GREENEVILLE—Vera Easterly Ottinger, age 70, of Slate Creek Road, Greeneville, the Caney Branch Community, passed away Monday evening, April 9, 2001, at Takoma Adventist Hospital.
She was a faithful member of Loves Memorial United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted, and a member of Farm Bureau Women. She was a loving and caring wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone. Her smile will be greatly missed by everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvil Taylor Easterly and Viola Harmon; four brothers, Arvil Easterly, Jr., Robert Easterly, Jack Easterly, and Kenneth Easterly.
She is survived by her husband, Fred, with whom she had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rocky and Helen Ottinger, Danny and Cathy Ottinger, and David and Melissa Ottinger; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Tommy Jennings; five grandchildren, Kym Norton, Andrew Ottinger, Miranda Ottinger, Cody and Hannah Jennings; two step-grandchildren, Cindy Arnold and John Kampmeier; one sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Billy Starnes, of Shelbyville, TN; three sisters-in-law, Blanche Easterly, of Pennsylvania, Betty Easterly, of Alabama, and Irene Easterly, of Ohio. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Loves Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dan Palmer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Kyker, Johnny Tweed, J.T. Clowers, Norman Smith, Jackie Easterly, Jonathan Ottinger, Jimmy Kilgore, and Jimmy Eastely.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of Loves Memorial United Methodist Church.

WHITE PINE—Mary Ruth Ottinger, age 76, of White Pine, passed away on March 8, 2001, at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare, following a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Shelton, and great-grandsons, Brandon Scott Haynes and Riley Dale Smith.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wilma (Shelton) and Jimmy Smith, of White Pine; granddaughter, Tammy (Cyndi) Haynes and husband, Mike Haynes, of White Pine; grandson, Rodney Smith, of Talbott; great-grandson, Justin Haynes, of White Pine; sister, Imogene McCurry, of Newport; brothers, Bruce Gregg, of Newport, Davison Gregg, of Greeneville, and Milburn Gregg, of Rome, Georgia; and several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Paul Jennings and Rev. Randall Frisbee officiating, with burial in Faubian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Junior Dunn, Junior Gregg, Justin Haynes, Charlie Clevenger, David Weatherford, and Lynn Gregg.

Hasa Lee Ottinger
Died: 08/29/2000
Hasa Lee Ottinger, 92, of Johnson City, formerly of Greeneville, died Tuesday morning, August 29, 2000, at the home of her daughter.
She was born May 3, 1908, the youngest child of Waitsul Avery and Celia Sams Hensley. She had four brothers and nine sisters, all of whom are deceased. Mrs. Ottinger is the only one born in Tennessee as all her brothers and sisters were born in Madison County, North Carolina. The Hensley family lived in the “Rabbit Hill” area of Cocke County. She rode horseback or drove a T-Model Ford to attend school at Cedar Creek, St. James, Glenwood and Parrottsville High as well as others.
On May 21, 1927, she and Nolen R. Ottinger of the Long Creek community in Cocke County “slipped off” to Morristown to be married, the same day Charles Lindberg landed in Paris, following his solo flight across the Atlantic. They purchased a farm on Barton Ridge Road in Greeneville in 1928, and her husband died there March 4, 1976.
After being a farm wife for 40 years, Mrs. Ottinger worked for Parks-Belk and the Knox-Williams stores for a number of years. She was a charter member of the Greeneville Home Demonstration Club, now known as Family and Community Education Club and is a former member of the Republican Women’s Club.
She was a member of the North Johnson City Optimist Club and attended Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Johnson City. She had been a member of the Greeneville Reformation Church since the 1930s, and a long-time Sunday school teacher and member of Victoria Circle.
She is survived by a daughter: Berla J. Smith of Johnson City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Nolen and Maryanne Ottinger of Clearwater, Florida, and Jerry and Sherlene Ottinger of Greeneville; seven grandchildren and special spouses, William C. Smith Jr. and Kathy Smith of Gray, Steve R. and Wanda Smith of Charleston, South Carolina, Wendy L. and Greg Bowen and Nolen R. Ottinger III, all of Lakeland, Florida, Douglas A. and Lynnette Ottinger of Albany, Georgia, Nicolas V. Ottinger of Durham, North Carolina, Kelly A. and Mike Hodges of Greenville, South Carolina; and eleven great-grandchildren and a special great-grandson-in-law, Tina R. and Kevin Millsaps of Johnson City, Shannon and Sharron Smith of Charleston, South Carolina, Christina, Paul, Brittnay and Ian Bowen, all of Lakeland, Florida, Kathryn, Christopher, Lauren and Michael Ottinger of Albany, Georgia, and Shannon Smith’s special friend, James Evans of Monk’s Corner, South Carolina.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Roscoe, Ezekiel, Lee and Thomps Hensley; nine sisters, Zetta Tweed, Polly Ayers, Laura Ayers, Emma Ottinger, Nell Nease, Menta Green, Berla Chandley, and Ladusky Hensley; an infant sister; and a son-in-law, William C. Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2000, at Reformation Lutheran Church with interment to follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Pastor J. Howard Mettee and Pastor Jim Nipper will officiate. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes preceding the service.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

J. B. Ottinger

J.B. Ottinger, 74, of 2040 Warrensburg Road, Greeneville, died Wednesday morning, March 22, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
He was retired from auto sales and was an antique dealer. He was widely known in Greene County as a dealer of used cars. Buying and selling antiques was a passion that he enjoyed immensely, making many friends and acquaintances in the process.
He loved the Lord which was reflected in his generosity and in his dealings with family, friends, and business associates. He was a member of First Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil and Gladys Ottinger.
Survivors: wife of 49 years, Jerlee Ottinger; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gayle and Toddy Laws, Connie Gaby, and Rebecca and Bill Cutshaw; brother and sister-in-law, Mack and Margaret Ottinger; sister, Louise Wright; grandchildren, Guss Laws, Joshua Smith, Matthew Smith, Rebekah Smith, Ceth Smith, and Buddy Gaby; great-grandchild, Ashlyn Laws; sister-in-law, Agnes Smith; nieces, Sherry Cobble and Betty Hartman; and nephews, Harold Ottinger, Eddie Ottinger, Jackie Ottinger, Ronnie Morrison, Bucky Wright, and Ralph Smith.

Kathleen Virtue Ottinger

Kathleen Virtue Ottinger, 73, of Newport, died Thursday morning, January 6, in Laughlin Memorial Hospital, Greeneville, following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Ottinger, known as Kathy to her numerous friends, was a native of Lansing, Michigan. She was the daughter of Andrew and Lelah Virtue. It was while attending Michigan State University that she met Charles Ernest (Chuck) Ottinger Jr., who was there in the veterinarian school. They married in 1947 and both graduated afterward.
They were the parents of three children, Kathy Ann, Terri and David.
Dr. Ottinger Þrst practiced in Sevierville but in 1956 moved his practice and his family to Newport. Kathy worked right beside him in his practice, often having the animals right in the kitchen. Dr. Ottinger died in 1965 at the age of 44.
As long as Kathy was in Newport, she was in community activities, starting with the P.T.A. and Band Boosters. In recent years she had been involved with Central Charities, Cancer Society, Bread Basket, Theater Guild, Stokely Memorial Library, Nolichucky Regional Library, Rural Medical Services, and Newport Bridge Club.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer. She was a teacher in the Ladies’ Bible Class, member of the Frankie Russell Circle, treasurer of United Methodist Women, and a member of the Missions Committee.
Following the death of her husband, she worked as the supervisor of Food Services for the Cocke County Schools until her retirement in 1990. In 1974, she was elected president of the Tennessee Food Services Association.
Kathy herself was known as a wonderful cook and she was so generous in sharing her food, particularly bread and chocolate turtles, with her friends, the sick, the elderly. She was always there when her friends needed her.
Surviving are children, Kathy Ann and Ron Cole and David and Kristy Ottinger, Greeneville, and Terri and Ron Parise, SufÞeld, Connecticut; grandchildren, Sarah and Abby Cole and Michael Ottinger, Katie, Joey, Tommy, and Robbie Parise; brother, Archie Virtue, Lansing, Michigan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Coletta Ottinger, St. Petersburg, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 8, at 3 p.m., at First United Methodist Church with Revs. Charles Starks and Riley Huffstetler officiating. Friends will be received before the services and afterwards at a reception in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Johnny Calvin Ottinger

Johnny Calvin Ottinger Jr., 65, of Whitesburg, passed away Thursday, July 29, at his home.
He was a deacon and charter member of Union Grove Baptist Church; retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant; retired from Jefferson City Magnavox; and worked at East Ridge Middle School as a crossing guard.
Mr. Ottinger was preceded in death by his father, Johnny C. Ottinger Sr.; and his brother, Charles Gradin.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Lloyd Ottinger; mother, Mrs. Johnny (Eunivee) Ottinger Sr.; sister, Mrs. Ronnie (Patsy) Rader and her husband, Ronnie, of Greeneville; brother, David Lynn Ottinger and his wife, Shirley, of Greeneville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Ruby Inman of Russellville, Gerry Lloyd of Whitesburg, Don and Dian Lloyd of Russellville, Robert and Wanda Lloyd of Limestone, George H. and Beulah Lloyd of Morristown, and James and Marlene Loyd of Whitesburg; a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

Aldo Ottinger

Aldo Ottinger, 89, of 280 Peanut Rd., Parrottsville, died Sunday morning, April 25, at Takoma Adventist Hospital.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Ottinger had lived all his life in the Long Creek and Salem area of Cocke County. He was a life-long and faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church, serving on the council and on many committees of the church.
He was the son of the late Charles J. and Cordia Ottinger and was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Blanch Ottinger, who died May 28, 1998; brothers, Hobert, Milburn and Noland Ottinger; and three sisters, Virgie Hawk, Rhoda Smelcer and Stella Ottinger.
Survivors: a special nephew and caretaker, Dale LaFollette, who was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Ottinger from an early age; three brothers-in-law, Willis Ottinger and Trent Ottinger, Parrottsville, and John B. Ottinger of Greene Co.; sisters-in-law, Hassie Lee Ottinger, Johnson City, Charlsie Hawk, Johnson City, and Joan Birdwell of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.
The funeral will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kiser Funeral Chapel with Pastor Claude Villemaire officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
It is requested that friends meet at the cemetery for the graveside service on Wednesday morning.

Lynn D. (Red) Ottinger, age 63, of Morristown, died Thursday, March 18, in Jacksonville, Florida as a result of an automobile accident.

Juanita Ottinger

Juanita Ottinger, age 64, of Morristown, died Thursday, March 18, in Jacksonville, Florida as a result of an automobile accident.
She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and retired from B.A.S.F.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Maude Turner and brother, Edgar Turner.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Beth Ottinger, of Morristown; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and J.B. Daniels, of Newport; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Clinton Ray Ottinger
Died: 03/23/1999
Clinton Ray Ottinger was a community person. He was greatly responsible for the location and expansion of the Greene Farmers Co-op of which he served on the Board of Directors for over a decade and represented them nationally. He was elected and served as a Cocke County Road Commissioner.
Clinton attended St. James Lutheran Church all his life. He was a church leader and active in all aspects of the congregational family.
He carried on the family tradition of farming, remaining on his parents farm developing its prosperity through sheep and registered angus cattle. His pole barn was a first in this area.
He truly enjoyed life by participation in the Young at Heart Club, Men’s Breakfast Group, hosting gatherings, traveling and always “eating-out.”
Years and years were spent cultivating vegetable gardens and caring for the beautiful floral beds surrounding his home.
Clinton was the last surviving member of his family line.
He is survived by numerous cousins throughout this area, Evelyn Neas Smith and family, Charlsie Sutherland Neas, Ted Winter, Mary Dee Ottinger, Burl Ottinger and family and many, many more and also his extended family, James and Karin Wildman.
The pallbearers will be James N. Wildman, Pastor Mike Freed, John Brown, Ted Winter, Buddy Brown, Larry Smith, Lowel Neas, and Freddie Soloman.
Honorary pallbearers are The Young At Heart Club & the Men’s Breakfast Group.

Loyd Samuel Ottinger, 60, of Johnson City, died February 23 at the V.A. Hospital in Johnson City.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Ottinger; and a sister, Betty Jo Blazer.

Henry Logan Ottinger

Henry Ottinger, age 89, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001 in Salt Lake City, UT.
Henry was born May 26, 1911 in Lahoma, OK to Alvin C. and Mary Lydia Dittrich Ottinger. On June 11, 1933, he married Maudena D. Plunkett in Ennis, TX. She preceded him in death in 1989. In 1991, he married Mary Elizabeth East Pearson in San Diego, CA. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Henry attended Oklahoma City University, and worked for Jones & Laughlin Steel in their oil well division for over 18 years. In 1946, he moved to Salt Lake City and started the Ottinger Vending Company, which he managed for over 18 years till his retirement. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Salt Lake and the El Kalah Temple of Salt Lake. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #111 in Cushing, OK and the Christ United Methodist Church of Salt Lake City where he was head of the building committee and head usher for several years. Henry loved traveling, golfing, and gardening. His specialties were roses and dahlias. He will be remembered for his great optimism.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Brighton Gardens, the Utah Dialysis Center, the LDS Wound Center, and Community Nursing for their loving care of dad.
Survived by two daughters; Mary Jane (Thomas F.) Cork, Salt Lake and Marcile (Dan) Greaves, Yakima, WA; four grandchildren, Cindy Asher, Park City; Laura (Tom) Ondek, Derby, KS; and Beth and Eric Greaves, Yakima, WA; two great-grandchildren, Casey and Kelsey Ondek, Derby, KS.
Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2001 at the home of Mary Jane Cork, 34 Dorchester Dr., Salt Lake City, UT from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. At his request, he will be cremated. Chester B. Ottinger Jr.
CHESAPEAKE -- Chester B. Ottinger Jr., 68, of the 1000 block of Callaway Ave., went to be with the Lord Aug. 14, 2001. A native of Lynchburg, Va., he was a retired welder with 23 years of service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Chesapeake, and an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Smith Ottinger; two sons, Pastor Michael W. Ottinger of Star Junction, Pa., and Owen L. Ottinger of Fairmount, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Judy Kibler of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a daughter, Gale Kraatz of Cypress, Texas.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Temple Baptist Church Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Allen L. Dooley officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Teresa M. Ottinger
Teresa M. Ottinger, 79, of 19601 Granada Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 7, 1919, in Richmond Hill, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Horan.
She was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Warren E. Ottinger; three sons, Kurt Ottinger of Atlanta, Lee Ottinger of Towson, Md., and Donald Ottinger of Grantsboro, N.C.; two sisters, Marie Byrnes and Rita Cauley, both of Long Island, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate.

Scarsdale, N. Y., Dec. 19 [AP] -- Lawrence Ottinger, 70, founder of the United States Plywood corporation, died today. He was chairman of the board of directors of the firm, which he founded in 1919. Surviving are his widow, the former Louise Lowenstein, of Chicago; a son, Lt. Richard Lawrence Ottinger, U. S. A. F., and a daughter, Patricia.

Alfred A. Ottinger, a salesman for the Philadelphia Gas Works who was both the company's highest commissioned sales representative and its second-oldest active employee, died Tuesday. He was 71 and lived in Elkins Park.
Ottinger joined PGW in April 1954 as an appliance salesman going to customer's homes door-to-door. After the street sales force was disbanded in 1969, he continued in sales at the company's South Philadelphia neighborhood office. During his long career he earned numerous sales awards and established a record for appliance sales by an individual employee.
Known for his gregarious style and wit, Ottinger was born in Bremen, Germany, and came to the United States in 1935. He was a 1939 graduate of Bok Vocational-Technical High School and became a citizen in 1943. Throughout his life he remained deeply devoted to his adopted country, displaying an American flag on his desk and wearing a flag lapel pin.
In 1942 he joined the Army and served with the Engineer Corps in the South Pacific. He earned two battle stars and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. After his discharge he worked as a welder for the Budd Co. and then as a salesman for the K. Cohen & Sons Co. on Passyunk Avenue.
He was active in the PGW employees union as a representative of the marketing department and belonged to the American Legion.
Survivors include a brother, Shlomo Ettinger; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Ottinger; a nephew, Amitzur Ottinger and two nieces, Batsheva Ettinger and Susan Smith.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Goldstein's Funeral Home, 310 Second Street Pike, Southampton.
Burial will be in Montifiore Cemetery, Church Road and Borbeck Avenue, Abington.
THERESA B. (SPINELLI) OTTINGER
THERESA B. (SPINELLI) OTTINGER, 73, of Vineland, died Saturday at Newcomb Medical Center in Vineland.
Prior to retiring in 1985, Mrs. Ottinger for 12 years was a sewing machine operator for the Newell Clothing Company in Vineland.
She also worked for the South Jersey Clothing Company of Minotola and the Tursini Clothing Company of Vineland.
Mrs. Ottinger was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and Sacred Heart Church.
She was born in Hammonton and lived in Vineland all her life.
She is survived by one son, Charles of Vineland; three daughters, Patricia McGinly of Vienna, Va., and Christine Schneider and Frances Friedman, both of Vineland; one brother, Dominick Spinelli of Vineland; three sisters, Mary Curio, Sue Petrosky and Florence Genovese, all of Vineland; and four grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Vineland. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rone Funeral Service, Vineland.

Alfred V. Ottinger
Alfred V., 75, of MWC, passed away Aug. 23, 1989. Born April 28, 1914 in Goltry, Ok. He retired from Tinker AFB as a computer programmer. WWII veteran US Air Force. Came to MWC area in 1957, also lived in Beaver and Stillwater, where he received his Master's Degree at Okla. State University. Received Master's Degree in Math and Science, and Bachelors Degree at Panhandle A&M. Taught school at Turpin, Felt, Balko and Beaver. He was superintendent at Balko and also coached several sports throughout his educational career. Member of the Nicoma Park Masonic Lodge, Master Mason 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of McAlester. Member of St. Matthews Methodist Church and supporter of the Demolay and Job's Daughters. Past Associate Bethel Guardian of Job's Daughters. Survived by his wife, Marjorie; a son, George Ottinger, Ft. Worth, Tx.; 3 daughters, Vicky Johnson, MWC, Linda Belcher, Choctaw and Mabel Fahle, Ft. Ray E. Ottinger Jr.
Ray E. Ottinger Jr., 71, a magazine editor and teacher, died Nov. 10, 1993, in the Presbyterian Manor, Kansas City, Kan., where he lived. Friends may call from noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lake of Forest clubhouse in Bonner Springs. The body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. The family suggests contributions to the Ray Ottinger memorial fund at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Mr. Ottinger was managing editor of Veterinary Medicine magazine for 23 years, retiring in 1986. He was an assistant professor of art at the University of Kansas from 1947 to 1953. He graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute, where he was senior class president and a Vanderslice scholarship student. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was born in St. Joseph and lived in this area most of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Kennedy Ottinger of the home; a son, Gregg D. Ottinger, Takoma Park, Md.; two daughters, Amy Walters, Bonner Springs, and Ann Smith, England; a sister, Cherrilea Watson, St. Louis; and five grandchildren.
Robert Ottinger, chef, deacon; 51
Robert W. Ottinger, 51, of 79 North Silver Lane, a 19-year chef at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, died Friday at home.
Born in Greenfield, he attended Sunderland schools and was a 1959 graduate of Frontier Regional High School.
An Air Force veteran, he served with the 818th Combat Defense Squadron.
A member of the Sunderland Congregational Church, he served as its trustee and deacon.
He was a member and past master of the Sunderland Grange, and a member of the Polish American Citizens Club of South Deerfield. He enjoyed landscape gardening.
He leaves his father, Frank of Keystone Heights, Fla.; a twin brother, William F. of Danville, Vt., and a sister, Evelyn J. Grigonis of Sunderland.
The funeral will be this morning at Sunderland Congregational Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
