Jess Waldo
Jess "Bill" Waldo, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1913, in Oberlin, Kan., to Orley and Emma (Kleyhauer) Waldo.
Mr. Waldo served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the 511th Regiment of the 11th Airborne, receiving the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, with three bronze stars, and a Purple Heart. He was unit commander of the 46th Engineer Division at Fort Campbell, Ky. He retired in 1963 and moved to Prescott
Mr. Waldo was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the First Congregational Church. He loved to travel with his wife Dolores in their RV. He was an avid reader of history and a wonderful neighbor and friend. He was much loved and will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dolores; sons, Bill of Haines, Alaska, and Ben of Montana; daughter, Kay Carson of Soldotna, Alaska; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert O. Bradstreet and the Honor Detail from American Legion Post #6 officiating.
Concluding services will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

Dencil Stout
Dencil Eileen Stout, 80, a Prescott resident, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998.
She was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Branch County, Mich., to Guy and Armenta (Bennett) Coplin.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice White; sons, Jim and Richard; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave., in Glendale.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Chimes.

Syrella Airaksinen
Syrella Marion Airaksinen, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Prescott.
She was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Floodwood, Minn., to Sam and Imba Mickelson Nytroen. She moved to Prescott from Camino, Calif., in 1987.
She was employed by several retail firms as retail sales manager.
Mrs. Airaksinen was a member of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church of Prescott. She enjoyed sewing and sewed all the ladies' costumes for a production of "Henry VIII." She also enjoyed theater arts and was a fine actress. In the Rodeo Days parade, she danced with the Senior Steppers; she was good at tap dancing and clogging.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Will; sons, Gary of Placerville, Calif., and Jon of Prescott; sister, Esther Becker of Paradise, Calif.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at American Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, with the Rev. Wallace B. Cole officiating.
Private inurnment will be in Floodwood, Minn.

Dorothy Goodwin
Dorothy Lee Goodwin, 75, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Meadow Park Care Center.
She was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Clayton, N.M., to Lonnie and Pearl (Sartain) Clark. She moved to Ash Fork from Henderson, Nev., and to Chino Valley in 1945.
Mrs. Goodwin was employed by Chino Valley Schools as a cook for four years.
She enjoyed cooking, fishing, traveling, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. She was proudest of her husband and children.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Donald; sons, Lloyd Chandler of Mesa, Floyd Chandler of Bagdad, Cecil Chandler of Scottsdale and David Goodwin of Safford; brothers, Tommy Clark of Yuma and Jerry Clark of Porterville, Calif.; sisters, Ruth Engleman of Staton, Ore., June Wilholt of Challenge, Calif., and Barbara Brink of Redmond, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Betty Ramuz
Betty B. Ramuz, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at her home in Prescott Valley.
She was born March 29, 1925, in Cottonwood, to Fernand "Vernie" C. and Gertrude (Starkey) Ramuz.
She graduated from Prescott High School and was a member of the 50-year club.
She was a registered nurse for a behavioral care hospital in California, and retired as a home health care nurse for Samaritan Care Companions in Prescott. She was a member of Valley Christian Center in Prescott Valley, St. Jude's Society and a former member of American Legion Post #6.
Ms. Ramuz enjoyed listening to music, reading poetry, doing needlework and bowling.
Survivors include cousins, Barbara Killian, Harvey Sanders, Eleanor Hill and Irene Carriger, all of California, Laurene Hodge of Kentucky, and Charley Sanders of Sequim, Wash.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road, with the Rev. Everett Thomas officiating.

Marjorie Jerome
Marjorie Dale Jerome, 68, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in St. Cloud, Minn.
She was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Lancaster, Minn., to Emil and Minnie Wistrand. She spent her childhood and attended school in Hallock, Minn., where she remained from 1947 to 1984.
She married Claire Willard Jerome April 27, 1946, in Detroit, Mich. They lived in Hallock, Minn., until 1984, when they moved to Prescott Country Club in Dewey.
Mrs. Jerome and her husband traveled extensively, with many different RV units. She was very active in Civil Defense, American Red Cross, and served as an elected official on the Slayton City Council. She taught first aid for many years. She also served as a director on the Sister City-Prescott, Arizona-Caborca, Mexico organization, director of the Property Owners' Association in Prescott Country Club, member of St. Germaine Ladies' Guild, Senior Friends Together, American Legion Auxiliary, Mi Casa Homemakers, and the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include daughters, Lynda Guenther and Janell Johnson; son, Rick; sisters, Jean Ingeman, Betty Parish and Shirley Durkin; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on March 6, 1996.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Gardens in Dewey.

Edna Langdell
Edna C. Langdell, 87, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at the Meadow Park Care Center. She had been a Prescott resident for the past 39 years.
She was born July 18, 1910, in Van Buren, Maine, to George Carr and Anne (Michaud) Carr.
Mrs. Langdell was a member of First Lutheran Church in Prescott. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very good seamstress and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Theron of Prescott; sons, Byron of Prescott, Alan of Paulden, and Darcy of Mesa; brother, Gordon Carr of Bar Harbor, Maine; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation and luncheon/reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church, 231 Smoketree Lane. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Thomas Rothe officiating.

Willie Hornsby
Willie Dale Hornsby, 61, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at the Bagdad Community Health Center.
He was born March 26, 1936, in Hale Center, Texas, to Joseph and Minnie Belle (Ezell) Hornsby. He had been a resident of Bagdad for the past 34 years.
Mr. Hornsby married Constance Rendelman on Feb. 10, 1956, in Sudan, Texas.
He was employed by Cyprus Bagdad Mining Co. from August 1964 to October 1993, when he retired. He was a pit truck driver.
He enjoyed playing guitar and collecting smoking pipes.
Survivors include his wife, Constance of Bagdad; son, Calvin of Cripple Creek, Colo.; daughter, Darlene Thon of Bagdad; brother, I.D. Hornsby of Lubbock, Texas; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Christian Life Assembly Church, #1 Palm Lane in Bagdad, with the Rev. Frank Goodale officiating.
