The Rev. Merle 'PeeWee' Heatwole
The Rev. Merle Eugene "PeeWee" Heatwole, 92, of Prescott, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in Prescott.
He was born June 20, 1907, in Uniontown, Pa., to Frank and Josephine Heatwole.
The Rev. Heatwole moved to Glendale with his family in 1912. He married Iola Brown in 1927. They moved to Skull Valley in 1945, where they farmed for two years.
In 1948 the Rev. Heatwole began a Frito distributorship known as "PeeWee Distributing Company," which he operated until his retirement, at which time he turned the company over to his son, Tom.
He founded the Skull Valley Community Church and was its pastor for 32 years. The Rev. Heatwole served on the board that built the Yavapai Regional Medical Center, was man of the year in 1965, and received the Salvation Army "Other" award.
In 1953 he organized the Skull Valley Skunks softball team that played together for 15 years. In 1977 he was elected to the Arizona Softball Hall of Fame.
The Rev. Heatwole loved the old hymns and conducted old-fashioned hymn sings in many states in addition to a monthly "Hymn Sing in the Park" held on the downtown courthouse plaza during the 1970s. His greatest joys were sharing his Christian faith and enjoying his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Merlene Neil of Prescott; sons, Tommy of Prescott and Dwane of Page; brother, Don of Glendale; sister, Helene Heitmeyer of Mesa; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Iola, in 1997.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Samaritan Village Chapel, Prescott.

John Duane Walker
John Duane Walker, 67, of Chino Valley, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at a Prescott care center.
He was born March 12, 1932, in Belle Fourche, S.D., to Newman D. and Zeta (Smith) Walker.
Mr. Walker had lived in Arizona for the past 54 years and in the Prescott area for 21 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a carpenter, and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and sports, but most of all, his family.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Onita, of Chino Valley; daughters, Karen Walker of Gilbert and Kathryn Crew of Chino Valley; step-sister, Shirley Miller of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott, with Dr. B. Edwin McDonald officiating.

Helen Agnes Fuller
Helen Agnes Fuller, 84, of Prescott, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in Prescott.
She was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Alexandria, S.D., to John and Catherine (Majerus) Michels.
Mrs. Fuller was a retired public health nurse. She was proudest of her faith, and was active as a Eucharistic minister in the Catholic church. She sang in the New Life choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belonged to the Legion of Mary.
She enjoyed making afghans, pottery, rosaries, and stuffed animals and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Fuller is survived by her daughters, June Almond of Maryville, Tenn., and Mary Schroder of Kingman; sons, James of Taylors, S.C., Michael of Tumwater, Wash., John of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Peter of Prescott; brother, Leonard Michels of Wasilla, Alaska; sisters, Armella Michels of Saint Francis, Wis., and Agatha Kayser of Alexandria, S.D.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prescott. Concluding services will be on Saturday at Saint Martens Cemetery in Huron, S.D.

Freda Clough
Freda Clough, 63, of Mayer, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Prescott Valley.
She was born May 30, 1936, in Missouri, to Aruther and Roxie Collins.
Mrs. Clough married Elwin Clough on Aug. 1, 1958, in Nebraska. They moved to Phoenix 39 years ago from Nebraska.
She worked as an assembler at Honeywell in Phoenix for many years, retiring in 1991. The Cloughs moved to Mayer in 1993.
Mrs. Clough's survivors include her husband, Elwin; daughter, Pamela Rogers of Cave Creek; brothers, Herold Collins of Missouri and Howard Collins of Seymore, Mo.; sisters, Josie White of Eldorado, Kan., and Fern Ledbetter and Wilma Cloud, both of Missouri; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cactus Shadows Baptist Church, 5381 Yolantha, Phoenix, with funeral services following at the church at noon. The Rev. Bob Neeley will officiate.

William J. Gregory Jr.
William J. Gregory Jr., 44, of Prescott, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Prescott Valley.
He was born Dec. 8, 1955, in Bossier City, La., to William and Norma Jean (Roberts) Gregory.
Mr. Gregory was a loving father, son, brother and friend.
Surviving are his daughters, Isis and Amber; brothers, Ken, Calvin and Gene; sisters, Tammy, Vonna and Mary; and his mother.
A memorial service will be at a later date.

Peter J. Harings Jr.
Peter J. Harings, Jr., 79, of Prescott Valley, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Prescott Valley.
He was born June 17, 1920, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to Peter and Louise (Larson) Harings.
Mr. Harings joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and became a second lieutenant in 1942 when the 510th fighter squadron, 405th Fighter bomber group, formed. He served at Walterboro, S.C., as an intelligence officer, and served in the European Theater when the 510th transferred to England early in 1944.
He married Anita Ann Bylander on Jan. 22, 1944.
After his discharge in 1945, Mr. Harings joined the Air Force Reserves. In 1946 he went back on active duty, where as a captain he was an instructor for three years at the U.S. Air Force Intelligence School. After a tour of duty in Tokyo, Japan, he completed active duty in 1950.
Mr. Harings graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a bachelor of science degree in 1952 and a master of science degree in geography in 1953. He worked as a cartographer for Johnson Printing Co. in Eau Claire, Wis., and as a sales representative at Winnebago Corp. in Menasha, Wis., prior to his retirement in 1987.
He was discharged from the Air Force Reserves in 1966 as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of Lions International and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Harings' survivors include his wife, Anita; sons, Peter III of Winslow, Michael of Middletown, Calif,. and John of Tucson; sisters, Helen Storm of Eau Claire, Wis., Lucille Prueher of Kremmling, Colo., and Catherine Nelson of Freedom, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Prescott, with the Rev. Paul Crowell officiating. Inurnment will be later at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

Audrey Rose Cashman
Audrey Rose Cashman, 71, of Prescott, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 16, 1928, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Charles Knudsen and Dorothy Ada (Burness) Ross.
Mrs. Cashman married her husband, Edmund, on Oct. 29, 1960. She moved to Flagstaff from Sherman Oaks, Calif., in 1971, and to Yavapai County in 1979.
She worked as a supervisor for Allied Signal for 20 years, retiring in 1996. She was proudest of her family and their accomplishments.
Mrs. Cashman's survivors include her daughters, Patricia Ferry of Bellevue, Wash., Carrie Cashman of Prescott and Tami Vaughn of Myrtle Point, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
Her husband, Edmund, died in 1994.
Private cremation was at Bradshaw Crematory, Prescott Valley. A rosary recitation will be at 7 p.m. today at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St., Prescott.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be with her husband at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix.
