Evelyn M. Tucker
Evelyn Maxine Vaughn Tucker, 73, of 111 Bellview Ave., Winchester, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Tucker was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Rileyville, the daughter of Walter and Ruby Presgraves Vaughn. She retired from Crown Cork & Seal and from The Earring Tree. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a graduate of Toms Brook High School.
She married Emitte Tucker on Aug. 3, 1945.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Gayla Smith, Vicki DeHaven, and Amy Greynolds, all of Winchester; seven sisters, Dorothy Wright and Kathy Lineweaver, both of Woodstock, Ethel Seal of Mauertown, Jean Mumaw of Broad Run, Susie Harper of Manassas, Sharon Kaiser of Middletown, and Betty Sheetz of Berryville; three brothers, James Vaughn of Winchester, Donnie Vaughn of Woodstock, and Walter “Buddy” Vaughn of Stephens City; a half-brother, Michael Vaughn; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Cindy Tucker, died in 1947.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shenandoah Memorial Park, with the Rev. James Utt officiating.

Joseph D. May
Joseph Delmar “Joe” May, 59, of 1007 Clark Court, Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Friday, June 16, 2000, at his home.
Mr. May was born April 6, 1941, in Carey, Ohio, the son of Curtis James and Donnie Conley May. He was a supervisor for Bell Atlantic, retiring after more than 30 years. He previously worked as a communications specialist at the White House during the Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson administrations.
He was a graduate of Oil Springs High School, Oil Springs, Ky. He served as a staff sergeant with the Army.
His wife, Patricia Jane Godlove May, died on Nov. 1, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Jack D. May of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and a daughter, Ruth Blanton of Carey, Ohio.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gainesboro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roger May, Larry Blanton, Joe Colvin, Charles Grimes, Broddus Tomlin, and Kevin Doherty.

Samuel O. Maiorana
Samuel Owen Maiorana, 47, of 1130 Pine Ridge Drive, Front Royal, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Maiorana was born July 26, 1952, in Austin, Texas, the son of Thomas and Kathleen Phegley Maiorana. He was employed as a trim carpenter.
He was a member of Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church.
He married Sandra Colberg Maiorana on July 19, 1986, in Warrenton.
Surviving with his mother, of Front Royal, and his wife are a son, Austin Wyatt Kemp Maiorana at home; two brothers, Tony Maiorana of Winchester and Larry Maiorana of Orlando, Fla.; and his sister, Stephanie LeMay of Winchester.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jack Wampler officiating.

Stanley E. Hash Sr.
Stanley Enoch Hash Sr., 73, of 102 Euclid Ave., Winchester, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Hash was born July 18, 1926, in Gaithersburg, Md., the son of Edgar Jackson Hash and Lydia Virginia Hash. He was the assistant manager of an A&P grocery store in Alexandria for 30 years.
He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Senior Bowling League in Charles Town, W.Va.
He married Fannie Rebecca Hash on June 8, 2000, in Charles Town.
Surviving with his wife are four sons, Stanley E. Hash Jr. of Aldie, John E. Hash of Modesto, Calif., and Dennis E. Hash and Michael E. Hash, both of Catlett; two daughters, Deborah K. Altman of West River, Md., and Brenda S. Eugenio of Gaithersburg; three brothers, Boyden Hash of Gaithersburg, Bill Hash of Big Meadow, and Howard Hash of Rockville, Md.; two sisters, Virginia Vance of Mt. Airy, Md., and Frances Weaver of Huntingtown, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren;
Burial will be in Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg.

Ella D. Larrick
Ella Dinges Larrick, 78, of 12487 Lord Fairfax Highway, Boyce, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Larrick was born Oct. 9, 1921, the daughter of James Dinges and Lena Wilson Welsh. She was raised by her stepfather, Charlie B. Welsh.
She was a former member of the Strasburg American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was married to Woodrow Wilson Larrick, who died Sept. 29, 1982.
Surviving are four sons, Donald W. Larrick of Middletown, Allen L. Larrick of White Post, Tommy D. Larrick of Winchester, and Dale D. Larrick of Boyce; her half-brother, Charles Welsh of White Post; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James N. Larrick.

Pauline Shrader
Pauline Shrader, 78, formerly of Fairfax Lane in White Post, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, in Culpeper.
Mrs. Shrader was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Smith County, the daughter of Robert L. and Lora Gillespie Stevenson. She retired in 1984 as a machine operator for Doubleday.
She was married to John Robert Shrader on Aug. 4, 1936, in Bristol, Tenn.
Surviving are a son, James D. Shrader of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Karen S. Slayden of Whitacre; two sisters, Hazel Powers of Haymarket and Helen Trip of Manassas; two brothers, Robert L. Stevenson of Marion and Louis Rutter of Haymarket; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Joseph H. Shrader, preceded her in death.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, with Dr. Ken H. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Sara Belle Cather
Sara Belle Shirkey Cather, 94, of 1498 Martinsburg Pike, Winchester, died Thursday, June 15, 2000.
Mrs. Cather was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Staunton, the daughter of John Joseph and Jessie Hewitson Close Shirkey. She was a school teacher with the Winchester City Schools system and taught at John Kerr Elementary School. She was a graduate of State Teachers College, now James Madison University.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was the kindergarten director for 13 years. She was a member of the Civic League and the Girl Scouts. She was past president of Colonial Garden Club and had been a volunteer at Winchester Memorial Hospital.
She married Charles Irvine Cather on April 2, 1931, in Baltimore. Mr. Cather died June 11, 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Cather Moses of Danville and Judith Cather Keeling of Virginia Beach; a son, Charles Irvine Cather Jr.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Omps Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carlyle A. McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Howard G. Smith Sr.
Howard Garland Smith Sr., 75, of Indian Mound, Tenn., formerly of Romney, W.Va., died Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Romney, the son of John Smith and Bessie E. Smith Corbin.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of American Legion Hampshire Post 91 and VFW Wappocomo Post 1101, both of Romney.
Surviving are two sons, Howard G. Smith Jr. of Gatlinburg, Tenn., and Larry Smith of Augusta, W.Va.; three daughters, Barbara Michael of Paw Paw, W.Va., Christine Gear of Winchester, and Patty Brown of Butler, Pa.; three brothers, George William Corbin of Stephenson, Russell Corbin of Ranson, and Theodore Corbin of Winchester; three sisters, Nancy Pownell of Three Churches, W.Va., and Rosie Bradley and Vada Strosnider, both of Charles Town; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Rosie Bell Arnold
Rosie Bell Arnold, 89, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Arnold was born Oct. 14, 1910, in Germantown, Md., the son of James E. and Mary Howard Earp. She was retired from the Montgomery County School Board. She attended Westview Baptist Church.
She was married to Herbert Lee Arnold.
Surviving are two sons, Herbert W. Arnold of Martinsburg and Charles E. Arnold of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two daughters, Barbara Irene Runion of Potomac, Md., and Mary Lee Greer of Martinsburg; two brothers, Eugene Earp of Hyattstown, Md., and Carroll Earp of Leetown, W.Va.; a sister, Blanche Trout of Mt. Airy, Md.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Gisela G. MacDonald
Gisela Gertrude Emmy MacDonald, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Clearview Manor in Bentonville.
Mrs. MacDonald was born in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Kaufmann Eugen Mortiz and Elizabeth Josephine Laufenberg Entoven.
She was trained as a pharmacist in Germany.
She taught herself photography and became an accomplished photographer of the ice skating world in Europe.
She was well known for her landscape oil paintings of the Shenandoah Valley.
She married Arnold Phillip MacDonald on March 10, 1965.
Surviving with her husband, are a son, Peter Entoven of Bishopville, Md.; and a sister, Erna Entoven of Cologne, Germany.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rockland Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Andes officiating.

Evelyn L. Steele
Evelyn Laing Steele, 78, of Front Royal, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Heritage Hall, Front Royal.
Mrs. Steele was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Warren County, the daughter of Silas W. and Ada Lou Robinson Laing.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
She was married to John R. Steele, who died in 1977.
Surviving are a son, John Robert Steele Jr. of Wilmington, Ohio; two daughters, Jolissa S. Mathews and Elizabeth S. Bolton, both of Front Royal; and three brothers, Thomas S. Laing, Robert E. Laing, and S. Moody Laing, all of Front Royal; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Frances Virginia Beard Sheely Barb, 75, of 2527 Wilson Blvd., Winchester, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Barb was born April 6, 1925, in Martinsburg, W.Va., the daughter of Julian Thomas Beard and Pauline Pearl Lamp Beard Greth. She was a private duty sitter in Winchester and a member of Agape Christian Center.
She was married to George H. Barb on Nov. 15, 1948, in Williamsport, Md. Mr. Barb died July 16, 1986.
Surviving are four daughters, Ann Renae Fletcher of Yerington, Nev., Beverly Barb DeHaven of Norfolk, Terri Barb Grady of Stephens City, and Jerri Barb Ferris of Winchester; a son, George H. Barb Jr. of Winchester; a stepdaughter, Judith Grimm Wilson of Winchester; two stepsons, Lucian Grimm of Winchester, and Earl Houston Grimm of Stephens City; 26 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
A stepson, Winston Wayne Grimm, is deceased.

Cornelius “Neal” Seth Poole, 99, of Greensboro, N.C., died Tuesday, June 13, 2000.
Mr. Poole retired after 30 years with Motor Bearings and Parts.
He was a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church, Greensboro.
His wife was Larcenia C. Poole.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby E. Poole of Greensboro and Jerry V. Poole of Durham, N.C.; two daughters, Ann Poole Drake of Stephens City and Ouida P. Tucker of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Mitchem was born Feb. 22, 1957, in Frederick County, the daughter of Luther William and Helen Greenwalt Fisher. She was a school bus driver for the Fauquier County public schools for 25 years.
She married Dallas L. Mitchem on Dec. 28, 1972, in Alexandria.
Surviving with her husband, are a daughter, Kimberly Mitchem of Orange County; a son, Kevin Mitchem at home; two brothers, Luther W. Fisher Jr. of Bracey and Kenneth Lee Fisher of Fairfield, Conn.; and a grandchild.

Dallas F. Blaney
Dallas F. Blaney, 73, of Romney, W.Va., died Monday, June 12, 2000, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Mr. Blaney was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Masontown, W.Va., the son of Dallas Blaney and Bertha Dengg.
He was an iron worker from 1951 to 1981 and worked at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind for 10 years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of VFW Post 1101 and Ebenezer United Methodist Church, both of Romney.
He was married to Lorraine Fike.
Surviving with his wife, are a daughter, Linda Ault of Akron, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Wendi Durst of Augusta, W.Va.; and a sister, Rosalea Shaffer of Augusta; and four grandchildren.

Harry Johnson
Harry Johnson, 98, of Front Royal, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Johnson was born March 15, 1902.
Surviving are a daughter, Frances Carson of Beckley, W.Va.; three brothers, William Johnson of Baltimore, James H. Johnson of Goochland, and Augustus Johnson of Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Leonard Howard McDonald, 94, formerly of Mill Dale, Warren County, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in Manassas.
Mr. McDonald was born March 10, 1906, in Warren County, the son of Joseph and Josephine Weaks McDonald.
He was a farmer and farmed Mt. Zion farm, owned by John B. Earle, for more than 61 years.
He was a member of Loudoun Baptist Temple in Leesburg.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Seale of Berryville; three sons, Leonard W. McDonald of Leesburg, Kenneth C. McDonald of Front Royal, and Alec D. McDonald of Winchester; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret F. Seabright
Margaret Fleming Seabright, 70, of Walker Street, Winchester, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Seabright was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Hughesville, the daughter of John T. and Matilda Kirby Fleming. She was a registered nurse. She had worked in public health for Cook County, Ill., Winchester Memorial Hospital, and Beverly Enterprises of Winchester.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Winchester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a member of the Virginia Nurses Association.
She married Donald E. Seabright on Sept. 16, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md.
Surviving with her husband, are two sons, Gary G. Seabright and Donald E. Seabright Jr. , both of Winchester; a daughter, Margaret Denise Webster of Winchester; four sisters, Irene Vanek of Rochester, N.Y., Betty Lake of Round Hill, Mary B. Killough of Winchester, and Thelma Fleming of Woodstock; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hartley L. Wigfield officiating. Burial will be private.
