Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Julian A. Deck
Julian A. Deck, 71, of Princeton Drive, Winchester, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Deck was born June 1, 1929, in Summit Point, W.Va., the son of John Authur and Evelyn Carper Deck. He was a salesman for Tri-Valley Tire Co. in Winchester and retired in 1990.

He was a private 1st class in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church and Winchester Moose Lodge 1283, and a past member of the Winchester Jaycees.

He married Gladys Palmer Dec. 10, 1951, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife, are a daughter, Tammy D. Snapp of Winchester; three sons, Julian C. Deck, William E. Deck, and Philip N. Deck, all of Stephens City; a sister, Edith Smallwood of Summit Point; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, with Dr. Robert Throckmorton officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

A memorial service by Winchester Moose Lodge will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Winchester-Frederick County Unit, P.O. Box 525, Winchester 22604.

Elizabeth A. Dodgins
Elizabeth Anna Dodgins, 87, of Augusta, W.Va., died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Capon Manor Care Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va.

Mrs. Dodgins was born Jan. 14, 1914, in Eseen, German, the daughter of Robert and Anna Alles Trappman.

She married James Levi Dodgins on Jan. 9, 1952, in Regensburg, Germany. Mr. Dodgins died Oct. 10, 2000. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, James Henry Fred Dodgins of Augusta and Charles Walter Dodgins of Wetherford, Texas; a daughter, Elizabeth Helen Anna Haskins of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, with Pastor Robert Jeffreys officiating. Burial will be private.

Ralph Eckerd
Ralph Eckerd, 88, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Monday, March 5, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Eckerd was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Berkeley Springs, the son of George Elmer Eckerd and Martha Ann Michael.

He retired in 1972 as foreman with the Washington Gas Co. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Berkeley Springs.

He was married to Lucy Marie Eckerd for 61 years.

Surviving with his wife is a son, Brett Allan Eckerd of Berkeley Springs.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Edwin E. Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James L. Kenney
James Lloyd Kenney, 57, of Front Royal, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mr. Kenney was born Aug. 29, 1943, in Linden, the son of Luther B. and Delma Breeden Kenney. He was a cab driver for L & C Cab of Front Royal.

He was a medical corpsman in the Army during the Vietnam War and served with the 515th Transportation Company.

He was married Donna Reamy Aug. 25, 1989.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Donald “Donnie” Kenney of Connecticut; a brother, William “Billy” Kenney of Front Royal; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. James Bunce officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Woodward, Cowboy Henry, Red Pomeroy, Bill Kenney, Bob Atkins, and Steve Heflin.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Billy B. Bowers
Billy Benton Beverly Bowers, 63, of 3001 3rd St., Middletown died Tuesday March 6, 2001, at his home.

Arrangements with Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, are incomplete.

Denver S. Shields
Denver Stephen Shields, 89, of Winchester, formerly of Romney, W.Va., died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Shields was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Cairo, W.Va., the son of William Anderson Lenna Grace Rawson Shields.

He was retired and owned Shield’s Plumbing and Heating in Romney from 1952 to 1973. He was a 1931 graduate of Dodridge City High School.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winchester and a former member of First Baptist Church of Romney.

He was married to Vauda Lee Buckbee.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Barbara Ann Pancake of Romney and Wilma Shields Comeau of Williamsburg; a sister, Lena Belle Smith of Smithburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A son, Denver S. “Denny” Shields Jr., is deceased.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, with the Rev. Frank Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Romney or to the American Heart Association.

Charles E. Householder
Charles Elwood “Buck” Householder, 72, of Underwood Lane, Winchester, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Front Royal.

Mr. Householder was born June 28, 1928, in Gore, the son of Charles Atrial and Mary Louise Ash Householder. He worked on the blacktop crew at Stuart M. Perry Co. He was a member of Winchester Church of God.

He was a member of the Winchester-Frederick County Conservation Club.

His first wife, Alice Louise Elliott, died Feb. 2, 1974.

Surviving are a son, Gene E. Householder of Winchester; two daughters, Libby Woodard of Front Royal and Cathy Angeles of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Patricia Roberts of Stephens City; two nieces and two nephews, whom he raised; and eight grandchildren.

A son, Charles Elwood Householder Jr., is deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Winchester Church of God with Dr. Darrell W. Waller officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike McKee, Dale Borror, Glen Wilder, Bruce Carter, Harold Propst, Jesse Simmons, and John Carter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, Winchester.

Memorials may be made to Winchester Church of God, 2080 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester 22603.

Reim Service
A memorial service for Minnie Evalyn Avery Reim, whose obituary was published March 3, 2001, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Winchester.

Samuel M. Graham Sr.
Samuel Monroe Graham Sr., 79, of Augusta, W.Va., died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Graham was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Pulaski, the son of Roy Amos and Julia Emma Jone Graham. He was a retired chemist and general contractor.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from V.P.I.

He was a lifelong member of Moose Lodge of Romney, W.Va., and VFW Post 1101 of Romney.

He was married to Dorla Faye Beery.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Samuel M. Graham Jr. of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Susan G. Powell of Houston and Dottie Lou Graham of Romney; a sister, Barbara G. Settle of Sanford, N.C.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A private service is planned.

McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, is handling arrangements.

Logan T. Matheson
Logan Tyler Matheson, infant son of Hillary Nichole Dovel and Brian Keith Matheson Jr., of 255 Bush Drive, Deerfield Estates, Winchester, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 26, 2001, in Winchester.

Surviving with his parents are paternal grandparents, Keith and Robin Matheson of Winchester; maternal grandparents, Maria and Oliver Crawford Jr. of Winchester, and Glenn Dovel of Front Royal; and a sister, McKinzie Matheson of Winchester.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with Dr. Ken Smith officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Daisy L. Stotler
Daisy L. Stotler, 90, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Mrs. Stotler was born May 9, 1910, in Capon Bridge, W.Va., the daughter of Carson Edward and Ada Oates Swisher.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a pianist and longtime member of the Philathea Sunday school class.

She was married to Paul L. Stotler.

Surviving are two sisters, Ruby Darlington of Winchester and Eula McCarty of Martinsburg.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with Dr. G. Edward Grove officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 220 W. Martin St., Martinsburg 25401.

Kathryn A. Orndoff
Kathryn Albaugh Orndoff, 70, of Leesburg, died Saturday, March 3, 2001.

Mrs. Orndoff was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Loudoun County, the daughter of Paul Edward and Margaret Good Bodmer Albaugh.

She was married to Hugh Orndoff.

Surviving are six children, Crystal Kurtzberg and Lorena Orndoff, both of Reston, Meridee Mucciasome of Sterling, Ward Orndoff and Paul Orndoff, both of Hartford, Conn., and Gordon Orndoff of Winchester; a brother, Paul E. Albaugh Jr. of Alexandria; and six grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Royston Funeral Home, Middleburg. Burial will be in Middleburg Memorial Cemetery.

Louise J. Christy
Louise Johanna Kelley Christy, 79, of 2911 Oranda Road, Strasburg died Saturday March 3, 2001, at her home.

She was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of James and Mary Kelley. She was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church and retired after 26 years as a civilian employee of the Department of Defense.

Surviving with her husband Michael George Christy are a daughter, Sharon Christy Nelligan, of Strasburg; a son, Michael James Christy of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Pirrone of Hyattsville, Md., and Eleanor Peed of Bowie, Md.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at John Bosco Roman Catholic Church in Woodstock. Father William Aitcheson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Stover Funeral Hime. A Rosary service will be at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 105, Strasburg 22657; or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester 22601.
