Charles Mahoney
Charles A. Mahoney, a machinist, 57, of Prescott Valley, died Saturday, October 4, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. He was born September 1, 1940, in Auburn, New York, to Arthur and Freida (Gaston) Mahoney. He moved to Prescott Valley from his native New York 22 years ago.
Mr. Mahoney was a machinist and a member of the Free Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lana; daughters, Tammy Stewart of Springwater, New York, Terrie Mahoney and Tina Mahoney, both of Mendon, New York, Connie Kesel of Hemlock, New York, Beth Mahoney with the U.S. military in South Dakota, and Linda Mahoney of Prescott Valley; sons, Patrick of Lyons, New York, and Charles B. of Prescott; parents, Arthur of Seneca Falls, New York, and Frieda Mahoney of Globe; several brothers and sisters and 11 grandchildren.
Services were held at Prescott Free Methodist Church.

Agnes Canny-Pavlick
Agnes (Werner) Canny-Pavlick, a ballroom dancer and hobbyist, 70, of Prescott Valley, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, September 23, 1997, at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center, of complications following surgery to remove a lung due to cancer. She was born November 13, 1926, in Meyer, Iowa, to John and Julia (Hemann) Werner.
She attended school in Meyer, Dubuque and Osage, Iowa. She had been employed at Procter & Gamble, and was the office manager for Calada Materials and Port Welding, all in the Long Beach area.
Mrs. Canny-Pavlick moved to Prescott Valley in 1990 from Long Beach, California.
She was a member of the St. Germaine Catholic Church, in Prescott Valley, and also was active at the senior citizens dances there. Her hobbies included ballroom dancing, traveling - especially to Telluride, Colorado, camping and walking in nature.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Mahoney; and grandson, Jim Mahoney, both of Telluride; a brother and three sisters in the Austin, Minnesota and Osage, Iowa areas; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands, Jake Canny and Chuck Pavlick; son, David; brothers, John, Joseph and Donald Werner; and her parents, John and Julia Werner.
Services were held at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota, on Sunday, September 28, 1997.
Milton Pederson
Milton G. Pederson, a former typographer, 73, died September 29, 1997, at his home in Prescott Valley. He was born April 21, 1924, in Elgin, Illinois, to Ole and Alma (Skibely) Pederson.
Mr. Pederson moved to Prescott Valley from Phoenix in 1989. He was employed by Phoenix Newspapers, Inc., for 29 years, as a typographer, until retiring in 1989.
Survivors include sons, Timothy, John E., Joseph, and Charles, all of Scottsdale, and Andrew, of Phoenix; daughters, Mary Ann Scott, Willow Pederson, Georgia Pederson, Alice Pederson, all of Phoenix, and Robin Pederson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and five grandchildren.
A private cremation was held at Mountain View Cemetery, in Prescott.

Sam Franks
Sam W. Franks, a retired welder, 78, died Wednesday, October 1, 1997, in Payson. He was born December 13, 1918, in Cooter, Missouri, to Samuel and Maggie (Creech) Franks.
Mr. Franks moved to Prescott Valley from Summer, Washington, in 1984. He worked for 40 years as a welder, retiring in 1982 from Snyder & Simson. Sam enjoyed a good round of golf. The warmth of the sunshine that only Arizona can produce. He liked to travel and share times with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Janet; sons, Larry, of Everett, Washington, and Will, of Auburn, Washington; daughters, Janet Lanka, of Everett, Washington, and Joyce Waltman, of Auburn, Washington; stepson, Steven M. Swingley, of Prescott Valley; sister, Alvern Snelson, of Rio Linda, California; brothers, Hestel and Doyle Franks, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private cremation with inurnment was held at Redwood Memorial Gardens, in Dewey.

Harvey Peninger
Harvey N. Peninger, 88, a former concrete product company owner who helped incorporate Prescott Valley, died Monday, October 6, 1997, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1908, in Greene County, Iowa, to Nathaniel and Carrie (Smith) Peninger.
Mr. Peninger owned and operated the Mid Iowa Concrete Product Company for many years, in Iowa, before he retired in 1973. He married Marjorie (Marker), April 1, 1932, in Galena, Iowa. They moved to Prescott Valley from Jefferson, Iowa in 1973. He was involved in the incorporation of Prescott Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Prescott Valley; daughters, Carole Fisher of Prescott Valley, Carrie Feind of Green Valley, Arizona, and Mary Droel of Humboldt; brother, Earl Peninger of Grand Junction, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. His son, Dale, preceded him in death in 1970.
Memorial services were held at Sunrise Funeral Home, with Dr. Michael Moxness officiating.

Eliza Garcia
Eliza A. Garcia, 83, a gardener and seamstress, died Saturday, October 11, 1997, at Las Fuentes Care Center. She was born January 17, 1914, in Mesilla, New Mexico, to Miguel and Elena (Almendaries) Apodaca.
Eliza was a member of St. Germaine's Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in the garden and sewing. She always participated in her church's activities. She was proudest of her son Robert and daughter Sylvia, grandchildren, her great-grandson and the second great-grandson expected. Mrs. Garcia moved to the Prescott Country Club from Whittier, California in 1995.
Survivors include: a daughter, Sylvia G. Kessick, of Dewey; a sister, Ester Tellez, of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Eliza was preceded in death by her son, Robert.
A funeral mass was held at St. Germaine's Catholic Church, with Rev. Gerald Yaeger officiating.
Final Commendation and Farewell was held at Redwood Memorial Gardens in Dewey.

Charles Saunders
Charles T. Saunders, 78, died Thursday, October 30, 1997, in Prescott Valley. He was born September 28, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York, to Norman and Marguerite (Oelze) Saunders.
He married Jeannette Johnson on June 5, 1942, in Queens, N.Y. They moved to Dewey in 1987 from Amityville, N.Y.
Mr. Saunders devoted more than four decades to the aircraft industry. He performed admirably during his 17 years with Grumman Aerospace Corporation with a top-secret clearance, earning many awards for his suggestions to improve flight safety and cost savings to hydraulic systems and to correct problems. This included a Citation for Excellence, as well as many Project Sterling Awards and the Apollo Achievement Award by NASA.
Mr. Saunders served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and received a diploma as an airplane engine maintenance man during his military service. Just before the war, he worked for Ranger Aircraft Corp. as an inspector on Ranger engines.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannette of Dewey; daughter, Margie Wilson of Belmont, California; and two grandchildren. His son, Richard, preceded him in death in 1980.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

Anita Kley
Anita M. Kley, 72, died Tuesday, November 11, 1997, at her residence in Dewey. She was born January 23, 1925, in Bedford, Iowa. She moved from Iowa to California as an infant.
Mrs. Kley married Robert Louis Kley on December 6, 1946, in Santa Monica, California, where they worshipped as members at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Anita was especially dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren. She also loved and appreciated her many friends throughout California and Arizona. She patterned her life by the following saying: "Most of us will never do great things, but we can do small things in a great way." This was exhibited throughout her life. During her 20 years at Motorola and Westinghouse, she was very conscientious about her work.
Mrs. Kley took great pride in her church work as well, serving for 10 years as congregational secretary and as secretary to the bishop of one of the 65 synods within the ELCA, before she retired in 1991.
She and her husband moved back to Arizona seven years ago. She was very dedicated to her church. While living in the valley, she was a worshipping member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Scottsdale and Abiding Savior Lutheran in Tempe. After she moved to Dewey, she was an active and worshipping member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prescott Valley, and most recently, American Lutheran Church in Prescott.
Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, Robert; son, John; daughters, Kristine Lee Paulausky and Julie Luise Kley; and sister, Barbara Morris Tison.
Memorial services were held at American Lutheran Church, with Pastor Daniel Storvick officiating.
