Lula P. Wigenton
Lula Phillips Wigenton, 89, of Front Royal, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the home of her niece and caregiver, Hester Groves.

Mrs. Wigenton was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Amissville, the daughter of Wesley Curtis Phillips and Amandell Allen Phillips.

She was a housekeeper.

She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Amissville, and president for 61 years of Amissville Women’s Progressive Club. She was an honorary charter member of the Magdalene Chapter 208 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the NAACP, American Legion Post 174 Auxiliary, and 2nd National Ketoctan Association Auxiliary.

She was married to Edward “Babe” Wigenton.

Surviving are three sisters, Madaline Carter, Laura Johnson, and Pearl Groves, all of Amissville; and two brothers, Norman Phillips and James Phillips, both of Amissville.

A funeral will be at noon Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church, Amissville, with the Rev. Herman Washington Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be L. Anthony Groves, Johnny Dubose, Raymond Groves, Calvin Cook, Darnell Cook, and Wilbur Townley.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at New Covenant Church, Front Royal, and one hour before the time of the service at Bethel Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Warren County Senior Center, 1217 Commonwealth Ave., Front Royal 22630.

Evelyn G. Bean
Evelyn Graham Huber Bean, 88, of Main Street, Stephens City, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Bean was born Aug. 18, 1911, in Floyd County, the daughter of Cephas M. and Cora Graham. She was an operator with C&P Telephone and a nurse’s aide at Winchester Memorial Hospital. She was a nursery school teacher at Stephens City United Methodist Church and a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, Stephens City Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and Stephens City United Methodist Church.

She was married to Norman W. Bean, who died in 1961, and Boyd A. Bean, who died in 1983.

Surviving are two daughters, Jo Ann Lantz of Frederick County and Dixie Erwin of Stephens City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Two children, C. Rebecca Bean and Norman G. Bean, are deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home Stephens City, with the Rev. G. Kirk Nave officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City.

Pallbearers will be John D. Petrie, Stanley Carbaugh, Michael Grim, Rick Markley, William H. Grim, Fred Fonville, and her grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Anthony A. Davis
Anthony Allen Davis, 20, of Augusta, W.Va., died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Mr. Davis was born June 12, 1979, in Winchester, the son of Harry Richard Davis and Virginia Marie “Ginny” Davis Wright. He was a corporal in the Marine Corps, based in Jacksonville, N.C., and a 1998 graduate of Hampshire High School. He was a member of Tearcoat Church of the Brethren, Augusta.

Surviving with his father of Kirby, W.Va., and his mother of Augusta are a sister, Jennifer Renee Davis of Augusta; a brother, Michael Lee Davis, of Augusta; his paternal grandmother, Frances Davis of Kirby; his foster grandparents, Earsel and Violet Timbrook of Augusta; and an aunt, Johanna M. Rohrbaugh.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, with the Rev. James Tyree officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ray L. Miller
Ray Lester “Tater” Miller, 58, of Upper Pine Grove Road, Baker, W.Va., died Friday, June 9, 2000, in Baker.

Mr. Miller was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Needmore, W.Va., the son of Ray Eugene Miller and Viola Gay Combs Miller. He was formerly employed at Rocco Farm Foods Inc. in Edinburg. He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Baker.

Surviving are a sister, Ruth Miller of Baker; four brothers, James Miller of Gore, Authur “Ike” Miller of Mathias, W.Va., Charles Miller of Timberville, and Lawrence Miller of Baker; and a half-brother, Charles Combs of Kentucky.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Baker, with the Rev. Nip Crites officiating. Burial will be in Baker Run Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Combs, Charles Combs, Lee Miller, Paul Shazer, Scott Shazer, and Mark Barb.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Kathleen M. Shriver
Kathleen Marie Shriver, 81, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Shriver was born April 19, 1919, in Stotlers Crossroads, W.Va., the daughter of Ward and Eva Blanche Dawson Hovermale. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Stotlers Crossroads, where she was a Sunday school teacher and active in the United Methodist Women. She attended Pleasant Dale School in Posey Hollow and was a 1938 graduate of Bath District High School in Berkeley Springs.

She was married to Hammond Brenton Shriver for 59 years.

Surviving with her husband are a daughter, the Rev. Kialeen S. Potterton of Winchester; a son, Roger Sterling Shriver of Gaithersburg, Md.; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burchell A. Wiley
Burchell Allen Wiley, 71, of 669 Mt. Carmel Road, Paris, Va., died Friday, June 9, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Wiley was born April 13, 1929, in Clarke County, the son of Milbourne Athey Wiley and Mildred Rachel Royston Wiley. He retired from Sechrist Lumber Co.

He served with the Army in Germany from 1956 to 1959 and was a member of Boyce Baptist Church.

Surviving are his companion, Anna Bell Grimsley; his daughter, Rachel Virginia Sipe of Ranson, W.Va.; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with the Revs. Clinton B. Lawyer and Paul David Marlowe Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Pallbearers will be Harold Sechrist, Richard Fletcher, Roy Fletcher, William Grimsley, Jason Newlin, Jeff Carter, Walter Jackson, and Eddie VanKeuren. Military honors will be provided by the Clarke County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

P. Stanley Wakeman
P. Stanley Wakeman, 85, of 1206 Mt. Olive Road, Toms Brook, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Wakeman was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Shenandoah County, the son of Hugh H. and Nellie Mae Funkhouser Wakeman. He was a lifelong member of Round Hill Church of the Brethren, a farmer, a retired postal worker, a school bus driver for Shenandoah County Public Schools, a member of the Toms Brook Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Maur-Brook-Olive and Toms Brook bowling leagues.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Lee Hamman Wakeman; a son, Greg Wakeman of Toms Brook; a foster brother, Richard “Dickie” Murphy; two foster sisters, Dalene Heltzel of Woodstock and Ann Wakeman Lineburg of Reston; and two grandsons.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Round Hill Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Gordon C. Bayles officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephens Cemetery, Strasburg.

Pallbearers will be Richard Funkhouser, Jason Rhodes Jr., Carl J. Cook, Jack Orndorff Sr., Irving “Sonny” Holler, and Jimmy Gillenwater.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

Stella I. Daniels
Stella Irene Lowery Daniels, 57, of Round Hill Road, Winchester, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Daniels was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Frederick County, the daughter of Arthur and Salome Roe Lowery.

She was a nursing assistant at Welcome Haven Home in Winchester.

She was a member of Relief United Methodist Church.

She was married to Wayne J. Daniels, who died Jan. 1, 1993.

Surviving are three sons, Arthur Daniels of Front Royal, Robert Daniels of Stephens City, and Wayne Daniels of Frederick County; a sister, Mary Lowery of Strasburg; a brother, William Lowery of Shenandoah County; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with the Rev. Robert C. Blinn officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Jones Funeral Home.

Harry D. Deavers III
Harry David Deavers III, 34, of Front Royal, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at the home of his companion, Margie Eshelman.

Mr. Deavers was born July 6, 1965, in Front Royal, the son of Harry D. Deavers Jr. and Donna Kersey Smith. He was a tree trimmer for BMW Excavating in Centreville.

He was a member of Chester Gap Baptist Church.

He was a member of the pit crew of Dennis Lamb’s No. 3 Racing Team at Winchester Speedway.

Surviving with his companion, and his parents, both of Front Royal, are two daughters, Christina and Catherine Deavers, both of Front Royal; his stepmother, Patricia L. Deavers of Front Royal; two brothers, James E. Deavers of Capon Bridge, W.Va., and John Deavers of Front Royal; two sisters, Evelyn Armentrout of Woodstock and Pamela Deavers of Front Royal; two stepbrothers, James Cox Jr. and Thomas Cox, both of Front Royal; and two stepsisters, Lisa Bull and Madeline Martin, both of Front Royal.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Jimmy Burke and Pastor Samuel Blakely officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Shifflet, Ralph Wolf, Mike Reardon, Wesley Deavers, Donald Bull, and Todd Martin.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Frederick T. Drury
Frederick Thomas Drury, 66, of Grand Junction, Colo., formerly of Crested Butte, Colo., died May 22, 2000, in Port San Luis, Calif.

Mr. Drury was born May 6, 1934, in Berryville, the son of Percy R. and Eleanor von E. Orr Drury.

He had retired from Drury Die Cutting and Pyramid Printing Co.

He was a graduate of Clarke County High School and Emory and Henry College.

He married Lydia Hassig on Jan. 8, 1987.

Surviving with his wife, are two sisters, Laura Drury of Hampton and Josephine D. Ramsburg of Berryville; four stepchildren, Lorene Hassig of Grand Junction, Jim Hassig of Denver, and Troy Hassig and Curtis Hassig, both of Ogden, Utah.; and five step grandchildren.

A memorial service was May 27, 2000, in First Baptist Church, Grand Junction.

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. Canon Dwight L. Brown officiating.

Bethany Jackson
Bethany Jackson, infant daughter of Eric Wayne and Tammy Dee Erb Jackson of Winchester, died Friday, June 2, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Surviving with her parents, are a sister, Cara Jackson, at home; two brothers, Rueben Jackson and Joseph Jackson, both at home; her maternal grandparents, Wayne L. and Deborah A. Erb of Spring Grove, Pa.; her maternal great-grandparents, George and Alice Mae Erb of Hanover, Pa., and Kenneth R. and Ruby E. Stevens of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and her paternal grandparents, Joe and Barbara Jackson of Sutton, W.Va.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holiness Church of Jesus Christ, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. John W. Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of the service at the church.

Evelyn M. Miller
Evelyn May Miller 84, of Fairview Avenue, Winchester, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Miller was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Kearneysville, W.Va., the daughter of James May and Nellie LeMaster May.

She was a production worker for Doubleday Co. in Berryville and retired Jan. 9, 1980.

She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

She married Ray Miller on Oct. 2, 1948, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Miller died July 19, 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Mona Lee Unger of Winchester; a sister, Frances Stanley of Kearneysville, W.Va.; a brother, Donald Hammond of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A daughter, Barbara Typinski, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home, with Dr. Ewart H. Wyle Jr. and the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Pallbearers will be Meredith Boyd, Jack Drumheller Sr., Terry Hudson, Robert Sutphin, Robert Whitacre, and Reggie Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William L. Shackelford
William Leslie Shackelford, 36, of 100 Idylwood Drive, Winchester, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in Loudoun County.

Mr. Shackelford was born Dec. 12, 1963, in Fairfax, the son of Newman Lee and Caroline Muchler Shackelford.

He was a truck driver for J.O. Jett.

He was a member of Centreville Moose Lodge 2168 and American Legion Post 177.

He married Amy Lynn Shackelford on July 11, 1998, in Vienna.

Surviving with his wife, and his parents, of Fairfax, are a daughter, Krystle Weber at home; a son, Robert Keplinger at home; a sister, Brenda Butler of Leesburg; and a brother, Jerry Shackelford of Broad Run.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Robert M. Throckmorton Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lucy C. Bame
Lucy Carper Bame, 89, of 813 Kinzel Drive, Winchester, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Bame was born June 18, 1910, in Frederick County, the daughter of Douglas and Ethel Rhodiffer McCoy. She was a sales person at Leggett Department Store and retired in 1975 after 19 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the AARP, Stephenson Social Club, Stonewall Ruritan Club, and Winchester Civic League.

She married Fred H. Bame on Aug. 19, 1978, in White Post. Mr. Bame died Nov. 4, 1992.

Her first husband, John L. Carper, died in 1973.

Surviving are a daughter, Dougie Carper Brumback of White Post; two stepdaughters, Anita Derflinger of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Jan Smith of Winchester; a stepson, Allen Bame of Blacksburg; three grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Omps Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Delbert Combs, George Travers, Richard Haymaker Sr., Malcolm Brumback, Gary Smith, and Robert Dever.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Frances I. See
Frances I. “Ray” See, 73, of 905 Opequon Ave., Winchester, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. See was born May 24, 1927, in Teachey, N.C., the daughter of John Sherman and Martha Mathis Williams.

She was retired as a nursing aide in the state of New York.

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was married to Charles A. See.

Surviving are three sons, C. William See of San Diego, Harold See of Winchester, and R. Sherman See of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Charlotte Rivera of Middletown, N.Y., and Sharon See of Reston; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, Richard Greenhoward, is deceased.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, with Elder Phillip Dyett officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cartwright Funeral Home.

Harold M. Crowell
Harold “Shakey” Malcolm Crowell, 85, of 301 Josephine St., Apt. 7, Berryville, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mr. Crowell was born Dec. 22, 1914, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, the son of Hartley and Ida Roberts Crowell. He was a locksmith and a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Grand Lodge 59, of Iowa, AF&AM, and a life member of the VFW in Newton, Iowa. He was a clown for the Shriners.

His wife, Ruth Crowell, is deceased.

Surviving are a son, John Crowell of Bend, Ore.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A daughter, Virginia Crowell, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church, Berryville, with the Rev. Harvey Warnick officiating.

Memorials may be made to John H. Enders Fire & Rescue, 9 S. Buckmash St., Berryville 22611.

Virginia R. Grove
Virginia R. Grove, 72, of Winchester, died Monday, June 5, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Grove was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Boyce, the daughter of John D. and Willie V. Loveless Riley. She was retired as a cabinet maker for American Woodmark in Winchester.

She was married to Charles R. Grove, who died Nov. 20, 1971.

Surviving are three sons, Alexander DeHaven Jr., Carroll W. DeHaven, and Bobby DeHaven, all of Winchester; five brothers, Morris E. Riley of Romney, W.Va., Lester H. Riley, Richard Riley, and William Riley, all of Middletown, and Noah D. Riley; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home.
