Ralph Dominick Burner, 56, of 1691 Triple J Road, Berryville, died Saturday March 3, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Falling Water, W.Va., the son of Lloyd C. Burner and Kathleen Ceravalo Jones.
He was a farmer in Clarke County.
He married Patsy Gail McDonald Burner July 12, 1967, in Frederick, Md.
Surviving with his wife are his father and stepmother, Lloyd and Louise Burner of Berryville; two sons, Raymond Dean Burner of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Michael Todd Burner of Kirby, W.Va.; three sisters, Mary Frances Crim and Nancy Shirley, both of Berryville and Cynthia Leper of Romney, W.Va.; four brothers, Richard Quinn Burner of Paw Paw, W.Va., Gary Turpin of Falling Waters, W.Va., Roger Jones and Kelvin Jones, both of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville with Pastor Leland Stone officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Knight, Kenneth Crouse, C.B. Chappell, Richard Barker, John Nelson Carr, and John Gordon.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sheila M. Grapes
Sheila M. Grapes, 58, of Romney, W.Va., died Saturday March 3, 2001, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
She was born March 28, 1942, in Picton,Ontario, the daughter of William and Winifred Dorothy Rodway Mitchell.
She was married to Paul W. Grapes who is deceased and Donald Lee Bowman who also is deceased.
She was retired as regional manager for Rainsoft in Winchester.
She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Women of the Moose Lodge 1177, and Wappocommo Post 1101 V.F.W., all in Romney.
Survivors include three sons, Reggie Christenson of Gabriola Island, British Columbia, Robert Clark of Duncan, British Columbia, and Andrew Clark of Victoria, British Columbia; three stepsons, Kenneth P. Grapes of Augusta, W.Va., and Todd Bowman and Daniel Bowman, both of Norvelt, Pa.; a daughter, Lisa A. Grapes of Miami, Fla.; four step-daughters, Arlene Leonard of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Kelley Grapes Polley of Stuarts Draft, Paula Stauf of Romney, and Jennifer Palangio of New Huningdon, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney with Father Richard D. Reece officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Edward T. Embrey
Edward T. Embrey, 77, of Berryville died Sunday March 4, 2001, in a local nursing home.
He was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Linden, the son of Clyde E. and Frances Showers Embrey.
He retired in August 1976 from F. M.C. Rayon Plant in Front Royal. He was a member of the Christian church and the National AARP.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He married Myrtle Bell Eaton in 1972 in Winchester. She died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons Stephen E. Embrey and Allen H. Embrey, both of Slanesville, W.Va.; a stepson, Garland Lonas of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Janet Baker of Capon Bridge; a sister, Azeele Gillespie of Winchester; a brother, Clyde A. Embrey of Winchester; four step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Jones Funeral Home.
Richard R. Frederick
Richard R. Frederick, 82, of Winchester died Friday March 2, 2001, at a local nursing home.
Mr. Frederick was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Allentown, Pa., the son of Robert J. and Louise Roberts Frederick.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1949 and took part in Operation Crossroads in 1946.
His law enforcement career began in 1949 with the Arlington County Police Department; was a training and management consultant for Northwestern University Traffic Institute and the International Association of Chiefs of Police; chief of police of Bedford Park, Ill., and an associate director of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Planning Agency.
He retired in 1979 as a highway safety management specialist for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the U.S. Dept. of Transportation.
He was a member of the American Legion, the National Association of Atomic Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, the Northwestern University Traffic Institute Alumni Association, and the AARP.
He attended American University, Northwestern University Traffic Institute, and University of Virginia extension classes.
Surviving with his wife, Catherine Hoyt Frederick, are a stepson, Allen Hoyt of Norwalk, Conn; a stepdaughter, Candyce Hoyt of Winchester; and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be private with burial in New Canaan, Conn.

Elizabeth M. Hannas
Elizabeth McElwee “Libby” Hannas, 91, of Romney, W.Va. died Thursday March 1, 2001, in the Hampshire Health Care Center in Romney.
She was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Romney, the daughter of Robert G. and Augusta Wright McElwee.
She was owner and operator of Libby Restaurant in Romney until her retirement.
She was a member of the Episcopal faith. She was married to Guy Hannas.
Survivors include a sister, Fannie Hott of Hagerstown, Md.; a niece; and a nephew.
Services and burial in the Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney will be private.

Deskin W. Abe Jr.
Deskin W. Abe Jr., 61, of Newark, Del., formerly of Paw Paw, W.Va., died Friday March 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Paw Paw, the son Deskin and Alma Opal Kidwell Abe.
He was a supervisor for Avon Production Plant in Newark for 32 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a truck driver for Penske and Freflow International until 2000.
He was a member of the Delaware Jaycees and Oriental Lodge I.O.O.F. in Newark.
He married Nancy Stanley in 1976.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Brenda K. Watson of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Shawna Link of Winchester; a son Brian C. Able of Sharpsburg, Md.; three stepdaughters, Gail Laughran of Wilmington, Del., Donna Brown of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jonna Pusey of West Grove, Pa.; a stepson, John Lehman Jr. of Newark; three brothers, Dennis W. Abe, Wallace V. Abe, and Keith B. Abe, all of Slanesville; three sisters, Fern Hook of Paw Paw, JoAnn Wade of Cumberland, and Phyliss Judy of Lacy Springs; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.

Everett L. Thacker
Everett Lee Thacker, 53, of Fairfax died Saturday March 3, 2001, at Cameron Glen Care Center.
He was born Feb. 25, 1948, in Richmond, the son of Lucy Ann Claytor and Everett A. Thacker.
He was a carpenter.
Surviving with his wife, Gail Boyle Thacker, are a son, Everett Lee Thacker of Fredericksburg; two stepsons, Christopher and John Miller; a stepdaughter, Anna Miller; a sister Ida M. Pruitt of Front Royal; two stepsisters, Diane Moupin of Crozet and Mary Thacker of Manassas; a grandchild; and a step-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Sanford Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Frank Wilbur Adams, 81, of 105 Lakeridge Court, Stephens City, died Saturday March 3, 2001, at his home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Greensburg, Pa., the son of Robert Bruce and Nellie Mae Rook Adams.
He had been employed by the U.S. Department of Navy in Washington, D.C. for 37 years. He retired as assistant director of household shipping goods.
He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Ridings Chapel United Methodist Church.
He married Peggy Elizabeth Brummett Adams Nov. 19, 1955, in Chevy Chase, Md.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Victoria McCray of Winchester; a stepdaughter Penny Hyde of Saint Maarten, Virgin Islands; and a grandchild.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ridings Chapel United Methodist Church in Stephens City with Dr. William Wade officiating.
Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park mausoleum. Military honor will be given by Winchester VFW Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Justin Sisson, David Kimmell, Jeff McCray, Billy Hanger, Bruce Kimmell, and Bob Jermyn.

Theodore Foster II
Theodore Foster II, 78, of 717 Merrimans Lane, Winchester, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Foster was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Utica, N.Y., the son of Theodore Stewart and Louise Rice Foster. He was vice president for Halltown Paperboard Co. in Charles Town, W.Va.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lehigh University. He was a sergeant in the Army, with the 34th Division, and served in the Northern Africa and Italy campaigns during World War II.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Rotary International, and the Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Commission. He was a charter member and treasurer for Trout Unlimited.
He married Jane Morian on June 18, 1949, in Bartow, Pa.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Theodore Foster III of Gulph Mills, Pa., and Tucker F. Foster and Jonathan C. Foster, both of Winchester; a sister, Lois Foster of Syracuse, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Reifsnyder and Dr. Donald Jones officiating.

Rick M. Hounshell
Rick Monroe Hounshell, 44, of Highland, Calif., formerly of Front Royal, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in Redland Community Hospital, Redland, Calif.
Mr. Hounshell was born Jan. 18, 1957, in Winchester, Howard Monroe Hounshell and Amy Russell Hounshell. He was a welder for Automart Radiator Co. in Redland.
Surviving with his mother, of Winchester, and his father, of Front Royal, are two sons, Ricky M. Hounshell Jr. and Jackob E. Hounshell, both of Rialto, Calif.; and two sisters, Gail Brown of Winchester and Diana McKinney of Richmond.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick, with the Rev. Mary Lock officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mark Russell, Jason Mills, Jerry Mills, Bradley Mills, John Mitchell, Scott Hounshell, Monty Hounshell, Todd McKinney, David Baum, and Clifton Day.
