Larry Savage
Larry H. Savage, 76, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at the Prescott Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was born June 2, 1923, in Dayton, Ky., to S.L. and Grace (Baker) Savage.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1986 from Honeywell as a computer programmer.
He and his family moved to Phoenix from St. Paul, Minn., in 1958 and to Prescott upon his retirement.
Mr. Savage was active in the Frontier Civitan Club and proud of helping build Camp Civitan in Williams. He was also a member of the Republican Party and the Arizona Foundation for the Handicapped. He enjoyed watching Cubs baseball games.
Survivors include his wife, Ethelyn, whom he married Aug. 7, 1943; sons, John H. of Phoenix, and Gary of Glendale; daughters, Laura S. of Midland, Texas, and Cynthia D. of Phoenix; and one grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 945 Rancho Vista Dr., Prescott.

Elmo Smith
Elmo Smith, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, in Prescott Valley.
Mr. Smith was born March 8, 1919, in Oden Ark., to Byrd T. and Lillie (Suggs) Smith.
He married Ruth Richmond Aug. 31, 1940. He moved with his family to Globe in 1923.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife moved to Cottonwood in 1984 and to Prescott Valley in 1991. He worked for Arizona Public Service for 20 years as an electrician, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed being with his friends and a good game of dominoes. He was a member of American Legion Post 108.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Prescott Valley; sons, William of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Clyde of Prescott Valley; and two grandchildren.
Cremation was private at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Southern Baptist Church of Prescott Valley, corner of Highway 69 frontage road and Pleasant View Drive.

David Scherer
David John Scherer, 85, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, in Dewey.
He was born Jan. 18, 1914, in Bellwood, Ill., to Conrad and Olinda (Merkel) Scherer.
Mr. Scherer married Rita Thompson Nov. 7, 1936, in Bellwood, Ill. He worked as an iron worker in construction for 25 years, before moving to Dewey in 1980 from Wheaton, Ill.
He served in the Illinois National Guard, and was a member of the Moose Lodge #319 in Prescott.
Mr. Scherer enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and was a master gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; sons, David of Cape Coral, Fla., Albert of Chino Valley, and Peter of Elgin, Ill.; daughters, Judie Brooks of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Linda Kalous of Chandler; sister, Marie Fredricks of Pittsburgh, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and Richard.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunrise Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunrise Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Autera officiating.
Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Gardens.

Donald Anderson
Donald Taylor Anderson, 57, of Prescott, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, in an equestrian accident near Sonoita.
He was born Nov. 30, 1941, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Elmer and Dorothy (Taylor) Anderson.
Mr. Anderson spent most of his adult life in Arizona and Montana, where he enjoyed his love of animals, particularly horses.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Prescott; stepson, Toby Peterson; brother, Fred, of La Canada, Calif.; parents, Elmer and Dorothy Anderson of Dearborn, Mich.; and three grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Hampton Funeral Home, 240 A. Cortez St., with the Rev. Ray Roller officiating.

Joseph Hanlon
Joseph Johnston Hanlon, 71, of Dewey, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, in Prescott.
He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in New Haven, Conn., to William and Theresa (Johnston) Hanlon. He was a graduate of Fairfield Prep of Fairfield, Conn.
Mr. Hanlon served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a senior real estate appraiser with Equitable Life Insurance Co. U.S. for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Valentine Hanlon; and a sister, Francis Jarboe.
Mr. Hanlon was preceded in death by his son, Peter, and his brother, William Hanlon Jr.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley, with Father John Officiating.

Ellen MacEndree
Ellen Sophia MacEndree, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, in Prescott Valley.
She was born Sept. 19, 1903, in Duquette, Minn., to Gustav and Olivia Peterson.
Mrs. MacEndree worked 10 years as an operator for the American Telephone and Telegraph Company in Duluth and Chicago. While employed there, she alerted medical help to an address and was credited with saving the life of a child who had swallowed a safety pin.
She had lived in Arizona 32 years. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, drawing and traveling.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Thomasson of Prescott and Marilyn Mishcka O'Connor of Tucson; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, in 1978.

Winnifred Grasselli
Winnifred G. Grasselli, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix.
She was born April 23, 1918, in Racine, Wis., to Edward and Winifred (Rickert) Barth.
Mrs. Grasselli came to Arizona in 1948 and to Prescott in 1969. She had been a member of the Pink Ladies at Yavapai Regional Medical Center and had worked at the Las Fuentes Care Center and Peppertree Square, both in Prescott.
Mrs. Grasselli enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, Harry Grasselli, preceded her in death in 1982.
Survivors include her daughters, Jacqueline Weedon of Prescott and Sarah Staley of Wilhoit; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.

Henry Williams
Henry B. Williams, 93, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at the Prescott Samaritan Village.
He was born April 26, 1906, in Easton, Pa., to Ernest P. and Helen (Barker) Williams.
Mr. Williams moved to Prescott from Phoenix 32 years ago.
Mr. Williams was an early graduate of the Cornell University hotel administration program. He then managed the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, the Boca Raton Hotel in Florida and the Commodore Perry in Toledo. He was president and general manager of the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, from which he retired in 1967.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Prescott; sons, Alden of Boston and Stuart of Anchorage; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private services were held.
