Philbert A. Haun
Philbert Austin Haun, 86, of 840 Boom Road, Berryville, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Haun was born July 13, 1914, in Woodstock, the son of John Henry and Lula Reel Haun. He was retired as a delivery driver for ARA, District News, in College Park, Md.

He was a ranger glider pilot with the 11th Airborne, Pacific Division, during World War II.

He attended the Church of the Transfiguration in Boyce. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Northside Lanes in Winchester and Pikeside Lanes in Pikeside, W.Va.

He married Lucille Ellen Deeds on Sept. 19, 1942, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Haun died Dec. 4, 1998.

Surviving are a son, Donald Haun of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, A. Dawn Haun-Douay of Berryville and Donita E. H. Judy of Stephens City; a brother, Charles Haun of Culpeper; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with Dr. Bill Wade officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with military honors accorded by the Clarke County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Marshall C. Walter
Marshall Clevenger Walter, 88, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Evergreen Health and Rehab Center, Winchester.

Mr. Walter was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Stephens City, the son of Charles and Carrie Willis Walter. He was a retired construction worker and an Army veteran of World War II.

He attended Ridings Chapel Church.

His wife, Avis A. Walter, is deceased.

Surviving is a sister, Marie Paricci of Cresskill, N.J.

A funeral will be at noon Friday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. William Wade officiating. Burial will be in Ridings Chapel Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Shenandoah Valley Chapter, 284 E. Water St., Harrisonburg 22801-4034.

Florence H. Miller
Florence Hoffman Miller, 81, of Augusta, W.Va., died Saturday Jan. 6, 2001, in the Winchester Medical Center.

She was born June 14, 1919, daughter of Zigmund and Mae Susan Jaeger Hoffman.

She attended Capon Bridge Christian Church in Capon Bridge, W.Va.

She married Martin John Miller Jr. who died in 1982.

Survivors include a son, Glen Miller of Toms River, N.J.; a brother, Ray Hoffman of Williamsburg; a sister, Marion Miller of Toms River; and a grandson.

A funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Giffin Funeral Home in Capon Bridge with the Rev. Herman Goede officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Green Lane Cemetery in Delray, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Fleta M. Long
Fleta McLaughlin Long of 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive died Saturday Jan. 6, 2001, in a local nursing home.

She was born in Rockingham County, the daughter of William and Gertrude Pollard McLaughlin.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Good Samaritan Bible Class.

She married DeWitt Franklin Long Aug. 24, 1924, in Harrisonburg. He died June 1, 1997.

Survivors include a son, Donald M. Long of Frederick County; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be private.

Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester 22601.

Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home.

Stephen F. Witul
Stephen Francis Witul, 48, of Waynesboro, formerly of Winchester, died Saturday Jan. 6, 2001.

He was born Oct. 14, 1952, in Washington, D.C., the son of John Stephen Witul and Mildred J. Royston Witul Breitenbach.

He was a 1971 graduate of James Wood High School and a former employee of Virginia Panel Corp.

He had coached the Waynesboro girls Babe Ruth softball team and girls YMCA basketball teams.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessi A. Witul and Jodi A. Witul, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, James C. Murphy of Dumfries and B. Jack Alkire of Brucetown; and a sister, Colleen Witul of Connecticut.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the memorial service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Witul Children Education Fund, c/o Mrs. Bernice Witul, 1325 Crofton Ave., Waynesboro 22980.

Dennis L. Fauver
Dennis Lane Fauver, 39, of 4777 Northwestern Pike died Saturday Jan. 6, 2001, in the Winchester Medical Center.

He was born March 19, 1961, the son of Lewis Cecil and Catherine Marie Kump Fauver.

He was an auto mechanic and was last employed at McFarland Mills.

He married Rose Reel Sept. 2, 1983, in Winchester

Survivors including his wife and mother of Winchester are a stepson, Leonard A. Shingleton of Winchester; a sister, Bonnie F. Connor of Gore; five brothers, Donald W. Fauver and Gary L. Fauver, both of Winchester, Douglas W. Fauver of Boyce, Darrell L. Fauver of Inwood, W.Va., and Gerald F. Fauver of Stephenson; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home South Chapel. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Donald L. Fauver, Gary L. Fauver, Douglas W. Fauver, Darrell L. Fauver, Gerald F. Fauver, and Kenneth Light.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave. Suite B, Winchester 22601.

Dorothy A. Judy
Dorothy Ann Alt Judy, 87, of Sandston and formerly of Upper Tract, W.Va. died Friday Jan. 5, 2001, at the Ashland Convalescent Center.

She was born Feb. 21, 1913, in Petersburg, W.Va., the daughter of Martin G. and Hannah Rebecca Susan Borror Alt.

She was a member of the Brushy Run Church of God in Upper Tract.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jesse L. Judy; three daughters, Norma Brown of Sandston, Brenda Cook of Upper Tract, and Neva Myers of Culpeper; three sons, Berlan Judy of Moorefield, W.Va., Elden Judy of Petersburg, and Paul L. Judy of Upper Tract; two stepsons, Harlan Judy of Lahmansville, W.Va. and Orville Judy of Upper Tract; two stepdaughters, Freda Alt of Baltimore, Md. and Elaine Shreve of Upper Tract; a sister, Dora Yokum of Landes, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and two step great-great grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Brushy Run Church of God in Upper Tract with Rev. Bruce Cosner and Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating. Burial will be in Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to a charity of choice.

Harold G. Potts
Harold Gordon Potts of Richmond, formerly of Berryville, died Sunday Jan. 7, 2001, in Our Lady of Hope in Richmond.

Arrangements with Enders and Shirley Funeral Home are incomplete.

Joyce A. Padgett
Joyce A. Padgett, 91, of Winchester died Wednesday Jan. 3, 2001, at home.

He was born in Schenectady, N.Y., and lived in Padgett’s Corner, Prince George’s County, Md. for 75 years.

He graduated from Surrattsville High School and worked 29 years with the U.S. Public Heath Service in Washington, D.C., and Bethesda, Md. He later worked for Padgett Plumbing and Electric and then went into commercial real estate.

He was an official of Bell’s United Methodist Church and a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Lodge.

His first wife, Elsie Marie Fleek died in 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dawson Winer; a son J.A. Padgett Jr. of Mitchellville; three stepdaughters, Mari Cheathan, Sue Witts, and Teresa Winer and a stepson, John Winer Jr., all of Texas; and 14 grandchildren.

A son, Russell Wayne Padgett, died in 2000.

The date and time for a memorial service to be held at Bell’s United Methodist Church will be announced later. Local arrangements are being handled by Jones Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy or National Multiple Sclerosis.

Ethel V. Cook
Ethel V. Cook, 92, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Martinsburg.

Mrs. Cook was born March 18, 1908, in Frederick County, the daughter of Shelton and Ursula Burkhart Bly. She was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg.

She was married to Elmer O. Cook.

Surviving are four sons, W. Henry Cook and Carl L. Cook, both of Martinsburg, Ralph S. Cook of Inwood, W.Va., and Roland L. Cook of Spartansburg, S.C.; two daughters, Darlene V. Hoffmaster, with whom she lived, and Ruth Stinespring of Lynchburg; two foster children, Mike Bennett and Cindy Kesecker, both of Martinsburg; two sisters, Cora Gorman of Hagerstown, Md., and Kathryn Perry of Winchester; a brother, F. Leonard Bly of Winchester; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Gerry Meade and Pastor Harry Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the hospice program.

Jo Horner
Jo Horner, 80, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., formerly of Washington, D.C., and Maurey, W.Va., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Columbia, Md.

Mrs. Horner was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Fairmont, W.Va., the daughter of William and Janet Smith. She and her husband operated restaurants and mobile home lots before moving to Capon Bridge in 1980.

She was an accomplished seamstress and a member of the Methodist faith.

She married William Horner on Sept. 21, 1941, in Frederick, Md. Mr. Horner died in 1985.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet Grandstaff of Hayfield; a brother, Robert Smith of Grafton, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

A private service was held Monday at Slack Funeral Home, Ellicott City, Md. Burial was in George Washington Cemetery, Adelphia, Md.

Householder Service
A memorial service for Edith Cordelia Householder, whose obituary was published Dec. 28, 2000, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, W.Va. Dr. Richard Simpson will officiate.

Dorothy F. McDonald
Dorothy F. “Dot” McDonald, 78, of Winchester, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. McDonald was born May 27, 1922, in Frederick County, the daughter of Edward G. and Sarah Carper Fauver. She had been a bookkeeper for Earl Haines Inc.

She was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church.

She married Arthur C. “Judge” McDonald on Feb. 12, 1944, in Washington, D.C. Mr. McDonald died May 26, 1976.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Leake Cordero of El Centro, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Cameron of Stephenson; a brother, William Fauver of Winchester; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert M. Throckmorton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gregory W. Fauver, Michael Fauver, Daniel E. Cameron, David Nixon, Jacques Billmyer, and Mike Cordero.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Market Street United Methodist Church, 131 S. Cameron St., Winchester 22601.
