Otto Mayr
Otto Mayr, 72, of Falls Church, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in Heritage Hall Health Care Center, Front Royal.
Mr. Mayr was born April 5, 1928, in Muldorf, Germany, the son of Carolina Speth and Hermie Mayr. He worked for the Federal Highway Administration for 32 years and was project manager for the construction of the Cumberland Gap Tunnel.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Mayr; a son, Stephan Mayr of Arlington; a daughter, Monika Mayr of Miami; and two brothers, Fritz Mayr and Kurtle Mayr, both of Eisenartz, Germany.
A private service is planned.

William Lyle Putman, 73, of Stephens City, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Barbara Mitchell Austin, 71, formerly of Winchester, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in Richmond.
Mrs. Austin had owned the Spinning Wheel knit shop and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester.
Surviving is a daughter, Mimi Nevitt of Richmond.
A graveside service was Saturday in All Saints Episcopal Memorial Garden, Richmond.

Darrell Bean, 50, of Northwestern Pike, Winchester, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Bailey Kendrick Brannon, infant son of Richard “Ricky” and Jana Barker Brannon of 301 Middle Fork Road, Cross Junction, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Surviving with his parents are his maternal grandmother, Claudia Barker of Rileyville; his maternal grandfather and step grandmother, William and Rachel Barker of Bradenton, Fla.; his paternal grandfather and step grandmother, Richard and Misty Brannon of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; his paternal grandmother, Lola Zare of Winchester; his maternal great-grandmother, Kathlyn Barker of Bradenton, Fla.; and his paternal great-grandparents, Hugh and Ella Jean Brannon of Cross Junction.
A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery, Cross Junction, with the Rev. Donnie Stotler officiating.

Clarissa N. Collette
Clarissa Nicole Collette, 9, of 2070 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Miss Collette was born Nov. 27, 1991, in Winchester, the daughter of Joseph F. and Regina Hartley Collette. She was a third grade student at Armel Elementary School in Frederick County.
Surviving with her parents are three brothers, Joseph F. Collette Jr. of Stephens City, Travis Collette of Front Royal, and Rennie Collette of Winchester; two sisters, Theresa Nicholson of Winchester and Melanie Scruggs of Stephens City; her paternal grandmother, Bertram Collette of Strasburg; and her maternal grandmother, Maude Hartley of Stephens City.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor Craig Burleson officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Wayne White, Allen White, William Artrip, Jack Cloud, James Laws, and Paul Nicholson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Walter D. Orndorff Sr.
Walter David “Buck” Orndorff Sr., 82, of 4553 Martinsburg Pike, Clearbrook, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Orndorff was born July 25, 1918, in Stephens City, the son of Solomon Orndorff and Ethel Mae Orndorff LaFollette. He was an auctioneer for 52 years and an Army veteran of World War II.
He attended Grace Bible Fellowship Church and was a member of the Shenandoah Gas and Steam Engine Association, the Virginia Auctioneers Association, and the West Virginia Auctioneers Association.
He and his wife, Dorothy Louise Orndorff, were married on March 16, 1955, in Hagerstown, Md.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Ethel Orndorff and Doreen Orndorff, both of Clearbrook; a son, David Orndorff of Berryville; four sisters, Lola Wilson of Winchester, Lola Wilson of Winchester, Daisy Bowen of Martinsburg, W.Va., Sylvia Thomas of Rippon, Calif., and Mattie Fiddler of Stephenson; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Craig Burleson officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carl M. Sweeney
Carl M. “Tom” Sweeney, 82, of 725 Mt. Olive Road, Toms Brook, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in Woodstock Eldercare.
Mr. Sweeney was born July 30, 1918, in Narrow Passage, the son of Charles Milton and Flora Belle Wisman Sweeney. He was a farmer and had worked for Aileen Co. in Edinburg.
He was a member of Maurertown Brethren Church.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Joseph Sweeney of Manassas and Charles Milton Sweeney of Winchester; a daughter, Luella Jane Goodrich of New Hampshire; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date.

Sylvia E. Butler
Sylvia Elizabeth Butler, 70, 116 Onstott Drive, Danville, Ky. died Friday Dec. 1, 2000, in the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Eugene and Ida Suthard Forsyth.
She was a manager for Super 29 Drive-In for 30 years. She was a member of Salt River Baptist Church, Boyle County Senior Citizens, and a former senior companion.
Survivors include a son, Charles Butler Jr. of Harrodsburg, Ky.; a daughter, Tammy Graves of Front Royal; two brothers, Richard Forsyth of Edinburg and Frank Forsyth of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Florence Ferree of Manassas Park; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg with the Rev. Bob Bausum officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
The family will receive friends prior to the service.

Clarissa Collette, 9, died Saturday Dec. 2, 2000, in the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Collette.

Robert L. Easton
Robert Lee “Ginger” Easton, 68, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. died Saturday Dec. 2, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Easton was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Hancock, Md., the son of John Edward and Carrie Catherine Hoyle Easton.
He was married to Olivia “Lib” Helsley Easton for 49 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1953, to Jan. 25, 1955.
He retired as a supervisor after 30 years of service with the Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corp. in Manassas. He operated Bob’s Courier Service with One Valley Bank and retired Nov. 10, 2000.
He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council #117, both in Berkeley Springs, W. Va.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Sheri A. Settle of Culpeper and Tanya R. Easton of Winchester; a son, Robert Lee Easton II of Bristow; two sisters, Mary Faraclas of Berkeley Springs and Connie V. Hovermale of Williamsport, Md.; two brothers, John William Easton of Berkeley Springs and Donald Wayne Pryor of Hagerstown, Md.; a foster son, William W. Hewett of Berkeley Springs; and five grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs.

Marshall C. Longerbeam
Marshall Clifton Longerbeam, 67, of Berryville died Saturday Dec. 2, 2000, in a local nursing home.
He was born June 3, 1933, in Clarke County, the son of Archibald J. and Ethel Symons Longerbeam.
He married Betty Genieva Longerbeam June 4, 1952, in Winchester. She died Dec. 14, 1999.
He was a retired barber and a member of Keystone Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Huff of Berryville and Angela Danner of West Virginia; a son, Wayne Longerbeam of Berryville; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville with Pastors Tony Blackburn and Douglas B. Wright. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville.
Pallbearers will be Bill Duke, Steve McBride, Jesse Fleming, Ray Lambert, Charles Mauck, and Lynn Foltz.

Melvin J. McIntire
Melvin Jackson McIntire, 84, of Frederick County died Saturday Dec. 2, 2000, in Staunton.
He was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Morgan County, W.Va., the son of Ward Beecher and Lillie Mason McIntire.
He owned and operated a saw mill. He was a member of the Guiding Light Gospel Church in Winchester.
Survivors include three sons, Sylvester McIntire of Winchester, Donald and Robert McIntire, both of Frederick County; a daughter, Bonnadean Carter of Clarke County; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenwood United Methodist Church in Unger, W.Va. with Pastor Elizabeth K. Frye officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark McIntire, Mike McIntire, Tim McIntire, Mike Snapp, Scott Lockhart, and Robert Cather Jr.

L. Vernon Ridings
L. Vernon Ridings, 85, of Stephens City died Friday Dec. 1, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Ridings was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Frederick County, the son of Fred W. and Mamie Branner Ridings.
He married Ruby Nichols Ridings Nov. 18, 1941, in Stephens City.
He was a farmer and an orchardist. He was a life member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and served as trustee for 42 years and Sunday school treasurer.
He was a member of Frederick County Fruit Growers Association and trustee of Green Hill Cemetery.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Martha Cooley and Mary Anderson of Stephens City; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stephens City with the Rev. John D. Ericson officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Stephens City.
Pallbearers will be Jim Huffman, Jimmy Huffman, Arthur Lee Ewing, Michael Anderson, Mark Anderson, and Matthew Anderson.
