Ronald Bertrand Batway
Ronald Bertrand Batway, 61, of Gold Canyon, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2002. Mr. Batway, a mechanic, born in Lansing, Michigan, is survived by his companion Linda Davis, daughter Jewell Liane Batway, son Buck Montana Batway, and sisters Patricia Prince and Sherrie Fisher. William C. "Bill" Falk
William C. "Bill" Falk, a long time resident of Apache Junction, passed away June 28, 2002 in Palos Hills, Illinois. He was 90 years old.
In 1958, Bill filed on mining claims four miles northeast of Apache Junction, where he worked and lived for 42 years.
Bill was a charter member, if not the originator, of the Superstition Amateur Radio Club, and operated station K7WJF in Apache Junction until he moved to Illinois to be near his daughter. He is survived by is daughter, Jeanette, and a son, David, of Wauconda, Illinois.

Ronald L. Rogers, 59, of Apache Junction, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2002. Mr. Rogers, a mechanical engineer for the Federal Government, born in Artesia, California, is survived by his wife Marilyn, sons Brad Roberts and Chris Roberts, and grandsons Blake Roberts and Scott Roberts. Lu Verne H. Borden, 56, of Apache Junction, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002. Lt. Col. Lawrence F. Liberty
Lt. Col. Lawrence F. Liberty, 85, of Gold Canyon, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002. Mr. Liberty, a retired Air Force pilot, born in Russell, PA, is survived by his wife Granada Liberty, daughter Sharon Francis Smith, son Lawrence Fred Liberty Jr., 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. William Emerson Service, 81, of Show Low, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2002. Mr. Service, a WWII Veteran of the Air Force, is survived by his wife Amanda D. Service, daughters Colleen S. Shannon-Pettit and Debra J. Myrick, sons William E. Service, Jr., John R. and Douglas K. Service, nephew Richard Service and niece Barbara Wood. Keith M. Tidball
Keith M. Tidball, 69, of Kalispell, MT, passed away Wednesday, July 17, at his home in Apache Junction. Mr. Tidball, born June 9, 1933 in Faith, SD to Mae and Volney Tidball, graduated from Faith High School in 1951. On October 3, 1953, he married Lois Marie Reynolds in Sturgis, SD. Mr. Tidball was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served in the Korean War.
Upon completion of his military service, Mr. and Mrs. Tidball lived in Faith, SD until 1962, when they relocated to Kalispell, MT. Mr. Tidball worked in the C & C Plywood plant, later purchased by Plum Creek, in Kalispell until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, he and his wife again relocated to Apache Junction where he resided during the fall and winter months. Mr. Tidball returned to the Kalispell, MT area during the summer months until failing health caused by complications of diabetes prevented his return in 2002.
Mr. Tidball is survived by his son Richard, two grandsons and a granddaughter, all of Sammamish, WA. He was preceded in death in 1992 by his wife of 39 years, Lois M. Tidball. Services are being held in Kalispell, MT. Memorials are being requested by the family to be made to the American Diabetes Association.
John A. Ahmann
John A. Ahmann, 69, a long time resident of Apache Junction, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 16, 2002. Mr. Ahmann was a graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, served in the military, taught school a short while before working for Kennecott Copper Co. in Kearny, AZ. Mr. Ahmann is survived by his wife Alicia, sister Mary Hallett, stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Mr. Ahmann was laid to rest in Chicago, IL.
Mary H. Stewart
Mary H. Stewart, 84, of Apache Junction, passed away Friday, July 19, 2002. Mrs. Stewart, a retired supervisor of Motorola, devoted her time to her beloved desert home on North Ironwood and worked part time at a local nursery. She volunteered her services at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum for many years and later became afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by her son Victor "Scott" Hoskins of Apache Junction, sister Mrs. F. W. Robinson (Joan) of Boise, Idaho, several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Cremation by Arizona After Care. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Mr. Austin, a Korean War Veteran and Combat Engineer, born in Pyrites, New York, is survived by his wife Irene Austin, daughter Sandra Western, sons Michael, Timothy, Steven and Joseph Austin, sister Patricia Earli, brothers Francis and Harry Austin and 4 grandchildren. Kevin Combs
Kevin Joseph Combs, 20, born in Mesa on January 8, 1982, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2002. Kevin graduated with the Apache Junction High School Class of 2000. Kevin continued his education for a semester at Dakota Weslyn University in South Dakota. He returned to Arizona and was attending Mesa Community College for a degree in Construction Management. Kevin is survived by his mother Nancy, sister Stephanie and father Stephen. Countless other loved ones and friends will sorely miss him. Services were held on Friday, August 16, 2002 at Saint George Catholic Church, 300 E. 16th Avenue in Apache Junction. Arrangements were made by Mariposa Garden Memorial Park and Funeral Care in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made in the name of Kevin Combs Memorial Fund to Gold Canyon Elementary School, Apache Junction Unified School District #43, 5810 S. Shaun A. Stevens, 23, of Apache Junction, passed on to something greater on Monday, August 5, 2002. Shaun was a heavy equipment mechanic, born in Phoenix and is survived, and will be greatly missed, by his beautiful twins, son Sebastian and daughter Carmen, Parents James and Tina, Mom Jan and Grandpa Gary, sisters Amber, Amanda and Mary, brothers Chris and James Jr., uncle Scott, aunts Sally and Cindy, cousins Sarah, Butch, Tanya, Amy, Ken, Jimmy and Andrea, nephew Jonathan and niece Ashley along with many friends. Mr. Peterson, an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, born in St. Paul, MN, is survived by his wife Alfreda "Freddie", sons Bruce, Brian and Carl, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
