Madeline Webster
Madeline Webster, 92, of Duncan, Okla., died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Gregston Nursing Home, Marlow, Okla.

Mrs. Webster was born Feb. 3, 1908, in Magnolia, W.Va., the daughter of John W. and Susan Spring Clark.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Duncan. She was a retired bank teller with Western Frederick Bank in Gore.

She married James W. Webster on Jan. 1, 1932, in Hancock, Md. Mr. Webster died Aug. 29, 1974.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Robinson of Duncan; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith Bible Baptist Church, Capon Bridge, W.Va., with the Rev. Fred Cutlip officiating. Burial will be in Capon Chapel Cemetery, Capon Bridge.

Pallbearers will be John W. Robinson, Michael R. Robinson, Matthew W. Robinson, George Michael, Mitchell Shelley, and Roy Robinson Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va.

Sharon W. Strother
Sharon W. Main Strother, 53, of 118 Highview Road, Stephenson, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Strother was born June 17, 1946, in Frederick, Md., the daughter of William R. and Miriam Rontzahn Main. She was a bank teller at First Bank for seven years.

She was a member of the Methodist faith.

She married Raymond A. Strother on Sept. 17, 1977, in Winchester.

Surviving with her husband, are a daughter, Tammy Turner of Winchester; four sons, Roger Wilson of Capon Bridge, W.Va., Mike Wilson, Raymond A. Strother II, and Aaron J. Strother, all of Winchester; three sisters, Miriam B. Smith of Brunswick, Md., and Marsha L. Rhinaman of Myerville, Md., and Jacque Lynn A. Witzberger of Wheeling, W.Va.; three brothers, Stanley L. Main of Hagerstown, Md., Kenneth M. Main of Keedysville, Md., and Kevin M. Main of Brunswick; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, with the Rev. Parker Hinzman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald L. Strother, Kenneth L. Strother, Mark Bassett, Roger Rhinaman, Charles Smith, Larry Witzberger, Robert Hewitt, and Terry Funkhouser.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bernard J. Walker
Bernard Joseph “Joe” Walker, 65, of Romney, W.Va., formerly of Wardensville, W.Va., died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.

Mr. Walker was born May 18, 1934, in Winchester, the son of Richard and Edna Walker. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways as a general foreman.

He had coached Hampshire County Little League for several years and was the current coach of the Hampshire County Women's Softball League.

He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church, the Romney Volunteer Fire Department, Romney Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Moose Lodge of Romney.

He was a social member of the American Legion, Hampshire Post 91, and VFW Post 1101.

He was married to Mary E. Willis for 45 years.

Surviving with his wife, are a son, Rolland Willis of Cumberland, Md.; two daughters, Billie Ann Lang of Berryville and Hope Oates of Texas; two brothers, Elzie Ball and Louis Walker, both of Winchester; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., with Pastor David Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Romney.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Romney Volunteer Fire Department.

Amos L. Bailey
Amos Loring “Buck” Bailey, 73, of Front Royal, died Friday, May 5, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mr. Bailey was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Rileyville, the son of Turner Charles and Mary M. Lansberry Bailey.

He was retired from the Warren County School Board after 33 years.

He was deputy sheriff in Warren County for 11 years and had worked for Shenandoah National Park and the Norfolk and Western Railroad Co.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a major in the Warren County Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.

Surviving with his mother, of Rileyville, are his companion, Lucy Waddey; a brother, Vernon M. Bailey of Rileyville; and six sisters, Joyce Fisher of Partlow, Jamie B. Cave, Sharon Parlett, and Phyllis Sours, all of Luray, and Nina Burns and Jeanette Cubbage of Stanley.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with Chaplain Bill Barton officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dennis W. Andrews
Dennis Wade Andrews, 32, of Front Royal, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Andrews was born Aug. 6, 1967, the son of Donald E. and Helen Virginia Knight Andrews. He was educated in Warren County schools.

Surviving are his maternal grandmother, Louise Eaton of Front Royal; and four brothers, Donald “Joe” Andrews, Ronnie Andrews, Jody Andrews, and Daniel Andrews, all of Front Royal.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick, with the Rev. Dottie J. Holden officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal.

Julio Roman
Julio Roman, 77, of Front Royal, formerly of Bogota, Columbia, and Baltimore, died Friday, May 5, 2000, in Heritage Hall Convalescent Center.

Mr. Roman was born July 20, 1922, in Colombia.

He was a violinist with the Baltimore Symphony for 23 years, and played in symphonies in Bogota, Costa Rico, Savannah, Ga., Annapolis, Md., Hagerstown, Md., and Naples, Fla.

He attended the Peabody Conservatory.

Surviving are a brother, Rodolpho Roman of Millersville, Md.; and three sisters, Lila Bernal of Randallstown, Md., Marianna Roggerio of Glen Burnie, Md., and Lucilla Alaya of Bogota.

A funeral will be at Monday in Ruddick Funeral Home, Glen Burnie. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery, Glen Burnie.

Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, is handling local arrangements.

Elizabeth T. Grove
Elizabeth Thompson Grove, 50, of Parker, Colo., died Friday, May 5, 2000, in Denver.

Miss Grove was born Nov. 16, 1949, in Winchester, the daughter of Washington Berry and Nancy McLean Beattie Grove. She worked at a gift shop, Columbine of Aspen, in Aspen, Colo.

Surviving are two brothers, John Grove of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and P. Fritts Rosenberger of Parker, Colo.

A cremation was held at Parker Crematory, Parker, Colo.

Antonio Capone
Antonio Capone, 31, of Payne Road, Winchester, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Capone was born June 15, 1968, in Afragola, Naples, Italy, the son of Giulio and Antonietta Della Bella Capone. He was owner of Giulio’s Pizzeria on Loudoun Street.

He attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Surviving with his mother, of Naples, are two sons, Tony Capone and Mike Capone, both of Winchester; a daughter, Antonietta Capone of Winchester; a sister, Maria Lanzetta of Winchester; and a brother, Mike Capone of Winchester.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Burial will be in Afragola.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Abner T. Russell
Abner Theodore Russell, 88, of Huntly, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Russell was born May 13, 1911, in Huntly, the son of James Morris Russell and Rosa Lee Nickens Russell.

He was married to Lelia Ann Jett.

Surviving are a son, Carroll S. Russell of Front Royal; four daughters, Lillian “Gert” Taylor of Front Royal, Mary L. Frye, Kesley Russell, and Helena A. Russell, all of Huntly; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Abner M. Russell and Arthur W. Russell, and a daughter, Demetrice J. Russell, are deceased.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Howard Frye officiating. Burial will be in the Russell family cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joseph T. Miller
Joseph Thomas Miller, 63, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Mr. Miller was born June 15, 1936, in Washington County, Md., the son of George Benjamin and Thelma Bell Miller. He worked at Fast Ridge Health Care System.

He had retired after 20 years as a staff sergeant with the Marine Corps. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart during his third tour.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Ed Zacharius Memorial Bowling League, and the Early Risers Duck Pin League.

He was married to Ruby Edens Burleson.

Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Joel Miller of Shippensburg, Pa., and Chad Miller of Mont Alto, Pa.; a daughter, Denise Miller of Waynesboro, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Ramona McDonald of Mt. Jackson; two brothers, George Benjamin Miller Jr. and Lee Miller, both of Waynesboro; and three sisters, Jane Row of Waynesboro, Eleanor Keller of Frederick, Md., and June Cline of Zullinger, Pa.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. William E. Merki officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, with military honors by the Veterans Combined Honor Guard of Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

William B. Daugherty Sr.
William Berry Daugherty Sr., 69, of 4342 Martinsburg Pike, Clearbrook, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Daugherty was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Hanging Rock, W.Va., the son of Harvey B. and Edna Grey Daugherty. He was retired from General Motors and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Little Capon Baptist Church, Three Churches, W.Va., and Eagles Aerie 824 of Winchester.

He married Hilda Feller on March 22, 1951, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife, are two sons, William Berry Daugherty Jr. of Clearbrook and Terry Scott Daugherty of Kernstown; two sisters, Adeline Fultz of Romney, W.Va., and Margaret “Susie” Titwiler of Augusta; and three brothers, Guiles “Bud” Daugherty of Three Churches, Robert “Coe” Daugherty of Romney, W.Va., and Leonard Daugherty of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va., with Pastor Carl Moore officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.

Pallbearers will be Paul Painter, Pat Buckley, Roger Daugherty, James Daugherty, Mark Omps, and Charles Feller.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Anita D. Baker
Anita Diffenderfer Baker, 31, of Royal Crest Drive, Martinsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 23, 1968, in Winchester, the daughter of James T. and Jeanne Hill Diffenderfer.

She married Franklin E. Baker on July 11, 1998, in Frederick, Md.

Surviving with her husband, and her mother, of Martinsburg, are a son, Dennis Diffenderfer at home; a daughter, Christine Ricketts at home; a stepson, Teddy Baker of Martinsburg; and a sister, Sabrina Diffenderfer of Martinsburg.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Harris officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Frederick County.

Pallbearers will be Levi Hunter, Dwayne Shelton, Teddy Baker, Darrell Baker, Jerry Nelson, and David Raymond.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Minnie C. Fishel
Minnie Catherine Fishel, 82 of 110 Chalmers Court, Berryville, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Fishel was born March 28, 1918, in Frederick County, the daughter of Levi and Etta Orndorff Fishel. She was a waitress for Marriott at Hot Shoppe in Silver Spring, Md.

She was married to I. Sidney Hodgson.

Surviving are three daughters, Marie Funk Duff and Mary Hiett, both of Winchester, and Patricia Jenkins of Williamson, W.Va.; a son, Martin Hodgson of Winchester; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Burrough officiating.

Memorials may be made to Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 105, Strasburg, 22657.

Amy A. Loyd
Amy Agnes Loyd, 79, of Frederick County, formerly of Purcellville, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Loyd was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Eupora, Miss., the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Fason.

She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was married to Arlie C. Loyd.

Surviving are three sons, Arvie L. Loyd of Purcellville, Hugh O. Loyd of Vista, Calif., and Harvey G. Loyd of Rosheron, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cutshall Funeral Home, Iuka, Miss. Burial will be in Harmony Hill Cemetery, Burnsville, Miss.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Cutshall Funeral Home.

George W. Cornwall
George W. Cornwall, 84, of Winchester, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Digby, Nova Scotia, the son of George B. and Harriet Metcalf Cornwall Parlee. He retired from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and moved from Washington, D.C., to Westminster-Canterbury in May 1998. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and served in the Army during World War II.

He married Irene E. Dahmer on Sept. 28, 1957.

Surviving with his wife are a sister, Bertha Pearson of Concord, N.H.; and a brother, Rae Cornwall of Stroudsburg, Pa.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, W.Va., with the Reverend Richard L. Longbon officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Katherine I. Foltz
Katherine I. Wetzel Foltz, 85, of 1016 Orchard Ave., Winchester, formerly of Mt. Jackson, died Monday, May 1, 2000, in Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester.

Mrs. Foltz was born Aug. 11, 1914, in St. Luke, the daughter of Samuel Huffman and Flora Della Miller Wetzel.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Jackson.

She was married to Edgar Moorman Foltz.

Surviving are three sons, Grover B. Foltz of Winchester, Chet Foltz of Mt. Jackson, and Lloyd Wetzel of Edinburg; a sister, Estaleen Armstrong of Morattico; and a brother, Wayne Wetzel of Edinburg.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. John F. Taylor Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock.

James W. Willingham
James Wilbur Willingham, 71, of 219 N. Cameron St., Winchester, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Willingham was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Clarke County, the son of Hugh Nelson and Laura Mae McDonald Willingham. He was retired from Shenandoah Apple Co. and Smalley Packaging Co.

Surviving are three brothers, Eugene Willingham and John W. Willingham, both of Berryville, and Earl Willingham of Constable, N.Y.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with Pastor Hubert L. Plummer officiating.

Lillian O. Wilson
Lillian Odelta Wilson, 75, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Mrs. Wilson was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Hampshire County, W.Va., the daughter of James Wesley and Minnie Bell Moreland McCauley.

She had worked at the Interwoven Hosiery Mill in Berkeley Springs and attended public school in Hampshire County.

She was an active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Stotlers Crossroads, W.Va., and the United Methodist Women.

She was an honorary member and volunteer with South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department and an active member of Morgan County Rescue Service Ladies Auxiliary and volunteer at its Thrift Shop.

She married Melvin C. “Jack” Wilson on July 12, 1946. Mr. Wilson died March 4, 1984.

Surviving are six nieces, Betty Ann McCauley Wentz and Della Frances McCauley Hott, both of Winchester, and both of whom had lived with Mrs. Wilson, Becky Orndorf of Winchester, Evelyn Visgatis of Port Isabel, Texas, and Sherry Griffith and Shirley Griffith, both of Fairmont, W.Va.; seven nephews, Leo McCauley, James McCauley, Ronnie McCauley, and Donald Amick, all of Winchester, and Robert Amick of Albin, Howard Griffith of Eastlake, Ohio, and Dennis Griffith of Fairmont.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, and one hour before the time of the service at the church.

Shirley M. Keister
Shirley M. Keister, 76, of Winchester, died Monday, May 1, 2000, in a local health care facility.

Miss Keister was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Harry W. and Virgie V. Wiseman Keister.

She retired in 1982 from the Potomac Electric Power Co. as a claims adjuster.

She lived in Port Richey, Fla., after her retirement and returned to Winchester in 1999.

Surviving are a sister, Mildred Littleford of Fredericksburg; and two brothers, Donald W. Keister of Cross Junction and James V. Keister of College Park, Md.

Burial will be in Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens, Elfers, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home.
