Ella V. Myers
Ella V. Myers, 79, formerly of Liberty Street, Winchester, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Miss Myers was born June 7, 1920, in Winchester, the daughter of Virginia Myers. She was a former member of the Jolly Poodles Club.

She was cared for by her godson, Donald Lee Finley, of Winchester.

Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Moten of Florida; and a brother, Ronald Moten, of St. Paul, Minn.

A funeral will be at noon Thursday at Cartwright Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. A private inurnment will be Saturday in Orrick Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour before the time of the service at the funeral home.

Allen Lee St. Clair
Allen Lee St. Clair, 34, of Front Royal, formerly of Elkton, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, as a result of a pedestrian accident.

Mr. St. Clair was born Nov. 23, 1965, in Harrisonburg, the son of Lee St. Clair and Diane Conley St. Claire Taylor.

He worked for Brill Landscaping in Front Royal.

He and his wife, Shirley St. Clair, were married July 6, 1998.

Surviving with his wife, and his mother, of Elkton, are his stepfather, Donnie E. Taylor of Elkton; four brothers, Lenson Lee St. Clair and Justin St. Clair, both of Elkton, Donnie St. Clair of Manassas, and Nelson St. Clair Jr. of Grottoes; and two sisters, Tracy Cushman of Penn Laird and Patsy Shifflett of Harrisonburg.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home, Elkton Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Hensley officiating. Burial will be in Elk Run Cemetery, Elkton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Ruth L. Dennison
Ruth Lydia Dennison, 89, of Woodbridge, formerly of Front Royal, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in Birmingham Green Nursing Home, Manassas.

Mrs. Dennison was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Braxton County, W.Va., the daughter of Cleo Patra Jackson and Patrick Walker Barnett.

She was retired from FMC in Front Royal after 30 years.

She was a member of the Dale City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Woodbridge.

Surviving are two sons, Ritchie D. Dennison and Ralph E. Dennison Jr., both of Woodbridge; three brothers, William Preston Barnett of Baltimore, Charles Barnett of Indiana, and James Eldridge Barnett of Texas; two sisters, Marjorie Evilee Yates of Pennsylvania and Betty Marilyn Lazenby of Clarksburg, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with Elder Raymond Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.

Pallbearers will be Thomas E. Wallace, James T. McMinis, Kenneth Myers, Richard Ferguson, Terry W. Licklider, and Giles H. Licklider.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Violet C. Bishop
Violet Catherine Hattie Vanorsdale Carbaugh Bishop, 68, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

Mrs. Bishop was born April 20, 1931, in Morgan County, the daughter of Clarence and Martha Alice Farris Vanorsdale.

She attended public schools in Great Cacapon, W.Va., and was a member of the Protestant faith.

She was married to Herman R. Bishop. Her first husband was Tobias Carbaugh.

Surviving are two sons, William Oscar Carbaugh and Edward Bernard Ray Carbaugh, both of Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren; four stepchildren; numerous step- grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Hennis Fox and the Rev. William C. Swope officiating. Burial will be in Sporhs Crossroads Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Russell B. Noakes Sr.
Russell Benjamin Noakes Sr., 65, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in Jacksonville.

Mr. Noakes was born June 17, 1934, in Winchester, the son of Ida Rose Jenkins Noakes and Clarence Dudley Noakes.

He was married to Barbara Ann Overton.

Surviving with his wife, are five children, Rose Marie Noakes, Virginia Anna Noakes, Wendy Jean Noakes McKinney, Russell Benjamin Noakes Jr., and Jessica Rose Noakes, all of Jacksonville; two brothers, C.D. Noakes of Front Royal and Edward Noakes of Huntly; eight sisters, Doris Grove, Shirley Vaught, Nancy Lang, and Geraldine Lee, all of Front Royal, Marie Groniger of Greensboro, N.C., Mary Parker of Summerville, S.C., Margaret Mauck of Culpeper, and Elsie Kirk of Shenandoah Farms.

A funeral was Sunday in Jacksonville.

Eternity Funeral Home, Jacksonville, handled arrangements.

Lauren E. Palmer
Lauren Elizabeth Palmer, infant daughter of Gregory Scott and Tracy Leigh Webb Palmer, of Plano, Texas, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in Dallas.

She was born May 6, 1999, in Plano.

Surviving with her parents, are two brothers, Bryan Palmer and Matthew Palmer, both of Plano; her grandparents, Robert and Charlene Palmer of Winchester and Mike and Linda Webb of Birmingham, Ala.; her great-grandparents, Mary Palmer of Unionville and Marjorie Bouldin of Plano.

A funeral was Monday in St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Plano, with the Rev. Kathryn Self officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas.

Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, is handling arrangements.

Virginia C. Weir
Virginia Corbin Weir, 86, formerly of Clarke County, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at a local nursing home.

Mrs. Weir was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Rectortown, the daughter of Leslie and Elizabeth Owens. She was raised by her grandparents, John and Elizabeth Corbin.

She married Edward Wrenshaw Weir Sr. on Feb. 25, 1932, in Fauquier County. Mr. Weir died March 12, 1967.

Surviving are a son, Edward W. Weir Jr., of Winchester; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, John Richard Weir, is deceased.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. Parker Hinzman officiating.

Memorials may be made to Burnt Factory United Methodist Church, 1943 Jordan Springs Road, Stephenson 22656.

Boyd E. Jenkins
Boyd E. Jenkins, 73, of Inwood, W.Va., died Thursday, April 20, 2000, in the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mr. Jenkins was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Winchester, the son of Samuel Robert and Valley Virginia Brown Jenkins.

He was a self-employed truck driver and had retired. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Redmen’s Club in Hagerstown, Md., and the Moose Lodge in Brunswick, Md.

He was married to Joanne Miller.

Surviving with his wife, are a son, Boyd E. Jenkins Jr. of Kokomo, Ind.; two stepsons, Albert Snow of Milianland, Texas, and Ed Snow of Richmond; a daughter, Joyce Puffinberger of Inwood; a stepdaughter, Lucy Lee Snow Beasley of Charlottesville; two brothers, Robert W. Jenkins of New Kingston, Pa.; and Harland M. Jenkins of Winchester; a sister, Christine Smelser of Middletown; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center, I.C.C. Unit, Martinsburg, W.Va.

O’Dell Service
A memorial service for Ruth Andrick O’Dell, who died Sept. 16, 1997, and Robert Charles O’Dell, who died Jan. 23, 2000, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

Pete J. Smoot
Pete J. Smoot, 69, of Glaize Avenue, Winchester, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Smoot was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Rappahannock County, the son of James Henry and Carrie Rutherford Smoot. He retired from Rubbermaid Commercial Products in 1994.

He was an Air Force veteran.

He and his wife, Mary Catherine Smoot, were married Aug. 21, 1954, in Hagerstown, Md.

Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Lawrence A. Smoot of Stephens City and Mark S. Smoot of Winchester; a daughter, Pamela J. Cross of Winchester; three sisters, Caroline Evins of Milan, Ill., Patsy Carpenter of Boyce and Anna Craig of Middletown; a brother, Winfield Smoot of Frederick County; and three grandsons.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Michelle A. Uppercue
Michelle Arnold Uppercue, 46, of 3307 North Hill Court, Middletown, Md., formerly of Strasburg, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Mrs. Uppercue was born April 10, 1954, in Anchorage, Alaska, at Elmendorff Air Force Base, the daughter of Clayburn Earl Arnold and Metta Lockwood Newell Arnold. She worked with C&P Telephone Co. for 15 years.

She was married to William Uppercue.

Surviving with her husband, are her mother of Strasburg; a son, Jason Uppercue of Middletown, Md.; a daughter, Tammy Uppercue of Middletown, Md.; three stepsons, William Uppercue Jr., Daniel Uppercue, and Kenneth Uppercue, all of Middletown, Md.; a stepdaughter, Denise Gustafson of Middletown, Md.; her twin brother, Michael Alan Arnold of Strasburg; and a sister, Terry Gale Strother of Durham, N.C.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Strasburg Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Howard officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Uppercue, Martin Downey, William Isner, Col. Don Burke, Charles Mumaw, and Amos Orndorff.

Friends may call anytime at the Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

Frederick C. Wealthy
Frederick Clark “Fred” Wealthy, 86, formerly of Church Street, Middletown, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Fayetteville, N.C.

Mr. Wealthy was born March 29, 1914, in Shenandoah, the son of John C. and Mary Frances Dodson Wealthy. He was retired as supervisor with O’Sullivan Corp. and was a member of the Middletown Board of Zoning Appeals from 1986 to 1993.

He was in the Army, with the rank of T-4.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a charter member of Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.

He married Pauline V. Funkhouser on Jan. 26, 1935, in Winchester. Mrs. Wealthy died March 29, 1996.

Surviving are a daughter, Katherine W. Horner of Pinehurst, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Bell Romick and Pearl Clem of Mt. Jackson; four brothers, Calvin Wealthy and Ray Wealthy, both of Woodstock, John Wealthy Jr. of Alexandria, and Guy Wealthy of Mt. Jackson; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Brosnan and the Rev. Dr. Susan S. Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be members of the Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Main Street, Middletown 22645.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vida A. Wentzel
Vida “Jo” Arnold Wentzel, 72, of Front Royal, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Wentzel was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Cheyenne, Okla., the daughter of Vida Jackson and Ernest Arnold. She was retired from the U.S. Forest Service.

She was a member of the Humane Society and a tax volunteer with AARP.

She was married to Ralph R. Wentzel for 50 years.

Surviving with her husband are a brother, Gaylord Arnold of Yakima, Wash.; and a sister, Greta Lindstrom of Bend, Ore.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, and anytime Monday at Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Francis R. Levi
Francis Ray Levi, 66, of 102 East Main St., Apt. A3, Berryville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mr. Levi was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Berryville, the son of Ollie Marshall and Noda Marie Stickles Levi. He retired after 26 years as an electrician with Moore & Dorsey.

He was in the Army from 1958 to 1962.

He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He married Clara Sowers on Sept. 9, 1961, in Brunswick, Md.

Surviving with his wife, are a daughter, Frances Frick of Summit Point, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Doris Wingo of Greenville, S.C.; three sisters, Elizabeth Dunn of Summit Point, and Peggy Jacobs and Jane Gant, both of Winchester; and a granddaughter.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Harvey Warnick officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with military honors accorded by the Clarke County Honor Guard.

Daisy R. Wetzel
Daisey R. Wetzel, 77, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Wetzel was born June 15, 1922, in Berkeley County, W.Va., the daughter of David A. and Olla Hull Reed. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

She was married to Thomas A. Wetzel.

Surviving are a son, Douglas Wetzel of Martinsburg; a daughter, Carolyn Ross of Martinsburg; a brother, Eugene Reed of Martinsburg; a sister, Fern Dunlap of Bunker Hill; and two grandchildren.

A son, Ronald Wetzel, is deceased.

A private graveside service is planned for a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

John W. George Jr.
John W. George Jr., 76, of Edinburg, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. George was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Edinburg, the son of John W. George and Caroline Wolfe.

He retired in 1984 from the Winchester and Stephens City offices of the Virginia Department of Transportation after 33 years.

He was a member of Columbia Furnace United Methodist Church.

He and his wife, Essie W. George, were married 53 years.

Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Bill George and Allan George, both of Woodstock; two daughters, Jo Ann Wagner of Woodstock and Rita Combs of Blacksburg; three sisters, Thelma Cook of St. Luke, Flossie Bauserman of Mt. Jackson, and Anna Good of Edinburg; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Susan Alger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Combs, Mark Knott, Cooper Bowers, Lowell Coffelt, Henry Holler, Robert C. George Jr., Earl Wolverton Jr., and Bill Helsley.

Helen J. McGinnis
Helen Jean Madden McGinnis, 73, of Gifford Avenue, Morgantown, formerly of Petersburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.

Mrs. McGinnis was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Morgantown, the daughter of James and Ruth Elizabeth Taylor Madden.

She and her husband owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Petersburg for many years.

She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, all in Petersburg. She attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Morgantown.

She was married to William W. “Bill” McGinnis for 54 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Dixie Lee Alt of Winchester; four sisters, Susan Kinsell of Granville, W.Va., Roseann Clark of Morgantown, Deloris Sanders of Dellslow, W.Va., and Mary Margaret “Peggy” Allen of Maidsville, W.Va.; a brother, Donald Madden of Morgantown; three grandsons; a foster granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hastings Funeral Home, Morgantown, with the Rev. Charles Harless officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Michael A. Courtney
Michael Allen Courtney, 26, of Orion Court, Winchester, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Courtney was born Sept. 14, 1973, in Winchester, the son of Donald W. Courtney and Margaret Elliot Tabler.

He was a graduate of Clarke County High School and an inspector for Byers Engineering Co.

Surviving with his parents, are a son, Cameron Michael Courtney of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; a brother, David W. Courtney of Bunker Hill; and two sisters, Tracey A. Ashton of Winchester, and Ashley N. Courtney of Bunker Hill.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Winchester, with the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Wert, Jermaine Brooks, Chris Presgraves, Bruce Taylor, Mike Edwards, and Kendall Sloane.

The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
