Hattie E. Dove
Hattie Elizabeth Dove, 94, of Route 2, Box 61A, Mathias, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker, W.Va.
Mrs. Dove was born May 29, 1905, in South Fork, Moorefield, W.Va., the daughter of William A. and Sarah Sites See. She was a member of Damascus Church of the Brethren. She attended Mathias Mennonite Church.
She was married to Perry Dove, who died in 1967. Her first husband was L.B. Basye, who died in 1956.
Surviving are a son, L.B. Basye Jr. of Mathias; two daughters, Effie Eaton of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Margaret Sherman of Mathias, W.Va.; four stepdaughters, Emma Halterman of Mathias, Mildred Keplinger of Fulks Run, Melda Ritchie of Pennsylvania, and Avis Runion of Sterling ; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter is deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Mathias Mennonite Church, with Pastor Dean Williams officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mathias.
Pallbearers will be David Banks, Pete Jilinski, Eric Basye, Robert Basye, Lee Miller, and Ike Miller.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McKee Funeral Home, Baker.

Lonny Riggleman
Lonny James Riggleman, 79, of 131 Denny Lane, Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Stephens City.
Mr. Riggleman was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Bergton, the son of Ada Virginia Riggleman Smith. He was a mill worker with Forcast Furniture and retired after 22 years.
He married Lucy Catherine Combs on Jan. 19, 1949, in Lost River, W.Va. Mrs. Riggleman died Oct. 5, 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Roberson of Berryville and Elnora Poston of Winchester; and a granddaughter.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shenandoah Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, with Richard L. Fishel officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Omps Funeral Home.

Anthony W. Simonpietri
Anthony Wayne Simonpietri, 59, of Front Royal, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Simonpietri was born April 30, 1940, in Warren County, the son of Augustus Joseph and Grace Bliley Simonpietri. He was a clerk for Simonpietri’s Gift Shop and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Surviving are three brothers, Barry Simonpietri of Richmond, Don Simonpietri of Front Royal, and Chris Simonpietri of Haymarket.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. William F. Ruehl officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, where the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.
Robert D. Squier
Robert Dave Squier, 65, of the Moorings, Millwood, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Squier was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Brainerd, Minn., the son of Ralph Thomas and Lucille Jane Morris Squier. He was a political media consultant and an Army veteran.
He married Prudence Bergman on Jan. 15, 1977, in Basye.
Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Robert McNeely Squier and Mark Ralph Squier, both of Bethesda, Md.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be at a later date in the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

Harriet J. Shade
Harriet J. Shade, 103, of 11 Redwood Circle, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown.
Mrs. Shade was born April 22, 1896, in Frederick County, the daughter of Caleb Doster DeHaven and Rhoda Ellen Campbell DeHaven. She had made her home with her daughter-in-law, Dorothy J. Shade.
She married Vernon E. Shade on Sept. 9, 1920, in Winchester. Mr. Shade died in 1965.
Surviving are two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Ralph Lee Shade, and a daughter, Ellen Louise Shade, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Isaac Lee Luttrell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Shade, Brian Shade, Eric Linn, Steve Friend, Vernon Umstot, and Chancey Dorsey.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carrie W. Flowers
Carrie Watts Flowers, 100, of Sumter, S.C., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
Mrs. Flowers was born in Socastee, S.C., the daughter of George W. and Matilda Stalvey Watts. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Untied Methodist Church, a founding member of the Sumter Chapter 188 of the Eastern Star, and a member and past president of the Iris Garden Club.
She was married to Wade Hampton Flowers.
Surviving are a son, Henry S. Flowers of Winchester; two daughters, Carolyn F.N. Ramsey and Tillie F. Keer, both of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Jones and the Rev. Michael Baynai officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, Sumter, and other times at the homes of Carolyn Ramsey and Tillie Keer.

Zelda P. Fisher
Zelda P. Fisher, 82, of Stonebrook Road, Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Fisher was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Hampshire County, W.Va., the daughter of William H. and Minnie Mowery Keller. She was retied from F.M.C. Corp. and had worked in the cloth room.
She was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles Aerie 824.
She married Paul F. Fisher on July 2, 1969, in Jonesboro, Tenn. Mr. Fisher died April 29, 1986.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Tisinger of Winchester; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A son, Donald L. Largent, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Potter officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Round Hill.

Hilda C. Clowser
Hilda C. Clowser, 98, of 306 W. Whitlock Ave., Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Clowser was born May 26, 1901, in Winchester, the daughter of Claude H. Kline and Mary W. Pannett Kline.
She had been a bookkeeper for Miller’s Hardware and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
She married Maynard H. Clowser on Dec. 20, 1921, in Hagerstown, Md.
Surviving are a daughter, Colleen M. Racey of Winchester; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dennis W. Kleinmann. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.
Garnett B. Griffith
Garnett Bell Griffith, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in New Horizon Rehabilitation Center, Ocala, Fla.
Ms. Griffith was born June 30, 1925, in Berryville, the daughter of Lewis and Ethel Bell. She worked at the Philomont Store during the 1960s and 1970s. She was a member of Roszell Chapel in Philomont.
She was married to Robert Griffith. Her first husband was Nelson Ryan.
Surviving are three nieces, Joann Newbraugh of Winchester, Linda Christoferson of Gaithersburg, Md., and Garnett Weiland of Great Falls; and three nephews, Harold Van Patten of Tucson, Ariz., Ronald Bell of Parkersburg, W.Va., and David Hall of Winchester.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home, Purcellville. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Round Hill.

Felicia H. Cogan
Felicia Henderson Cogan, 67, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mrs. Cogan was born May 1, 1932, in DeQueen, Ark., the daughter of Edward C. and Marguerite Lee Henderson.
She was a cum laude graduate of Hockaday School and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Tulsa and a master of arts degree from Trinity University. She was president of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Motor Board.
She spent six years as a feature writer for the Tulsa Daily World and the San Antonio Light newspapers.
She taught five years at Southern Methodist University. She taught English at Lord Fairfax Community College from 1971 until she retired in 1997 as associate professor. She was head of the Liberal Arts Program and director of the Honors Program.
She founded the Shenandoah Valley Writers’ Guild in 1977 and was a board member for 20 years.
She was listed in the Marquis “Who’s Who Among Teachers.” She received the Master Teacher Medal from the National Community College Leadership Program and the President’s Medal of Commendation from Lord Fairfax Community College.
She was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown, where she was a lay reader and a member of the Altar Guild and Vestry. She was president of Millbrook Orchestra Auxiliary and secretary of the orchestra board. She was president of the Jefferson County Republican Women’s Club, regent of the Pack Horses Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, treasurer of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and adult leader of the Shenandoah Valley Pony Club.
She was married to Dr. Myles Cogan, who died Oct. 7, 1997.
Surviving are a daughter, Courtenay Cogan Diederich of Middletown, Md.; and three grandchildren.
A private service is planned at Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium, Shepherdstown.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the parish room of the church.

Louise Shelton Ross, 81, formerly of Woodbridge, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Annanburg Manor, Manassas.
Mrs. Ross was born June 29, 1918, in White County, Ga., the daughter of Walter and Julia Bell Shelton.
She was a retired school teacher in Fairfax County with 11 years of service. She was a member of First United Presbyterian
Church, Dale City. She was a member of the Fairfax Education Association and a library volunteer for Prince William County.
She was married to Allen M. Ross.
Surviving are a son, Murray Shelton Ross of Burke; a daughter, Julie Ross Clark of Woodbridge; a brother, Charles Shelton of Cartersville, Ga.; two sisters, Aline McEntire of Marrietta, Ga., and Virginia Chappell of Atlanta; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, by the Rev. David Howard. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Holly Ross, Ian Ross, Scott Ross, Hunter Clark, and Trevor Clark.
