Ashli Lorraine Holland
At 12:25 a.m. on Oct. 11, 1998, Ashli Lorraine Holland died after a courageous two-year battle against cancer.
Ashli, a member of First Baptist Church of Crestview, Fla., was always quick to give God the glory for the triumphs she experienced during her illness.
Ashli, born on Nov. 14, 1978, was 19 years old and a lifelong resident of Crestview. Her faith in God, love for others, and beauty set her apart. Ashli was a 1997 graduate of Crestview High School, representing her class as a cheerleading captain, homecoming queen and prom queen.
Ashli was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Brian Holland; and maternal grandparents, Arthur and Lorraine Cook. She is survived by her parents, C. Thomas and Frances Holland and younger sister, Katie, all of Crestview; older sisters, Jennifer Holland Wayer of Birmingham, Ala.; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Holland, also of Crestview.
Funeral services will be conducted at First Baptist Church in Crestview at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, with the Rev. Francis Picker officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery. Ashli will lie in state at the church for one hour before services.

Patsy Ann Conner
Patsy A. Conner, age 66, of Destin, Fla., passed away suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998.
She was born in Champaign, Ill., on Sept. 19, 1932, and recently moved (in May) from Wheaton, Ill., to Destin.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Roy A. Conner Jr.; daughters, Kimberlee A. Kremel and husband Joseph of Berwyn, Ill., Sandra L. Seay and husband Mark of Niceville, Fla., and Wendy G. Ross and husband Don of Destin. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Joseph and Michael Kremel and Rachel Seay.
The second oldest of six girls, she is further survived by Mary Cox and husband Fred, Jean Garrett and husband Robert, Donna Andreson, Karen Kerner and husband Frank, and Linda Behm; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Dr. John Friedman of Destin United Methodist Church conducted a service at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m.

Dorothy L. Montgomery, age 75, died peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Oct. 9, 1998.
Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward "Monty" Montgomery. She is survived by her children, Beverly Sawin, Linda Peters, Debbie Patzig, Edward "Bill" Montgomery and Kim Montgomery; grandchildren, Wesley, Michael, Meredith Sawin, Larry Peters, Zac and Josh DeShazo; and five great-grandchildren.

Marjarie Boles
Marjarie Boles died Oct. 10, 1998, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Mrs. Boles was born on Feb. 11, 1914, in Riverhead, Long Island, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Boles, in 1974. She is survived by her son, Al Boles; brother, Arthur Lucas and his wife Edith Lucas; sister, Elizabeth Routh; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Helen Marie Shingler
Helen Marie Shingler, age 78, of Shalimar, Fla., passed away Monday morning, Oct. 12, 1998, in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Shingler was born on Jan. 25, 1920, in Carbondale, Ohio, to the late Fred and Ethel Beveridge. She moved to Shalimar six years ago from Marion, Ohio.
Mrs. Shingler was preceded in death by her son, James L. Shingler; brothers, Howard and Clyde Beveridge. She is survived by her husband, Howard S. Shingler of Shalimar; son, Larry H. Shingler and wife Anna Belle of Shalimar; daughter-in-law, Linda Shingler of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandsons, Timothy Shingler and wife Tracy of San Antonio, Texas, Todd Shingler and wife Claire of Munich, Germany, and James Lee Shingler Jr. and wife Wendy of Gahanna, Ohio; granddaughter, Laura Shulman and husband Andrew of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Ryan Shingler and Tyler Shingler; brothers, Gerald Beveridge of Cardington, Ohio, Paul E. Henry Hall Jr.
Henry "H.S." Hall Jr., age 76, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at his residence in DeFuniak Springs, Fla.
He was a lifelong resident of Walton County, Fla., and a member of Cluster Springs Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a loving husband, father, stepfather, stepgrandfather, and stepgreat-greatgrandfather. He was a member of VFW Post 4437 and DAV in DeFuniak Springs.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sessoms Hall Sr. and Lula Isabelle Hamilton; and sister, Lucile McCollough. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hall of DeFuniak Springs; stepsons, Chuck Stevens of Mesa, Ariz., James Bruce of Westville, Fla., John Bruce of Newton, Ala.; stepdaughters, Debbie Williams of Clayhatchee, Ala., Brenda Crawford of Hartford, Ala., and Chantell Smith of Hartford; brothers, Ernest T. Hall and Cecil Hall, both of DeFuniak Springs; 10 stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Geraldine Reitzel, age 61, of Destin, Fla., died at her home on Sept. 30, 1998.
Geraldine was a native of Astoria, N.Y. She moved to Destin in 1989. She volunteered her services at the Destin hospital, Destin Library and thrift shop. She was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Chester; her son, John Reitzel; grandchildren, Jaclyn and Kathryn of Wappinger Falls, N.Y.; her daughter, Susan Ryan; grandchildren, Lindsey, Chelsea and Thomas of Las Gatos, Calif.; her daughter, Jean McKenna of Hicksville, N.Y.; and her brother, Robert Barto of Palaka, Fla.
Geraldine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a community volunteer. She will be greatly missed by all.

Vera J. Martin Davis
Vera J. Martin Williams Davis, age 81, a resident of Freeport, Fla., for the past six years and formerly a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., for over 50 years, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 1998.
Vera was born on May 31, 1917, in Covington County, Ala.
She is survived by three daughters and their families, Jean and Bill Arrant of Freeport, Jo Ann Conklin of Tallahassee, Fla., and Joyce Infinger of DeFuniak Springs; grandchildren, Terri and David Dykes of Nashville, Tenn., Michelle Hurst and Michael Borchardt of Crawfordville, Fla., Gail and Jimmy Harrison of Westville, Fla., Sheila and Mike Strickland of Caryville, Fla., Michael and Lisa Johnson of DeFuniak Springs, and Donna and Adam Owens of Bonifay, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Dykes, Dustin and Jeffrey Harrison and Hunter Owens; brother, M.R. "Jimmy" Martin of DeFuniak Springs; and sister-in-law, Mildred Martin of Marianna, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Lloyd Davis; parents, George M. and Agnes Leona Martin; and brother, Cecil Martin.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She touched many lives with her positive inspirational energy and inner strength. Her encouraging spirit will live on in our lives.
She was a retired LPN nurse from Lakeside Hospital; past commander of DAV Auxiliary; enjoyed many years in the Eastern Star Chapter 115; was a member of Freeport Over 50 Club; Freeport Town Planters Society; Freeport Art Group; and served her Lord in Freeport United Methodist Church.
The family will greet friends Thursday, Oct. 15, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Freeport United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Johnson, Kelly Shin and Daniel Zaboski officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs.

James Harris Strong Jr.
James Harris Strong Jr., age 46, of Navarre, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998.
He was a lifelong resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was currently a mason with Windsor Builders and had worked with numerous other builders in the area.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Strong of Holley-Navarre; daughter, Misty Lea Ann (Travis) Woodward; sisters, Betty (Ronnie) Beasley, Diane (Leslie) Vosburgh, all of Fort Walton Beach, and Susan (Lou) Fedullo of Merritt Island, Fla.; brother, David (Connie) Strong of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles in Tennessee and Hawaii; and parents, James and Ruth Strong of Fort Walton Beach.

William C. Kittrell
William C. Kittrell, age 71, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Kittrell was born in San Jose, Calif., and retired from the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif. He resided in Memphis, Tenn., for many years. After his full retirement he moved to Gulf Breeze five years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie; daughters, Teressa Montgomery of Mary Esther, Fla., Tracee O'Nan of Coral Springs, Fla., Toni Kittrell of Memphis, and Tammy Scott of Navarre, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; twin sister, Marion Fisher of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Midway Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis J. Brunet officiating. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery.

John H. Hayes
John H. Hayes, age 66, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away suddenly Oct. 12, 1998, in Norwood, Colo.
He was born in Oxford, Wisc., on March 21, 1932, to the late Henry and Beatrice Evans. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired after 20 years of devoted service to his country in 1971. In 1972, he began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone and retired from the phone company in 1990. At the time of his death he was employed by Navarre Marine in Navarre, Fla.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, LaVerne M. Hayes; sons, John L. Hayes and wife Kathy of Montgomery, Ala., Glenn P. Hayes and wife Linda of Clovis, N.M., Len G. Hayes and wife Nora of Navarre, and Howard A. Hayes and wife Kathy of Panama City, Fla. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nellie Birkholz. He is survived by his sister, Mildred Trealor of Rio, Wisc. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
