Donald D. Birchwood
Donald Dixon “Don” Birchwood, 70, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Mr. Birchwood was born April 3, 1930, in Jacksonville, Fla., the son of Charles B. and Billie Dixon Birchwood. He was a consumer service representative with Whirlpool Corp.
He was a member of the Old Timer’s Club of the Whirlpool Corp., the American Modeler’s Association, and the Capon Bridge Senior Center. He attended Capon Bridge Christian Church.
He married Laura Giles on March 24, 1950.
Surviving with his wife are a sister, Jacqueline Padgett of Jacksonville; two half brothers, Benson Keith Birchwood and Erik Karl Birchwood, both of Jacksonville; and a half sister, Karen Jackson of Jacksonville.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Capon Bridge Christian Church, with the Rev. Jack Wardrope and the Rev. Herman Goede officiating. Burial will be in Capon Chapel Cemetery, Capon Bridge.
Pallbearers will be Gary Carpenter, Buck Carpenter, Donald Kerns, Randy Shanholtz, Joe Butler, and John Sears.

Jeffrey M. Kerby
Jeffrey Mark Kerby, 16, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001.
Mr. Kerby was the son of Timothy and Marjorie Engle Kerby. He held part-time jobs at Dairy Queen and Food Lion.
Surviving with his parents are a sister, Jessica Dawn Kerby; and his paternal grandparents, Chuck and Joann Kerby of Mt. Zion, W.Va.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, W.Va., with the Rev. Robert Nicholas and the Rev. Harry Sears officiating. Burial will be in Gibson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Gertie V. Sealock
Gertie Virginia Sealock, 89, of Front Royal, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Royal Haven Rest Home, Front Royal.
Mrs. Sealock was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Warren County, the daughter of William and Dorcas Ann Beatty Fox. She was retired from Front Royal Silk Mill.
She was a member of Front Royal Baptist Temple.
She married Everett Henry Sealock in 1935. Mr. Sealock died in 1984.
Surviving are a son, Everett “Leon” Sealock of Front Royal; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Danny Clegg officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may also call from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Odessa “Dolly” Hawkins, 93, formerly of Lehew, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Winchester.

Melvin W. Comer
Melvin W. Comer, 76, of Front Royal died Saturday Jan. 13, 2001, in the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Shenandoah, the son of George William and Flossie Belle Kite Comer.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II. He retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad as a clerk and also retired from the Allied Chemical Co. in the maintenance department.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Front Royal, the American Legion Giles B. Cook Post 53, and the Rivermont Ramblers Square Dance Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Julia Ann Kriz of Payson, Ariz. and Nancy Jane Comer of Front Royal; a sister, Mae C. Moore of Fredericksburg; and a brother, Williard R. Comer of Shenandoah.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Front Royal with the Rev. John P. Oliver Jr. and Dr. William Ingram officiating. Inurnment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.

Rebecca E. Haymaker, 75, of Stephenson died Saturday Jan. 13, 2001, in a local nursing home.
She was born April 2, 1925, the daughter of William Henry and Georgia Anna Fincham Racer.
She was retired as a waitress from the Donut Castle.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Pyne of Winchester and Brenda Marder of Twinsburg, Ohio; three sons, Gary Reedy of Stephenson, Erwin Reedy and John Allen Reedy, both of Twinsburg; two sisters, Patsy Wymer of Winchester and Peggy Johnson of Stephens City; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shenandoah Memorial Park with Dr. J. P. Roby officiating.

Harry “Bobby” Robert Rudy, 62, of Wardensville, W.Va., died Friday Jan. 12, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 20, 1938, in Thorn Bottom, W.Va., the son of Charles B. and Rosa Jenkins Rudy.
He was a carpenter and an electrician and retired from Rubbermaid Inc.
A 1956 graduate of Wardnesville High School, he was a member of Sugar Grove Church of the Brethren.
He married Helen Miller on March 21, 1975, in Williamsport, Md.
Surviving with his wife are a brother, Charles B. Rudy Jr. of Wardensville; and four sisters, Virginia R. Lamp of Winchester, Doris R. Eastep and Phyllis R. Jenkins of Wardensville, and Shirley I. Borden of Woodstock.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Loy-Giffin Funeral Home in Wardensville with the Rev. Carlyle McDonald and Rev. Jan Orndorff officiating. Burial will be in Wardensville Cemetery.

He was born May 30, 1976, in Ranson, W.Va., the son of Charles and Jean Wesco Grimes.
He was a temporary worker for On-Site and Manpower Employment Services and Afac Sprinkler Systems in Ranson.
Surviving with his parents of Summit Point are a son, Trevon Markee Wesco of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three sisters, Stacy Wesco of Summit Point, Quinta Underwood of Berryville, and Zana Holmes of Charles Town, W.Va.; a brother, Jamey Stoneberger of Martinsburg; maternal grandmother, Ruby D. Wesco of Summit Point; and paternal grandmother, Becky Holmes of Lewisville.

Alma F. Shobe, 93, of Wardensville, W.Va., died Saturday Jan. 13, 2001, at the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center in Baker, W.Va.
She was born May 23, 1907, in Fulks Run, a daughter of W.C. and Katherine B. Leggett Fawley of Middletown.
She was cook for Capon Springs Farms in Capon Springs, W.Va.
She attended the Wardensville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Thomas L. Shobe of Wardensville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home in Wardensville with the Rev. Luther Crites officiating. Burial will be in the Wardensville Cemetery.

Freda Louise Pentoney, 72, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Miss Pentoney was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Morgan County, W.Va., the daughter of John and Elizabeth Ruppenthal Pentoney. She had retired after many years with the Eastern Panhandle Training Center in Martinsburg.
She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads, W.Va., and attended public schools in Morgan County.
Surviving is a brother, Paul Vernon Pentoney of Martinsburg.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads, with Pastor Wayne Frum and Pastor Hennis Fox officiating. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.
