Helen E. Drummond
Helen Eugenia Drummond, 83, of Berryville, formerly of Harrisonburg, died Saturday Dec. 23, 2000, in Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville.
Mrs. Drummond was born May 29, 1917, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Clarence and Mary Offutt Jones. She was a homemaker and attended the Baptist Church. She was a past active member in the Price Rotary Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Reavis Drummond, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Reavis Drummond of Newark, Del., and John Stephen Drummond of Manassas; four daughters, Shirley Peoples Dvorak of Severn, Md., Mary Jean Reynolds and Helen Elizabeth Drummond, both of Harrisonburg, and Linda Morrison, of Winchester; a brother, William Jones, of Montrose; three sisters, Evelyn Owens of Alexandria, Dorothy Fetner of Silver Springs, Md., and Anna Fanning of Olney, Md.; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will be at the Forestville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.

Sydney Blatt
Sydney Blatt, 97, of 110 Chalmers Court, Berryville, formerly of Philadelphia, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Blatt was born June 20, 1903, in Philadelphia, the son of Frank and Fannie Yanovsky Blatt. He was a tobacco merchant and owned F. Blatt Inc. for over 50 years.
He attended Staunton Military Academy and was a 1928 graduate of Dickenson College and Law School.
He was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity, the MLA Club, the Vespes Club, the Cavendish Club, Cardozo Lodge, and the Hudson Athletic Club.
He married Mae Wendkos in 1930. Mrs. Blatt died in 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise Stieg of Millwood; three sisters, Ruth Ruben and Mirian Baskin, both of Philadelphia, and Roslyn K. Berger of Newton, Mass.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A son, Dr. Mark A. Blatt, is deceased.
No services are planned.

Richard I. Humelsine
Richard Irwin Humelsine, 66, of 304 Walnut St., Berryville, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Humelsine was born June 15, 1934, in Hagerstown, Md., the son of Irwin Humelsine and Catherine Lorena Keplinger Humelsine Levi. He retired as a civil engineer and had served in the Air Force.
He was married to Betty L. Humelsine.
Surviving with his wife are a son, David Runyon of Chambersburg, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private.

Mary C. Stabler
Mary Carter Randolph Stabler, 86, of Winchester, formerly of Silver Spring, Md., died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Stabler was born Feb. 16, 1914, in Kirkwood, Mo., the daughter of Benjamin O’Fallen and Matilda Fontaine Jones Randolph. She had been a school teacher.
She attended Grace Episcopal Church in Berryville.
She was married to E. Kenneth Stabler. Her first husband was Beverly Tucker Nelson.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Nelson of Silver Spring; two daughters, Mary Carter of Charlottesville and Page Loeser of Concord, Mass.; a brother, Fairfax Randolph of Richmond; a sister, Jane Carey Harrison of Millwood; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at noon Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Canon Dwight L. Brown officiating.

Dale L. Lund
Dale L. Lund, 82, of Cross Junction, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Lund was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Bemidji, Minn., the son of Karl Gustaf and Ida Peterson Lund. He retired in 1978 from NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center.
He served with the Air Force in World War II, obtaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a liaison officer at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He retired from military service with numerous citations.
He was a past member of Solomon’s Lodge 121 in Savage, Md.
He married Charlotte Cooley on July 23, 1976, in Jessup, Md.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Bunny Callahan of Sui Sun, Calif., and Melissa Bellinger and Becky Lund, both of Annapolis, Md.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Jones Funeral Home.
Wilmer C. Ward
Wilmer Carl Ward, 83, of Augusta, W.Va., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Ward was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Camden, N.J., the son of Frances Ellis and Martha Werner Ward. He worked in the maintenance department for Cinnanmin Public Schools.
He was married to Elsie Lavinia Burrows.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Wilmer Carl Ward Jr. of Woodstown, N.J., and Harry Frances Ward of Augusta; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, with the Rev. Dan Biser officiating.

Leola Mattie Kesner Smith, 95, of Kinston, N.C., formerly of Winchester, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Guardian Care of Kinston.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
Surviving are a son, Billy B. Bridgewater of Kinston and Samuel A. Bridgewater of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Georgia Mae St. John of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Cora Marie Kesner of Sioux City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

James H. Lentz
James Henry Lentz, 61, of 2012 E. York St., Philadelphia, formerly of Hampshire County, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in Nazareth Hospital, Philadelphia.
Mr. Lentz was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Philadelphia, the son of Daniel Henry and Mae Ganoe Lentz. He was an auto body repairman.
Surviving are two sisters, Elaine Thompson of Philadelphia and Virginia Lentz of Romney, W.Va.; and two brothers, Edward Lentz and Nathan Lentz, both of Trappe, Pa.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va., with Pastor Robert Jeffreys officiating. Burial will be in Branch Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, Three Churches, W.Va.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Harold E. See
Harold Edward See, 82, of Augusta, W.Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, W.Va.
Mr. See was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Purgitsville, W.Va., the son of Lester and Edna Stickley See. He was a retired truck driver and was self-employed for the past 20 years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Wappocomo Post 1101 and the American Legion Hampshire Post 91, both of Romney.
He was a member of White Pine Church of the Brethren in Purgitsville.
He was married to Betty Bowman for 54 years.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Steve See of Augusta and Charlie See of Romney; three daughters, Kathy See of Ridgeley, W.Va., Debbie Paskel of Gore, and Robyn Dawson of Romney; three brothers, Vause See of Ohio, Jack See of Junction, W.Va., and Neil See of Purgitsville; a sister, Inella Zirk of Romney; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A son is deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, with Pastor Richard Longbon officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Randolph E. Barber
Randolph Edward “Jack” Barber, 73, of Bluemont, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in Loudoun Hospital Center, Leesburg.
Mr. Barber was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Lexington, N.C., the son of David Barber and Elsie Sowers. He retired in 1985 from Hazleton Laboratories Inc., now Covance Inc., after more than 20 years.
He and his wife, Eva Barber, were married 42 years. Mrs. Barber died in 1995.
Surviving are a son, Norman “Sonny” Smith of Winchester; two daughters, Mary Ann Carter of Bluemont and Frances Gill of Middletown; two brothers, Allen Moreland of Martinez, Ga., and James Moreland of Hillsboro; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home, Purcellville. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Round Hill.
Pallbearers will be Allen Carter, Billy Carter, Timothy Smith, Randy Smith, Brad Streight, Rodney Hillyard, and Scott Sims.
