"George L. Stecker, 71, of 701 S. Palouse St. died Wednesday, November 5 1986 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day- Saints, Walla Walla. A ritualistic service will be conducted by Jessie Colley Post No. 120 Connell, Wash. The burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Connell City Cemetery. Stecker was born Jan 1 1915, at Spokane Bridge, Wash. to Herbert F. and Clara M. Hall Stecker. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Guam. On June 25, 1941, he married Audrey McCombs in Spokane. They lived in Connell from 1948 to 1962 and Stecker worked as an electrician for Big Bend Electric. They settled in Walla Walla in 1962. He was an electrician for Birdseye of Walla Walla and retired from the company in 1974. Stecker was a member of the VFW and was on the honor guard. He was also an active member of the Jessie Colley Post No. 120, American Legion of Connell and was a past commander there. An avid fisherman, Stecker also was an electronics and woodworking hobbiest. Survivors include his wife, at home; five sons, Steven Stecker of Richland, George L. Stecker Jr. of Yakima, Sidney Stecker of Portland, Vernon "Kelly" Stecker of Stanwood and Leonard Stecker of Ephrata; a sister, Violet Brookshire of Newman Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Herbert "Bud" Stecker of Othello and Marvin Stecker of Newman Lake; and 16 grandchildren. Two daughters and one granddaughter preceded him in death."
