Archie M. Jenkins, 86, of Westminster-Canterbury Drive, Winchester, died Saturday March 24, 2001, at Westminster-Canterbury.
He was born March 28, 1914, in Hudson’s Crossroads, Shenandoah County, son of Philip A. and Victoria V. Rinker Jenkins.
He retired from Avtex Fibers in March 1979. Before World War II, he worked at the Virginia Woolen Mill. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Pinehurst, Texas.
His first wife was Agnes V. Womeldorph who died in 1979. His married Edith V. Harloe June 6, 1981 in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are a sister, Mary Frances Nair of California; a stepson, Charles G. Funk of Vienna; and two step-grandchildren.
A stepson Robert Womeldorph is deceased.
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel/Winchester with the Rev. H. Eugene Baker officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 2123.
Pallbearers will be Brian Funk, Michael Funk, Charles Funk, Charles Heishman, Robert Jenkins, and James W. Brown.

Mary Jean Oates, 73, of High View, W.Va., died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Oates was born June 1, 1927, in Gore, the daughter of J. Bryan and Nina Shingleton Constable.
She was a member of Timber Ridge United Church of Christ, High View, and a homemaker.
She married Harry W. Oates Dec. 24, 1947, in Hagerstown, Md.
Surviving with her husband, are three daughters, Elizabeth D. Wingfield and Nina J. Smeltzer, both of High View, and Vickie O. Conneway of Bloomery,W.Va.; a brother, Linwood Constable of Hagerstown; a sister, Garlandine Rider of El Paso, Texas; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A son, Harry W. Oates Jr., is deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va., with the Rev. Gregory R. Kenney and the Rev. Jack Wardrope officiating. Burial will be in Timber Ridge Church Cemetery, High View.

Rachel Virginia Miller, 83, of Welltown Road, Winchester, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Miller was born July 21, 1917, in Needmore, W.Va., the daughter of Laban and Elida Whetzel Parker. She had been a seasonal worker at Zero Pack and a homemaker.
She was a member of New Dale Brethren Church.
She married David R. Miller on May 16, 1934, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Miller died March 9, 1995.
She was cared for by Jeannie Crosen of Winchester.
Surviving are a son, David R. “Dutch” Miller Jr. of Winchester; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A son, Garland R. Miller, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Mary Virginia Shryock, 93, of 55 East Washington St., Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Mrs. Shryock was born July 12, 1907, in Stephens City, the daughter of Hugh A. and Ernestine Browning Funk. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
She was married to James R. Shryock, who died in 1952.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy L. Raymer and Janet L. Smith, both of Hagerstown; a son, James B. Shryock of Maugansville, Md.; a sister, Alice L. Funk of Stephens City; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City, with the Rev. John Ericson officiating.

Donnie Franklin Vaughn, 59, of 137 Sycamore Lane, Maurertown, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Vaughn was born Feb. 5, 1942, in Shenandoah County, the son of Walter Dolan and Ruby Presgraves Vaughn. He was a self-employed builder and a former postal worker in Arlington.
He was a 1960 graduate of Central High School and a member of Woodstock Moose Lodge 575.
He was engaged to marry Susan Carlysle of Maurertown.
Surviving are two sons, Corey Franklin Vaughn of Staunton and Michael Vaughn of Alexandria; two daughters, Tina Vaughn of North Carolina and Donna Vaughn of Alexandria; seven sisters, Dorothy Wright and Kathy Lineweaver, both of Woodstock, Ethel Seal of Maurertown, Sharon Kaiser of Middletown, Jean Mumaw of Broad Run, Susan Harper of Strasburg, and Betty Sheetz of Berryville; two brothers, James Vaughn of Winchester and Walter Vaughn of Stephens City; and two granddaughters.

Mrs. Allen was born March 26, 1977, in Charles Town, the daughter of Michael and Barbara Imes Marchesani. She was a teacher’s aide with the Headstart program in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.
She was a member of Martial Arts USA.
She married Jeffrey Scott Allen on May 26, 1996, in Winchester.
Surviving with her husband, and her mother, of Charles Town, are two sons, Jeffrey Allen and Evan Allen, both at home; two brothers, Marc Marchesani and Mike Marchesani, both of Charles Town; four sisters, Dana Johnson and Levi Marchesani, both of Charles Town, Dawn Marchesani and Sheri Kirlew, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.

William Bowley
William “Doug” Bowley, 46, of Truman Road, Perrysburg, Ohio, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Bowley was born Feb. 28, 1955, in Winchester, the son of William Cornwell and Elsie Bowley. He was raised by Iris Cresswell, of Winchester.
He was a lab technician and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was a volunteer firefighter and an emergency medical technician in Ohio and Virginia.
He married Luane Heller Emch on May 3, 1996, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Michael Bowley of Frederick, Md., and Justin Bowley of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a daughter, Brianna Bowley at home; four stepchildren, Kristi “Joe” Daum of Clinton Township, Mich., Michelle Emch, Heather Emch, and Ryan Emch, all at home; four sisters, Judy Fargo of Mayfield, Ky., Joan Malone of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Jean Meadows of Winchester, and Mary Margaret Cornwell of Berryville; a brother, John Cornwell of San Diego; and two grandchildren.
A funeral was Tuesday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pemberville, Ohio, with the Rev. Dr. James Dumke officiating.

Lillian Gray Crouse, 90, of Paw Paw, W.Va., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the home of her son in Paw Paw.
Mrs. Crouse was born June 27, 1910, in Coaldale, W.Va., the daughter of Gordon J. and Mary Lou Richardson Fowler. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Gaithersburg, Md. and was a homemaker.
She was married to Lawrence H. Crouse, who died in 1961.
Surviving are two daughters, Bernice Smith of Paw Paw and Darlene Brewster of Rockford, Ohio; two sons, Eugene Crouse of Paw Paw and David Crouse of Cedar Bluff; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A foster son, Alfred Crouse, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cranens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluefield, W.Va., with the Rev. Max Linkous and the Rev. Samuel A. Brewster officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bluefield.
