Ann B. Oliff
Ann Bojanovsky Oliff, 77, of Front Royal, formerly of Miami and Annandale, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mrs. Oliff was born May 23, 1923, in Cicero, Ill., the daughter of William and Mary Rika Bojanovsky. She was retired as a seamstress for Saks Fifth Avenue of Miami.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Ann Oliff of Front Royal; and two granddaughters.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, is handling arrangements.

Claude C. Dimmette Jr.
Claude C. Dimmette Jr., 74, of 1512 Lakeview Drive, Cross Junction, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Dimmette was born May 5, 1926, in Washington, D.C., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude C. Dimmette. He was a civil engineer for Athavale Lystad Association, Tysons Corner, and a member of the New York State Professional Engineering Association.

He was a graduate of George Washington University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Redland United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 21. He was a Boy Scout leader with Troop 107.

He married Helen F. Baker on July 17, 1983, in Upper Marlboro, Md. His first wife, Elise S. Dimmette, died in 1982.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Janet M. Cloninger of Leesburg; two sons, James C. Dimmette of White Hall, Md., and Robert J. Dimmette of Titusville, Fla.; a sister, Marie Hymel of Metairie, La.; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with the Rev. John G. Julcher officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 3271, Winchester 22604; or to Heart Haven, 20 S. Cameron St., Suite 107, Winchester 22601.

Hilda B. Poteete
Hilda Blanche Poteete, 65, of P.O. Box 95, 51 Patty’s Place, Delray, W.Va., died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Poteete was born March 21, 1935, in Mount Lebanon, Pa., the daughter of Alfred and Hilda Hamler Sibert. She was a member of the Methodist faith, Wardensville VFW Post 2102 Ladies Auxiliary, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and the NCOA Auxiliary.

She was married to Kenneth N. Poteete, who died Dec. 23, 1999.

Surviving are five sons, Kenneth Poteete Jr., Steven Poteete, and Keith Poteete, all of Delray, David Poteete of Clarksville, Tenn., and James Poteete of Redlion, Pa.; two daughters, Linda Glass and Karen Poteete, both of Delray; and three brothers, William Sibert and Alfred Sibert Jr., both of Bethel Park, Pa., and Richard Sibert of Finleyville, Pa.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Poteete home in Delray, with Minister Eric Bridges officiating.

Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va., is handling arrangements.

Gerald W. Pierce Sr.
Gerald Woodrow Pierce Sr., 61, of 1373 Chilly Hollow Road, Berryville, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Pierce was born Jan. 29, 1940, in Berryville, the son of Charles Woodrow and Annie Mae Owens Pierce. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and an Army veteran.

He was a member of Berryville Moose Lodge 2139, the American Legion, and the VFW. He was a lifetime member of the Virginia Jaycees.

He married Ruby Hubbard on Nov. 9, 1966, in Hagerstown, Md.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Sandra Kaye Buck of Suffolk; a son, Gerry Pierce of Berryville; a brother, Charles Leon Pierce of Montross; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. William K. Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with military honors accorded by the Clarke County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ray Combs
Ray Combs, 78, of 175 Pingley Lane, Winchester, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home, Winchester.

Mr. Combs was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Needmore, W.Va., the son of Granville and Rachel Teets Combs. He was a timberman and logger for P.W. Plumly Lumber Corp. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

He married Shirley Wilkins on April 9, 1944, in Mathias, W.Va.

Surviving with his wife are a son, James R. “Bubby” Combs of Winchester; two daughters, Patricia A. “Dee Dee” Thompson of Winchester and Eileen K. LaFollette of Winchester; two sisters, Sadie Brill of Keyser, W.Va., and Ina Fletcher of Winchester; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Salem Mennonite Church, Baker, W.Va., with the Rev. Johnnie Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Thompson, Junior LaFollette, Timmy Combs, Jeremy Abbott, Junior Meadows, and Jim Moyer.

Loy-Giffin Funeral Home, Wardensville, W.Va., is handling arrangements.

Edward J. Sargent
Edward J. Sargent, 77, of Cluseret Court, Winchester, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Sargent was born May 30, 1923, in Baltimore, the son of Dewey and Nora Sullivan Sargent. He worked as a night watchman for National Fruit Product Co. and retired in 1989.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and participated in the Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Medal, two Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the AARP. He was a former member of VFW Post 2123.

He married Zenith Shipe on March 18, 1946, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Julia A. Smith of Winchester; a sister, Gertrude Shelly of Winchester; two brothers, John S. Sargent Sr. and William J. Sargent of Frederick County; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

A daughter, Martha S. Griffith, is deceased.

A private graveside service is planned for Thursday.

Jones Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Geneva M. Grubbs
Geneva Mumaw Grubbs, 90, of 803 S. Main St., Woodstock, formerly of Winchester, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Woodstock.

Mrs. Grubbs was born May 8, 1910, in Shenandoah County, the daughter of G.W. Frank and Mary Spitzer Mumaw. She was retired as a registered nurse at Winchester Medical Center and had worked as a private duty nurse.

She was a 1933 graduate of the Winchester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

She was married to Welton M. Mickey Grubbs.

She was the last member of her immediate family.

A private graveside service will be at 10. a.m. Saturday in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with the Rev. Sid W. Roden officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 484, Mt. Jackson 22842.

Roy F. Jenkins
Roy Felton Jenkins, 64, of 72 Darke Lane West, Summit Point, W.Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Jenkins was born April 14, 1936, in Madison County, the son of Harry and Lizzie Dodson Jenkins. He was an orchard worker and had retired.

He was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

He was married to Joyce May Ramey.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Marie Chamblin of Summit Point; two sons, Rickey F. Jenkins of Winchester and Roy Allen Jenkins of Charles Town, W.Va.; a brother, James Jenkins of Franklintown, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Lee Strickler officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Michelle A. Wright
Michelle Ann Croson Wright, 47, of 104 Lakeridge Court, Stephens City, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at her home.

Beulah M. Russo
Beulah Marion Russo, 93, of Route 1, Gore, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Jettie L. Beckley
Jettie Lorraine Beckley, 82, of 105 N. Edgewood Drive, Apt. 3, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Mrs. Beckley was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Hagerstown, the daughter of Grover M. and Maude L. Shirey Ohler. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, the Keenagers of Grace Brethren Church, and the Friendships Group.

She was married to M. Crawford Beckley, who died in 1995.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Finz Stenger and Cathy M. Thomas, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Dennis H. Finz of Hagerstown, William A. Beckley of North Potomac, Md., Ronald W. Beckley of Chambersburg, Pa., and Gary D. Beckley of Winchester; two stepdaughters, Betty Yeager of Mercersburg, Pa., and Norma Jean Stottlemyer of Bowie, Md.; a stepson, Donald Beckley of Clear Spring, Md.; a sister, Romaine Stoner of Havre de Grace, Md.; a brother Richard E. Ohler of Hagerstown; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Travis D. Knoll officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rev. Canice Crawford
Rev. Canice Crawford, T.O.R., 73, of the Franciscan Friars Sacred Heart Monastery, White Post, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

The Rev. Crawford was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Pittsburgh, the son of Albert and Margaret McGeary Crawford. He entered the community of Franciscan Friars, T.O.R., on Sept. 1, 1947, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 21, 1955, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pa.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1952 and theology in 1955 from Saint Francis University and a master’s degree in education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

He was a faculty member of the Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia from 1955 to 1958, a Bishop at Egan Catholic High School in Fairless Hills, Pa., from 1958 to 1967 and from 1970 to 1971. He was a military chaplain in the Navy from 1967 to 1970. His pastoral assignments include Annunciation Church, Church of the Little Flower, Hollywood, Fla., and St. John Church, St. Margaret Church, and the Epiphany Church, all in Pittsburgh.

He had lived at the Sacred Heart Friary in White Post for the last three years.

Surviving are two sisters, Patricia Crawford and Alice Boyle, both of Pittsburgh.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at the Franciscan Friars Sacred Heart Monastery. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Kieran Church, Pittsburgh, with Father Joseph Janiszeski, T.O.R., and Bishop John McDowell officiating.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday in Loretto, Pa.

Visitation will be at 8 a.m. today at the monastery.

The funeral for Isabell S. Ford, whose obituary was published Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, will be at 1 p.m. today in Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal. Burial will be in Success Cemetery, Warren County.
