Lester E. Coffman
Lester Earl Coffman, 77, of 71 Point Drive, Petersburg, W.Va., formerly of Wardensville, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Mr. Coffman was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Old Fields, W.Va., the son of James E. and Clara Ann Hartman Coffman. He worked for 30 years as an auto repairman. He retired from Reymann Memorial Farms in Wardensville and Wardensville Town Park.
He was an Army veteran of World War II .
He was a member of Faith Mission Church in Wardensville and a lifetime member of Wardensville VFW Post 2102.
He married Pauline Jenkins on Jan. 10, 1948, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Douglas W. Coffman of Baker, W.Va., and Michael A. Coffman of Wardensville; a daughter, Beverly Hahn of Wardensville; and five grandchildren.
A son, Freddie Lee Coffman, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Mission Church, Wardensville, with Pastor David Garns officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lou Gibbs, Lyndell Heishman, Red Funkhouser, John Byrd, Steve Rudolph, and Woodrow Walker.

Rev. John B. Hale
The Rev. John B. Hale, 88, of 19 Josephine St., Berryville, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Rose Hill Nursing Home, Berryville.
Mr. Hale was born Aug. 13, 1911, in White Post, the son of William and Maggie Turner Hale. He was retired from the former Doubleday Co. in Berryville. He was the former pastor of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Lewisville, St. Paul Baptist Church in Happy Creek, and Ebenezer Baptist Church in White Post.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, American Legion Post 174 of Front Royal, and Shenandoah Masonic Lodge 325.
He was married to Gussie Howard for 65 years.
Surviving with his wife, is a sister, Survilla Hale of Mt. Clair, N.J.
A funeral will be at noon Saturday in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, White Post, with the Rev. Gary Doleman officiating. Burial will be in Charles “Buster” Jackson Community Cemetery, White Post. Military honors will be presented by Winchester VFW Post 2123.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Roger R. Huffman
Roger Raymond Huffman, 83, of Cedarville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Huffman was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Seven Fountains, the son of George and Rose Maye Combs Huffman. He was a mechanic and owned and operated Huffman Repair and Grocer in Cedarville. He retired from FMC Corp. after 28 years and had worked for the Civil Service for five years.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Front Royal.
He and his wife, Ethel Lou Huffman, were married 52 years.
Surviving with his wife, are a daughter, Patricia Ann Neff of Edinburg; two sisters, Louise Stoneburner and Hilda Shillingburg, both of Woodstock; and a grandson.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Robert Whetzel and the Rev. Diane Whetzel officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.

Elizabeth A. “Tizzie” Johnson, 79, of 27 S. Cameron St., Winchester, died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Miss Johnson was born June 8, 1920, in Gerrardstown, W.Va., the daughter of Gold A. and Delia H. Robinson Johnson. She was a member of John Wesley Community Christian Church, Clearbrook.
Surviving are five sisters, Cecelia Brown, Lena Cook, and Olive Brown, all of Winchester, Faye Hatch of Phoenix, and Dora McNeil of Beltsville, Md.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at John Wesley Community Christian Church, Clearbrook, with the Rev. Al Ford officiating. Burial will be in Orrick Cemetery, Winchester.

Norman J. Kibler
Norman Josiah Kibler, 83, of 33321 Old Valley Pike, Strasburg, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in Skyline Terrace Nursing Home, Woodstock.
Mr. Kibler was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Shenandoah County, the son of Arthur Benton and Bertha Foltz Kibler Miller. He was retired from T&E Repair Inc. in Strasburg.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Virginia Archaeological Society.
He was married to Martha Lou Dyke.
Surviving are three daughters, Suzanne Kibler Arthur of Strasburg, Kay Kibler Borden of York, Pa., and Kathryn Kibler Snead of Westerville, Ohio; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. William H. Hall II officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Church Cemetery.

Norman E. Weddle
Norman Edgar Weddle, 56, of HC-63, Box 2120, Shanks, W.Va., died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Weddle was born May 28, 1943, in Floyd County, the son of Luther Norman and Iva Oneida Harmon Weddle. He retired after 32 years as a postal worker in Gaithersburg, Md.
He was a Vietnam veteran.
He married Myra Teaford on March 27, 1999, in Romney, W.Va.
Surviving with his wife, are a son, Christopher Thomas Weddle of Mt. Airy, Md.; a daughter, Jodi Beth Stanton of Germantown, Md.; a stepson, Daniel Nealis of Shanks; a stepdaughter, Nicole Nealis of Shanks; two sisters, Frances Louise McDaniel of Nebo, N.C., and Norma Jean Weddle of Frederick, Md.; two brothers, Arvin Weddle of Winchester and Melvin Ronald Weddle of Monrovia, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Augusta Church of Christ, with the Rev. Richard Longbon officiating. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery.

Edna Y. Burton
Edna Y. Burton, 100, formerly of Gainesboro, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Burton was born Aug. 17, 1899, in Wadesville, Clarke County, the daughter of Arthur Ripley Carter and Ella Virginia Carter.
She was self-employed with the Better Brushes Co. and had been a telephone operator for C&P Telephone Co. in Stephens City.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, the Salvation Army, Zion Christian Fellowship and Full Gospel Businessman’s Fellowship.
She married Edgar Frank Burton on Oct. 18, 1972, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Burton died July 13, 1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Y. Rudolph of Stephenson; three grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, James Carter Polhamus, is deceased.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with the Rev. Ruth Crum Stotler officiating.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Rona Lee Gray
Rona Lee Gray, 57, of Beechcroft Road, Winchester, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Gray was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Cincinnati, the daughter of Evelyn O’Banion Riley.
She was manager of the Quick Stop convenience store on U.S. 50 East.
She married John F. Gray on July 11, 1964, in Cincinnati.
Surviving with her husband, and her mother, of Winchester, are a son, John F. Gray Jr. of Winchester; two daughters, Vickie L. Noble of Waldorf, Md., and Tina E. Gray of Winchester; a sister, Nancy Hodges of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mitzi Noble officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Arnold T. Sirbaugh
Arnold T. Sirbaugh, 90, of Cross Junction, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in a nursing home in Charlottesville.
Mr. Sirbaugh was the son of Howard Sirbaugh and Rebecca Parker Owens. He owned and operated a sawmill in Cross Junction for 30 years.
He was a member of Ebenezer Christian Church.
He was married to Elizabeth McQuire.
Surviving with his wife, are a daughter, Elizabeth Haggerty; and two grandchildren.

Geraldine Rose Ondrizek “Gerri” Stohl, 61, of 1890 Jordan Springs Road, Stephenson, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Stohl was born July 2, 1938, in Norvelt, Pa., the daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn Louise Bridge Ondrizek.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
She married Carl William Stohl on May 13, 1959, in Oakland, Md.
Surviving with her husband, are a daughter, Mary Beth Lind of Middleway, W.Va.; and five sons, Leonard Carl Stohl of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Ronald Francis Stohl of Clearbrook, Carl William Stohl III of Hedgesville, John Fitzgerald Stohl of Stephenson, and David Joseph Stohl of Unger, W.Va.; four sisters, Kathleen Myers of Calumet, Pa., Elaine Malnofsky of Norvelt, Pa., Evelyn Livengood of Kittaning, Pa., and Mary Pensy of Baltimore; a brother, Ronald Ondrizek of Pittsburgh; and 18 grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, 74, of Romney, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine, Fla.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 28, 1925, in St. Augustine, the daughter of Raleigh S. and Ruby Norton Masters.
She and her husband owned and operated the Alpine Theatre in Romney for 17 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Romney.
She was married to W. Roy “Mike” Smith for 55 years.
Surviving with her husband, are a son, Michael S. Smith of Romney; two brothers, Raleigh S. Masters Jr. of Margate, Fla., and Daniel S. Masters of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five sisters, Geraldine Hurd of Lakeworth, Fla., Patricia Whitfield and Diane Cooper, both of Romney, Mercedes Ours of St. Augustine, and Linda Miller of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

M. Tyson Gilpin
McGhee Tyson Gilpin, 80, of Lakeville Farm, Boyce, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Gilpin was born Sept. 26, 1919, on Kentmere Farm in Boyce, the son of Kenneth Newcomer and Isabella Tyson Gilpin.
He was a longtime breeder and owner of race horses. Since 1952, he was president of Stallions Service Bureau Inc. and sales agent for Stallion Syndications.
He was vice president and director of Coal Creek Mining and Manufacturing Co. in Knoxville.
From 1946 to 1947, he was with New York City Pell Ltd. and Burwell /Allen Import/Export. He was president of Fasig Tipton Co. from 1947 to 1952.
He was a 1933 graduate of Shenandoah Valley Military Academy and a 1938 graduate of St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H. He earned a B.A. degree from Princeton University in 1942.
He was a captain in the Army during World War II and served in Military Intelligence. He was awarded the Purple Heart and French Croix de Guerre.
He was a member of the Jockey Club. He was past president and current director of Virginia Thoroughbred Association, president of the Virginia Horseman’s Benevolent & Protective Association, and director of HBPA of Maryland and West Virginia.
He was chairman of Historic Long Branch.
He married Hortencia Mesa on Nov. 5, 1977, in Millwood.
His first wife, Catharine Mellick Gilpin, died Dec. 24, 1966.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Drew Gilpin Faust of Merion Station, Pa.; three sons, M. Tyson Gilpin Jr. of Winchester, Donald N. Gilpin of Lambertville, N.J., and Lawrence M. Gilpin of St. Helena, Calif.; two stepsons, William Heard of Derwood, Md., and Joaquin Heard of Boyce; a sister, Bettie Gilpin Petith of Rome, Italy; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Christ Church, Cunningham Chapel Parish, Millwood, with the Rev. Peter Gustin officiating. Burial will be in Old Chapel Cemetery, Millwood.

Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Roanoke, the daughter of John and Nannie Boothe Minnix.
She was a member of the Church of God in Berryville.
She was married to the Rev. James E. Jones.
Surviving with her husband, and her mother, of Roanoke, are a daughter, Darlene F. Day of Gate City; a son, Darryl W. Jones of Lebanon; a sister, Betty Jones of Concord; three brothers, John Minnix of Roanoke, Regionald Minnix of Virginia Beach, and Ralph H. Minnix of Norfolk; and four grandchildren.

Sharon W. Main Strother, 53, of 118 Highview Road, Stephenson, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Strother was born June 17, 1946, in Frederick, Md., the daughter of William R. and Miriam Routzahn Main. She was a bank teller at First Bank for seven years.
She was a member of the Methodist faith.
She married Raymond A. Strother on Sept. 17, 1977, in Winchester.
Surviving with her husband, are a daughter, Tammy Turner of Winchester; four sons, Roger Wilson of Capon Bridge, W.Va., Mike Wilson, Raymond A. Strother II, and Aaron J. Strother, all of Winchester; three sisters, Miriam B. Smith of Brunswick, Md., and Marsha L. Rhinaman of Myerville, Md., and Jacquelynn M. Witzberger of Wheeling, W.Va.; three brothers, Stanley L. Main of Hagerstown, Md., Kenneth M. Main of Keedysville, Md., and Kevin W. Main of Brunswick; and five grandchildren.
