Maybelle Howden, 96, formerly of the town of Rome died Friday, January 19, 2007, at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Rome Community Church in the town of Rome. The Rev. Duane Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in New Rome Cemetery.
Howden was born February 20, 1910, in Maple Lake, Wright County, Minn., to John and Ida Mae (Holmberg) Engrisch. She married Dwight Howden on October 6, 1928, in Winona, Minn., He died February 14, 1994.
During the war years, Maybelle worked numerous jobs in Chicago, she and her husband farmed in the town of Rome and she was a cook at various restaurants from 1958 until her retirement from Bull's Eye Country Club in 1975.
Maybelle served as Treasurer in the town of Rome from 1951 to 1975. She was a member of the Rome and Nekoosa Senior Citizens and of the Ladies Group at New Rome Community Church. She enjoyed her garden, birds and scenic car rides. Maybelle always had an open door policy at her home for family and friends.
Maybelle is survived by four children, Yvonne Hoffman of Rome, Marlene Kniprath of Rudolph, Dwight (Alice) Howden of Dalton, Ga., Renita (Robert) Sutherland of Rome; son-in-law Robert Deram of Waukegan; 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Frances Pribyl of Buffalo, Minn., one sister-in-law, Lucille Engrisch of Rice Lake.
Maybelle was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Dolores Deram, two son-in-laws, Larry Hoffman and Phil Kniprath, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
