Albert R. Carlson
Albert R. Carlson, age 82, a New York native and longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Jan. 29, 1998, in Hoover, Ala.
He was a retired chief master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was also a 30-year member of BPOE Lodge 1795 and was voted Elk of the Year for his years of humanitarian and loyal lodge service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice L. Carlson. Survivors include his children, Robert Carlson, Dan Norris, Ann Norris Harris and Eddie Norris; sister, Evelyn Davis Hill; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Graveside funeral services, with military honors, will be held at Beal Memorial Cemetery at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Brig. Gen. Glenn R. Sullivan
Retired Brig. Gen. Glenn Ray Sullivan passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 5, 1923, in McCaysville, Ga. He entered military service in 1942 and after a distinguished military career, including 7,600 hours of flying time, he retired in August 1974 as Commander, Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
He has resided in Fort Walton Beach since 1975, where he served as director of the United Way of Okaloosa County for many years and recently enjoyed volunteer instructing at Okaloosa County Applied Technology Center. His passing leaves a great void in the lives of his wife of nearly 52 years, Nadine, and his son, Ray, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth. He is also survived by his mother, Minnie N. Sullivan, and sister, Oberia, of McCaysville, Ga.; and his loving sister, Jo Beaube, and brother-in-law, George, of Mentone, Ala.
True nobility comes of the gentle heart.
His last flight will be memorialized in a service at the Hurlburt Field Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at 1:30 p.m.

Daniel E. Phillips
Daniel E. Phillips, born May 20, 1913 in Coffee County, Ala., and a longtime resident, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 30, 1998.
Dan and his wife, Annie Merle, moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1957 from Dothan, Ala. They owned and operated Phillips Service Center on Racetrack Road until retirement in 1977. He was a member of Wright Baptist Church for more than 35 years. Known for his honesty, integrity and hard work, Dan was a devout family man and true friend to those who knew him. He will certainly be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Annie Merle; brother, Huie Phillips; and sisters, Evelyn Sacco and Willie Phillips.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Gary E. Phillips and wife, Lou, of Montgomery, Ala., Dan L. Phillips and wife, Joan, of Leesburg, Fla., and Kenneth W. Phillips and wife, Marilyn, of Fort Walton Beach; eight grandchildren, Dr. and Mrs. Matt Phillips of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Will Phillips of Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Phillips of Montgomery, Robyn Walters and husband, Chris, of Ocala, Fla.; Rena Phillips of Jacksonville, Fla., Kim Phillips, Christie Phillips and Debbie Phillips, all of Fort Walton Beach; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Dowling Phillips of Valparaiso, Fla., and Howard Phillips and wife, Francis, of Beaumont, Texas; brother and sisters-in-law, Al Sacco and wife, Nita, of Niceville, and Jeanette Phillips of Fort Walton Beach; many, many nieces and nephews; and two long-time friends and neighbors, Bill and Marie Horn of Fort Walton Beach.
The family will receive friends at Little Chapel Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 1998.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, in Little Chapel Funeral Home with Revs. Ronald Gaines and Daniel Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach.

Eunice C. Nance
Eunice C. Nance, age 87, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in Fort Walton Beach. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Walton Beach, a member of the Pacesetters Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Nance was a former resident of Englewood, Fla., where she was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had resided in the Fort Walton Beach area a total of 25 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara J. Roper, of Fort Walton Beach, and Linda L. Nance, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her niece, Natalie Logan, of Lake Wales, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at the Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, Fla., with the Lemon Bay Funeral Home of Englewood directing.

Lillie Mae McLeod
Lillie Mae McLeod, "Mrs. Mac," age 71, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Jan. 31, 1998, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Mac was a native of Mobile, Ala., and moved here with her family in 1959.
Mrs. McLeod was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. (Mac) McLeod, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She leaves behind two sons, Bill McLeod, and wife, Joane, of Crestview, Fla., and Richard C. McLeod, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and two daughters, Deborah and husband, Dallas heslet, of Fort Walton Beach, and Mildred and husband, Daniel Jennings, of Natalia, Texas. There are 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also there are two sisters, Minnie McDuffie, of Grand Bay, Ala., and Margaret Davis, of Round Rock, Texas; brother, Ed Trawick, of Mobile, Ala.; and two sisters-in-law, Annis Shaw and Velma McLeod, of Leaksville, Miss.
The family would like to "thank" Debbie Cummins, a wonderful care giver, Northwest Florida Home Health Agency and Hospice Health Care.

Mrs. Evelyn Bush, age 69, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Jan. 28, 1998.
Mrs. Bush, a loving mother and wife was born in Connecticut. She was a Catholic by faith.
Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Bush, of Fort Walton Beach; sons, Jeffrey R. Bush, of New Bern, N.C., and John H. Bush, of Pensacola; daughter, Barbar A. Weir, of Norman, Okla.; sisters, Irene Bodo, of Sebastian, Fla., Valerie Lucas, of Trumbull, Conn., and Diane McLaughlin, of Bridgeport, Conn.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thelma Burnett, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died on Jan. 30, 1998, at a local health care center.
Mrs. Burnett was born in Lax, Ga. She was a Methodist by faith, a member of VFW Auxiliary 7674, a member of American Legion Auxiliary #235, and the Eagles Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edson. Survivors include her sons, Ben Hogan, of Memphis, Tenn., and Robert Hogan, of Hillsdale, N.J.; and daughter, Kitty Jean Soukup, of Fort Walton Beach.

Alexander John Ratikan, age 50, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Jan. 31, 1998.
Mr. Ratikan was born in Kings County, New York. He was a Catholic by faith. He had lived in the Fort Walton Beach area since 1977, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his son, Alex T. Ratikan, of Fort Walton Beach; brothers, Johnny Ratikan, of Fort Walton Beach, Peter Ratikan, of New York, N.Y., Paul Ratikan and Walter Ratikan, both of Long Island, N.Y.; sister, Nina Ferrara, of Long Island, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Donna Ratikan, of Fort Walton Beach; and special friend, Bill Varity, of Long Island, N.Y.
