Mabel V. McInturff
Mabel Vermillion McInturff, 82, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.
Mrs. McInturff was born June 13, 1917, in Warren County, the daughter of John and Lola Morris Vermillion.
She was married to Geoffrey F. McInturff.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Wharton of Front Royal; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal, with the Rev. James Burke officiating.
Friends may call anytime today at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Wharton home, 413 Viscose Ave., Front Royal.
Clara A. Roberts
Clara Ann Richardson Roberts, 71, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Winchester, died Jan. 22, 2000, in Nashville.
Mrs. Roberts was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of James A. and Mildred Richardson. She was a 1947 graduate of Handley High School.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Roberts; two daughters, Jeanne Sloane and Ann Roberts Mitchell, both of Nashville; two sons, Steven Smoot and Donald Roberts Jr., both of Nashville; a brother, Jesse Richardson of Winchester; two sisters, Hazel Shanholtz of Winchester and Jane Tate of Danville; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Smoot.
A funeral was held Jan. 26 at Hermitage Funeral Home, Nashville, with Brother Mark Evans officiating. Burial was in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Cornelius D. Fincham Jr..
Cornelius “C.D.” Dillard Fincham Jr., 35, of Winchester, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Fincham was born July 13, 1964, in Culpeper, the son of Ernestine Franky Updike and Cornelius Dillard Fincham. He was a supervisor for the Coca-Cola Co.
He was married to Pamela Kay Ayers for five years.
Surviving with his wife, are a son, Randy Russell of Front Royal; a daughter, Amanda Fincham of Front Royal; a brother, William C. Fincham of Front Royal; two sisters, Deborah M. Fincham of Tucson, Ariz., and Karen J. Bane of Front Royal; and a half sister, Rosemarie Baker of Amissville.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. L.J. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sperryville Cemetery, Sperryville.
Pallbearers will be Don Bane, Ronnie Henry, Paul Cook, Woody Fletcher, Lester Wood, and David Sirk.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mae E. Whitacre
Mae Eunice Whitacre, 91, of 124 Pierce St., Manassas Park, formerly of Hampshire County, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Overlook Health Care Center, Warrenton.
Mrs. Whitacre was born June 11, 1908, in High View, W.Va., the daughter of William and Fannie Mae Jackson Grubbs. She was a member of Timber Ridge United Church of Christ in High View.
She married Caudy L. Whitacre on June 7, 1923, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Whitacre died Nov. 26, 1973.
Surviving are three sons, Delmas R. Whitacre and John C. Whitacre, both of Manassas, and Robert Donald Whitacre of Gordonsville; a daughter, Edwina M. “Dink” Peer of Manassas Park; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Leo “Buck” Whitacre, and two daughters, Winona R. Shirley and Shirley M. Shirley, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Timber Ridge Church of Christ, High View, with the Rev. Gregory R. Kenney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Peer Jr., Kevin Whitacre, Howard Smoot, Randy Smoot, William Eskridge, Erie Eskridge, and Timothy Henderson.

Lois M. Orndorff
Lois Marguerite Orndorff, 79, of Yellow Spring, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Orndorff was born June 11, 1920, in Hanover, Ill., the daughter of Wilson and Myrtle Bertsch Campbell.
She taught at a rural school near Kingsley, Iowa, for three years. She was a 1938 graduate of Kingsley High School. She earned a teachers certificate at Western Union College in 1943.
She married Winfred W. Orndorff on Dec. 9, 1951, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving with her husband, is a brother, Joe Campbell of Sioux City, Iowa.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va., with the Rev. Gregory R. Kenney officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Dorothy E. Pollard
Dorothy E. Pollard, 61, of 424 N. Kent St., Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Northern Virginia Community Hospital, Falls Church.
Mrs. Pollard was born June 4, 1938, in Clarke County, the daughter of James Russell Wood and Helen Townley. She was a nurse at Winchester Medical Center and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Boyce.
She was married to Lewis Lee Pollard.
Surviving are a son, Carl “Rudy” Pollard of Landover, Md.; four daughters, Sherry Green, Charlet Pollard, Tina Pollard, and Deloris Shabazz, all of Alexandria; two brothers, John Wood and Raymond Wood, both of Winchester; two sisters, Mary Rush and Lucille Scott, both of Winchester; and 11 grandchildren.
A son, Lewis Leroy Pollard, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cartwright Funeral Home, with the Rev. Percy Pollard officiating.

William A. Coates Sr.
William Allen “Bill” Coates Sr., 66, of Rippon, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Mr. Coates was born Aug. 10, 1933, in Loudoun County, the son of Charles Lewis and Mary Rudeford Coates. He retired in 1988 after 37 years as supervisor of the Multi-Craft Shop at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, with the rank of specialist four.
He was a member of the Episcopalian faith and Malta Masonic Lodge 80, AF&AM, Charles Town, W.Va., where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite.
He was married to Delores Penwell for 38 years.
Surviving with his wife, are five children, Kondra Barron of Rippon, James D. Coates of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., William Coates Jr. and Randolph Coates, both of Loudoun County, and Carolyn Coates of Winchester; four sisters, Audrey Barnhart of Frederick, Md., Mary Coates of North Carolina, Pauline Coates of Leesburg, and Bessie Baker of Florida; two brothers, Ralph Coates and James Coates, both of Loudoun County; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va., with the Rev. Carroll Williams and the Rev. David Wood officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Thomas W. Derflinger
Thomas W. Derflinger, 74, of Front Royal, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Derflinger was born April 14, 1925, in Front Royal, the son of Samuel O. and Helen Sibert Derflinger. He was a security guard for Central Security of Winchester and had retired as purchasing agent for Riverton Corp. after 42 years.
He was a farmer and avid outdoorsman.
He was a member of Bennett’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. Derflinger; two daughters, Jean D. Baggarly and Linda Garber, both of Front Royal; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Peg Mitchell and the Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. Entombment will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.
Pallbearers will be Boyd Baggarly Jr., Skip Garber, Charles Jenkins, Todd Garber, Ralph Murphy, Bruce Murphy, Glenn Murphy, and Bryce Alger.

Sarah L. Cooke
Sarah Louise Burns Cooke, 66, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Winchester, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Brookdale University Hospital, Brooklyn.
Mrs. Cooke was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Winchester, the daughter of Paul and Emma Smith Burns. She was a nursing education teacher at King County Hospital, Brooklyn, and had retired after 35 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Brooklyn.
Surviving are three sons, Adrian Cooke Jr. of Brooklyn, Andre Cooke of Las Vegas, Nev., and Maurice Cooke of East Orange, N.J.; a daughter, Sharon Watkins of East Orange; a sister, Millie Curry of Winchester; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

Garnett W. Levi
Garnett Williams Levi, of Berryville, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Miss Levi was born in Clarke County, the daughter of George H. and Martha Williams Levi. She was a retired school teacher. She was educated at Mary Washington College and George Washington University.
She was a sky watcher during World War II and a member of the Motor Corps under the leadership of Mrs. George Greenhalgh.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a charter member of the Junior Women's Club.
Surviving are six nephews, Dean Levi of Richmond, Patrick Joyce of Charleston, S.C., Flem Wisecarver Jr., and Gary Levi, both of Florida, Chris Levi of Winchester, and Skip Levi of Berryville; and two nieces, Page Good of Winchester and Martha Riddle of Florida.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. Canon Dwight L. Brown officiating.

Patsy S. Lineweaver
Patsy Sue Lineweaver, 44, of 80 Sanitary Lane, Toms Brook, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her home.
Ms. Lineweaver was born Aug. 22, 1955, in Wardensville, W.Va., the daughter of Cletis Dolly and Mable R. Weatherholtz. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and a caregiver at Mayfair House in Woodstock.
Surviving with her mother, of Edinburg, are her companion, Charley V. Golladay; a son, Dustan Allen Golladay of Toms Brook; a stepdaughter, Melissa May Golladay of Staunton; five sisters, Emma Jean Helsley of Edinburg, Betty A. See of Wardensville, W.Va., Alice H. Boyce of Bristol, Tenn., Linda S. Dellinger of Edinburg, and Judy K. Taylor of Toms Brook; and two step grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toms Brook, with the Rev. George R. Feldman Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Toms Brook Cemetery.

Paul Terretta
Paul Terretta, 83, of Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury.
Mr. Terretta was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Yale, the son of Sylvester A. and Mary Landa Terretta, who emigrated from Russia in 1913. He worked for Victor Products in the late 1930s formulating the cellophane valves used on the gas masks during World War II.
In 1937, he joined O’Sullivan Rubber Corp. as an engineer and worked for the company 47 years. He was named O’Sullivan’s president in 1957, a position he held until 1971. He was vice chairman of the board of directors until his retirement in 1984.
He graduated from VPI with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
Mr. Terretta was a lieutenant colonel in the Army during World War II and was battalion commander of combat engineers. He served under Gen. George S. Patton and fought in the Battle of Anzio.
He was a member of Gov. Albertus Harrison’s Resource Planning Committee in the 1960s and was named to the first Winchester Industrial Development Authority in 1967.
He was a member of the National Board of Liberty Mutual and the National Association of Boys Clubs. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Manufacturers and vice president of the Virginia Association of Manufacturers.
He married Janis Marie Mullenix on Oct. 23, 1939, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Terretta died in 1967.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Griffin of Winchester and Dorothea Brady of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Ellie Cox of Detroit; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the home of Carolyn Griffin, 205 Fairmont Ave., Winchester.
