Lucele R. Reynolds
Lucele Rebecca Reynolds, 70, of 820 Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Reeder Memorial Home, Boonsboro, Md.

Mrs. Reynolds was born April 9, 1930, in Petersburg, W.Va., the daughter of William Edward and Florence Wise Stone. She was a cook for former Gov. William Preston Lane and had worked at Bill’s Convalescent Home in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Calvary Temple Apostolic.

She was married to Roosevelt T. Reynolds.

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Edwards of Hagerstown; a son, Steven A. Stone of Winchester; a stepson, Velton Reynolds of Baltimore; a sister, Florence Loretta Lewis of Frederick, Md.; two brothers, James Edward Stone and Joseph W. Stone, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Thursday at Calvary Temple Apostolic, Hagerstown, with District Elder Fred McCoy and Bishop Tom Parson officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, Md.

Charles R. White IV
Charles Ridgely White IV, 89, of Winchester, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. White was born Nov. 14, 1911, in Catonsville, Md., the son of Charles Ridgely and Lucy Marshall Willis White III.

He was a partner in J.V. Arthur Insurance Co. and active in Green Chemical Co. He was on the board of directors of F&M Bank and was vice-chairman of F&M National Corp.

He had attended Tome School in Port Deposit, Md., and the University of Berlin, Germany. He served in Naval Intelligence during World War II, with the rank of lieutenant commander.

He was a charter member and first president of the Winchester Junior Chamber of Commerce and president of Winchester Rotary Club. He was active in many civic organizations, including the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.

He married Eleanor Gillespie Scully on Aug. 20, 1941, in Winchester.

Surviving with his wife are five sons, C. Ridgely White V, Stephen D. White, John S. White, M. Willis White, and Alexander N. “Sandy” White, all of Winchester; a daughter, Lucy M.W. Barksdale of Brentwood, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Willow Grove Farm, Merriman’s Lane, Winchester.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Northern Virginia Chapter, 1021 Lee Highway, Suite 210, Fairfax 22030; or to Millwood Station Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, 600 Millwood Ave., Winchester 22601.

Ralph E. Day
Ralph Edward Day, 61, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Day was born June 3, 1939, in Warren County, the son of Harry Lee and Mary Elliott Day. He was a heavy equipment operator for Rappawan Construction Corp.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Riverton United Methodist Church.

He married Margaret L. Henry on Dec. 20, 1969.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Michael Day of Front Royal and Eddie Day of Maryland; two daughters, Sally Smith and Pam Sisk, both of Front Royal; four brothers, Bernard Day of Glen Burnie, Md., Roy Day of Cumberland, Md., and Clifton “Bud” Day and John Day, both of Front Royal; two sisters, Peggy Broome of Annapolis, Md., and Barbara Santmyers of Front Royal; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Randy Orndorff and the Rev. Larry Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick.

Pallbearers will be David Santmyers, Donnie Santmyers, Tommy Day, Steve Day, Johnny Day, Kenny Day, Darryl Day, and Dwayne Day.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and after the service at the church.

Michael L. Cooper
Michael Lynn “Mike” Cooper, 47, of Capon Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at his home due to a house fire.

Arrangements with Loy-Giffin Funeral Home, Wardensville, W.Va., are incomplete.

Jerry Varner
Jerry Varner, 57, of Winchester, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Varner was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Brandywine, W.Va., the son of George Luman and Marguerite Hoover Varner. He was a carpenter with A&W Contractors in Lorton.

Surviving are two daughters, Doranda Brown of Statesville, N.C., and Melissa Simmons of North Carolina; a son, Jerry R. Varner of Winchester; two sisters, Rose Loveless of Front Royal and Elizabeth Parlett of Luray; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, with the Rev. Dottie Holden officiating. Burial will be in Bennett’s Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Brigham, Lewis Vaughan, Justin Simmons, Roy Bolin, Jay Benetatos, Mike Malone, James Bergdorf, and Jason Parlett.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ralph E. Day
Ralph Edward Day, 61, of Front Royal, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at his home.

Stanley H. Trapp
Stanley Herman Trapp, 79, of 111 O’Briens Circle, Winchester, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Memorials may be made to the Shelter for Abused Women, P.O. Box 14, Winchester, 22604.

C. Ridgely White IV
C. Ridgely White IV, 89, of 750 Merrimans Lane, Winchester, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Memorials may be made to Millwood Station Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, 600 Millwood Ave., Winchester 22601; or the Winchester-Frederick County American Heart Association, P.O. Box 525, Winchester, 22604.

James W. Waldon
James William “Buster Stephenson” Waldon, 69, of 702 McLamb Drive, Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Winchester, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville.

Mr. Waldon was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Winchester, the son of James Albert and Susan Reed Waldon. He retired from the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army after more than 30 years and served two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Surviving with his mother, of Clearbrook, and his father, of Washington, D.C., are his wife, Barbara Ann Waldon; a daughter June W. Vann of Morehead City, N.C.; two sons, Dervin James Waldon of New Carrollton, Md., and Britt Albert Waldon of Silver Spring, Md.; his stepmother, Elizabeth Waldon of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Geraldine Brown of North Carolina; a brother, William Carter of California; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be at noon Friday at First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Cureton Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wiseman Mortuary, Fayetteville.

Azzie R. Burton
Azzie R. Burton, 98, of Paw Paw, W.Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Burton was born Feb. 7, 1902, in Gore, the daughter of Henson and Leona Lonas Anderson. She was a member of Woodrow Union Church.

She was married to Dave Burton.

Surviving are a daughter, Wanda Michael of Winchester; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Two sons are deceased.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va., with the Rev. Herman Goede officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Reva N. Kerns
Reva N. Kerns, 89, of 252 Chapel Hill Road, Cross Junction, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Kerns was born April 1, 1911, in Frederick County, the daughter of Robert N. and Mary Leister Luttrell. She was a member of Hayfield Assembly of God Church and was an avid gardener.

She married Irving B. Kerns on Nov. 11, 1926. Mr. Kerns died June 25, 1974.

Surviving are three sons, Ralph “Bud” Kerns of Whitacre, and Wayne Kerns and R. Dale Kerns, both of Cross Junction; five daughters, Dorothy Tinsmon of Bedington, W.Va., Nona V. Smith of Winchester, and Mary V. Wine and Nelda Jean Gentry, both of Cross Junction, and Judy Harmison of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two half sisters, Grace Kite of Roanoke and Virginia Phillips of Indiana; 33 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hayfield Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Bobby Bushman officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery, Cross Junction.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va.

Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery, 271 Spring Valley Road, Winchester 22603, in care of Roger Crosen, treasurer.

Richard G. Denton
Richard G. Denton, 83, of Richmond, formerly of Winchester, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Denton was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Harrisburg, Pa. He was a manager of engineering for Rubbermaid Commercial Products in Winchester and retired in 1985.

He was a graduate of Case Institute of Technology and a Navy officer during World War II.

He and his wife, Shirley J. Denton, were married 54 years.

Surviving with his wife are five children, Kenneth J. Denton, Candis L. Denton, Crystal J. Denton, Carol D. Bernard, and Carl A. Denton; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woody Funeral Home, Richmond.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Reva N. Kerns
Reva N. Kerns, 89, of 252 Chapel Hill Road, Cross Junction, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mary Alston Ray, 87, of Ashland, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000.

Mrs. Ray was married to J. Enos Ray.

Surviving are a son, James E. Ray Jr. of Winchester; a daughter, Beth Ray of Partlow; and a sister, Lucy Smartt.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Ashland. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in Reid Funeral Home, Ashland.

Dorothy C. Riddle
Dorothy Collins Riddle, 86, of 169 Clarke Lane, Berryville, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at her home.

Mrs. Riddle was born Dec. 4, 1913, in Grafton, W.Va., the daughter of Leonard Allen and Grace Bollinger Collins. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was married to Ernest “Ernie” M. Riddle on June 17, 1934, in Grafton. Mr. Riddle died March 25, 1990.

Surviving are a daughter, Joy Benfield of Germantown, Md.; a son, Ernest M. Riddle Jr. of Huntingtown, Md.; a sister, Jean Kuperwicz of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Paul Collins of Grafton and Leonard Collins of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Samuel Martz officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Pallbearers will be Lance Benfield, Scott Flax, Bob Kestner, Louie Robinson, Dale Riddle, and Doc O’Connor.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
