Karen VanNornam
Karen Lynn VanNornam, 45, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 24, 1952, in South Gate, Calif., to Michael P. and Exie Kathryn (Griggs) Schellin.
She moved to Chino Valley from Newberry Springs, Calif., in 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include stepsons, Dale of Barstow, Calif., and David of Chino Valley; stepdaughter, Dawn Haberman of Green River, Wyo.; and four grandchildren.
Private interment was at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

Michael Sherban
Michael Sherban, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at a nursing home in Prescott Valley.
He was born Sept. 25, 1906, in McKeesport, Pa.
Mr. Sherban was retired from Westinghouse Electric Company. He moved to Prescott from Roseville, Mich., in 1979. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Prescott.
Survivors include his son, Mitchell of Prescott; daughters, Sylvia Tilson of Prescott, and Ann Marie Myners of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Redwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dewey, with the Rev. Gerald Yaeger officiating.

James Yerian
James E. Yerian, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at the Prescott Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was born May 24, 1926, in Springfield, Ohio, to Maurice and Anita (Bogard) Yerian.
He was a machinist for Rohr Aircraft in California before retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Yerian married Janice Walker on March 20, 1983, in San Diego, Calif. They moved to Wilhoit three and a half years ago from California.
Survivors include his wife, Janice of Wilhoit; stepsons, Robert McCollum of Blythe, Calif., and Craigory Jones of Wilhoit; stepdaughter, Doretta McCollum of Humboldt; and four grandchildren.
Private family services were held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Verna Kreft
Verna Pearl Kreft, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Promise Land Adult Care Center in Prescott Valley.
She was born June 30, 1910, in Eden Township, Brown County, near Morgan, Minn., to Julius and Ida (Pretzer) Marotzke.
Mrs. Kreft was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. As a small child, the family moved to the Vesta area, where she attended country school.
She married Leo Kreft on Sept. 1, 1931, at St. John's Lutheran Parsonage in Vesta. The couple settled in Echo Township for a short while, then moved to the Vesta area in Underwood Township, where they farmed until 1975. After retirement, the couple continued to live on the farm until 1987, when they moved to Redwood Falls, Minn. In August 1994, she moved to Prescott Valley, where she has lived since.
Survivors include her son, Floyd of Mayer; daughters, Darlene Kuehn of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Pearl Anderson of Belview; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; brother; sister; grandson, and great-grandson.
Funeral services and burial were held in Minnesota.

Glenn McDonald
Glenn E. McDonald, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at the Prescott Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was born March 12, 1920, in Northwood, Iowa, to Alfred J. and Clara Mae (Rogers) McDonald.
Mr. McDonald moved to Phoenix from California in 1980, and to Chino Valley in 1987. He also lived in Camp Verde in recent years. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He enjoyed baseball and being out of doors.
Survivors include daughters, Sandy Hodson of Glendale and Bobbie Merchant of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Private cremation will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

Santos Barajas
Santos Barajas, 69, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at his home in Prescott.
He was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Putney, Ariz., to Jose and Natalia (Silva) Barajas.
Mr. Barajas was a supervisor for the Cyprus Bagdad Mine for many years. He was also a volunteer for the fire department in Bagdad.
Survivors include his wife, Viola; daughters, Dolores Perkins of Bagdad, Emma Sanders of Prescott Valley, Mariva Barajas of El Paso, Texas, and Felice Neely of San Diego, Calif.; sons, Bobby of Prescott and Thomas of Tucson; brothers, Nolberto and Frank of Mesa, and Robert Avalos of Phoenix.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel, 131 Grove Ave.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, with Father Martin Rock, S.J., officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery on Willow Creek Road.
