Howard V. Shingleton
Howard Vernon Shingleton, 87, of Augusta, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Lorida, Fla.
Mr. Shingleton was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Romney, W.Va., the son of Jesse H. and Nettie Shawen Shingleton. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Tearcoat Church of the Brethren in Augusta.
He was married to Nellie G. Combs, who died Oct. 21, 1990.
Surviving are a daughter, Donnis Klein of Mt. Airy, Md.; three sons, Edwin Shingleton of Pueblo, Colo., Eldon Shingleton of Ravenswood, W.Va., and Galen Shingleton of Augusta; three sisters, Alma Oates and Norma Oates, both of Augusta, and Evelyn Lee of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tearcoat Church of the Brethren, Augusta, with Pastor Ken Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Tearcoat Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Shingleton, Shayne Shingleton, Robert Roomsburg, Aaron Klein, Todd Shingleton, and Carl Davis.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta.

Lena E. Sager
Lena Ethel Sager, 93, of Wardensville, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker, W.Va.
Miss Sager was born Jan. 13, 1908, in Perry, W.Va., the daughter of Nathaniel B. and Sara Frances Sager. She worked at Safeway stores in Arlington and for Premier Redicals in Perry.
She was a member of Sugar Grove Church of the Brethren in Perry.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sager Cemetery, Perry, with the Rev. Jan Orndorff and the Rev. Cecil Haycock officiating.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at Loy-Giffin Funeral Home, Wardensville, W. Va.

Loretta C. Russell
Loretta Carroll Russell, 81, of Berryville, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Russell was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Cumberland, Md., the daughter of William Porter and Nellie Wiley Carroll. She was co-owner and manager of L&J Cleaners in Berryville.
She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was married to Jack L. Russell.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Carroll Phillipson of Winchester and Donna Ellis of Berryville; a son, Jesse L. Russell II of Berryville; a brother, Irvin Carroll; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Berryville, with the Rev. William K. Dawson and the Rev. James N. Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Daisy R. Baker
Daisy Ruth Baker, 87 of 13 W. Crescent St., Boyce, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Baker was born March 14, 1913, in Orkney Springs, the daughter of Jacob Lee Walker and Clara Jenkins Walker Spitzer. She was a homemaker and a member Boyce Baptist Church.
She married Callie David Baker on Aug. 17, 1927, in Winchester. Mr. Baker died Dec. 1, 1975.
Surviving are two daughters, June Baker Frame of Boyce and Marjory Baker Sweet of Winchester; a sister, Winnie Walker Clevenger of Stephens City; a brother, Edward W. Walker of Charleston, Ill.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A son, David Thomas Baker, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Clinton Lawyer officiating. Burial will be in Salem Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Stephens City.

Wanda M. Markley
Wanda M. Markley, 84, of Winchester, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Markley was born April 17, 1916, in Harrison County, W.Va., the daughter of John M. and Elsie Maud Rollins Edgell. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Revival Center in Albin.
She married Edward R. Markley on Dec. 27, 1954, in Salem, W.Va.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Kenneth R. Markley and Wayne W. Bailey, both of Winchester; a daughter, Pamela J. Haines of Winchester; a brother, Milroy Edgell of Smithsburg, Md.; three sisters, Thelma Thompson, Elfie Watson, and Moneta Davis, all of Salem, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. todayaturday at the chapel of Michael R. Phelps & Associates Funeral Directors, Stephens City, with the Rev. Cletus Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Bessie A. Eversen
Bessie Agnes Eversen, 78, of Front Royal, formerly of Annandale and Miramar, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Mrs. Eversen was born June 14, 1922, in Cicero, Ill., the daughter of Maxmillion and Agnes Rika Bojanski. She was an executive chef at the Dunbarton Oaks School of Arts, a division of Harvard University in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Annandale.
She married Irwin A. Eversen on April 27, 1946. Mr. Eversen died July 13, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Irwin A. Eversen Jr.; a sister, Annie Oliff of Annandale; and a grandson.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Annandale. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. in the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium.
The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Administration Building of Arlington National Cemetery.

Charles J. Paget Sr.
Charles Johnson Paget Sr., 92, of 3542 Dominion Road, Gerrardstown, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mr. Paget was born July 16, 1908, in Philadelphia, the son of Harold Frank and Mary Johnson Paget. He was retired from maintenance in the refrigeration department of Rich Foods in Winchester.
He and his wife, Winifred Paget, were married Oct. 10, 1991. His first wife, Dorothy C. Paget, died Aug. 16, 1991.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Charles J. Paget Jr. of Indianapolis and Ronald A. Paget of Winchester; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with the Rev. George Fraley officiating.

Jerry M. Terry
Jerry Mack Terry, 69, of Amherst Court, Stephens City, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax.
Mr. Terry was born Aug. 12, 1931, in San Saba, Texas, the son of Merlin Alexander and Helen Draper Terry. He had been an inspector for Fairfax County and was an Army veteran of World War II.
He married Jean Marie Bowlen on April 17, 1953. Mrs. Terry died April 18, 1986.
Surviving with his parents, of San Saba, are a son, Jerry Michael Terry of Winchester; a daughter, Mary Cathleen Terry of Stephens City; a sister, Martha McDonald of San Antonio; a brother, Michael Terry of Waco, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.

Betty J. Duke
Betty Jean Duke, 70, of Las Vegas, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Lake Mead Hospital, North Las Vegas.
Mrs. Duke was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Baltimore. She was a registered nurse and had retired.
She was married to Allen J. Duke.
Surviving with her husband are five sons, Michael Morton of Las Vegas, Allen J. Duke Jr. of Riverside, Calif., Gary W. Morton of Menard, Ill., Gregory E. Morton of St. Louis, and Jeffery E. Morton of Rialto, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara A. Troutt of Las Vegas; two sisters, Helen Lee Shirley of Arlington, Texas, and Barbara Ann Bowery of Winchester; and 18 grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Harrison-Ross Chapel, Las Vegas. Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nev.

Cecilia C.A. Cole, 87, of Inwood, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Heartland of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mrs. Cole was born March 22, 1913, in Keyser, W.Va., the daughter of Robert E. and Mary Jane McDonald Lease.
She was married to Roy M. Cole.
Surviving with her husband are four sons, Charles Cole of Wardensville, W.Va., James Cole of Inwood, Roy Cole Jr. of Winchester, and Thad Thomas Cole of Martinsburg; two daughters, Wanda Crawford of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Amanda Smith of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a sister, Frances Lakins of Baltimore; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Johnny Faircloth and the Rev. Edward Myers officiating. Burial will be in Johnsontown Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Claude Curry
Claude Curry, 86, of Boulder City, Nev., died Nov. 23, 2000, at Boulder City Hospital.
Mr. Curry was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Pittsburgh. He was retired and worked in the food processing business.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are two sisters, Virginia Curry of Henderson, Nev., and Miriam Clevenger of Winchester.
A memorial service was held in Henderson.
Palm Mortuary in Henderson handled arrangements.
David B. Leight
David Bartlett Leight, 81, of Middleway, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Leight was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Jefferson County, W.Va., the son of John M. and Georgia Bartlett Leight. He was owner of Clear View Farm and Leight’s Trailer Park.
He was a 1939 graduate of Charles Town High School and a member of the Farmers Home Administration Board, the Farm Bureau, and Middleway United Methodist Church . He was a former member of Charles Town Moose Lodge 948.
He was married to Florence Jean Stuck.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Linda M. Shirley, Loretta J. Shade, and Georgia Y. Everhart, all of Middleway; eight grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three foster great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va., with the Rev. Jim Embrey officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
