Betty Ann Sherman
Betty Ann Fadeley Sherman, age 69, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in Fort Walton Beach.
She was a native of Havre de Grace, Md., but Fort Walton Beach was her home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Fadeley; and her mother, Nita Pearl Fadeley.
Survivors include her husband, David L. Sherman of Fort Walton Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Russell Brown of Niceville, Fla.; daughter, Debra Tate of Fort Walton Beach; son, Steven Sherman of Fort Walton Beach; sister and brother-in-law, Diane Fadeley Fergusson and Harold Fergusson of Washington state; and brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Janice Fadeley of Virginia. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren, Lyndsey and Jessica Brown; Rick, Steve and Allison McCraw; and Jake Sherman. She also leaves many friends and family in Havre de Grace, as well as San Antonio, Texas, where she lived before retiring with her husband to Fort Walton Beach.
Betty Sherman was a wife, a mom, a grandmother and a friend whose life will be remembered for the many blessings she brought to those left to cherish her memory.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. S.E., Fort Walton Beach, who are entrusted with arrangements. The Rev. Joel Underwood will officiate.
John Cleveland Sherman
John Cleveland Sherman, age 86, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 2, 1998, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Sherman was born on Sept. 6, 1911, in Ensley, Ala., to the late John E. and Ladie Sherman. He moved to the Fort Walton Beach area nine years ago from Atlanta. Mr. Sherman was vice president, secretary and treasurer of Black Diamond Coal Mining Co. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing, travel, big band music, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his son, John Cleveland Sherman Jr. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sherman of Fort Walton Beach; daughter-in-law, Dorris Sherman of Ashville, N.C.; grandson, John Cleveland Russell III of Atlanta.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ashley Pogue officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery in Atlanta at a later date.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the building fund at Trinity United Methodist Church in memory of John Cleveland Sherman.

Michael F. Grimsley
Michael F. Grimsley (Mike, Chin), age 35, of Niceville, Fla., passed away unexpectedly of an unsuspected cardiac condition on Aug. 30, 1998.
Michael was a graduate of Niceville High School and was attending Okaloosa-Walton Community College. He had worked at Bradley Materials, Nicolon Corp., Gustin, Cathern and Tucker Inc., and was currently working at Niceville Glass.
He was greatly loved and will be missed by his mother and father, Grace and Walt Grimsley of Niceville; sister, Cathy; and brothers, William, Richard and Mark; as well as his grandmother, Florence Grimsley; and great-aunt, Lois Powell of Jacksonville, Fla.; aunts, Doris Mills and husband of Crestview, Fla., and Barbara Davis and husband of Milford, Ct.; and numerous cousins, as well as many friends and co-workers.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Destin, Fla., on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the American Heart Association for research into congenital hearth problems, if desired.
Susan Paloma Holloway
Susan Paloma Holloway, age 38, of Niceville, Fla., died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Twin Cities Hospital.
She was born in Torrejon, Spain, and had resided in this area for the past 24 years. She was a 1978 graduate of Niceville High School and a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville.
Survivors include her daughter, Ana Cecelia Holloway; parents, Rudolph E. and Carmen S. Kuhn, all of Niceville; brother and sister-in-law, Edmund Emilio and Alecia Kuhn of Paramount City, Calif.; and her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Kuhn of Eau Claire, Wisc.
The family will receive friends at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. with Father Daniel Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery, Niceville.

James Gordon Beason
Retired Master Sgt. James "Jim" Gordon Beason, age 78, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday morning, Aug. 31, 1998, in a local nursing home.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1919, in Sale City, Ga., to the late Lewis and Vera Beason. Master Sgt. Beason retired to the Fort Walton Beach area from the U.S. Air Force in 1965 after 20 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Lilian Beason of Fort Walton Beach; son, Jimmy Beason of Orange Beach, Ala.; daughter, Pat Moore of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; son, John Badey of Valdosta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Beason chose not to have a memorial service, and memorialization will be by cremation.

Mona F. Geddes
Mona F. (Sanders) Geddes, age 65, of Niceville, Fla., passed away at her home Monday, Aug. 31, 1998.
Mona was born in Nashville, Ga., on Oct. 20, 1932, to James C. and Daisy B. Sanders.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Geddes; daughter, Jo Beth Stafford of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Anne and John Robinson of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Melanie Shay Barnett of Greenville, Miss., and Justin Thomas Robinson of Augusta; and great-grandson, Jordon Stafford Barnett of Greenville.
In lieu of services, Mona has donated her remains to the medical school of the University of Florida.

Marie Lillian White
Marie Lillian "Tootie" White of Pensacola, Fla., with her loving daughter Mary at her side, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Marie was born on Nov. 22, 1910, in Crow Wing County, Brainerd, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lowell White; parents, John Adam Hoffbauer and Mary Elizabeth Gildart Hoffbauer; a younger brother, John A. Hoffbauer Jr.; and grandson, Lowell Theodore White. Tootie had been a resident of Pensacola since 1941.
Mrs. White was a 24-year member of the Pilot Club of Pensacola. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, from which she retired as rectory secretary and church organist in 1991. Marie had joyfully and selflessly served in many other areas to support the ministries of St. John's and was honored by St. John's as the Parish Diocesan Jubilee Medal recipient.
Survivors include her sons, James Lowell White of Navarre, Fla., and John Arthur Quinn White of Butler, Ala.; daughters, Mary Ellen Sams of Pensacola, and Eileen Marie Brown and Paula Kay White, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father's Joseph Going and James Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, South Old Corry Field Road.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:15 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Pallbearers will be Chris Sams, David White, Richard White, Dean White, Jack Wilkins and Allen Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burse Club of St. John's.

Richard Edward Kuehnel
Retired Master Sgt. Richard Edward Kuehnel, age 80, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday morning, Aug. 31, 1998, in a local hospital.
Mr. Kuehnel was born June 18, 1918, in Hillsboro, Mo., to the late Ewald and Anna Kuehnel. The son of immigrants, Mr. Kuehnel was the only member of his family to be born in the United States. He graduated from the Eastman School of Music in June 1941, specializing in the French horn.
Mr. Kuehnel began his military career in 1941 with the Army Air Corps Band. He served his country for 31 years with tours of duty in World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. Master Sgt. Kuehnel retired from the Air Force in 1972 from Hurlburt Field. He had been a resident of the Fort Walton Beach area since 1963. Mr. Kuehnel was a member of the Shalimar United Methodist Church and the Crandall Sunday school class. He was active with the Bayou Shfflers Square Dancers and the Boy Scouts with his children.
Mr. Kuehnel was preceded in death by his brothers, George, William and John Kuehnel; and by his sister, Augusta Marschel. Mr. Kuehnel is survived by his wife, Ann Kuehnel of Fort Walton Beach; son, Richard John Kuehnel and wife Irmeli of Germany; son, Robert Edward Kuehnel and wife Dawn of Louisiana; daughter, Emilie Sims and husband James Ray Jr. of Missouri; daughter, Sylvia Gelineau and husband Michael of Tennessee; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Kuehnel will be Friday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. in the Shalimar United Methodist Church with the Revs. John Collins and Jerry Hollis officiating. Interment will follow at 1:15 p.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Luther Thomas Lawson
Retired Warrant Officer Luther Thomas Lawson, age 69, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away at his residence.
Mr. Lawson was born on Aug. 4, 1929, in Yolande, Ala., to the late Luther Thomas and Elizabeth Lawson. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 after 23 years of service. Mr. Lawson had been a resident of DeFuniak Springs for about eight years and attended Union Hills Baptist Church in Bonifay, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jefferson Davis Lawson; and sister, Lucille Paul. He is survived by his son, Dennis Lawson and wife Maxine of Milton, Fla.; daughter, Jean Lawson of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Diane Fuller and husband David of Knoxville, Tenn.; cousins, Frances Haithcoat, Jean Bourn and Joe and Lilly Lawson; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mr. Lawson will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in Union Hills Baptist Church in Bonifay with the Rev. Marcus Caraway officiating.

Henry Nemo Chafin
Henry Nemo Chafin, age 86, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in a local hospital.
Mr. Chafin was born on March 20, 1912, in McDonough, Ga., to the late Joe Melton and Lydia Ellen Chafin. He moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1973 from Guam. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach.
Mr. Chafin is survived by his wife, Reiko Chafin of Fort Walton Beach; daughter, Jo Ann Kozuma and husband Yoichi of Gainesville, Fla.; granddaughter, Megumi Kozuma of Gainesville; daughter, Georgia C. Greisbach; son, Henry N. Chafin Jr.; daughter, Phyllis A. Chafin; brother, William Viryon Chafin of Marietta, Ga.; and sister, Lilian A. Little of Flower Branch, Ga.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Monroe officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
