Fred Hunt
Fred James Hunt, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, in Prescott Valley.
He was born Aug. 31, 1912, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Frederick W. and Laura (Locke) Hunt.
Mr. Hunt owned and operated the Pioneer Shades in San Francisco, Calif., and moved from Pacifica, Calif., to Prescott in 1980. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharlene Fowler of Prescott; stepdaughter, Margaret Godsil of Prescott; sister, Dorothy Hodges of San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum in Dewey, with the Rev. Ray Roller officiating.

Ernest Leyva
Ernest Leyva, 60, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Elko General Hospital in Elko, Nev.
He was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Prescott, to Manuel and Aurora (Garcia) Leyva. He moved to Elko, Nev., from Arizona in 1995.
He was employed by Barrick Muikle Mine as an underground mine supervisor, and had worked as an underground miner for more than 30 years. Before that he had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Mr. Leyva was a Prescott High School graduate. He was a veteran of the United States Marines and the Navy. He enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, coaching and pitching softball in Arizona and Elko. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
Survivors include his wife, Rita; son, Marcus Goodson of Tokyo, Japan; daughters, Sandra Chavez and Grace Davis, both of Phoenix, and Gina Hash and Jackie Leyva, both of Elko, Nev.; brothers, Manuel of Prescott Valley, Bobby of Corona, Calif., and Rudy of Prescott; mother, Aurora of Prescott; sister, Francis Flores of Fairfield, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel, and sisters, Ventura Flores and Carmen Leyva.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home at Cortez and Carleton streets, with the Rev. Richard Farrell, C.M.F., officiating.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury St., with the Rev. Fred LeClaire, C.M.F., presiding.
Final commendation and a farewell service will be at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road.

Angell Meyer
Angell Meyer, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Prescott Samaritan Village.
He was born Dec. 14, 1910, in Springfield, Ore., to Lillian Gunderson. He moved to Phoenix from Alexandria, Va., in March 1972, and to Prescott in 1987.
Mr. Meyer was employed by the Hecht Company for many years as an electronics technician. He served in the United States Navy.
He drove a cab in Washington, D.C., for 20 years, and later trained on his own to become a television and electronics technician. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing and raising tropical fish. He would spend countless hours tinkering with electronics or reading anything about animals or electronics.
Mr. Meyer enjoyed traveling and being with friends. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Survivors include his son, Walter, and daughter, Carol MacMillan, both of Prescott.
Private family services were held.

Robert Westlund
Robert E. Westlund, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at his home in Dewey.
He was born July 26, 1913, in Omaha, Neb. He married Christine Whittington on April 4, 1943.
Mr. Westlund was a teacher of desert survival and hunter's safety courses in the Scottsdale Boys Club for 14 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his son, James of Dewey; daughters, Linda Westlund of Dewey and Patricia McCrea of St. Johns; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, on Nov. 11, 1991.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St.
Private cremation will be at a later date.

Gordon Grass
Gordon Franklin Grass, 62, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at the Prescott Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Oakland, Calif., to Fredrick A. and Kathleen H. (Hurst) Grass. He moved to Prescott from California in 1983.
Mr. Grass was employed by Copier Express as a copier technician. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring in March 1971. He was a musician who enjoyed playing the keyboard at the Prescott Senior Center, where he will be remembered for the many hours of pleasure he gave through his music.
He spent many relaxing hours oil and watercolor painting, and produced many fine pen and ink drawings. He will be dearly missed by his family and close friends.
Survivors include his sons, John of Huntington Beach, Calif., Todd of Sacramento, Calif., and Scott, also of California; brothers, Fred and Al, both of California; sisters, Betty Dilts and Kathleen Storey, both of California; and three grandchildren.
A graveside memorial with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, with the Rev. Donald Munson officiating.

David Siebenman
David Robert Siebenman, 66, a Prescott resident, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997.
He was born Jan. 5, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Siebenman was a teacher in the Phoenix Elementary School District #1 and at Grand Canyon University until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his daughters, JeanMarie Hallahan, Mary Ann Garrity and Joann Gaona; sisters, Marie Siebenman, Margaret Pruitt and Janet Siebenman; and 11 grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave.

William Gates Jr.
William "Herb" Gates Jr., 45, a former Mayer resident, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, in San Marcos, Calif.
He was born Jan. 30, 1952, in Phoenix. He was a horse trainer and a member of the FFA and the thoroughbred club. He graduated from Tempe High School in 1970, and resided in both San Marcos, Calif., and Mayer.
Survivors include his companion, Janet Rogers; daughter, Christine Follette; parents, William and Phyllis Gates; and sisters, Linda Gates, Karen Williams, and Pamela Zawacky.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at Carr Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Road, Tempe. Services will follow.
