Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Wanda M. Markley
Wanda M. Markley, 84, of Winchester, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Markley was born April 17, 1916, in Harrison County, W.Va.., the daughter of John M. and Elsie Maud Rollins Edgell. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Revival Center in Albin.

She married Edward R. Markley on Dec. 27, 1954, in Salem, W.Va.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, Kenneth R. Markley and Wayne W. Markley, both of Winchester; a daughter, Pamela J. Haines of Winchester; a brother, Milroy Edgell of Smithsburg, Md.; three sisters, Thelma Thompson, Elfie Watson, and Moneta Davis, all of Salem, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Michael R. Phelps & Associates Funeral Directors, Stephens City, with the Rev. Cletus Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Palmer, Gary Palmer, Mike Palmer, Dennis Markley, Seneca Haines, and Wayne Barb.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Charles J. Paget Sr.
Charles J. Paget Sr., 92, of Gerrardstown, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Arrangements with Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, are incomplete.

Daniel W. Rinker
Daniel Wayne Rinker, 56, of 4586 Swartz Road, Maurertown, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.

Mr. Rinker was born Nov. 22, 1944, in Woodstock, the son of Paul Daniel and Thelma Olive Ritenour Rinker. He was retired after 32 years as a science teacher at Strasburg High School. He had worked at the Virginian Truck Center for 18 years and formerly taught night classes at Triplett Tech in Mt. Jackson.

He was a former coach of the boy’s eighth grade basketball team and the science academic coach for Strasburg High School.

He was a graduate of Stonewall High School in Mt. Jackson and Berea College in Kentucky.

He was a member of the National Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, the Shenandoah Education Association, and the Shenandoah County Credit Union. He received the John D. Hodson Award from Strasburg High School, the Outstanding Educator Award from the Strasburg Chamber of Commerce, and named Outstanding Educator for the gifted.

He was married to Vivian Malanga.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Dawn Vivian Rinker of Toms Brook and Amber Lynnette Foltz of Edinburg; a son, Paul Daniel Rinker of Woodstock; a sister, Betty Longerbeam of Strasburg; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Strasburg High School, with the Rev. Gordon C. Bayles officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Foltz, Scott Rinker, Bob Busk, Kelly Dykes, John Hodson, and Smith Cooley.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

Lena E. Sager
Lena Ethel Sager, 93, of Wardensville, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker, W.Va.

Loretta C. Russell
Loretta C. Russell, 81, of Berryville, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Howard Shingleton
Howard Shingleton, 87, of Augusta, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Lorida, Fla.

Arrangements with McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va., are incomplete.

Brondell B. Burke
Brondell Baylis Burke, 92, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.

Mr. Burke was born Dec. 13, 1908, in Riverton, Warren County, the son of Lewis W. and Estelle Mae Hottle Burke. He was a retired self-employed electrician. He had worked at Riverton Lime Co.

He was a member of Buckton Presbyterian Church.

He was married to Annie Matilda Bayly, who died in 1987.

He was cared for by Billy and Jane McGill of Front Royal.

Surviving are two sisters, Rachel Keener of Front Royal and Marie Harting of Arlington; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Randy Orndorff officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.

Pallbearers will be Jody McGill, Steve Painter, Billy Chapman, Jessie Dove, Tom Peachey, and Charles Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Warren County Mental Health Association, P.O Box 1095, Front Royal 22630; or to Youth Ministries of Buckton Presbyterian Church.

James L. Coffman
James Lloyd “Jimmy” Coffman, 75, of 107 Equestrian Drive, Stephens City, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Coffman was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Strasburg, the son of Lloyd H. and Anna Mary Keeler Coffman. He was a retired accountant for the federal government at Langley Air Force Base.

He was a graduate of Middletown High School and the University of Virginia, with a degree in accounting.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown, the University of Virginia Alumni Association, and Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Surviving are two sisters, Betty M. Funkhouser of Winchester and Anna Lucille Strother of Stephens City.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with David A. Owings officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Funkhouser, T.J. Funkhouser, Ray Strother, R.J. Strother, Aaron Strother, Kenny Strother, Donnie Strother, and Mark Bassett.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Irene M. Davis
Irene Markle Davis, 88, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Heartland of Martinsburg.

Mrs. Davis was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Berkeley County, W.Va., the daughter of William H. and Bessie V. Huddle Minnick. She was retired as a nurse’s aide at City Hospital, Martinsburg, and had been a telephone operator in Inwood, W.Va.

She was a member of Circle of Love Church in Glengary, W.Va.

She was married to Robert F. Davis.

Surviving are a son, Harold Markle of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; a daughter, the Rev. Dottie Dunham of Glengary; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A daughter, Frances Ann Markle, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, with the Rev. R. Lane Fishel and David Brannon officiating. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Daniel W. Rinker
Daniel Wayne Rinker, 57, of 4586 Swartz Road, Maurertown, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.

Arrangements with Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, are incomplete.

Mary E. Seabolt
Mary Ellen Flynn Seabolt, 84, of Bluemont, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Royal Haven Rest Home.

Mrs. Seabolt was born May 26, 1916, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of William and Catherine Haggarty Flynn. She had retired as a nurse with St. Eugene’s Hospital in Dillon, S.C. She served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a flight nurse.

She was married to Riddick Seabolt, who died in 1976.

Surviving is her nephew and caregiver, Dennis Miller of Bluemont.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. John’s Catholic Church, with Father William Reuhl officiating. Burial will be in Cedardale Cemetery, Mullen, S.C.

Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, is handling arrangements.

W. Ross Shire Jr.
William Ross Shire Jr., 59, of Collinsville Road, Cross Junction, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Shire was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Mt. Joy, Pa., the son of William Ross and Frances Reed Shire. He was secretary/treasurer of the Warlocks Motorcycle Club of Virginia and a patch holder since 1994. He was a Navy veteran.

He married Susie Spaid on May 21, 1988, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife and his parents, of Charlottesville, are three sons, William Ross Shire III of Mt. Jackson, Shiloh Shire of Cross Junction, and Paul Louis Shire of Townsend, Del.; two adopted daughters, Joyce Beebe of Augusta, W.Va., and Beth Irwin of Front Royal; a sister, Betty Faye Zimmerman of Charlottesville; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Chuck Davis officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Seal, Robert “Bear ” Kave, Billy Kitts, Greg Faircloth, Tom Fiddler, Jeff Beebe, and the Hen Club.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Eleanore R. Toan
Eleanore Reed Toan, 80, of 1405 Magruder Court, Winchester, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Toan was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Yonkers, N.Y., the daughter of Floyd O. and Bessie Landers Reed. She was a homemaker and an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and secretary of the Board of Trustees.

She was treasurer of the Fremont Street Nursery and director of Queen and Her Court of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.

She was a member of the Republican Party of Winchester. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Caretakers of Winchester, the United Way, Girl Scouts of America, Project Literacy, and Belle Grove.

She was a 1942 graduate of Cornell University.

She married Charles S. Toan on June 12, 1943, in Yonkers. Mr. Toan died Oct. 26, 1994.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda R. Toan of Atlanta, Elizabeth Toan Poehler of Richmond, and Sylvia Toan Strause of Winchester; a son, Douglas R. Toan of Winchester; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Richard Reifsnyder officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 116 S. Loudoun St., Winchester 22601.

Louise H. Nasser
Louise Haig “Lou Babe” Nasser, 70, of Yorktown, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in Mary Immaculate Hospital, Yorktown.

Mrs. Nasser was born April 18, 1930, in Winchester, the daughter of Herbert Haig and Lillian Louise Strother Smellie. She was retired from the Fairfax County Property Assessment Department and had worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond.

She was a graduate of Varina High School in Richmond.

She was an avid supporter of the Republican Party and a member of the Republican Women’s Club. She was a member of Truro Episcopal Church.

Surviving are a son, Michael Nasser; three daughters, Sharon Chase, Karon Haddaway, and Debi Ochoa; three sisters, Peggy Stover, Katherine Carter, and Grace Mehfoud; and 11 grandchildren.

A daughter, Angela Lemon, is deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
