Cyrus Brinkley Jr.

NORFOLK - Cyrus Brinkley Jr., 82, passed away Jan. 6, 2008, in his home. Born in Suffolk, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Mary Brinkley. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a part of the Normandy landing. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorraine B. Erwin.

Cyrus leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Garlon Brinkley; his son, Cyrus Brinkley III and his wife Deborah of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Grady Baker Erwin, Heather Erwin Dorris, Sarah Anne Brinkley and Catlin Melissa Brinkley; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Allen Dorris and Dominic Michael Dorris; two sisters, Julianne Cooper of New Jersey and Ada Heffington of Suffolk; and his brother-in-law, Jesse Lee Erwin.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach with the Rev. Dick Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Home and/or the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
