Janie B. Mack, 76, of 368 Valley Mill Road, Winchester, died Friday, May 12, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Mack was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Orangeburg, S.C., the daughter of Cleveland and Annie Culler Baker. She was a retired private duty nurse.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in New York.
She was married to Clarence Mack.
Surviving are a daughter, Valenthia Mack of Winchester; a sister, Joanne Middleton of Bronx, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at noon Friday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with Pastor Gilbert M. Mack Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Charles “Buster” Jackson Community Cemetery, White Post.

Mary S. Ruble
Mary Smith Ruble, 73, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Mrs. Ruble was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Martinsburg, W.Va., the daughter of Jewitt M. and Hulda Hudson Smith. She worked in central supply at Winchester Medical Center and was retired.
She was a member of Bunker Hill Brethren in Christ Church.
She was married to Lawrence G. Ruble.
Surviving with her husband, are a son, Tull Ruble of Bunker Hill; three daughters, Mary E. Medina and Laureen Rogers, both of Bunker Hill, and Rebecca Early of Columbus, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
A son, Harold T. Ruble, and a daughter, Kelly L. Ruble, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bunker Hill Brethren in Christ Church, with the Rev. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will be in Paynes Chapel Church Cemetery.

Isabella F. Yeakley
Isabella Fahnestock Haines Yeakley, 95, of 146 Margaret Lane, Winchester, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Yeakley was born Dec. 24, 1904, the daughter of the Rev. Cephas Fahnestock and Edith Ebersole Fahnestock.
She was a seamstress and self-employed.
She was a member of Calvary Church of the Brethren, where her father was minister, and Women of the Church Fellowship. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, AARP, the Northern Frederick County Club, and the Senior Citizens Club. She attended Bryarly Elementary School and Handley High School.
Her first husband, Robert W. Haines, died on Nov. 12, 1956. Her second husband, George T. Yeakley, died on March 10, 1984.
Surviving are a son, Marcus V. Haines of Frederick County; two daughters, Imogene A. Baker of Frederick County and Janet L. Haines of Winchester; four half sisters, Mary Lowery of Winchester, Margaret Childs, Dorothy Carper, and Betty Hardesty, all of Frederick County; five half brothers, Randolph Fahnestock, Robert J. Fahnestock, and David A. Fahnestock, all of Frederick County, Paul H. Fahnestock Winchester, and Reuben T. Fahnestock of Luray; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ronald L. Friestad
Ronald Lee Friestad, 58, of 114 Hawthorne Drive, Winchester, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Friestad was born April 20, 1942, in Bismark, N.D., the son of Mabel Feigum Friestad and Juel Friestad. He was the director of the information management office for the Army Corps of Engineers. He was of the Lutheran faith and a member of Winchester Moose Lodge No. 1283, Elks Lodge BPOE No. 867, the Terrace Club, the Society of American Military Engineers, the Army Corps of Engineers Golf League, Stonebrook Tennis League, and was a licensed private pilot. He was a graduate of the University of North Dakota and held a master’s degree from the University of Illinois.
He married Pamela Ferguson on Nov. 15, 1980, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife and his mother of Kintyre, N.D., are five daughters, Kristi Grabenstein and Kara Hopkins, both of Elizabeth, Colo., Brenda Friestad of Omaha, Neb., and Julie Boulais and Stephanie Anderson, both of Winchester; a sister Judy Woods of Omaha; three brothers, Dennis Friestad of Valley City, N.D., Soren Friestad of Eldridge, N.D., and Douglas Friestad of Kintyre; and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home with the Rev. Susan Buchanan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Mark D. Lamb, 44, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Mr. Lamb was born May 10, 1956, in Weston, W.Va., the son of James R. and Mary Anne John Lamb. He was employed as an engineer/technician with the Army Corps of Engineers in Frederick County. He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, Inwood, W.Va., and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Weston.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Karp Lamb; his parents of Weston; a son, Drew N. Lamb; a daughter, Brittany C. Lamb; and a sister, Anna Beth Lamb of Chillicothe, Ohio.
A funeral will be at noon Thursday at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston, with the Rev. Brian Shoda officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Weston.

Robert W. Sadosky
Robert W. Sadosky, 66, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church.
Mr. Sadosky was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Wendel, Pa., the son of William and Katherine Jurcevich Sadosky. He was a member of Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs, and was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He was a retired geologist with U.S. Silica, Berkeley Springs, and had served with the Army Signal Corps. He was a member of the Shirley Farms Association Board of Directors, the Humane Society of Morgan County, and was active with the Morgan County Library. Mr. Sadosky was an antique collector and dealer, specializing in Pennsylvania American Country painted furniture and Flo-Blue china and contributed to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Md.
He was married to Elizabeth Ann Kowalewski. Mrs. Sadosky died on March 24, 1995.
Surviving are two aunts, Helen Crown of Springdale, Pa., and Betty DuCarme of San Diego and two uncles, Dr. Robert Miller of McKeesport, Pa., and Frank Jurcevich of Pittsburgh.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. John S. Ledford officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Cheswick, Pa.

Joseph W. Rush
Joseph William Rush, 92, of 2527 Wilson Blvd., Winchester, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Rush was born March 15, 1908, in Edinburg, the son of Jacob P. and Bessie Bailey Rush. He was a retired painter for Lewis Barley in Winchester. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant with the Army’s Company I, 116th Infantry, 29th Division.
He married Mary Edith Speelman on Oct. 19, 1935, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are three sisters, Mary Thompson and Larue Silcott, both of Edinburg, and Lena Ritenour of Woodstock.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shenandoah Memorial Park with the Rev. David Byer officiating.

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, 74, of Romney, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine, Fla.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 28, 1925, in St. Augustine, the daughter of Raleigh S. and Ruby Norton Masters.
She and her husband owned and operated the Alpine Theatre in Romney for 17 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Romney.
She was married to W. Roy “Mike” Smith for 55 years.
Surviving with her husband, are a son, Michael S. Smith of Romney; a daughter, Ann Marie Pursel of Winchester; two brothers, Raleigh S. Masters Jr. of Margate, Fla., and Daniel S. Masters of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five sisters, Geraldine Hurd of Lakeworth, Fla., Patricia Whitfield and Diane Cooper, both of Romney, Mercedes Ours of St. Augustine, and Linda Miller of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

William C. King Sr.
William Charles King Sr., 69, of 40 Kingsbury Lane, Berryville, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. King was born Aug. 24, 1930, in New York City the son of William Francis King and Cathryn King. He was vice president and director of Motorola with 38 years of service. He served as an Air Force lieutenant in France from 1953 to 1955 and was a member of Crums United Methodist Church, the Clarke County Ruritan Club (where he was a past president), and Chantilly National Golf and Country Club.
He married Jean Stitz on July 17, 1965, in Larchmont, N.Y.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, William C. King Jr. and Christopher S. King, both of Leesburg, and Joseph D. King of Fairfax; a brother, Charles F. King of Lawrenceville, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Myrtle Wright Crabill, 93, of 216 Green Acre Drive, Strasburg, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Crabill was born May 6, 1907, in Caroline County, the daughter of Robert Lee and Gracie Wright. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, graduated from Sparta High School in 1924, and attended Fredericksburg State Teachers College. She taught at Strasburg Graded School and retired from Shenandoah Publishing House, Strasburg.
She was married to Frank Hickerson Crabill.
Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Crabill Marshall of Richmond; a son, Larry Hickerson Crabill of Staunton; a sister, Peggy Kirks of Richmond; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Clinton Blair “Clint” Brooks, 67, of HC 71, Box 67, Augusta, W.Va., died Saturday, May 13, 2000 at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Brooks was born Nov. 24, 1932, in Capon Bridge, W.Va., the son of Ernest H. and Hazel Slonaker Brooks.
He worked for 36 years at O’Sullivan Corp. in Winchester. He also worked for Food Lion in Romney, W.Va. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Delray Christian Church, Delray, W.Va.
He was married to Helen Mantz, who died March 26, 1995, and Victoria Snowden, whom he married on April 18, 1998, in Delray.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Donna Brooks of Columbus, Ohio; a step-son, Kenneth Brooks of Winchester; two step-daughters, Dawn Robinson and Tracy Robertson, both of Augusta, W.Va.; and two step-grandsons.

She was a member of the Winchester Church of God.
She married Allen H. Carter on March 7, 1957, in Woodstock.
Surviving with her husband are a son, Arthur D. Pugh of Winchester; a sister, Anna Welsh of Stephens City; and three brothers, Staller R. Miller of Winchester, Robert A. Miller of Stephens City, and Douglas L. Miller of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Jean Lanctot, 62, of HC 63, Box 2430, Romney, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Lanctot was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Mallory, W.Va., the daughter of Basil E. and Virginia Smith Cook. She was a member of Romney Senior Citizens.
She married Edward E. Lanctot on Aug. 28, 1964, in Arlington. Mr. Lanctot died March 15, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Edward E. Lanctot Jr. of Vienna, W.Va.; a daughter, Candice L. Dodrill of Nashville, N.C.; a brother, William Robert Cook of Fairfax Station; and a sister, Linda Campbell of Stephens City.
A daughter, Genia Lanctot, is deceased.

Mary Louise Frederick Hinds, 68, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Hinds was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., the daughter of Charles E. and Mary E. Fleece Frederick.
She was a child care provider and a member of Peoples Assembly of God in Great Cacapon.
She had attended North Berkeley School, Berkeley Springs.
She was married to Charles Edward Hinds for 49 years.
Surviving with her husband, are two daughters, Carolyn S. Kyne of Berkeley Springs and Elania L. Swindell of Needmore, Pa.; two sons, Charles Edward Hinds Jr. of Berkeley Springs and Larry W. Hinds of Great Cacapon; a sister, Julia M. Coleman of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Charles Lloyd Frederick of Falling Waters, W.Va., and William Sylvester Frederick of Berkeley Springs; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Deborah Lynn Hinds, is deceased.

R. Lee Taylor
R. Lee Taylor, who was associated with Winchester’s Glen Burnie for 48 years, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, following surgery at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Taylor was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Fayetteville, Tenn.
He entered the Army Air Corps after graduating from high school. He served during World War II, with the rank of staff sergeant, and participated in the Normandy landing.
He came to Winchester in 1952 at the request of his good friend, Julian Wood Glass Jr., to manage the restoration of the Glass ancestral home, Glen Burnie. He was curator there until 1998. He was curator of the gardens of the new Glass-Glen Burnie Museum at the time of his death and was responsible for developing the 25 acres of formal gardens.
He was a member of the Winchester-Frederick County Historic Resources Advisory Board and member and chair of the Winchester Tree Commission from 1981 to 1988. He was a board member of Belle Grove Plantation and received a special award for service in 1992. He received the Caroll Henkel Award in 1988 from Preservation of Historic Winchester and served on the Community History Advisory Board of Shenandoah University.
His horticultural accomplishments were acknowledged by the Garden Club of Virginia with the Elizabeth Cabell Dugdale Award in 1998. He was elected as an honorary member of the Little Garden Club and Winchester- Clarke Garden Club.
He was nationally known as a creator of miniature houses. His work has been featured in Nutshell News and Treasures in Miniature. He bequeathed his collection of more than one dozen miniature houses to the Glass-Glen Burnie Museum.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Glen Burnie Gardens.

Edith Kelly Borden, 80, of Richmond, formerly of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at University Park Nursing Home.
Mrs. Borden was born March 11, 1920, in Newport News, the daughter of Robert Lee and Lola May Kelly.
She was a graduate of William Byrd High School and retired from Rockingham National Bank.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She was married to Richard F. “Dick” Borden.
Surviving are two brothers, Robert Lee Kelly Jr. of Abingdon and James Edward Kelly of Richmond.
