Gordon L. Jennings
Gordon Lee Jennings, 62, of Gore died Saturday Dec. 2, 2000, in Wardensville, W.Va.
Mr. Jennings was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Wardensville, the son of Raymond and Ruth McGackey Jennings.
He was a roofer for Anderson Sheet Metal Works in Winchester.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Gore.
Survivors include a brother, Melvin Jennings of Norfolk; and a sister, Evelyn Shanholtz of Harrisonburg.
A funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Giffin Funeral Home in Capon Bridge, W.Va. with the Rev. George Reed officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenfield Cemetery in Wardensville.
Pallbearers include John Newcomb, Danny Luttrell, Kevin Anderson, Drew Bageant, T. W. Miller, and Lew Morrill.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ruby V. Pierce
Ruby Viola Ellis Pierce, 84, of 7602 Main St., Middletown, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Pierce was born June 11, 1916, in Upperville, the daughter of Robert Carroll and Edith Victoria Payne Ellis.
She married Joseph William Pierce on June 22, 1935, in Washington, D.C. Mr. Pierce died Oct. 21, 1971.
Surviving are four sons, Joseph W. Pierce, Harry Pierce, and Raymond Pierce, all of Keystone, Fla., and Phillip Pierce of Chantilly; seven daughters, Margaret Berry of Orange Park, Fla., Janet Weiss of Keystone, Virginia Ann Mejia and Edith Nandury, both of Reston, Elsie Pierce Riggs of Middletown, Lorraine Counihamn of Gaithersburg, Md., and Darlene Pine of Falls Church; a half sister, Louise Tubb; and a half brother, Robert Ellis ; 35 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A son, James Pierce, and a daughter, Juanita Pierce, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church with Pastor David J. Barton officiating. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Upperville.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Dawson, Josh Pine, Krishna Nandury, Rama Nandury, Phil Pierce, and Ritchie Mejia.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Stephens City, and one hour before the time of the service at Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church.

Frances D. Smith
Frances Dove Smith, 84, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Fredericksburg.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 4, 1915, in Winchester, the daughter of Ernest C. and Agnes Gill Dove. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Women’s Civic League. She was a past senior regent of the Women of the Moose Lodge 1367 of Winchester and an active volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary.
She married Carroll C. Smith on Nov. 22, 1935, in Winchester. Mr. Smith died Sept. 2, 1989.
Surviving are three daughters, Jeannette D. Lloyd of Winchester, and Patricia S. Jones and Carol S. Raines, both of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
A Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.

Nicholas A. Ungaro
Nicholas A. Ungaro of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, formerly of Winchester, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Ungaro was director of product planning for KraftMaid Cabinetry in Middlefield, Ohio. He had worked for Merillat Industries in Adrian, Mich., and American Woodmark in Winchester.
He graduated in 1976 from Washington University with degrees in anthropology and architecture.
His wife is Constance Story Ungaro, who survives.

Alice A. Wood
Alice Anderson Wood, 77, formerly of Winchester, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in Monmouth Medical Center, Eatontown, N.J.
Mrs. Wood was born April 19, 1923, in Winchester, the daughter of George William and Jessie McElwee Anderson.
She married Floyd E. Wood on March 5, 1946, in Winchester.
Surviving are three sisters, Marilyn Rappelyea of Long Branch, N.J., and Lois Mckee and Jessie Brumback, both of Winchester; and four brothers, Clarence Anderson of Laurel, Md., and Andrew Anderson, Charles Anderson, and Ralph Anderson, all of Winchester.

John Ward Cornwell, 69, of White Post, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in a local nursing home.

Robert C. Cheshire
Robert Charles Cheshire, 56, of 81 Bonanza Drive, Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mr. Cheshire was born Oct. 16, 1944, in Romney, W.Va., the son of Ted and Cora Shanholtz Cheshire. He worked at Crown Cork & Seal Co. in Winchester for 33 years.
He was married to Evelyn J. Moreland.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Pamela Garcia of Stephens City; a son, Charles “Bucky” Cheshire of Romney; three sisters, Vivian Shockey, Mildred Sirk, and Charlotte Pyles, all of Romney; three brothers, Harry Cheshire of Cross Junction, Allen Cheshire of Kirby, W.Va., and Garland Cheshire of Bunker Hill; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va., with Pastor Kenneth Reed officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Heavener, Dale Hoppe, Jerry Fraley, Junior Phillips, Danny Pyles, and Louis Nickelson.

Edna V. Poland
Edna V. Presgraves Poland, 96, of Winchester, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Poland was born Jan. 23, 1904, in Berryville, the daughter of James G. and Virginia Hibbard Huff. She was a waitress for 20 years at McCrory’s variety store.
She was a member of Boyce Baptist Church and a 1942 graduate of Boyce High School.
She married Homer W. Presgraves on July 12, 1945. Mr. Presgraves died Aug. 29, 1974.
Surviving are a son, James Chapman Presgraves of Winchester; a daughter, Catherine Beightol of Winchester; a sister, Lottie Lee Bayliss of Winchester; a brother, Charles T. Huff of Winchester; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clinton Lawyer officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Huff, Connie Poston, Junior Foster, Bobby Jenkins, Bill Watkins III, and Garland Presgraves.

Laura J. Bolyard
Laura June Bolyard, 54, of Petersburg, W.Va., formerly of Romney, W.Va., died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Bolyard was born Feb. 14, 1946, in Newberg, W.Va., the daughter of Clyde and Sadie Virginia Lambert Adams. She was a homemaker.
She was married to Donald A. Bolyard, who survives.
A memorial service will be at a later date.

John E. Coverstone
John Edward Coverstone, 75, of Walkerton, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Retreat Hospital, Richmond.
Mr. Coverstone was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Middletown, the son of James Monroe and Ola Robinson Coverstone. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving is a sister, Elizabeth C. Ramsey of Walkerton.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, with Elder Dwayne Fletcher officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg.

The time of the funeral for Gilbert Cleveland Mills, whose obituary was published Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, has been changed.

Robert P. Funkhouser
Robert Presley Funkhouser, 68, of HC-79, Box 14, Kirby, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Funkhouser was born April 4, 1932, in Rock Oak, W.Va., the son of Clarence William and Eva Belle Wingfield Funkhouser. He was the stepson of Vivian Funkhouser.
He was a pipe fitter and welder, and a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local Union 1. He was a member of Bean Settlement Church of the Brethren in Baker, W.Va.
He was married to Marilyn Edith Thornton.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kammie Riggleman of Stephens City and Karla Rogers of Winchester; three stepdaughters, Deanna O’Donald of Sassamansville, Pa., Margaret Hofmann of Pottstown, Pa., and Regina Taylor of Boyertown, Pa.; a stepson, James Taylor of Marcus Hook, Pa.; a brother, Calvin Funkhouser of Winchester; two stepsisters, Louise Link of Capon Bridge, W.Va., and Helen Riggleman of Shanks, W.Va.; three grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two step great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Charlene Hamman, and a stepson, Robert Taylor, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bean Settlement Church of the Brethren, Baker, with Pastor Burl Charlton officiating. Burial will be in Rock Oak Cemetery, Baker.

Philip E. DeHaven
Philip E. “Phil” DeHaven, 45, of Cedar Lane, Stephens City, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. DeHaven was born Dec. 6, 1954, in Winchester, the son of Eugene and June V. DeHaven. He was a salesman for Grocers Wholesale for 12 years.
He was a member of Salem Church of the Brethren and attended St. Leo’s Catholic Church. He was a coach for Frederick County Little League and served on the Frederick County Little League Board.
He married Elizabeth Winter Beverly on Dec. 9, 1972, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife and his parents, of White Post, are a son, Steven C. DeHaven at home; three daughters, Kimberly L. DeHaven of Annapolis, Md., Kristen M. Dono of Pensacola, Fla., and Katherine E. DeHaven of Wilmington, N.C.; and a sister, Patricia Fletcher of Stephens City.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Shoda officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
