Charles C. Little of Indiana, Mrs. Solomon Weaver of South Mahoning and Mrs. Bert Pifer of near Marion Center. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and interment made in Beracha cemetery.
1932 - GEORGE IRVIN CRIBBS, Funeral services for George Irvin Cribbs, 67, retired Pennsylvania Railroad Company employe and former Indiana county resident, whose death occurred Wednesday night at his home in Derry, were conducted in his late residence at 2:30 P.M. today in charge of the Rev. W. T. Robinson, minister of the Derry Methodist Episcopal Church. Interment was made in a Derry cemetery.
His death was caused by pneumonia, with which he was stricken last Sunday. He was born in Black Lick, Indiana county, on September 21, 1864, the son of Jacob A. Cribbs and Nancy (Boyle) Cribbs, and had resided in Derry for many years.
He entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company as a brakeman on October 20, 1885. Fourteen months later he lost his left arm in the performance of his duties. On his recovery he was assigned as gateman at Homewood, in Pittsburgh. He was later transferred to Derry as a caller, in which capacity he served until May 22, 1918. On account of a shortage of car inspectors at that time, he was transferred to that work and a year later was made tool room attendant at Derry. For some years prior to his retirement under the pension regulations of the railroad company on January 1, 1930, he had been unable to perform active duties because of poor health.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie (Madison) Cribbs; three sons Joseph M. Cribbs, Richard D. Cribbs, Robert I. Cribbs, all of Derry; a daughter, Mrs. J. Eugene Dodds, of Derry; two brothers, Charles Cribbs and Albert Cribbs, both of Freeport; and two sisters: Mrs. Ida Altman of Chambersville, and Mrs. Jessie Clark of Butler.
1989 - ANNA M. CRIBBS, 91, Creekside RD 1, died Thursday, June 29, 1989, at the Indiana Hospital.
The daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Peterson Ray, she was born Sept. 27, 1897, in Washington Township.
Mrs. Cribbs was a member of Harmony Grove Lutheran Church.
She was a housewife.
Surviving are one son and five daughters: George, Mrs. Wayne (Nettie) Wise, both of Creekside RD 1; Mrs. Jesse (Martha) Kough, Spring Church; Mrs. Anna Belle Blystone, Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Andrews, both of Creekside RD 1; Mrs. Gerald (Mary Ellen) Peffer, Marchand; 33 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Cribbs, in 1970; her parents; a son, Lester; a brother, Ralph Ray.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Plumville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Richard P. Cooper officiating. Interment follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
1957 - MRS. IDA ELCORA CRIBBS, of Rural Valley, RD 1, passed away on Saturday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Memorial Hostpital.
She was born September 20, 1895, in Rural Valley the daughter of the late William and Henrietta (Wise) Rearick.
She was a member of St. Paul Reformed Church also the Rebekah Lodge of Rural Valley.
Surviving are her husband, Porter Cribbs and one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Smith of Kittanning RD 2, also two grandchildren.
One sister, Mrs. Anna Hawkins of Kittanning RD 5; two brothers, Flol Rearick, St. Petersburg, Florida and Raymond Rearick of Kittanning RD 5.
Friends will be received at the Edwards Funeral Home, Rural Valley, until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19 and at the St. Paul Reformed Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at which time services will be conducted by the Rev. Jacob Painter of Elderton. Interment in the Elderton Cemetery.
1957 - CLARK CRIBBS, 82, of Rural Valley, RD 1 passed away at 9:50 p.m. Monday, April 15, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Reba Shaffer of Elderton. He was born November 28, 1874, at Plumcreek Twp., a son of Michael and Barbara Cessna Cribbs.
He is survived by five sons: Porter, Arthur and Alex, all of Rural Valley RD 1; Logan, Leechburg RD 1; Harry, New Kensington RD 1; three daughters, Mrs. Reba Shaffer, mentioned above; Mrs. Imogene Cravener, Kittanning RD 5 and Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Warren, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Mr. Cribbs was a lifetime resident of the Rural Valley area, a farmer by occupation and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Gastown.
Friends will be received at the Clark Funeral Home, Elderton, after 7:00 p.m. today. Services will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, April 18, at 3:00 p.m. by the Rev. Howard Amick of Elderton and the Rev. Oscar Wood of South Bend, Pa. Interment will be in the Elderton Cemetery.
1987 - WINIFRED WEST CRIBBS, 87, of Rural Valley RD 1, died suddenly Wednesday, April 16, 1987, at her home.
A daughter of Thomas and Winifred Morrison Sherwood, she was born Sept. 6, 1898, in Coal Hill, Ark.
Mrs. Cribbs was a member of the Pleasant Union Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, Porter Cribbs; a son, Frank West, Dayton RD 2; three daughters: Mrs. Richard (Winifred) Frederick, Rural Valley; Magda West, Rural Valley RD 1; Patricia Hartzell, Concord, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Smith, Kittanning RD 2; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Williams, California.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Morock; a brother, Joseph Sherwood.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Gerald J. Bishop Funeral Home, Rural Valley, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Mindy Heppe will officiate with interment to follow in the Sagamore Cemetery.
1965 - ROBERT CLARK CRIBBS, 43, Gilpin Twp., died yesterday, Feb. 9, at 2:30 p.m. in his home of an apparent heart attack.
He had reported off work and visited his doctor in the morning because of not feeling well when arising from bed. He worked the previous day at his job as a roller helper at the West Leechburg plant of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., where he had been employed since 1941.
Born in Gilpin Twp., Nov. 30, 1922 to Logan Lester and Goldie Iona Myers Cribbs, he married the former Rosalene Bierer on Dec. 31, 1947 in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leechburg. He had lived in Gilpin Twp. all his life, and since 1947 at his late residence.
He served as a Sergeant in the Army during World War I of the 817 tank destroyers.
A member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was also a member of Leechburg Lodge No. 577 of the F&AM and a member of local 1138 of the CIO, Leechburg.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Beverly Ann; a son, Robert Clark Jr., both at home; his parents residing in Gilpin Twp.; two brothers, Logan Cribbs, Sarver, and Harold M. Cribbs, Gilpin Twp.; three sisters, Mrs. Walter (June) Klingensmith, and Mrs. Dorothy McElfresh, both of Gilpin Twp., and Mrs. Timothy (Lona Lee) Keagle, Kittanning.
Friends are being received in the Dean W. Cline Funeral Home, 260 Market St., Leechburg, until 1:15 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with his pastor, Randall F. Peters, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Forks cemetery.
1974 - MRS. GEORGE H. (EVALYN GERTUDE CRIBBS) SMITH, 56, Warren, Ohio, died at 3:46 this morning at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1918 in Elderton, Pa., she had resided in the Warren area since 1941, going there from Apollo. She was employed for 31 years as secretary for Local No. 1375 of the Steelworkers Union at Warren. She was past president of the Warren Toastmistress Club. A member of the Trumbull Duplicate Bridge Club, past high priestess of Ruth Shrine No. 61, member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem's Morning Light Chapter No. 80, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She attended First Presbyterian Church, Warren. Her parents were the late Clark and Lona (Bell) Cribbs. On Jan. 4, 1937, she married George H. Smith, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert Flickinger of Houston, Texas; a son, Robert Smith of Howland Township, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Glenn Shaffer of Elderton; four brothers; Arthur and Alex, both of Elderton; Porter of Rural Valley and Harry of New Kensington; and four grandchildren.
1989 - MABEL G. CRIBBS, 93, formerly of Blairsville, died Wednesday, July 19, 1989, in Indian Haven, Indiana [County].
The daughter of Charles M. and Margaret Ellen Long Cramer, she was born Nov. 5, 1895, in Blacklick Township, Indiana County.
Mrs. Cribbs was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Ferguson, Windber; two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Cribbs; two sons: Clair G. and Charles M.
No visitation will be held. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Blairsville Cemetery. Arrangements are in the charge of Ferguson-Helm Funeral Home, Blairsville.

1975 - GEORGE C. CRIBBS, 78, Avonmore RD 2, died Saturday, March 29, 1975 at Latrobe Area Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1896 at Sandy Valley.
Mr. Cribbs was a veteran of World War I; a member of the Baptist Church; and a member of the Blairsville American Legion for over 50 years.
Surviving are three sons: George Jr., DuBois; Robert, New Derry; and Harry W., at home; four daughters: Miss Betty Cribbs, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Andrew (Isabelle) Burik, Derry; Mrs. Charles (Naomi) Keller, Saltsburg; and Miss Pansy Cribbs, Saltsburg RD 2; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

1958 - MRS. BESS P. (CARSON) CRIBBS, 30 North Brady Street, Blairsville, died yesterday, June 13, at Indiana Hospital.
She was born April 12, 1874, in Black Lick.
Survivors include three sons: Delbert C., Buffalo, N.Y.; John W., Danville, Pa., and Arthur L., Blairsville; and several grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville, where services will be held on Monday, June 16, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Blairsville Cemetery. Rev. Addison Pero will officiate.
1976 - H. FRANK CRIBBS, 63, of Shelocta RD 3, formerly of Spring Church Star Route, died Tuesday, May 25, 1976 at Indiana.
A son of Daniel D. and Emma J. Cooper Cribbs, he was born July 10, 1912 at Apollo.
Mr. Cribbs was a member, ruling elder, former trustee, and former Sunday School superintendent of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Clarksburg.
He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.
Surviving are his widow, Sara Martha Shearer Cribbs; five sons: Richard R., Blairsville RD 2; H. Keith, Blairsville RD 1; Doyle E., Titusville; Thomas F., Indiana; Jerry L., Shelocta RD 3; two daughters: Mrs. Robert (Judy) Simpson, Shelocta RD 3; Mrs. Kenneth (Sandy) Sharp, Shelocta RD 3; his mother, Indiana; three brothers: Albert P., Saltsburg; Clyde D., Cleveland, Ohio; Ralph M., Leechburg RD; Mrs. John (Esther) Craig, Shelocta RD 3; Mrs. Harry (Anabel) Hopkins, Cleveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren.

1972 - MRS. DORIS J. CRIBBS STUCHELL, 44, Blairsville RD 2, died from a lengthy illness at her home on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 1972.
Born Oct. 8, 1928 in Blairsville, she was the daughter of Wilson H. and Lillian Walker Cribbs, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Samuel B. Stuchell and one daughter, Beverly Ann, at home; four brothers, William W. Cribbs, Vandergrift; Paul W. Cribbs, Apollo; Milton E., Blairsville and James R., Blairsville; one sister, Mrs. William (Jean) George, Derry.
She was a member of the Black Lick United Methodist Church and had been a resident of the area for her entire life.

1992 - WALTER C. CRIBBS, 85, 349 Water St., Indiana, formerly of Plumville, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1992, at the home of his daughter in Punxsutawney RD 4.
The son of James Grant and Mary Elizabeth McKee Cribbs, he was born March 15, 1907, in Plumville.
Mr. Cribbs had lived most of his life in Plumville prior to moving to Indiana.
Prior to his retirement, he had been the owner/operator of a gas station in Plumville.
Surviving are one son, Jerry G. Cribbs, New Alexandria; one daughter, Judy Stahlman, Punxsutawney RD 4; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mrs. Ettie Lukehart Cribbs; brothers Cloud and James Cribbs; one sister, Alberta Parsons; and an infant sister, Elsie.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Robinson-Lytle's, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Glenn McQuown officiating. Interment will follow in the Marion Center Memorial Cemetery.

1922 - ARMOUR PHILIP CRIBBS, A. P. Cribbs of Clarksburg died Saturday evening [11 Mar 1922] after a week's illness of pneumonia. He was 71 years of age. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Mullen of Apollo; his widow; two daughters, Mabel and Cyntha, at home and two sons, John, of Clarksburg, and Rev. Charles C. Cribbs of Apollo.
The funeral service will be at his late home at Clarksburg on Tuesday at 10 A.M. The interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana. The funeral party will arrive over the P.R.R. at 2:27 P.M.
1979 - MARGARET JANE CRIBBS STEWART, 77, 36 S. 16th St., Indiana, died Friday, Aug. 10, 1979, at her home.
A daughter of John and Myrtilda Cribbs, she was born April 27, 1902, in Young Township.
A wife of the late, Floyd W. Stewart, she was a member of the Graystone United Presbyterian Church, the Degree of Honor Lodge, the Rebekah Lodge, the Queen Esther Class of her church. A graduate of the Indiana Normal School, she taught in the Creekside and Coal Run schools.
Surviving are two children: John F., Richland Township, Cambria County; Evelyn M. Stewart, at home; three brothers: Hazeltine Gemmell, Homer City RD 2; Mack, Indiana; Wilbur, Hillsdale; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Clara Mae Gimmell.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Richard T. Bell Funeral Home, Indiana, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Richard Cassel will officiate with interment in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
1989 - ANNA G. CRIBBS, 78, of Latrobe died Thursday, Dec. 21, 1989 in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Cribbs was born Sept. 17, 1911 in West Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, daughter of the late Robert and Anna Lewis Singer. She was retired from the former Troutman's Department Store, Latrobe, and was a member of Latrobe United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clinton (Janice) Ferguson, Pittsburgh and Mrs. Alan (Bobbie) Stephens, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Also surviving are six grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; her brother Robert, Ligionier RD 1; three sisters, Mary Ellen Williams, Mrs. Jacob (Norma) Lohr and Mrs. Richard (Verna) Fry, all of Latrobe.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert I. on Oct. 26; her sister Venetta Finley.
Services were held Saturday in Latrobe, Rev. Kenneth McGowan officiating. Interment followed in Coles Cemetery, Derry.
1991 - ROSE GUARNERO CRIBBS, 81, 469 Second St., Leechburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1991, at 4:10 a.m. in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.
Born Dec. 25, 1909, in Leechburg, she lived at her Second St. home the past 45 years.
Mrs. Cribbs was a member of St. Catherine Roman Catholic Church and Guild, member and past regent of the Catholic Daughters of America and member and past president of the Woman's Club, all in Leechburg. She was also a member of the Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxilliary.
Survivors include two sons, William L. Cribbs, Lakeview, N.Y., and J. Richard Cribbs, Lower Burrell; four grandchildren; and a brother, John Guarnero, Munster, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband William L. Cribbs; her parents, Secondo and Josephine Ferraris Guarnero; a brother, Peter Guarnero; and a sister Margaret Evans.
Funeral arrangements were by Clawson's, A Community Care Funeral Home, Second at Main Sts., Leechburg, where a parting prayer service was held. A Christian Funeral Mass followed in St. Catherine Church with her pastor, the Rev. Dominic G. Pozzuoli, as celebrant.

1958 - DORIS JEAN YATES CRIBBS, of Black Lick died November 20 at 10:30 at her home.
She was born in California, Pa., July 28, 1923, daughter of Clarence H. and Margaret Nickles Yates. She was a charter member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Blairsville, and members of the Blairsville Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are: Her husband, William D. Cribbs of Black Lick; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence H. Yates of Blairsville; three sisters, Mrs. E. C. (Betty) Smith of Byesville, Ohio; Mrs. Nick (Elinor) Simanovich of Brenizer; Mrs. D. R. (Audrey) Smith of Blairsville.
Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville, until 1 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 23, the Rev. Howard J. Hansen, officiating. Interment will follow in Blairsville Cemetery.
1964 - MRS. LILLIAN WALKER CRIBBS, of 26 East Ranson Avenue, Blairsville, passed away Sunday, March 1, 1964, at her late residence.
Born October 16, 1895 in Blairsville, she was a daughter of the late Scott and Della Johnston Walker.
Mrs. Cribbs was a member of the First Regular Baptist Church of Blairsville, and the Dorcas Bible Class, Missionary Society and Ladies Aid Society of the Church.
Survivors include her husband Wilson H. Cribbs, and the following children: Mrs. William (Jane) George, Derry; Mrs. Samuel (Doris) Stuchell, Blairsville RD 2; William H. and Paul Cribbs, both of Vandergrift, and Milton E. and James R. Cribbs, both of Blairsville.
Friends may pay their respect at the Ferguson and Son Funeral Home, Blairsville, after 7 p.m. this evening, and from 2-4 and 7-10 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Palmer L. Washburn, officiating. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery.
1952 - REBECCA JEAN CRIBBS, Graveside services were held this afternoon at 3:30 for Rebecca Jean Cribbs, infant daughter of George Ellsworth and Edna Pearl Walbeck Cribbs of Homer City RD.
The child was born February 8, 1952 and died February 9, at the Indiana Hospital.
In addition to her parents the baby is survived by a sister Charlene, 13 and a brother Tommy, 10.
Interment was in the Coral Lutheran Cemetery, with the Rev. James Hersman of Luciusboro Wesleyan Methodist Church officiating.
Services were in charge of the Askew Funeral Home, Homer City.
1983 - DOROTHY E. CRIBBS, 70, of Armagh [PA], died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 1983, in Spring Hill, Hernando County, Fla.
A daughter of William W. and Winifred Spackman Wakefield, she was born April 25, 1912, in Seward.
Mrs. Cribbs was a member of the Cooper Avenue United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Harry M. Cribbs; one brother, Warren H. Wakefield, Dade City, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Lois J. Conrad, Seward; a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Kenneth N. Gray Funeral Home, Seward, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Bertram Domineck will officiate with interment in the Armagh Cemetery.
1985 - ROBERT W. CRIBBS, 65, of Superior, Derry RD 2, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1985 at Latrobe Area Hospital.
Mr. Cribbs was born May 5, 1920 in DuBois, son of the late George and Ann Cribbs. He was a retired Con-Rail employee, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Latrobe American Legion and Derry Ukrainian Club.
Survivors include his wife Stella Bialas Cribbs; three sons, Robert W. Jr., Latrobe, and John J. and Stanley R., both at home; his daughter Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Byce, New Alexandria; three grandchildren;
Also surviving are his brother Harry, Saltsburg; four sisters, Betty, Pittsburgh, Isabell Burik, Derry and Naomi and Pansy, both of Saltsburg.
Services were held Friday at Quinlisk Funeral Home, Derry, Rev. Method Mraz officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Derry.
1985 - PAUL W. "CRIBBY" CRIBBS, 65, of 803 Terace Ave., Apollo, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1985, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
A son of Wilson and Lillian Walker Cribbs, he was born Nov. 30, 1920, at Neville Island, Pa.
Mr. Cribbs was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Apollo and former member of the Blacklick, Vandergrift, and Apollo fire companies.
He had been employed by Otto Milk Company until its closing. Mr. Cribbs retired from the U. S. Postal System in 1983 where he was employed as a rural mail carrier. He had been a resident of Apollo for the past 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Freed Cribbs, to whom he had been married for 45 years; a son, Gary E. Cribbs of Newville; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Debbie L.) Flickinger of Apollo and Mrs. Larry (Karen L.) Melvin of Camp Hill; two brothers, Milton E. and James R. both of Blairsville; and a sister, Mrs. William (Jane) George of Derry.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William, and a sister, Doris Stuchell.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Gary P. Curran Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., Apollo, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Rev. Mike Moleski will officiate. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
1887 - EMMA E. CRIBBS, wife of Mr. Frank Cribbs, of near Clarksburg [PA], died on Wednesday, March 30, and her infant child died a few hours after. Mrs. Cribbs was well known to many of our readers as Emma Ferguson, a daughter of ex-commissioner Elliot Ferguson, now deceased. She married Mr. B. F. Cribbs while she was quite young and was the mother of eight children, two of whom are dead. She was 34 years of age.
1938 - MRS. CATHERINE (METZ) CRIBBS, 79, a resident of Blacklick for 50 years, died in Indiana Hospital last night [Dec. 21, 1938]. A daughter of Daniel and Margaret (Short) Metz, she was born May 11, 1859. Her early life was spent in Cokeville and Hillsdale.
Her husband, C. Marion Cribbs, died 12 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Capen, at home; a son, Ralph H. Cribbs, Blacklick; a step-daughter, Mrs. B. F. Marshall, Blacklick and three sisters: Mrs. Mary Rager of Blacklick, Mrs. Emma Fielding of Millvale and Mrs. Margaret Goss of Homer City.
Funeral services will be conducted in her late residence at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Coral Lutheran Cemetery.
1970 - WILSON H. CRIBBS, 81, of 26 East Ranson Ave., Blairsville, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1970, at the Indiana Hospital.
Born in East Mahoning Twp. Oct. 1, 1881, he was a son of Samuel M. and Ria Work Cribbs.
He was a retired employe of the United Engineering Co. in Vandergrift and a former clerk at the Blairsville Borough office.
Mr. Cribbs was a member of the Independent Baptist Church, Blairsville.
Surviving are four sons and two daughters: William W., with whom he made his home, Vandergrift; Paul W., Apollo; Milton E. and James R., both of Blairsville; Mrs. William (Jane) George, Derry; Mrs. Samuel (Doris) Stuchell, Blairsville RD 2; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Walker Cribbs in March, 1964.

1991 - BLANCHE DONAHUE CRIBBS, 84, Creekside RD 1, died Saturday, June 8, 1991, at Indian Haven, Indiana [PA].
A daughter of Porter and Laura Lowman Donahue, she was born Dec. 14, 1906, in Dixonville.
Having lived all of her life in the Creekside area, Mrs. Cribbs was a member of the World Wide Church of God.
She was a housewife.
Surviving are four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Richard (Ruby) Houck, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. James (Pearl) Fowler, Titusville, Fla.; Mrs. Larry (Ruth) Harbster, Richmond, Va.; Mrs. Jerry (Alice) McIntyre, NuMine; Floyd, Creekside RD 1; Bernard, Bensalem; David, Creekside RD 1; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Kiser, Brookville RD 1.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cribbs, in 1984; one granddaughter; her parents; two brothers: Don and Floyd Donahue; three sisters: Goldie Houser, Mamie Shank and Minerva Donahue.

1991 - PORTER BLAKE CRIBBS, 93, of Rural Valley, died Friday, (Nov. 1, 1991) at Scenery Hill Manor Nursing Home, Indiana.
He was born Nov. 7, 1897, in Armstrong County, to the late Clark and Lona Lee (Bell) Cribbs.
He was a gas well driller for more than 70 years, retiring in 1977. Mr. Cribbs was also a farmer.
He was a member of the Pleasant Union Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Shirley Smith of Kittanning; two brothers, Alex Cribbs of Rural Valley and Arthur Cribbs of Elderton; one sister Mrs. Reba Shaffer of Elderton; two grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Ida E. Rearick Cribbs, who died in 1957; his second wife, Winifred West Cribbs, who died in 1986; two brothers, Harry and Logan Cribbs; and two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Smith and Mrs. Jean Cravener.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark Chapel of Elderton, A Community Care Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Elderton Cemetery.
1959 - ALVIN M. CRIBBS, Services were held for Alvin M. Cribbs in the Vandergrift Cemetery, August 10, 1959.
Born in Indiana County where he spent the early part of his life, he was a son of the late George Harrison and Clara Beatty Cribbs. For many years he resided in Vandergrift where he was an employee of the Iron and Steel Mills. In recent years he had resided in Ohio.
His wife, Rose Huston Cribbs preceded him in death in 1948.
Surviving are: one son, Robert Cribbs, Canton, Ohio; two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was a brother of the late Mrs. John Gemmell, Indiana, Pa.
1933 - MRS. CLARA BEATTY CRIBBS, Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter in Jacksonville [PA], followed by interment in Oakland cemetery, of town, for Mrs. Clara Beatty Cribbs, aged 89 years, who died on Friday at her home in Jacksonville. The deceased, who was a life-long resident of the Jacksonville community, was born April 17, 1844, and was a long-time member of the M. E. church. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. F. W. McConnell. She leaves these children: Mrs. Edith Ferguson, of Jacksonville; Mrs. Tillie Gemmell, of town; Mrs. Bell Douds, of Livermore; Mrs. Mabel Collins, of Marion Center; Mrs. Lulu Cribbs, of Pittsburgh, and Alvin M. Cribbs, of Newton Falls, Ohio.
1934 - MRS. MARY ZETTA (CRIBBS) FLEMING, aged 70 years, wife of W. E. Fleming, of near Livermore, died at her home early this morning [Jan. 1934] with a complication of diseases. She was a daughter of Harrison and Mrs. Cora (Beatty) Cribbs, was born on February 17, 1864, and spent the greater part of her lifetime in that section of the county. She was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian church for many years and was highly esteemed. Surviving are her husband, W. E. Fleming, and the following daughters and son: Mrs. Mildred Paul, Blairsville; Mrs. F. E. Smith, Lousiville, Ohio; Mrs. Twila Lee, Blairsville; Mrs. Clara Wyncoop, Elkland, Pa.; Mrs. Edith Ferguson, Kent; Mrs. Tillie Gemmell, Indiana; Mrs. Della Douds, Livermore; Raymond Fleming, Blairsville. A brother, A. M. Cribbs, lives in Newton Falls, Ohio. Surviving sisters are Mrs. Lula O'Neil, Pittsburgh; and Mrs. Mabel Collins, Marion Center. Funeral services will be held in Ebenezer Presbyterian church on Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock by Rev. J. V. Mountain, of Clarksburg. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.
1989 - MILTON E. CRIBBS, 64, of Blairsville died Friday, March 3, 1989 at Indiana Hospital.
Mr. Cribbs was born July 12, 1924 in Blairsville, son of Wilson H. and Lillian A. Walker Cribbs.
Prior to retirement in 1986, he was employed by Westinghouse Specialty metals, Blairsville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Blairsville, a charter member of the Blairsville VFW, a former member of the Blairsville Fire Department and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife Patricia L. Goodlin Cribbs; two sons, Paul E. and Samuel, both of Blairsville; five grandchildren; his brother James R., Blairsville; his sister Mrs. William (Jane) George, Derry.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Stuchell; two brothers, William and Paul.
Services were held Monday at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, Rev. Ernest C. Ferguson officiating. Interment followed in Blairsville Cemetery.
1925 - MR. & MRS. GEORGE WASHINGTON CRIBBS, George W. Cribbs and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Cribbs, prominent residents of West Wheatfield township, were instantly killed Thursday evening about 9 o'clock, when George's team became frightened and ran away. Mr. Cribbs and his wife had just returned from a visit with friends in Heshbon. As they entered the barnyard, the front wheel of the wagon locked under the wagon bed. The horses became frightened and broke loose and with the front end of the wagon ran for three miles before they were stopped. The aged couple were thrown from the wagon and from appearances must have been dragged all around the barnyard before the horses got out of the yard. Both bodies were terribly mangled. The couple leave four sons: O. L. Cribbs, Pennsylvania Railroad freight agent at Greensburg; S. C. Cribbs, of Denver, Colo.; A. H. Cribbs, of St. Paul, Minn., and W. O. Cribbs, of Shelbyville, Ind.
1926 - MARION CRIBBS, aged 81 years, died suddenly at his home at Graffton, near Blacklick, on Tuesday night, July 6th. He was a Civil war veteran and is survived by his wife and three children. Funeral services were held on Friday in the Lutheran church at Coral and interment was made in the Coral graveyard. Another clipping: C. MARION CRIBBS, aged 81 years, a veteran of the Civil War and a long-time resident of the district in which he had always lived, died at his home in Graffton, near Black Lick, Tuesday evening at 7:40 o'clock. He leaves his widow and three children. During the War of the Rebellion Mr. Cribbs was a member of the Second Heavy Artillery. Funeral services will be conducted in the Coral Lutheran Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be made in the church cemetery.
1974 - BEVERLY ANN CRIBBS SCHRECENGOST, 24, of Kittanning Township, formerly of Leechburg, died unexpectedly Thursday (Dec. 19, 1974) at 10 p.m. in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin Township, after a short illness.
She was born June 14, 1950, in New Kensington to the late Robert C. Cribbs Sr. and Rosalind Bierer Cribbs.
Mrs. Schrecengost was employed as a registered nurse at Armstrong County Hosptial. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Leechburg.
Survivors include her husband, John R. Schrecengost; an infant son, Brett Allan, at home; her mother of Leechburg; a brother, Robert Clark Cribbs Jr. of Leechburg and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Goldie Cribbs of Leechburg.
Friends may call at the J. R. Kennedy Funeral Home, Kittanning, after 7 p.m. today, where a service will be conducted tomorrow (Dec. 22, 1974) at 3 p.m. by her pastor, the Rev. Donald E. Hebrank. Burial will follow in Forks Church Cemetery, Gilpin Township.
1922 - CATHERINE CRIBBS, Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Cribbs, 79, of Black Lick, who died at 8:25 o'clock yesterday morning in Indiana Hospital of complications superinduced by a fracture of the hip, will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Cribbs home. Interment in the Lutheran Chapel Cemetery, Center Township, will be directed by the Robinson Funeral Home, Indiana.
Mrs. Cribbs fractured her hip November 23 when she slipped and fell on the ice in the yard of her Black Lick home. She had since been a hospital patient. Mrs. Cribbs lived in Black Lick for more than 50 years and prior to that time lived in Cokeville and Hillside, both near Blairsville.
Her husband, C. Marion Cribbs, died 12 years ago. Surviving are two children - Ralph H. Cribbs, Black Lick, and Mrs. Charles H. Capen, at home. She also leaved a stepdaughter, Mrs. B. F. Marshall, Freeport, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Rager, Black Lick; Mrs. Emma Fielding, Millvale; and Mrs. Margaret Gore, Homer City.
1927 - PHILANDER ALEXANDER CRIBBS, Mr. Philander Alexander Cribbs, the son of Mr. Daniel and Ami Cribbs, was born June 27, 1836 at Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was the fourth child of a family of nine children, four girls and five boys. He attended school in Tuscaloosa Ala until 14 years of age, then he went with his father and mother and oldest sister to San Francisco California in 1851 during the great gold excitement. After spending two years in California he returned by the way of the Isthmus of Panama, then to New Orleans, La. In this latter place being robbed of his gold, which prevented his further pursuit of an education, he again returns to California for the second time where he remains four years more. After leaving California for the second time he did not attend school again, but was a lover of good books and literature which gave him a practical education.
Later in his travels he met Miss Nancy Gertrude McShan of Utow, Ala., and some time later in November 28, 1860 they were married. To this happy union were born five children, 4 girls and 1 boy (viz) Margaret Ama, Ella Eugenia, Lillian Estelle, Daniel, and Caroline Virginia, all of which are living except Daniel who died at the age of 48.
Bro. Cribbs came to Texas with his family in December 1877 and first settled in Summerville Co., then moved to Young County, where he resided two years, then to Hood County where he lived until he moved to Motley County, arriving in Matador on November 20, 1891 and has resided here with the exception of short winter visits in other states and in parts of Texas, till death came very suddenly on the evening of March 6th [1927] at 7 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas, where spending the winter months in that city. Age 90 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Bro. Cribbs professed hope in Christ at an early age, but did not unite with the church till some time later, when he united with the Free Will Baptist Church and remained in that faith till death. He loved church and was a frequent attendant at the service of the churches in Matador. He was in fairly good health and retained both good hearing and splendid sight, despite the fact that he was past 90 years of age. He was a good neighbor and a splendid citizen, and made hosts of friends wherever he went. He leaves to mourn his death, 4 daughters, Mrs. John Vaughn, Mrs. D. C. Keith, Mrs. E. W. McKenzie all of Matador and Mrs. N. W. Thompson of Brownwood, Texas, and a host of friends, 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Bro. Cribbs was a member of Camp F. B. Maxey, No. 860-U.C.V. He was a member of Company K and also a member 20th Alabama Inf. He was a Second Lieutenant. When this Company was formed there were 23 members just two living now (viz) Bro. S. A. Gerald and C. E. Wideman.
On last year Bro. Cribbs and Bro. Gerald together with Bro. Smallwood decorated these graves with crosses of honor.
He has been a member of I.O.O.E Lodge for 60 years-a member of this lodge for 30 years.
Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist Church Wednesday evening March 9th, Bro. K. F. Keller officiating. Interment was made in the Matador cemetery. (Copied by Joan Keith from an article in the Matador Newspaper, 1927)
1881 - HOYT OTIS CRIBBS, The monster Death has again visited our village and carried away another of our highly esteemed citizens and good men. Mr. H. O. Cribbs died at his home in this place at 9 o'clock on last Sunday night 30th inst., of typhoid pneumonia and phlebitis. A serious complication of diseases from which it is almost impossible to recover. He was buried at LaGrange Cemetery about 4 miles South of Leighton at 4 p.m. Monday, and attended by a large crowd of frends (sic). Services by Rev. Mr. Rippey.
Mr. H. 0. Cribbs was born in Tuskaloosa county where he lived about 23 years including the two years he served in the Confederate Army. He joined the army at the age of 17 and though a mere boy he served gallantly till the conflict was closed. In Oct. 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss H. H. Mitchell and moved immediately with his father-inlaw to Leighton, where he has been since as a quiet, peaceable neighbor and law abiding citizen. He was only about 34 years of age; and prior to his attack (which was only 13 days) was apparently enjoying good health and in the very vigor of manhood. But death is certain, and the mighty, and the young, and the strong, as well as the old, and weak, must succumb, when touched by his chilling hand, and we know not the day nor the hour of his coming.
The bereaved family have the heart felt sympathy of every one; and prayers are being offered for a comforter to console the sorrowing widow, and assist her in taking care of the fatherless little ones left in her charge. She offers her most sincere thanks to the worthy young gentlemen of Leighton who were so kind and generous in rendering their services during the illness of. ... Alice was a charter member of the North OKC Rotary Anns, the Lakeview Country Club, the PDCA Auxiliary, the Western Club, the Tuesday Bridge Club and the Better Breathers. Survivors include her husband, Bill; a daughter, Dianne Baldwin of Cuchara, Co.; a son, Ralph Marc Armstrong, Orlando, Fl.; 3 stepsons, Danny Cribbs of OKC, Carl Cribbs of Jackson, S.C., Michael Cribbs of Chatanooga, Tn.; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. 1994 - MARY ANN CRIBBS, 43, of Moore, passed away Monday, April 18, 1994. She was born Dec. 22, 1950 in Anoka, Minn. to Gerald and Dorothy (Cherest) Anderson. Mary is survived by her husband, Jimmy of the home; 3 stepchildren, Steve Cribbs and wife, Natasha Cribbs, both of Little Rock, Ar., Kelly Cribbs of Del City and Brian Cribbs of the home; 2 brothers, Robert Anderson of Salida, Ca. and Carl Anderson of Harrah; 2 sisters, Sallie Sellers and Carol Brewington, both of Okla. 1995 - DR. DELMAS L. CRIBBS, retired ophthalmologist, died Friday in St. John's Lutheran Care Center in Mars. He was 88. A Verona native, Dr. Cribbs lived in Butler and practiced in Fredericktown, Washington County, and Pittsburgh before opening an office in Butler in 1938. 1994 - ESTHER E. CRIBBS, 94, of Tuscarawas, Ohio, sister of a Dunlap resident, died Friday, July 1, 1994, at Morning View Care Center in New Philadelphia, Ohio, after an extended illness. 1997 - ETTA L. ROBINSON CRIBBS, 78, of 201 Kayler St. Saltsburg (Conemaugh Township), died Friday, Dec, 5, 1997, at the Latrobe Area Hospital, Latrobe. The daughter of Lloyd E. and Leolyn Piper Robinson, she was born June 5, 1919, in Saltsburg. Mrs. Cribbs lived her entire life in Saltsburg. She was a member of the Saltsburg Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two sons, Albert Alan Cribbs, Young Township; Thomas Dwight Shearer, Latrobe; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Shearer, Saltsburg; two brothers, William Robinson, Johnstown; Al Stanley Robinson, Conemaugh Township; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, Albert P. Cribbs, in 1981; and her first husband, Admiral Dwight Shearer, in 1947. Private visitation and funeral services were held today with the Rev. Dr. Tom Jones officiating. Interment was in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. A native of Lufkin, she lived in Beaumont before moving to Winnie 16 years ago. She was a homemaker.
