Ivan John Rahn

Age: 83
Ivan John Rahn, 83, of Beavercreek, died Friday, June 13, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irene; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy R. and Dennis A. Rhoades of Bellbrook; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy E. and Kerry L. Myers of Enon; son and daughter-in-law, Gary J. and Connie K. Rahn of Cincinnati; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne R. and Brian E. Dennington of Detroit; 11 grandchildren; brother Donald H. Rahn of Dayton; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Eileen and Randy Taylor of Ft. Myers, FL, and Linda and Joe Keller of Beavercreek; sisters-in-law Feppi Rahn of Whittier, CA, Dorothy Johnson of Kettering, and Francis Johnson of Dayton.
Preceded in death by his brother Robert O. Rahn; and brothers-in-law Robert K. Johnson and Marvin C. Johnson.
Ivan was born in Harvey, IL, to Rudolph John and Ruth Ohrman Rahn. He founded Rahn Granite Surface Plate Co. with his father in 1943. The firm was often recognized for its support of hearing impaired employees.
Ivan himself was deaf since early childhood. He, along with his wife, was an active member of the deaf community.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 20 W. First Street, Dayton. The Rev. John S. Paddock is officiating.
Visitation in the church chapel one hour prior to the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, Hospice of Dayton, and Community Services for the Deaf, 221 S. Main Street, Dayton, OH.
Tobias Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Dr. Raymond H. Klug
Died: Friday, June 13, 2003
Age: 78
Klug, Dr. Raymond H., age 78, of Beavercreek, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003.
He is survived by one son, Thomas Loren Klug of New York City; two daughters, Julie Klug Ford of Chicago and Patricia Jo Simantel of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Michael R. Klug of New York City, Brian M. Ford of Chicago, and Emily M. Simantel of Orlando, FL; three sisters, Justine Schinkle of Chillicothe, OH, Mary Lu Tarwater of St. Louis, MO, and Rita Klug of Indianapolis, IN; and one brother, John Klug of Terre Haute, IN.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during WWII. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and loved antique cars. He taught at the Air Force Institute of Technology, New York University, and the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
Ray was deeply religious and found tremendous comfort in his faith, his family and his friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin St., Dayton. Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road. Internment Beaver Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Joshua Nelson Dodge
Died: Friday, June 13, 2003
Age: 19
Joshua Nelson Dodge, 19, of Xenia, passed away Friday, June 13, in Xenia.
He was born January 26, 1984, in Xenia.
Josh was a member of A House of Prayer (AHOP) in Xenia and enjoyed music.
He is survived by his parents, Lisa Dodge and Lawrence "Sonny" LeValley, Xenia, sister, Jessica Louise Dodge, papaw, Nelson Dodge, Xenia, sister like, Lacie Miller, special cousins, Zach Dodge, Amanda and John Dodge, Amber and Amy Gardner, grandparents, Janet and Lawrence LeValley, Texas, Aunts and Uncles, Doug Dodge, Dayton, Sheila Dodge, Xenia, Timmy Dodge, Cincinnati, Donna and David Sams, Xenia, Connie Thomas, Washington, D.C., Bonnie and Tom Thorman, Texas, Rebecca LeValley, Florida, Melissa and David Snyder, Xenia, other relatives and a host of good and special friends. He was preceded in death by his Grammy, Anita Dodge.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 7 p.m. at AHOP, 356 Home Ave., Xenia, with Pastor Mark Brooks officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. service time at the church. The family is being served by the McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc., 826 N. Detroit Street, Xenia.

James Howard Landaker
Died: Friday, June 13, 2003
Age: 86
James Howard Landaker, age 86, departed this world June 13, 2003, at the Chillicothe Veterans Hospital, where he had been a patient since January 17, 2003.
He served in World War II for four years with the HQ. Co. 7th Armd. Division across Belgium and France and in the famous Battle of the Bulge.
At the end of the war he came home to work with his father in farming and later at his home in New Jasper; he and a neighbor raised sweet corn and pumpkins for his many customers.
He enjoyed the Christmas lights and even at age 85 would fill his house and yard in New Jasper with thousands of bright lights.
Born in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of S. Howard Landaker and Lillie (Frnech) Landaker. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gertrude Landaker.
He leaves behind two devoted sisters, Mrs. Wilma (Lloyd) Reed and Mrs. Nellie (Raymond) Moorman, both of Jeffersonville, Ohio. Two nephews, Jerry (Ardath) Moorman of Jeffersonville and John Moorman of Columbus, Ohio and two nieces, Mrs. Bonnie (Jack) Carpenter of Rineyville, Kentucky, and Mrs. Linda (Frank) Hale of Wilmington, Ohio, six great-nephews and nieces and nine great-great-nephews and nieces.
At his request, there will be no visitation. A private Military Honor Guard service will be held for the family at the gravesite.

Vera Mae Coates
Died: Tuesday, August 05, 2003
Age: 60
Vera Mae Coates, 60, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 05, 2003 at Greene Memorial Hospital. She was born in Cedarville, Ohio on Aug. 11, 1942 the daughter of Fred and Janis Hartsook.
She is preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Ashley Arrasmith.
Survivors include her children Rhonda Coates, Tina Coates, Gary (Tammy) Coates, and Derek Coates all of Xenia; a sister Marlene (Kenny) Brewer of Xenia; a brother Gary Hartsook of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; also several extended family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003 at Middle Run Cemetery, Greene County, Ohio.
The family is being served by McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit Street, Xenia.

Robert Lykins
Died: Sunday, August 03, 2003
Age: 38
Robert James Lykins, 38, of Hillsboro, OH, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2003, in Centerville.
He was born May 3, 1965, in Dayton, the son of Thomas J. and Monnie (Hall) Lykins. He was a plumber and an avid softball player called
"Stump" by his teammates; he enjoyed fishing and hunting, too.
He is survived by his parents of Hillsboro; three daughters, Amanda Lykins of Hillsboro; Kaitlynd L. Lykins of Tennessee and Sariah Lykins, Tennessee; a son, James R. Lykins of Hillsboro; a stepson Devyn Gejewsky of Tennessee; paternal grandmother, Mildred Lykins of Fairborn; maternal grandmother, Margie Hall, Hillsboro; and a granddaughter, Ashley Paige Lykins.
His two grandfathers preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn, Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of services at noon.
Burial will be in Byron Cemetery.

Donald E. Tidd
Died: Saturday, August 02, 2003
Age: 69
Donald E. Tidd, 69, of Xenia, passed away Saturday evening, Aug. 2, 2003, at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born March 23, 1934, in Jamestown, the son of Thurman L. and Katherine Smith Tidd.
He was a lifelong Greene County farmer, a member of the New Jasper United Methodist Church, honorary member and former fire chief of the New Jasper Fire Department, member of the Jamestown Masonic Lodge 352, F&AM, an avid camper and member of the Tecumseh 39ers Good Sam Club and Ohio State Good Sam chapters.
He is survived by his wife, Norma (DeVoe) Tidd, whom he married Aug. 27, 1955; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Jean Tidd and Donna Kay and Terry Swisshelm, all of New Jasper; five grandchildren, Joshua Penewit, Geoffrey Penewit, Amanda Penewit, Darren Reed and Andrew Swisshelm; three great-grandchildren, Deanna Penewit, Gary Penewit and Kassidi Payton; a sister, Mildred Hyden; aunt and uncles, Dennis and Eileen Tidd and Arthur Faulkner; sisters-in-law, Barbara Tidd and Carolyn Tidd, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, C. Warren Tidd and Francis M. Tidd.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. Thursday until service time. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
Contributions may be made to the New Jasper Fire Department, 3121 Jasper Road, Xenia 45385.

Jeff Mills
Died: Saturday, August 02, 2003
Age: 77
Jeff Mills, 77, of Xenia, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2003, at the V.A. Medical Center, Dayton. He was born on April 28, 1926, in Mills, Ky., the son of Isaac and Dora (Hubbard) Mills.
Jeff was a veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal. He owned and operated Mills Lock and Key for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of both the AMVET Post #14, Xenia, and VFW #2402, Xenia, a member of Eagle's Lodge #1689, Xenia, and Elks Lodge #668, Xenia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Boss; and a former wife, Ruby.
He is survived by his wife, Edith (Stoner) Mills; his children, Tammy (Arthur) Deaton of Barboursville, Ky., and Tressie (Perry) Bailey of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; Edith's children Sheryl Goble of Xenia, Donald (Myrna) Fisher of Middletown, Katherine (Orie) Barnett of Xenia, Marilyn (Larry) Kyle of Xenia, and Pamela (Allen) Foley of Jamestown; eight grandchildren, A.J. and Jesse Deaton, Chris Toney, Jeff Bailey, Levi and Alison Fisher, Jonathan Goble and Erica Barnett; a sister, Tressie Miller of Lorain, Ohio; brothers Noah (Ethel) Mills of Wellington, Ohio, Arglee (Betty) Mills of Collins, Ohio, Hubert (Geneva) Mills of Amherst, Ohio, and Ron (Karen) Lindner of Berlin Heights, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Garden.
