Capt. R.D. "Andy" Anderson
Captain Andy Anderson, age 55, lifelong resident and boat captain of Destin, Fla., went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 17, 1998.
Andy courageously fought cancer and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his wife, Martha; son, Scott and his wife, Patsy; mother, Nellie Anderson Baker; granddaughter, Amanda; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and John Moore, and Pat and Nick Nicodemus; half brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Carol Anderson, of Memphis, Tenn.; nephews and their wives, Rick and Nancy Moore, and Larry and Marta Nicodemus, of Tallahassee, Fla.; nieces, Sheryl Zollner and Beverly Mays; great nieces, Rachel Mays, Maddie Moore and great nephews, Robert Zollner and Richard Moore.
A celebration of Andy's life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, at the First Presbyterian Church, 154 Calhoun Ave., Destin, Fla., with the Rev. Dr. Charles Lapp and the Rev. Father Ken Murie officiating.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Emerald Coast Funeral Home.

Voncile K. Beasley
Voncile K. Beasley, age 79, of Baker, Fla., died at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, Fla., on Sunday, May 17, 1998.
Mrs. Beasley was born in Andalusia, Ala., on Jan. 17, 1919, to James and Lula Odom Howell and had been a resident of the Northwest Florida area for over 50 years. Mrs. Beasley was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was a member of Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church in Baker. She was also a member of the Democratic National Committee; active in AARP; and an active participant in the development of the Baker school system.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Beasley in 1976. Survivors include her mother, Lula Howell of Crestview, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles M. and Edna Howell of Crestview, James II and Heidi Howell of West Palm Beach, Fla., Dalton and Linda Howell of Cross City, Fla., and Johnny Bryant Howell and his wife of Atlantic City, Fla.; sisters, Margaret Wilkerson of Milligan, Fla., and Lois Howell of Florida; grandchildren, Richard M. Beasley of Charlotte, N.C., Tim M. Beasley of Shalimar, Fla., and Lisa M. Beasley of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Michael T. Beasley and Joseph A. Beasley, both of Birmingham, Ala.
A time of visitation will be conducted from Whitehurst Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. with Mrs. Beasley being placed in the church at 1 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Don Smith. Interment will follow in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Baker.

JoAnn Williamson
Ms. JoAnn Williamson, age 54, passed away Thursday, May 14, 1998, due to a tragic automobile accident.
She was employed as the office nurse for C.W. McFatter M.D., at Destin Gynecology Clinic. JoAnn, as she was known to patients, friends and co-workers, embodied an abundance of love, compassion and deep genuine concern for each and every patient she attended. Her devotion was not limited to her professional duties, but extended far beyond to a personal heartfelt concern for each person she met.
She has been a special angel of comfort for so many people and she will be sorely missed. JoAnn will always be remembered for her warm smile, tender touch, loving heart and her special reassuring pats on the hand.
Ms. Williamson was laid to rest in her hometown of Vicksburg, Miss., on Monday, May 18.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Ashworth; son, Jamie Williamson, both of Niceville, Fla.; mother, Josie Middleton; sister, Vickie Middleton; brother, Tommy Middleton, all of Vicksburg; and sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and James Williams of Livingston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial trust fund is being set up through Destin Bank in loving memory of JoAnn Williamson to benefit medical expenses for her daughter, Jenny Ashworth, who was also involved in this tragic accident. Ms. Ashworth is currently hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
Annie Lois Carr
Annie Lois Carr, age 66, of Niceville, Fla., died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville.
Mrs. Carr was born in Florala, Ala., and had resided in Niceville for the past 42 years. She was a longtime active member of First Assembly of God Church in Niceville; and loved to cook for and entertain her family and friends.
She is survived by her father, Carvin Warsaw Simmons of Niceville; son, Jerry Cawthon of Perry, Fla.; daughters, Shirley Erwin of Tampa, Fla., and Linda Tougaw of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Frankie Ray Simmons of Bartow, Fla.; sister, Laney Faye Meyers of Bentonville, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be conducted at First Assembly of God Church in Niceville at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, with the Revs. George Skipper and Phil Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Early Cemetery in Niceville. Mrs. Carr will be moved to the church one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Hubert Aughtmon, Ronnie Munn, Gerald Solomon, Chuck Rumley, Ken Troupe and James Fuqua.

Linda Louise Mihalcik
Heaven's gain is our loss as Linda Louise Smith Mihalcik died suddenly Sunday, May 17, 1998, in a car accident.
Linda was born in Brewton, Ala., to Jean and the late Jack Smith on Sept. 27, 1948. She was a resident of Niceville since 1967. A graduate of Jones Business College in Jacksonville, Fla., professionally she was the successful business manager of her husband's dental practice for more than 20 years. An extremely dedicated and determined wife and mother, she had extraordinary passion for her family, friends and tennis.
She loved and was loved by many, and served as a volunteer in many community and church activities.
A parishioner of Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Church, Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Michael Mihalcik of Niceville; and four loving children, Christopher, 23, Jennifer, 22, Stash, 17, and Kathryn, 12; mother, Jean Smith of Niceville; brother, Chief Master Sgt. (P) James Smith and wife Linda of Aviano, Italy; sisters, Monica Williamson and husband Richard of Idaho falls, Idaho, and Gail Reese and husband David of Elkhart, Ind.; parents-in-law, Emilia (Millie) and Joseph Mihalcik of Valparaiso, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Dr. James Mihalcik and wife Susan of New York City, and Thomas Mihalcik and wife Sylvia of Sulphur, La.; sisters-in-law, Amelia Mihalcik and longtime family friend, William Eardley of Valparaiso, and Lori Mihalcik of Orlando, Fla.; 12 nieces; four nephews; and two great-nieces.
The family will receive visitors at the church of Christ Our Redeemer on White Point Road in Niceville on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. A vigil service and rosary by Knights of Columbus will be held beginning at 7 p.m.
A Mass of celebration for the gift of Linda's life will take place on Wednesday, May 20, at 5 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Valparaiso Boulevard in Niceville with Father Howard Lesch officiating.
Private interment services will take place later in Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville.

Thomas W. Warnick
Thomas W. Warnick, age 57, of Crestview, Fla., died at his residence Sunday, May 17, 1998.
Mr. Warnick was born in Renovo, Pa., on Aug. 16, 1940, to Charles and Helen Walsh Warnick and had been a resident of the Northwest Florida area since his release from the U.S. Air Force in 1964. Prior to moving here, he had resided in Charleston, S.C.
He was a member of the Old Spanish Trail Festival; American Legion; and Gum Creek Lodge.
He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Warnick had been employed as a postal carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include his loving wife, Pearl (Walters) Warnick of Crestview; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Jennifer Warnick of Crestview; brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Geraldine Warnick of Crestview, and Richard Warnick of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of friends.
A time of visitation will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

James Bryan Cox Sr.
James Bryan Cox Sr., age 74, of Crestview, Fla., died Saturday, May 16, 1998.
Mr. Cox was born in Milton, Fla., on July 17, 1923. He served in the U.S. Army for 16 years, including the Korean War and World War II. He was a mechanic by trade. Mr. Cox was residing at the Crestview Manor.
Survivors include his sons, Ronnie Cox and Jimmy Cox and their families, all of Andalusia, Ala.; sister, Kathryn Sanders of Holt, Fla.; brothers, Ed Cox and Mike Carr, both of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted at First Baptist Church in Holt on Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m.

Roger James Masden
Roger James Masden, age 68, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in a local nursing facility on May 16, 1998, after an extended illness.
He was born in Chicago on July 21, 1929, and moved to this area in 1962. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and owner and operator of the "I Wanna" paper in Fort Walton Beach for 33 years. Mr. Masden was an amateur pilot; former air traffic controller; and professional photographer, who owned his own photography business for several years. He loved playing bingo and frequenting the casinos in Biloxi, Miss.
Mr. Masden is survived by his son, Bill Masden of New Port Richey, Fla.; daughters, Susan Young of Nashville, Tenn., and Carol Shurtleff of New Port Richey; brothers, Jim Masden of Chicago, and Lyle Rosenthal of Los Angeles; sister, Pat Knueppel of Villa Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Nathan Young of Nashville, Tenn., Amber Schurtleff and Christopher Schurtleff, both of New Port Richey; five nieces and nephews, James Masden Jr., Pamela Hartsock and Lynne Kelliher, who are the children of Jim Masden, and Karen Gionetti and Lisa Jolliff, who are the children of Pat Knueppel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 22.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be conducted at a later date in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.

Mary E. McDaniel, age 61, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away at her home on Sunday, May 17, 1998.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1936, in Gaskin, Fla. She had been a lifelong resident of this area and was Baptist by faith; and a member of Westwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include her son, Robert F. McDaniel; daughters, Sandra Jo and son-in-law, Randy Whitaker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Maxine Diane King of Morton, Miss.; brothers, Oliver W. Holmes and Gary R. Holmes, both of DeFuniak Springs; sister, Sherry V. Garrett, also of DeFuniak Springs; and grandchildren, April Keller, Milissia Keller, Emily Moore and Ashley McDaniel.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation with the family one hour prior to services. The Rev. Jerry Nelson will officiate.
Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, DeFuniak Springs, at 1:30 p.m.

Willie C. Combs
Willie C. Combs, age 73, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, May 19, 1998.
She was born on March 6, 1925, in Harrison County, Ky., and had been a resident of this area since 1956, when she moved here from Kentucky. She was Baptist by faith and a member of Cinco Baptist Church. Her failing health during the past 10 years of her life restricted her ability to do a lot of the things she enjoyed most, such as quilting and traveling.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Combs Bixel; a brother, Eugene Wigglesworth; and a sister, Frances Wigglesworth Giles.
Survivors include her loving husband, John W. Combs of 54 years; son, John Lee Combs, also of Fort Walton Beach; daughter, Linda Combs Bixel of Pensacola, Fla.; brother, Ernest Wigglesworth of Greensboro, N.C.; twin sister, Betty Johnson of Georgetown, Ky.; nephews, Thomas Lee Giles of Mankato, Minn., William Perry Giles of League City, Texas, and Gary Johnson of Georgetown; several other nephews and nieces; and also close friends, Jim and Lillian Medley of Fort Walton Beach.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday, May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Mortuary.
Graveside services will be conducted in Beal Memorial Cemetery on Friday, May 22, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mickey Hawkins officiating.
