OGDEN--Irvin Thaddeus Alvord, early Weber county resident and retired business man of Ogden, died Monday on a local hospital following a long illness of paralysis. He was born in Springville, April 28, 1860, a son of Simon and Jane Blanchard Alvord. In (1864 he came to North Ogden with his parents and in 1869 he moved to Pleasant View. He was educated in Weber county schools and the University of Utah. He taught school in the Central junior high school and in Plain City and Eden. He was an active member of the Church and served in various ward organizations.
Mr. Alvord was a farmer and orchardist in Pleasant View. In the early '90's he invented the Little Wonder vacuum washing machine. In 1906 he came to Ogden and operated a store for several years. In 1921 he went to St. Petersberg, Fla., where he invested in real estate, later going to Benton, Harbor, Mich., where he devoted his time to writing. He published a book on political economy and government reform.
He was married Nov. 18, 1885, to Sylvia Stone who died in 1925. Later he married Carrie W. Alvord. Surviving are his widow and the following sons and daughters, Irving V. Alvord, A. A. Alvord, Ogden; Friend LeRoy Alvord, Denver; Mrs. LeRoy DeFrost, New York; Mrs. M. M. Silvera, Menlo Park, Cal.; five grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Lenora Bothwell, a Mrs. Jeanette Brown, Pleasant View.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25 at 1 p.m. in the Lindsuist chapel. Interment will be made in the North Ogden cemetery.
