James Hollingsworth Sr.
ZEBULON - James Edward “Ed” Hollingsworth Sr., 88, born Dec. 6, 1919, died Jan. 3, 2008. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer prior to and during World War II. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 34 years service as a civil service employee. Mr. Hollingsworth also worked 10 years after retirement with Purolator as a courier service.
He was born in Wayne County, son of the late Adrian Lawrence Hollingsworth and Sally Howell Hollingsworth and was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Lawrence Hollingsworth.
Mr. Hollingsworth and his wife Priscilla have lived in Zebulon, N.C., since 1982. He was loved by all and was a true southern gentleman and a true patriot to his country.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Wakefield Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Zebulon Cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Priscilla Mitchell Hollingsworth; their children, James E. Hollingsworth Jr. and wife Sandra V. of West Jefferson, Barbara H. Elliott and husband Tommy and Debra Meeks and husband Phil both of Chesapeake; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Flowers accepted or memorial may be made to Wakefield Central Baptist Church, 308 Proctor St., Zebulon, NC 27597.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. today in the Fellowship Hall of Wakefield Central Baptist Church prior to the service. Arrangements by Strickland Funeral Home, Wendell.
