Clarence W. Henderson
Clarence W. Henderson, age 86, of Freeport, Fla., died July 27, 1998, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Henderson lived in Walton County, Fla., most of his life. He was an employee of the local ice plant for 35 years. Mr. Henderson was also an avid hunter and dog trainer who won many blue ribbons for his training at field trials. He was Protestant by faith.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Susie Elizabeth Stewart Henderson. Survivors include his sons, Gerald Henderson and wife Sue Ann of Freeport, and C. Elton Henderson and wife Gwen of Mobile, Ala.; daughter, Argean Sims and husband Hilton of Tallahassee, Fla.; brother, Monroe Johnson of Camp Hill, Ala.; sister, Lillie Mae Hammock of Auburn, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Henderson will be conducted Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clary-Godwin Funeral Home with the Rev. J.C. O'Neal officiating and grandson, the Rev. Larry Sims, assisting. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Clary-Godwin Funeral Home, DeFuniak Springs, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Margery Ann DeLong
Margery Ann DeLong, age 79, went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband Donald on July 27, 1998.
She was born in Canton, Ohio, on Nov. 12, 1918, and was the only child of Clarence Harvey and Olive Rae Everett. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a volunteer for several years at Elder Services of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
She is survived by her children, Gary Rinehart and wife Becky, Judie Shifflet and husband Wes, Linda McGill and husband Ronnie, Vaughn DeLong and wife Margie, Sandy Kimble and husband Sonny, and Margo Starlnecker and husband Glen; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 529 Clifford St., Fort Walton Beach, at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, with Pastor Jack Walker officiating.

Arthur E. Cook
Arthur E. Cook, age 77, of Crestview, Fla., died Monday, July 27, 1998. He lost his battle with cancer at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1920, in Highland Home, Ala., and moved to Crestview with his family in 1955. He was employed as an aircraft sheetmetal worker at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Cook served his country in the Pacific Theater from 1942 until 1945. He served in the 5th Bomber Command, 5th Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Loraine W. Cook, deceased in 1973, and his wife of 23 years, Mildred Cook, deceased in 1997.
Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Tommy Holland of Crestview; granddaughters, Jennifer Holland Wayer of Birmingham, Ala., Ashli and Katie Holland of Crestview; brothers, James Cook of Luvern, Ala., and Earl Cook of Montgomery, Ala.; sister, Earline Wright of Fort Deposit, Ala.; sister-in-law, Renova William Hamiga of Dallas; brother-in-law, Kenneth Wright of Montgomery, Ala.; and a host of friends who will miss him, along with his five nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at First Baptist Church of Crestview with the Rev. Fran Picker officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Park Cemetery.
Mr. Cook will lie in state at the church one hour before services, and a time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Whitehurst Funeral Home, Crestview, is in charge of arrangements.

Grace S. McSwain
Grace S. McSwain of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away suddenly Saturday, July 25, 1998, while visiting friends in Pascagoula, Miss.
Mrs. McSwain was born on Sept. 18, 1929, in Noma, Fla., to the late Jasper and Mae R. Stokes. Mrs. McSwain was a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach and a member of First Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach. She formerly helped head the church's Sunday school program as director.
She was a loving mother and a wonderful friend who always had time to help others in any situation.
Mrs. McSwain is survived by three children: a son, Ross McSwain, a daughter, Sarah E. McSwain, both of Tallahassee, Fla., and Phillip J. McSwain of Shalimar, Fla.; brothers, Ray C. Stokes and wife Mary Ann of Milton, Fla., and Victor Stokes of Fort Walton Beach; great-aunt and uncle, Eula Lee and Masten Barden of Bonifay, Fla.; and many extended family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. McSwain will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael J. Owenby officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Graceville at 1:30 p.m.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie Exum Barber
Nellie Exum Barber of Crestview, Fla., and formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died July 26, 1998.
Survivors include her husband, Asa M. "Jimmy" Barber of Crestview; daughter, William E. (Barbara E.) Johnston of Sterling, Va.; grandson, Todd Johnston of Washington, D.C.; sister, Elizabeth Creel of Fayetteville; brother, Ray Spruill of Fairburn; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley with the Rev. Fred Shellnut officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Norman L. Adkison
Norman L. Adkison, age 77, 6205 Bethany, Crestview, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 28, 1998.
He was a resident of Crestview and a former resident of Fort Walton Beach and DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Mr. Adkison retired from the Okaloosa County School Board system and was self-employed in landscaping. He was Baptist by faith.
Mr. Adkison was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ralph and Alice Adkison.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Stacy Holley of Crestview; brothers, Hubert Adkison of Mossy Head, Fla., and Brake Adkison of Samson, Ala.; sisters, Lennie Wise of DeFuniak Springs, and Bertie Geohagan of Dothan, Ala.; grandchildren, Terry Coxwell of Abbeville, Ala., Sherry Carroll of Crestview, and Allen Holley of Crestview; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel in Crestview, with Mr. Donnie English officiating. Burial will follow in Lime Springs Cemetery in Samson.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Thelma B. Carter
Thelma B. Carter, age 71, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away at her home July 25, 1998, after an extended illness.
She was born on Aug. 29, 1926, in New Orleans and moved here 14 years ago from New York City after her retirement from the New York City Transit Authority.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Sanford Cosgrove and Levert Octavia Lawson Cosgrove; and a sister, Catherine Lawson. Thelma leaves to cherish her memories one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda C. and James C. Mason of Fort Washington, Md.; sister, Janis Lawson; brother, Edgar Lawson; granddaughter, Crystal M. Mason; grandsons, James Mason and Joel Mason; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; two nieces; one nephew; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Beulah First Baptist Church, 109 N.E. McGriff St., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., with the Rev. S.L. Thigpen officiating.

Jake T. Senn
Jake T. Senn, age 89, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in his residence.
Mr. Senn was born on March 23, 1909, to the late George and Victoria Senn. He was a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach and the former owner, until his retirement in 1972, of Jake Senn Playground Plumbing.
Mr. Senn was preceded in death by his eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Edith C. Senn; sons, George Senn and Joe Senn, all of Fort Walton Beach; sister-in-law, Joyce Pitts of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Becky Perrin, Teresa Smith and Alisha Bobbitt; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Beal Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. J. Lamar Brown officiating.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Donald Ray Garrett
Donald Ray Garrett, age 52, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at his home in Crestview, Fla., after a courageous battle with an extended illness.
Mr. Garrett was born in Crestview and had been lifelong resident of Okaloosa County, Fla. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his father and mother, Robert M. and Alphis Garrett of Crestview; son, Shannon L. Garrett of Crestview; daughters, Amanda A. Swiney of Montgomery, Ala., Regina A. Kiddey of Castelberry, Fla., and Kimberly L. Waltman of Ocean Springs, Miss. He also leaves four brothers, Paul, Charles, Roger and Michael Garrett; and a sister, Juanita Garrett, all of Crestview. There are also 11 grandchildren and many, many friends.
A time of visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. from McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home Chapel and a memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Batson officiating.
McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
