Helen Lovita Moreland, 76, of Paw Paw, W.Va., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Jeffersonian Manor Nursing Home, Charles Town, W.Va.
Mrs. Moreland was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Bethel, W.Va., the daughter of Rufus and Estella Cave Largent. She worked at Newton D. Baker Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Raygold Cabinet Co. in Paw Paw.
She was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Paw Paw and Island Hill United Methodist Church, Paw Paw.
She married Gracen C. Moreland in 1961 in Winchester.
Surviving with her husband , are two brothers, Wilson Largent of Horsham, Pa., and Wayne Largent of Hagerstown, Md.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va., with the Rev. Delbert Poling officiating. Burial will be in Island Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw.

Alice M. Zellner
Alice McMichael Zellner, 97, of 97 Christopher Drive, Winchester, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Zellner was born Dec. 19, 1902, in Summit Hill, Pa., the daughter of Phillip and Jane Alice Walton McMichael. She attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Winchester.
She was married to Russell James Zellner, who died Nov. 1, 1972.
Surviving are a daughter, Mildred H. Ohl of Winchester; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Norman Zellner and Donald Grant Zellner, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 8 tonight at Omps Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ruth Crum Stotler officiating. Burial will be in Grand Army Cemetery, Summit Hill.

Tommie H. Ward
Tommie Howard Ward, 72, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Mr. Ward was born June 29, 1927, in Elkins, W.Va., the son of Russell and Ruth Chenoweth Ward.
He was a state trooper for the West Virginia State Police from Jan. 2, 1957, to Jan. 31, 1968.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School and the West Virginia State Police Academy.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the Chinese Community Forces Intervention Campaign Medal.
He was a 20-year member of the Civil Service Commission for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and a member of the Town House Restaurant Coffee Club.
He was married to Edith M. Scherrer for 52 years.
Surviving with his wife, are two daughters, Ellen Ann Johnston of Winchester and Susanne W. Brown of Charles Town; three sisters, Thelma Wilt and Mary R. Gallagher, both of Washington state, and Kathleen Gauley of Roanoke; two brothers, Russell Ward of Elkins, W.Va., and Edward Ward of Washington state; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with Father Brian Owens officiating. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Florence E. Kane
Florence Elizabeth Kane, 91, of Manassas, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas.
Miss Kane was the daughter of John J. and Julia F. Kane.
She was a member of Manassas Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary K. Harley of Winchester and Helen V. Sheperd of Cameron, W.Va.; and a brother, Harold Kane of Luray.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home, Manassas, with the Rev. Dr. Fred Swartz officiating. Burial will be in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.

Colleen E. Garrett
Colleen Elizabeth Garrett, 69, of Route 1, Box 191, Inwood, W.Va., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Garrett was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Frederick County, the daughter of Arthur and Ethel Parrill Carter. She was a retired painter and self-employed.
Surviving are two daughters, Midge Carroll of Brucetown and Diana Barnhart of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a son, Raymond Carter of Inwood, W.Va.; two sisters, Genevieve Newlin of Frederick County and Rosalee Leake of Winchester; four brothers, Alfred Carter, Bobby Carter, and Billy Carter, all of Frederick County, and Ricky Carter of Winchester; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A son, Johnny Garrett, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, with Donnie Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whitacre.

Ruth E. Orndorff
Ruth Eleanor McKinney Orndorff, 89, of 3055 Rundelic Road, Annapolis, Md., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Crofton Convalescence Nursing and Rehab Center, Crofton, Md.
Mrs. Orndorff was born June 28, 1910, in Lawrenceville, the daughter of Joseph and Maude Smith McKinney. She was retired from DQ Billingsley Co.
She was a member of Gravel Springs Lutheran Church and Eldebrook United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. She founded The Bible Class of Washington, D.C.
Surviving are two sons, O. Warren Orndorff of Annapolis, Md., and John Walls Orndorff of Star Tannery; a sister, Minnie Dolman of Portsmouth; a brother, Ervin McKinney of Brodnax; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gravel Springs Lutheran Church, Star Tannery, with the Rev. Lynn A. Bechdolt officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Springs Cemetery.

Lucy V. Horne
Lucy Violet Horne, 90, of Romney, W.Va., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Hampshire Health Care Center, Romney.
Mrs. Horne was born April 17, 1909, in Carlinville, Ill., the daughter of David and Jessie Mae Johnston Johnston.
She worked at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, and the Hampshire County Health Department.
She was a member First Baptist Church of Romney and was active in the care of the children of the church nursery.
She was married to George Raymond Horne for 68 years. Mr. Horne died May 3, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Paul R. Horne of Las Cruces, N.M.; two daughters, Christina A. Riley of Alpharetta, Ga., and Joyce H. Lee of Corvallis, Ore.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., with the Rev. Frank Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.

William B. Leake
William Beverly Leake, 58, of 98 Smallwood Road, Berryville, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Leake was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Clarke County, the son of Aubrey Haywood Leake and Gladys Virginia Zombro Leake.
Surviving with his mother, of Winchester, are his wife, Eileen Leake of Osh Kosh, Wis.; three sisters, Betty Lilly of Berryville, Norma Malone of Winchester, and Charlotte Golding of Chester; and two brothers, John Edward Leake and Melvin Leake of Berryville.

Barbara S. Quinnelly
Barbara S. Quinnelly, 62, of Winchester, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Quinnelly was born Jan. 28, 1938, in Rich Hill, Mo., the daughter of Denver E. and Erna K. Basore. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Stephens City.
She was married to Charles L. Quinnelly on Oct. 31, 1953, in Topeka, Kan.
Surviving with her husband, and her mother, of Leavenworth, Kan., are two sons, Lt. Col. Mike Quinnelly of Yorktown and Denver E. Quinnelly of Winchester; a daughter, Pam Couse of Stephens City; a brother, Boyd Basore of Coppell, Texas; and four grandchildren.
A son, Brian Quinnelly, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blackwater Baptist Church, Daleville, Miss. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Joan McDonald Hockman, 56, of 520 George St., Apt. D8, Charles Town, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Hockman was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Shenandoah County, the daughter of Lloyd Darrell and Ivy Luella Coffman McDonald. She was a caregiver and a member of Meadow Mills Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey W. Hockman of Carlisle, Pa.; two daughters, Rhonda J. Hockman of Edinburg, and Michelle E. Sargent of Wardensville, W.Va.; a brother, Martin V. McDonald of Strasburg; three sisters, Fran Van Valkenburgh of Woodstock, Donna McDonald of Strasburg, and Barbara A. Putman of Maurertown; four grandchildren; and her companion, Mickey Davis of Martinsburg, W.Va.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. Fred Mauck officiating. The family will meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m.

Carl F. “Murph” Murphy, 53, of Bluemont, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000.
Mr. Murphy was born April 6, 1946, in Washington, D.C., the son of Lawrence and Frankie Knight Murphy. He worked for the Washington Gas and Light Co. in Springfield and was a life member of the VFW in Berryville.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Murphy; three children, Holly Cullen of Raleigh, N.C., and William Murphy and Jessica Murphy, both of Auburn, Ala., and a brother, John Murphy.
A funeral will 3 p.m. Feb. 24 in Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Charles G. Orndorff
Charles G. Orndorff, 51, of Rocky Ford Road, Clearbrook, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Orndorff was born Oct. 30, 1948, in Stephens City, the son of Charles Geoffrey Orndorff and Juanita Emmons Orndorff.
He was employed by Henkel-Harris in supervision. He was a member of Little Mountain United Methodist Church, Eagle’s Club 824, and Winchester Moose Lodge No. 1283.
He married Donna DeHaven on June 9, 1972, in Hagerstown, Md.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Trenlia A. Sweeney of Winchester; a son, Sean Casey Orndorff at home; and two sisters, Sally Orndorff Loy and Vicky Lynn Murphy, both of Stephens City.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Anthony “Pete” Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be in Little Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Grace E. Jenkins
Grace Ellen Hamman Jenkins, 72, of 158 N. Muhlenberg St., Woodstock, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 1999, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Jenkins was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Strasburg, the daughter of Harvey Leondus and Indus Miller Hamman. She retired from Walton and Smoot in Woodstock in 1992 after 17 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Strasburg Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John William Jenkins; two sons John W. Jenkins III of Winchester and Thomas A. Jenkins of Woodstock; three sisters, Gladys Green of Winchester, Merle Moore of Front Royal, and Anne Evitt of Florida; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Strasburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor Carroll Brauer officiating. A meal will follow the service.

Amanda Gwin Russell, 89, of Winchester, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Russell was born Oct. 15, 1910, in Martinsburg, W.Va., the daughter of George William Snyder and Harriet I. Shade Snyder.
She retired in 1972 from American Viscose in Front Royal, where she worked in the finishing department.
She married to William Barto Russell in 1952 in Winchester.
Surviving is a son, Clinton Gwin of Belmont Shore, Calif.; four sisters, Bertha Custer, Edith Tyser, and Isabel Spitzer, all of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Mildred Neff of Stephens City; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Betty Lee Kesner Helmick, 55, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Helmick was born June 5, 1944, in Rough Run, W.Va., the daughter of Austin G. and Carrie Lee May Ketterman Kesner. She had worked for the Park Motel in Petersburg and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Petersburg.
She was married to Berkley “Buck” Helmick, who died Nov. 6, 1972.
Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Mowery of Moorefield, W.Va.; two sisters, Lucy Evans of Stephens City, and Hazel Parsons of Maysville, W.Va.; a brother, James Kesner of Dorcas, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.

Roy L. Madigan
Roy L. Madigan, 72, of Tasker Road, Stephens City, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Mr. Madigan was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Stephens City, the son of Roy S. and Margaret I. Madigan. He was purchasing agent for Valley Proteins Inc.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, with the rank of seaman 3rd class.
He married Virginia Bell on July 8, 1951, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Madigan died in 1999.
Surviving are a stepson, Lewis N. Kenney of Winchester; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with the Rev. Clarence Davis Jr. officiating.

Frayne M. Burke, of Richmond, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000.

Mrs. Burke was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years.
She was married to George W. Burke Jr.
Surviving is a daughter, Lindsay Garrison of Tennessee; a son, Geoffrey Gabbard of Canada; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.
