Barbara W. Crites
Barbara Webster Crites, 51, of Charleston, W.Va., formerly of Wardensville, W.Va., died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Crites was born April 4, 1949, in Winchester, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” and Mary Harrison Webster. She was a waitress and attended the Wardensville Assembly of God.
She married Billy Dean Crites on April 22, 1970, in Winchester. Mr. Crites died in 1993.
Surviving with her mother, of Wardensville, are a son, Billy Jo Crites of Durbin, W.Va.; two daughters, Amy Holley of Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Brenda Rader of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Ross Webster of Jacksonville, N.C.; two sisters, Shirley Ogle of Orange and Carolyn Crites of Keyser, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Loy-Giffin Funeral Home, Wardensville, with the Rev. Sherwin Tharp officiating.
Donald R. Rush
Donald Ray Rush, 60, of 28 Ritenour Lane, Maurertown, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in Fairfax Hospital.
Mr. Rush was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Maurertown, the son of Elwood Linden and Ruby Virginia Spiggle Rush. He worked for the Town of Edinburg and had worked for Edinburg Aileen Co., the Highway Department, and PTL Enterprises.
He was a 1962 graduate of Central High School and was an Army veteran.
He was married to Darlene Virginia Heishman.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Darletta Ray Rush of Woodstock; a sister, Joyce C. Lineweaver of Star Tannery; two brothers, Robert L. Rush and Lacy D. Rush, both of Woodstock; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Valley Pike Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Ralph Burner and the Rev. Eugene Lenker officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.
Pallbearers will be Harold “Dukie” Racey, Bobby Ryan, Ronnie Ross, Skeeter Getz, Harry Helsley, and John Martin.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock.

Mary G. Hawse
Mary Glenn Hawse, 86, of Westminster-Canterbury, Winchester, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Hawse was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Winchester, the daughter of William Miller Lupton and Mary Glenn Steele Lupton. She was a former teacher with Winchester Public Schools.
She was a 1932 graduate of John Handley High School and a 1936 graduate of Randolph Macon Women’s College.
She was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church and attended the Asbury Fellowship Class.
She married John J. Hawse on June 24, 1944, in Winchester. Mr. Hawse died in 1993.
Surviving are a son, John William Hawse of Winchester; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Braddock Street United Methodist Church, with Dr. Alan R. Felumlee and Dr. Marcus West officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Wenger, Larry Orndorff, John Marino, Jimmy Rhodes, Bob Jones, Steve Williams, and members of the Asbury Fellowship Class.

Lillian L. Mason
Lillian Ladis Mason, 90, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Front Royal.
Mrs. Mason was born Aug. 24, 1910, in Hammond, Ill., the daughter of Louis Henry and Elvah Ladis Bryant. She served with the American Red Cross and the Department of the Army.
She was a member of Strasburg Presbyterian Church and a docent at the Strasburg Museum. She was a former member of the Business Women’s Club of Strasburg.
She was married to Stephen Robert Mason.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the home of Bill Bryant Jr., 3361 Turkey Run Road, Star Tannery, with Pastor Robert Bohm officiating.

James F. Wilson Jr.
James Fairfax Wilson Jr., 60, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Mr. Wilson was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Winchester, the son of James F. and Katherine Ward Wilson. He was a boiler engineer for various hotels in Washington, D.C. and a Navy veteran.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker VFW Post 896.
He was married to Sandra Settle Wilson.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, James F. Wilson III and John E. Wilson, both of Winchester; a stepson, Gregory Scott Settle of Martinsburg; a stepdaughter, Sherry Sue Howe of Martinsburg; two sisters, Margaret Lintz and Alma Coffman, both of Winchester; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with Chaplain Donald E. LaFaber officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the Veterans Combined Honor Guard.

Ralph D. Zimmerman
Ralph Daniel “Danny” Zimmerman, 51, of 1091 S. Sleepy Creek Road, Whitacre, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Zimmerman was born Oct. 19, 1949, in Frederick, Md., the son of Ralph B. and Kathleen Hedges Zimmerman. He was a carpenter for H&W Construction in Winchester and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Glade Valley Methodist Church in Walkersville, Md.
He married Deborah “Debbie” Schell Feb. 1, 1970, in Legore, Md.
Surviving with his wife and his mother of Frederick, are a son, Robert Lee Zimmerman of York, Pa.; and a sister, Doris Jean Flanagan of Rocky Ridge, Md.
A private service will be held at a later date.

Kenneth J. Detwiler
Kenneth James Werner Detwiler, 85, of 604 Kernstown Court, Winchester, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Detwiler was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Parkersburg, W.Va., the son of Frank J. and Ruth Walker Detwiler. He was the founder of Detwiler Construction and worked at the Parkersburg Sentinel for 25 years.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He married Verneda Drain May 1, 1937, in Parkersburg.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Donald J. Detwiler of Conicville and Jerry L. Detwiler of Winchester; a daughter, Deborah Detwiler-Duckworth of Winchester; two brothers, Harold Detwiler of Summerton, S.C., and Charles Detwiler of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

William J. Wilkinson
William Jasper Wilkinson, 91, of Front Royal, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001.
Mr. Wilkinson was born Aug. 31, 1909.
He was married to Helen Ashford Wilkinson.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane W. Gyllenhoff of Fredericksburg and Sarah M. Law of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson, N.C., with the Rev. Ray Wells officiating.

Ruth R. Shank
Ruth Ellen Rush Shank, 92, of Strasburg, formerly of Alexandria, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Shank was born June 25, 1908, in Shenandoah County, the daughter of Daniel Wilton and Minnie Alice Dinges Rush. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
She was married to Charles Franklin Shank.
Surviving is a sister, Mary Alice Mowery of Richmond.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. Keith Warren officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg.

Marshall D. Williams Sr., 75, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Anita R. Maines
Anita Richard Maines, 97, of Stephens City, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, in Winchester.
Mrs. Maines was born May 4, 1903, the daughter of Ludger and Albina Henault Richard. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
She was a former member of the Stephens City Extension Homemakers.
She married George Henry Maines Jr. Sept. 7, 1925, in Fall River, Mass. Mr. Maines died in 1966.
Surviving are three daughters, Gladys Hamilton of Stephens City, Vivian Bailey of Jacksonville, Fla., and Judithe Ware of Carmichael, Calif.; two sisters, Lauretta Turner of Fall River and Armande Pellitier of Seymour, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody, Mass.

Kenneth E. Mead Jr.
Kenneth E. Mead Jr., 57, of Montgomery Circle, Stephens City, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Mead was born Feb. 9, 1944, in Scranton, Pa., the son of Kenneth E. Mead and Grace Lance Evans. He was a communication engineer with TRW and served 22 years in the Navy.
He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Winchester Hiram Lodge A.F.&A.M.
He married Laura J. Mead on June 21, 1986, in Babylon, N.Y.
Surviving with his wife and mother, of Dickson City, Pa., are two daughters, Laura-Jean Mead of Stephens City and Samantha M. Fuhrey of Covington, Ga.; a son, Adam E. Mead of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Grace M. Brill of Carlisle, Pa., and Marlene A. Wicks of Scranton; two brothers, Gary H. Mead of Clarks Summit, Pa., and Jack R. Mead of Scranton; and two grandchildren.
A son, Kenneth E. Mead III, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Ericson officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Chester Shoemaker Jr.
Chester Franklin Shoemaker Jr., 45, of Cedar Creek Grade, Winchester, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Shoemaker was born March 12, 1955, in Winchester, the son of Chester F. and Betty Loue Tharpe Shoemaker.
He was a production worker at Corrugated Container Corp. and a member of Living Church of God.
Surviving with his father, of Winchester, are two sisters, Diane L. Hawk of Chambersburg, Pa., and Susan F. Beitzel of Accident, Md.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Kenneth L. Frank officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
