"William Olds
Again the grim messenger of death has entered one of Rice Lake's family circles and taken away a loving father. This time it was William Olds, who was one of the pioneers of this city, and whose death occurred last Saturday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. I.C. Sargeant, at the advanced age of 98 years. Mr Olds had enjoyed good health until about a month ago, when he began to weaken and life gradually faded away until he closed his eyes in that blissful sleep to awaken no more in this dream. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the M.E. Church, and in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. D.C. Jones of the Presbyterian Church officiated, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends of the departed one, after which the remains were escorted to their last resting place in Orchard Beach Cemetery. The deceased was a native of Massachusetts, where he was born the 1st of March, 1799, and at an early age moved from there to the State of New York, where he remained til October 1853, when he moved west and located in this state, and has since that date. The deceased was twice married and was the father of 11 children, eight of whom survive him, and five were present at the funeral services. He had for many years been a devout Methodist, having joined the Church at the age of forty years and had given time and energy for the welfare and progress of the church. The many friends of the departed extend their sympathy to the relatives in their deep affliction and can console them in the thought that there is a better place prepared for those who lead such noble and Christian lives where all is harmony."

Obituary: Wm. Olds, an old resident of this state, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. I. G. Sergeant, in this city, Saturday, Sept. 25th. The deceased was born in Massachusetts, March 1, 1799, moved from there to New York at an early date, and in October 1853 moved to Wisconsin, where he has resided since. Was married twice, having eleven children, eight of whom survive to mourn their loss, and five of these were present at the funeral, which was held from the M.E. church Monday at 2 o’clock p.m., Rev. D.C. Jones officiating. Mr. Olds joined the M.E. church when forty years of age and was a loyal member to the end. His long life is attributed to his methodical and temperate habits.
