AUSTIN -- The funeral for Gladys E. Howden will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Church of the Open Bible in Austin, with the Rev. Charles Courtney officiating. Interment will be in Enterprise Cemetery, Austin.

Mrs. Howden, 95, of Austin, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2007) at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Gladys Eleanor Ferguson was born Dec. 16, 1911, in Woodstock, Wis. She married Glenn D. Howden in Austin. Following her husband's death, in 1934, she went to work at the George A. Hormel Co., where she worked until retiring in 1975. She was a member of The Church of the Open Bible and completed the INSTE program through the church. She also taught Sunday school for 65 years, as well as teaching in the church school. She served as secretary-treasurer for the Lifetime Ministries. In retirement, she volunteered at St. Olaf Hospital and Austin Medical Center, and enjoyed traveling to visit her family.

Survivors include a son, James (Virginia) of Hurst, Texas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, and eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.

The family prefers memorials to the Open Bible Church or Lifetime Ministries.
