Burnett A. McCoy
NORFOLK - On July 25, 2007, at the age of 64, our beloved Burnett Delores Ann McCoy was called home to suffer no more. Burnett was born April 19, 1943, in Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late Tony and Pearl Wilson. Burnett received her bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University. She retired from Leigh Memorial Hospital, where she was a radiology receptionist.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Arnold Banks (Regina) of Portsmouth; two daughters, Sheila Williams (David) of Charlotte, N.C., and Sharon Brickhouse (Sheldon) of Norfolk; two brothers, Ricky L. Banks (Deborah) of Norfolk and Jerry L. Banks who preceded her in death; four sisters, Frances Lightner-Peacock of Ridgeland, S.C., Vivian Banks, Beverly Brooks (Albert) and Arndreer, all of Norfolk; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves to cherish her memory a devoted companion and best friend of more than 20 years, Calvin James Robertson.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Jesus Church of Deliverance, 940 Jones Lane, Chesapeake, with Dr. Lagus McCoy, pastor. Her nephew, Elder Gregory Lightner of South Carolina will give the eulogy.
Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 3569 Tennessee Ave., Norfolk, one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Graves Funeral Home Inc., 1631 Church St., is in charge.

Jerry Royce Summerlin
NORFOLK - Jerry Royce Summerlin, 69, of Peterson Street, went to be with the Lord July 25, 2007. He was born Feb. 23, 1938, to the late William and Minnie Summerlin in Wilson County, North Carolina. Jerry was a very kind, gentle and loving man, who loved his entire family. He was a giving person who would do anything for others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, William Roy Summerlin.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Summerlin; son, Jeffrey Summerlin and his wife Cynthia; sister, Judy Frank and her husband Patrick; sister-in-law, Sherry Davenport; brothers-in-law, Donnie, Richard, Chuck and Terry Hardie; nieces, Julie Elkins, Misty Phillips, Cherry Carter, Carolyn Bray, Joy Grimsley, Pamela Sue Hardie and Jennifer Lynn Hardie; nephew, Charles Summerlin; several other nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home Norfolk Chapel.

Lorena C. Langford
VIRGINIA BEACH - Lorena Clark Langford, 81, died July 27, 2007, in her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Glade Spring, Va., she was the daughter of the late Verl and Nannie Clark and was the widow of Paul Frank Langford. Mrs. Langford was a homemaker and a member of Azalea Baptist Church, Norfolk.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Loder and husband Steve, Connie West and husband Lin and Karen Davis and husband Jim, all of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. John Moxley. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, today from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Azalea Baptist Church, 3314 E. Mary Ella Gray
CHESAPEAKE - Mary Ella Gray, 96, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007. She was a loving mother and friend who will be missed greatly.
Born Nov. 16, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Miles Leigh and Emily Brown Leigh. She was predeceased by her husband, Vernon L. Gray Sr.
Survivors include two daughters, Elsie Neihoff of Orlando, Fla., and Jeanette DeIulio of Chesapeake; a son, Vernon L. Gray Jr. of Newport, N.C.; a sister, Nancy Steele of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Brian Gray, Jackie Acha, D.J. DeIulio Jr., Diane Womack, Cheryl Koch, Randy Forbes and Darren Neihoff; and 10 great-grandchildren, Garett, Emily, Amy, Brian, Robert, Steven, Paul, Michael, Kenton and Kayla.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Minister Bill Cahoon will officiate. The viewing will begin Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.

G’Qwan Cortez Johnson
NORFOLK - Our precious twins, babies Harmony Dion Johnson and G’Qwan Cortez Johnson, were given back to the Lord July 26, 2007, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
They leave to mourn their loss their loving parents, Glen Harris and Rosalyn Johnson of Norfolk and also their older brother, G’Quay M. Johnson.
They also leave to cherish their memory Nathan Coley (grandfather), Catherine Johnson (Nana), Loscie Harris (grandmother), aunts, uncles, loving cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 1101 Campostella Road, Chesapeake, Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Arnola L. Thornton
PORTSMOUTH - Arnola Lewis Thornton, 79, of the 500 block of Weaver Circle, died July 26, 2007, in Bon Secours Maryview
Medical Center. Born in Baltimore, she was the widow of Vernon S. Thornton. She was a member of Mount Sinai Church, Portsmouth, and a senior group.
Survivors include two daughters, Lethia Freeman (Calvin) of Portsmouth and Arlene B. Daughtry (Paul) of Suffolk; a son, Stanley L. Thornton of Portsmouth; three sisters, Annie Mercer of Suffolk, Sally Clay of Portsmouth and Lula Brown of Norfolk; three brothers, Square Lewis of Chesapeake, George Lewis of England and Earl Lewis of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, by Pastor Richie Sessoms. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 2 p.m. today. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. today.

Henry W. Broderick Jr.
VIRGINIA BEACH - Henry W. “Butch” Broderick Jr., 58, of the 5400 block of Wexford Court, passed away July 26, 2007. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Butch was a retired Vietnam War veteran for the United States Army.
Henry attended Rochester Institute of Technology as a business management major. He received several awards including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Arlethea Broderick of Long Island, N.Y.; a stepson, Jermaine Johnson of Long Island; his mother, Bernice Hanson of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Theresa Thrower of Virginia Beach and Loretta Broderick of Brooklyn; three brothers, Albert Fiol of Bronx, N.Y., Isaac Broderick of New York City and Fred Broderick of Nashville, Tenn.; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pembroke Manor United Church of Christ, 600 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends for remembrance and visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Beach Funeral Services, Inc., 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach.
