Lester B. Puffinberger Jr.
Lester B. Puffinberger Jr., 46, of Glen Burnie, Md., died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in the University of Maryland Hospital.
Mr. Puffinberger was born July 14, 1954, in Winchester. He was a delivery person with an appliance company.
Surviving are three brothers, David R. Puffinberger of Glen Burnie, Michael W. Puffinberger of Augusta, W.Va., and John M. Puffinberger of Winchester; a sister, Joyce D. Moffit of Dietreich, Ill.; and his mother, Laurie E. Puffinberger of Clearbrook.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Wright officiating.

Mildred A. Polen
Mildred “Red” Anders Polen, 77, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Mrs. Polen was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Middleway, W.Va., the daughter of Albert W. and Helen Anderson Anders.
She was married to Meredith O. Polen, who died June 3, 1992.
She retired April 1, 1989, as vice-president of the Peoples Bank of Charles Town where she had worked for 32 years. She had been a safety director at Standard Lime & Stone Co. during World War II and assistant manager at Silco Store and Whites Super Markets during the 1940’s.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Charles Town and the AARP. She was an active member and treasurer of Wayside Garden Club and a volunteer with Jefferson County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Surviving are a son, Meredith L. Polen of Charles Town; a brother, William “Bill” Anders of Charles Town; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Dr. Richard Simpson and the Rev. William Everhart officiating. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
Jean Oates
Mary Jean Oates, 73, of High View, W.Va., died Monday, March 19, 2001, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Harriet L. Kinsley
Harriet Louise Kinsley, 85, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Rippon, W.Va.
Mrs. Kinsley was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Shinaston, W.Va., the daughter of Wyatt and Lydia McDonald Roush.
She was a beautician and a graduate of the University High School in Morgantown, W.Va. She attended the Missionary Alliance Church in Morgantown.
She married Dale A. Kinsley on Sept. 29, 1946, in Morgantown.
Surviving with her husband, are a son, Charles A. Kinsley of Norfolk; a daughter, Karen E. Kinsley of Fairfax; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 8:30 p.m. today at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, with the Rev. Jack Wardrope officiating. Burial will be Wednesday in Beverly Hills Cemetery, Morgantown.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Irene V. Roles
Irene Virginia Roles, 69, of Chalmers Court, Berryville, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Roles was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Upperville, the daughter of Luther and Edna Wright Huff. She had worked in housekeeping at Rose Hill Nursing Home, Berryville.
She married William Maurice Roles on July 26, 1952, in Arcola. Mr. Roles died July 16, 1983.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Pearson of Round Hill; two sons, Donald Lee Roles of Winchester and William C. Roles of Berryville; and six grandchildren.
A daughter, Betty Jean Roles, and a son, Billy Gene Roles, are deceased.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. Harvey L. Warnick officiating.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Pearson, Sammy Brown, Jimmy Barnett, Ray Roles, Chad Thiem, and Warren Brown.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.
Ella J. Hodge
Ella Johnson Hodge, 95, of 109 Mulberry Circle, Stephens City, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Hodge was born May 7, 1905, in Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of James and Ann Johnson Cox.
She was a member of the United Church of Canada in Truro, Nova Scotia, and the Rebeka Lodge Order of Odd Fellows in Nova Scotia.
She attended Opequon Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker.
She married Herbert R. Hodge in 1930 in Truro. Mr. Hodge died March 29, 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, Norma Horsburgh of Stephens City; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be in Nova Scotia at a later date.

Mary K. Harmison
Mary Kathryn Heiskell Harmison, 71, of Stephens City, died Sunday March 18, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Harmison was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Paw Paw, W.Va., the daughter of Melvin and Antoinette Lamberth Heiskell.
She retired in 1984 after 19 years as an elementary school teacher in Lexington. She had taught in Williamsburg and Berryville.
She was a graduate of Ridgeley High School and earned a BA degree from Shepherd College.
She was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and the March of Dimes. She was a member of the National Education Association and Sigma, Sigma, Sigma sorority. She was an active supporter of football programs at many colleges and high schools where her husband coached, including James Wood High School.
She married Richard F. “Dick” Harmison on June 21, 1951, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving with her husband, are a daughter, Deborah Byrne of Norfolk; a son, Mark C. Harmison of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

Katie Belle Anthony, 89, of 124 Meadow Brooke Place, Winchester, died Friday, March 16, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Anthony was born June 22, 1911, in Winchester, the daughter of Edward and Mary Elizabeth Washington. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Winchester Memorial Hospital and was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Winchester.
She was married to Robert Anthony.
Surviving are a son, George Irving Anthony of Winchester; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cartwright Funeral Home, with Elder Melvin Cooley officiating.

Leatha D. Norvell
Leatha Dove Norvell, 99, of Berryville Pike, Winchester, died Friday, March 16, 2001, in a local nursing home.
Ms. Norvell was born Aug. 16, 1901, in Buchannon, W.Va., the daughter of Edgar W. and Ida Hiner Norvell. She had retired as a secretary and bookkeeper for National Steel Corp. in Buchannon.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Salvation Army.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Buchannon, with the Rev. Robert Poling officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester.

Gilbert S. Clem
Gilbert Sylvester “Gib” Clem, 70, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Clem was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Morgan County, W.Va., the son of Walter Leslie and Elsie Emmalea Kyne Clem. He was retired as a machinist with Rayloc Industries, Hancock, Md.
He attended Berkeley Springs Grade School and was of the Protestant faith.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs.
He was married to Mary Agnes Caldwell Coffman, who died in 1987.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Carol Ann Fleece of Berkeley Springs and Eleanor M. Yost of Jonestown, Pa.; a stepson, George E. Coffman of Clear Spring, Md.; five sisters, Marie M. Albanese, Mary Lea Clem, and Evelyn V. Sowers, all of Berkeley Springs, Teresa I. Wilkinson of Clear Spring, and Stella L. Oden of Mercersburg, Pa.; a brother, Walter J. Clem of New Castle; and seven step-grandchildren.

Herman Osborn Lee, 77, of 380 Millwood Ave., Winchester, died Friday, March 16, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Lee was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Clarke County, the son of John and Rena Headley Lee. He was a retired farmer and orchard worker and was employed by Voyne Omps.
He was a member of Brucetown United Methodist Church.
Surviving is a sister, Elsie Lee of Winchester.
