James R. Swisher
James Ronald “Ronnie” Swisher, 48, of Augusta, W.Va., died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, W.Va.

Mr. Swisher was born March 27, 1952, in Cumberland, Md., the son of James E. and Marian Adams Swisher. He worked for Poly-One for 28 years.

He was a 1970 graduate of Hampshire High School and a member of the Buckler Motorsports Racing Team.

He married Brenda L. Nelson on May 30, 1998.

Surviving with his wife and his mother, of Romney, are two sons, Jeremy Swisher and Jason Swisher, both of Middletown; a stepdaughter, April Nelson of Three Churches, W.Va.; and a brother, Thomas “Tommy” Swisher of Levels, W.Va.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, with Pastor Eric Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Levels Cemetery, Levels.

Pallbearers will be Brian Buckler, Larry Sowers, Brian Sowers, Sam Hawse, Jack Riggleman, and Ronnie Harwath.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy B. Bowers
Billy Benton Beverly Bowers, 63, of 3001 3rd St., Middletown, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Bowers was born May 20, 1937, in Middletown, the son of Milton Franklin and Bertha Alice Clem Bowers. He was retired from E.R. Neff Excavating Inc. of Stephens City.

He was a member of Meadows Mills Church of the Brethren in Middletown.

He was married to Ida Catherine Mowrey.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Jerry B. Bowers of Middletown; a daughter, Judy L. Bowers of Middletown; a foster daughter, Tammy Lease of Middletown; a sister, Lola Coffman of Winchester; a brother, Robert Bowers of Charlottesville; and three foster grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. Ralph J. Burner and the Rev. Fred Mauck officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Middletown.

Pallbearers will be John Neff, Sonny Neff, Donnie King Jr., Carl Lucci, Rodney Wortman, and Robert Coffman.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James S. Brooks
James S. Brooks of Frederick County died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in a local nursing home.

A memorial service for Owen T. Foltz Jr., whose obituary was published Feb. 24, 2001, will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Jean I. Bass
Jean Inez Bass, 63, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at her home.

Roland D. Bland III
Roland D. Bland III, 10-year-old son of Roland D. Bland Jr. and Karen Polston Bland of 103 Old Dominion Drive, Winchester, died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Children’s Hospital, Washington, D.C.

He was born Aug. 26, 1990, in Winchester. He was a student at Apple Pie Ridge Elementary School.

Surviving with his parents are his maternal grandparents, Katherine Polston and Edward “Pinky” Polston of Winchester; his paternal grandparents, Dorothy Bland of Boston and Roland D. Bland Sr. of Winchester; two sisters, Keshia N. Bland and Natasha M. Bland, both of Winchester; and two brothers, Michael W. Young Jr. and Kyle L. Young, both of Washington, D.C.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cartwright Funeral Home, Winchester, with the Rev. Ralph Williams officiating. Burial will be in Charles “Buster” Jackson Community Cemetery, White Post.

Pallbearers will be Charles L. Carter, Clifton Pannell, Robert Moten Jr., Jeffery Burks, Eugene Polston Jr., and James Bland.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

William E. Michael
William E. Michael, 55, of Lakin, W.Va., formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant, W.Va.

Mr. Michael was born June 23, 1945, in Licking Creek, Pa., the son of Sarah Rutherford. He was adopted by Filmore and Marguerite Michael.

Surviving with his mother, of Berkeley Springs, and his adoptive mother, of Berkeley Springs, are four daughters, Tammy Yow of Hickery, N.C., Donna Smith and Jessica Faircloth, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Justine Yost of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Dorothy Heironimus and Patsy Miller, both of Berkeley Springs, and Nancy Harbaugh of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; four brothers, Roger Mellott of Hancock, Md., Kenneth Mason of Bunker Hill, Donald Mason of Berkeley Springs, and Arnold Mason of Cumberland, Md.; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Hennis Fox and Pastor Bob Ardinger officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Herbert C. Rudisill
Herbert C. “Herb” Rudisill, 62, of Inwood, W.Va., formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Rudisill was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Hagerstown, the son of Bruce M. “Chick” Rudisill and Doris L. “Laverne” Kaniper Rudisill. He was a sports writer and columnist for The Morning Herald from 1964 to 1973. In 1974, he joined the staff of the publicity department of Charles Town Races and was a racing writer, radio broadcaster, public relations representative, and back-up race announcer. Illness forced his early retirement in February 2001.

For the past several years, he worked as an independent race caller and chart writer of the National Steeple Chase Association Hunt Meets in Virginia.

He had formerly worked for the national racing publication The Daily Racing Form and at the Montgomery Ward store in Hagerstown, the Schmidt Baking Co. of Stephens City, and Barnhart’s Supermarket in Inwood.

He was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School and served in the Army from 1961 to 1963.

He was an active member of Darkesville United Methodist Church, Inwood. He was a long-time bowler with the Tuesday Night Duck Pin League at Pikeside Bowl, Pikeside, W.Va.

He was cofounder and activity leader of the Sulphur Springs Super Stars 4-H Club of Inwood. He was active with the Berkeley County 4-H Leaders Association and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Berkeley County 4-H Foundation. He was a West Virginia 4-H All Star and was named in 1999 as Berkeley County’s Outstanding 4-H Leader.

He was married to Kathryn “Kathy” DeHaven for 25 years.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Damon C. Rudisill of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Barrie W. Rudisill of Spring Mills, W.Va.; and a brother, Bruce M. Rudisill Jr. of Mt. Laurel, N.J.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, with the Rev. Khrista Ferguson and the Rev. Patricia Drake officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Evelyn V. James
Evelyn Virginia Robey James, 83, of Winchester, died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. James was born May 9, 1917, in Zepp, the daughter of Alona N. and Ruth E. Swartz Whittington. She worked for the Government Services Administration as a secretary and stenographer from 1935 to 1972.

She was married to Charles M. James. Her first husband was Delano Robey.

Surviving are two brothers, Stewart A. Whittington of Annandale and Murle A. Whittington of Strasburg.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1211 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 501, Washington, D.C. 20036.

Frank A. Llewellyn Sr.
Frank A. Llewellyn Sr., 71, of Augusta, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, W.Va.

Kacie N. Pritchard
Kacie Nicole Pritchard, 3-year-old daughter of Amanda M. Pritchard and Jamie N. Jett, of 7601 Main St., Middletown, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

She was born Jan. 15, 1998, in Winchester.

Surviving with her parents are her maternal grandmother, Brenda Pritchard of Middletown; her paternal grandparents, Deborah Guinn of Toms Brook and Mike Barr of Woodstock; her maternal great-grandmother, Doris Conley of Spencer, W.Va.; and her paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Barr of Mt. Olive.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. William Fitchett officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Darren Pritchard, Kenny Pritchard, Danny Pritchard, Timmy Jett, and Ronnie Jett.

Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Margaret L. Richmond
Margaret Louise Richmond, 81, of 358 S. Massanutten St., Strasburg, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Athens, Ga.

Mrs. Richmond was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Alfred and Rebecca Evans Erickson. She was a nurse at Winchester Medical Center and retired after 16 years.

She was in the Nurses Corps in the Army. She was a member of the Lutheran faith.

She was married to Ralph Wakefield Richmond.

Surviving are three sons, Eric Richmond of Shenandoah, Ralph Richmond of Williamsport, Md., and John Richmond of Edinburg; four daughters, Marilyn Braithewaite of Staunton, Betty Faragoso of Las Vegas, Barbara Richmond of Athens, and Jean Richmond of Woodstock; a sister, Doris Heap of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. James Baseler officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Richmond, Ralph Richmond, Eric Richmond, Ben Richmond, John Faragoso, and Alfred Erickson.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Joseph B. Berry
Joseph Benjamin Berry, 80, formerly of Summit Point, W.Va., died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Evergreen Health & Rehab Center, Winchester.

Mr. Berry was born May 22, 1920, in Washington, D.C., the son of Ben Forrester and Lillian Deracy Berry.

He had worked at Shade Equipment Co. in Winchester and had owned his own lawn care business.

He had attended Mt. Pleasant School in Summit Point and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was the last member of his immediate family.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Summit Point.

Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va., is handling arrangements.

Roland D. Bland III
Roland D. Bland III, 10, son of Roland D. Bland Jr. and Karen Polston Bland, of 103 Old Dominion Drive, Winchester, died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Children’s Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Charles A. Campbell Jr.
Charles Alfred Campbell Jr., 80, of Dale City, formerly of Winchester, died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Woodbridge Nursing Home.

Mr. Campbell was an accountant and had lived in Winchester from 1947 to 1968. He was past president of Winchester Lions Club and had earned an accounting degree from the University of Richmond.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise A. Campbell; four sons, Charles A. Campbell III of Fredericksburg, Thomas M. Campbell, Ray L. Campbell, and W. Bruce Campbell, all of Dale City; and a sister, Zella Payne of Durham, N.C.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Shenandoah Memorial Park Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, Dale City.
